 - 2Gb limitation We migrate from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. We exported pst files from 5.5 and imported them to 2003. We have one user that had 1.9gb on 5.5 and when we export it on pst was 6GB. The problem we have is to import that 6gb to 2003. We have the linitation of the 2GB. Is it a way to bypass this limitation of the 2GB?  - IFS vs. File Server I am researching a new Exchange 2003 setup and am confused on pros-cons of using Installable File System vs. a normal File Server Share. We have a small <10 user company with two offices. We have decided to just run everybody under Terminal Services and have installed a Win 2003 Enterprise Server setup as an application server. We have also installed a Small Business 2003 Server with Exhange, domain controller, active directory, and file server. We have already noticed a huge increase in speed using terminal services because my database intensive programs are as of yet not going over the network and just installed on the local application server hard drive. I am now wondering if I should install the other application's documents such as word, excel, etc. on the local application server's drive, the SBS 2003 file server, or the Exchange 2003 IFS. As I have older people working in our office, simplicity is a must. I like the thought of common access through Outlook and the searchability of the documents IFS provides.  - ExDeploy.log error I am starting the installation of Ex2K3. I am installing Ex2k3 in conjunction with my Ex 5.5 server. I have upgrade to Active Airectory a couple of weeks ago and everything is running smooth. I get to the point on the Exchange Deployment tools to run the DssScopeScan and in the log I get the Following error: - Error: Could not connect to the Exchange 5.5 server 'GALILEO'. Tools that require an Exchange 5.5 server will not run. I am signed in as domain administrator and the domain administrator has full rights on the Exchange 5.5 server.  - Setup gateway in front of Exchange 5.5? Currently we have a Cisco PIX doing the static public-to-private NAT to our Exchange 5.5 server, and it's all good. But for security reasons we are looking at putting a anti-virus gateway appliance/server between the two. I really do not want to change the IP address of my Exchange server, so I thought I'd just make a change on my Cisco PIX to change the static NAT rule to point to the gateway, and the gateway point to the Exchange server.  - Migrating from SBS 4.5 to Server 2003 Hi. I am about to install a new server at the office. We currently have SBS 4.5 (NT 4.0 and exchange 5.5). We only have one server and it's a PDC. The new server will run Windows server 2003 (standard ed) and Exchange server 2003. My problem is that the existing server does not accept the new server as a bdc. Therefore I cannot install Acive Directory, and therefore I cannot install exchange. I could disconnect the new server from the LAN, set it up as a domain controller, install AD and Exchange. But then, how do I get the mailboxes and all the mails from the old server to the new one, before I retire the old one? I can manually create new accounts if necessary, because we are not too many users. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Starting with the first suggested deployment tool I receive the following in the log file, but I have yet to find any documentation that explains the errors.  - Incoming Email Problems We have a domain that is hosted by an external company (www.companyname.com.au). When we setup our Domain Internally the main server was aptly named SERVER and the domain name internally companyname.local I thought everything was ok until i tried to send an email to another member of the staff. We use the Microsoft POP3 Connector which collects all our email from a Email Hosting Program (ie all emails to companyname.com.au come into the program and it sends them to who they need to go to.) Whenever i try to send an email to another internal staff it returns the error that the email account does not exist within the organisation this message was sent to. Obviously what is happening is the organisation must be set to companyname.com.au and the email account isnt in the exchange server which is correct. But I want to send that email to the Email Hosting Program. Is there any way i can check and or change what organisation the Exchange server is using without reinstalling????  - setup Exchange 2003 from Exchange 5.5 full backup I have an emergency. My Exchange 5.5 server in domain A has crashed. I want to setup a new Exchange 2003 server in domain B. Can I direclty restore the 5.5 full backup to the new 2003 install? I'd like to bypass rebuilding the 5.5 server since it will no longer be used anyway. Is this possible?  - HELP.. I reinstalled IIS, and now OWA etc. fail to work. Hi, I was upgrading from SBS 2000 to 2003. While upgrading SBS tools, one message popup ask me to reinstall IIS service to continue installing. I follow the message reinstalled IIS service and everything install fine. However, Exchange OWA and HTTP features stop to working, then I start to investigate and found the following article, which explained to proper way to do it. Can anyone help me figure out a way to make OWA back to work?  - Remove Exchange 5.5 server from Exchange 2003 I installed a Exchange 2003 server into the same site as my 5.5 server. After the migration was complete, my 5.5 server crashed and is now unrecoverable. Now I can't delete the original 5.5 server from the site. I was told to use a MS KB article that explains how to remove the server from the site but since my 5.5 server is now dead, I can't. There's got to be a way to remove a 5.5 server from a site. The machine is part of a Native 2003 domain. The domain controller and machine I am trying to install Exchange 2003 on are clean installs. I was trying to run forestprep and domainprep from the Exchange machine but every time I would get the error -You cannot install this product on a computer running Windows Professiona So then I ran forestprep and domain prep on the domain controller and both were successful.  - missing mailbox in system manager Hello, I have a new exch03 system that the move from 5.5 went pretty smoothly except for one thing-- I have at least one account that does not show up under mailboxes in first storage group, and it's not in the global address list either.  - Exchange 2003 Planning Questions I am currently researching and planning my company's Exchange 2003 upgrade. Win2K/Exch2K environment 1 Exch server / Approx 50 mailboxes Pretty basic, simple setup. But I'm the 1-man IT Department. In-place 5.5 > 2000 upgrade went pretty smooth though, so I know I can handle this with enough preparation. So far I have 4 general questions that I was hoping someone could help me out with. 1) Can the Front End server act as a SMTP Gateway as well? Receive internet email and then route to the Back End? Outbound too? 2) Hard Drive config - right now I have a 18GB RAID-1 drive for <100MB of log files. The new server is going to have 36GB hard drives (only size available). Do I REALLY need a seperate drive and RAID for the log files? If not, am I better keeping the logs on the System Drive or the Exchange Store Drive? 3) Can Exchange ActiveSync and OMA be secured with SSL? Any documentation on this? 4) I found MSKB#822945 which tells how to switch hardware but keep the machine name. Should I even bother trying to do this? If the mailboxes are moved to a new server doesn't the Outlook client get updated automatically anyways? Further complicating this is the fact that the current Exch2000 server is also a DC (to be a backup Global Catalog server at that site).  - 2nd Exchange server in domain problems. Hi There :o) In our organization, we have two domains set up in a forest. Domain 1 has an Exchange 2000 (not on a DC) server in it, as does domain 2 (on a DC). We have recently added a second Exchange 2000 server into the second domain (on a second DC), to eventually take the place of the first Exchange server which will be decommissioned. All three servers are in the same routing group. On the old server in domain 2, I changed the "Default public store" to point to the new Exchange server, and moved all the mailboxes to the new server via AD Users & Computers. The only problem was that, when I logged onto domain 2 as administrator, and tried to access the administrator mailbox, it refused to recognise it. Instead, it suggested the administrative account from domain 1.... Would this be synchronised the email address list on the new server in domain 2? After this, I reversed the process and moved everything back to the first computer in domain 2, and after a few min's it picked the right account. Then, about 15 min's later, it decided that it couldn't find it, and suggested the administrator account on domain 1 again! We also noticed that if we shut down the old Exchange box on domain 2, you couldn't create email accounts using the exchange AD Users & Computers on domain 1..... The event logs show the following: Exchange <server 1 on domain 1> Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeDSAccess Event Category: LDAP Event ID: 2110 Date: 30/01/2004 Time: 6:14:47 p.m. User: N/A Computer: <server1 domain1> Description: Process EMSMTA.EXE (PID=4280).  - ADC tools question Ex2003 on Win2K3 server, single domain forest, interim mode, current Ex 5.5 on NT servers During phase 2 of Exchange 2003 installation for co-existence with Ex 5.5 I seem to run into an error on the Connection agreement Wizard. The ADC tools verification comes up with the following Pass 1 of 2: Active Directory Connector Object Replication Check validation (objects processed: 169 Warning: The Exchange 5.5 directory still contains objects that are not replicated to Active Directory. If you have just run Connection Agreement Wizard, allow time for directory replication to complete, and then rerun the verification task in Step 4. Otherwise, run the Connection Agreement Wizard Pass 2 of 2: Active Directory Object Replication Scan validation (objects processed: 168 Active Directory Object Replication Scan completed. No unreplicated objects found Finished verifying the results of the ADC Tools It would appear that one object has not been replicated to AD, even after allowing enough time for replication. Is there a way of finding out which object that is? I mean is it logged somewhere? I couldn't find it in the ADCtools.log for the event Also, what would be the impact if I carry on with the setup ignoring this one object not replicated TIA for any information.  - Failed to start POP3 service I've just installed exchange 2K in my lab which is a W2K SP4 PC. On the same PC, configured Outlook 2000 as email client. Outlook runs OK and I can see 2 address in GAL that I created for testing purposes. However tried to compose and email to both addresses (including administrator one which I use to log in). Goes to Sent Items but nothing comes to Inbox. Checked various areas and found in Exchange System that POP3 (Default POP3 Virtual Server) has a "red" X across it. Tried to manually start the service as suggested by the system but then get the following error, "Failed to start the service pop3svc. The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service." Help - what does this mean and can I get it fixed? Thanks. I tried contacting earthlink and they didn't know what the issue was but they say the problem is at my end. They suggested I submit my issue to abuse@earthlink.net but that only responds with an autoreply. I believe my A record and MX record are set up properly.  - New Install Problems Hello, I have a new install of Exchange Server 2003 on Windows Server 2003 (Both are the Standard Edition). My first two problems are: 1) One user - Every time he checks his email, whatever is in his Inbox is downloaded again as if it were new email. If there are 200 items in his inbox, when email checks all 200 are downloaded and marked as Unread again, if the inbox is empty then nothing additional comes in as Unread. (I hope that makes sense) Any suggestions? 2) We have several users at another office who have a DSL connection to the internet. Via the internet they use our mail server to send/receive email too. (MX records etc are good, it all worked fine under Imail) They can successfully receive email but they can not send anything outside our domain (To the internet). I am thinking about breaking up the users across 5 boxes, but would like some input for all of you.

Well, 275 GB is a huge huge mailbox store. It is highly recommended that you
move to Exchange 2003 Enterprise and split that store into several
databases.
The advantage is if one store goes down, others will continue to operate.
Also it is easy to deal with 30 or 40GB database compared to 275GB.
