 - Update Exchange Server 2003 to SP1 I am attempting to upgrade my exchange 2003 server to SP1. I have installed the OWA hotfix that was required but now the SP1 updater stops with a fatal error. It seems from the eventlog.txt file that I have a dependency issue with the MS Search service. The MS Search service is installed and functioning as well as MS Exchange 2003. Any idea? I do not feel like reinstalling exchange but that may be the only option. I have included the eventlog.txt at the end of this post.  - CA reqd for first 2003 server in 5.5 upgrade? This is a 5.5 to 2003 upgrade. All 5.5 servers and accounts are running in the AD. I'm working through some issues with old accounts before I can get connection agreements to install. In the meantime can I get the first Exchange 2003 server up to serve as the replacement bridgehead? I've been under the assumption the CA's needed to be in place prior to the first 2003 installation since the installation wizard steps you through that process.  - exchange 5.5 and lotus notes We are having few problems with external emails being sent from lotus notes being rejected by our exchange 5.5 server. Whenever an external user from lotus notes sends an email to our network users where we use exchange 5.5, the emails are rejected and the external users from lotus notes gets a reply back saying that the destination users mailbox is full, but the users mailbox is not full.  - Pop 3 connector I work alot with Small Business Server and the Pop3 connector included. How can I do the same thing with Exchange server 2003. I have an outside email provider that i want my exchange server to go collect that mail. Yes eventually, I should use Exchange as the email server, but for right now we aren't doing that.  - Removing 5.5 server from site with Ex2003 I've migrated all my users over onto my new Ex2003 server and want to remove my Ex5.5 server from the site and organisation. The Ex5.5 server used to be the sole server in the site and there are several other Ex5.5 servers in Exchange sites that will remain. I've moved over the OAB, Schedule+ and the Routing Calculation schedule I've turned the Ex5.5 server off for a few days and nothing seems to be broken, so I'm feeling pretty confident, but I want to know if it's safe to finally remove it.  - exchange 2003 I am currently in the process of migrating users from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003. I have installed the first and second exchange 2003 box in one of our exchange 5.5 sites successfully, and have moved mailboxes from a 5.5 box in the same site to the 2k3. However, now when I install a new exchange 2003 server into the same site, the server object cannot be seen through exchange 5.5 admin where as the first two could, when connected to an exchange 5.5 box. The ADC for other objects seems to be replicating fine, but just not the servers. Has anyone come accross this issue before and know how to resolve the problem?  - Receiving POP3 Email in Exchange 2003 ??  - Public Folders missing after going from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003!!! HELP! Ok - this is what happened. I was following along in MS KB #316886, and I was on page 5 where it talks about the migration of Public Folders and Mailboxes. What I did was (I didn't read the directions carefully, I know) I went to move the Public Folders to the new 2003 Exchange server. I went to the 5.5 Admin program, and went to the Public Folder that I wanted to move, and I went to Properties, and the Replicas Tab. I misunderstood the directions. So basically, how it was set up was: BEFORE: Servers: Replicate Folders To: EXCH3 EXCHANG EXCH2K3 AFTER: Servers: Replicate Folders To: EXCH3 EXCH2K3 EXCHANG So, as you can see, I replaced the 5.5 Server with the new 2003 Exchange Server. I understand what I should have done was: Servers: Replicate Folders To: EXCH3 EXCH2K3 EXCHANG Until those two servers had a chance to replicate, and move the EXCHANG back over to the Servers area. Now, when I use my Outlook client to view the public folders, I get the error: "Unable to display folders. You do not have sufficient permissions to perform this operation on this object. See the folder contact of your system admin.." I had 6 Public Folders I did this too, and only 1 of them works. In fact, when I go the Public Folder Resources on the server (In the 5.5 Admin program) I see that the Total K: and Total # of Items are both 0. So, are they gone for good? Thanks!  - Second exchange server or backup...... Greetings, I have been trying to come up with a solution for a backup to our current exchange server setup. We have a exchange server 2003 on a windows 2003 standard server currently and are adding a second server to the domain. I want to be able to offer e-mail services from the second domain controller should the first one fail. We would like to be able to provide the ability to send e-mail and retrieve e-mail from the secondary exchange server should the primary server go down. I am reluctant to just install excg on the second server because I am not sure of how the second excg server would integrate with the primary.  - Exchange 2000 setup in AD 2003 urgent please help I have a Existing exchange 5.5 site in a Windows 2003 Active directory environment I started process to install exchange 2003. Setup ADC connection agreements, ran forest & domain prep for 2003 then found out I could not install 2003 had to do exchange 2000. With help from Microsoft was told I could leave adc connections inplace use /removeorg to remove the exchange 2003 org from AD run forest and domain prep for 2000 and then install exchange 2000 on new windows 2000 server I followed these proceedures carefully and started the exchange 2000 install. Was not prompted to join an existing 5.5 site like the install notes say should happen. When I open exchange system manager I see both exchange 2000 and exchange 5.5 under administrative groups but as I was not asked to join the existing site has something gone wrong I installed exchange by loading the CD and from the install screen selected Install rather than browsing to the setup folde was this wrong.  - SBS 2k3 msPOP3ConnectorIssues My POP3 connector was working fine for about a week, but now any external mail is not being delivered to mailbox's they are being recieved but they seem to be going to the BadMail folder with file extentions .BAD .BDR and .BDP. (does anyone know how to restore these my users are not very happy with me!) Internal mail is fine and sending external mail is fine!! I have tried adding custom routing rules! Tried Re-Running CEICW, even tried re- installing Exchange buy have had no luck!  - Exchange 2000 to 2003 Hi, I am planning to upgrade and consolidate our company's Exchange 2000 servers. I would just like to hear if you think our plan is feasible. I performed an inplace upgrade of 5.5 to 2K, and the results were mixed, so I want this one to go smoothly. At present, we have 3 Exchange servers- 2 at 1 site and 1 at another site. One of the servers is a front end server, and all three are running Exchange 2K. Since we only have 30 users, we would like to run everything from one Exchange server. We are planning to store pst's on a network drive at the site with one Exchange server, and then move the mailboxes to the other backend server. We will then shut down the front end server. We have an additional server to act as a Swing server. I will install Exchange 03 on that server, and then move the mailboxes. Finally, we will stop the Exchange services on the last 2K Exchange server. Please let me know what you think about our plan. I would like to hear any ideas or suggestions. I am also toying with the idea of doing an in-place upgrade of the last Exchange 2K server, but I am a little concerned about how well that will work. Thanks for your help.  - Multiple Companies/Organizations I am fairly new to Exchange. I have done a thorough search on Technet and read through Exhange manuals, however I am still not clear on how to achieve this. I want to be able to have One exchange server handle email for a few companies. Similar to what an ISP does I guess. So if I have company.com.au, business.com.au can it send out emails so it appears they are coming from the two seperate companies?  - NT4-Server2003 Trusts I'm in the process of moving to a new Server2003 domain from our existing NT4 domain and in the testing phase. I have created the New domain set up the approriate trusts and for the most part I can get a user in the new domain to to access all the resources in the old domain. That is except for one member server in the old domain which is being partiularly difficult. All the policies etc seem OK on this server, the user has 'Access this computer from network' User rights both implicitly through inclusion in a group and explicity by user name. No matter what I do when trying to access any shares on this server the user gets the error message 'Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.' I even tried the same thing using a domain administrator account and got the same error. Both the server and the workstation are NT4.  - Dcdiag on windows 2000 server in Windows 2003 domain Migration from Exch 5.5 to 2000 in a Windows 2003 AD Domain. Have installed the Win 2000 server, have ADC successfully setup & running, did netdiag & DCDIAG and they seem to pass all test except 1 The netdiag run from the Windows 2000 server returned a message for the Kerebos sayin [Fatal] Kerebos does not have a ticket for (servername). All seems OK and one knowledgebase article says this could be a bug. I tried removing and adding computer to domain to fix and tried starting KDC which I have since found out cannot be run from this server as it is a member server.  - Upgraded OWA NT4.0 server to Windows 2003 and now OWA isn't working. I used to have a NT4 Server runnign Exchange 5.5 and a IIS4 server running OWA and had a SSL certificate. I upgraded my domain to Windows 2003, and I installed a new Exchange 2003 server and moved my mail boxes to it. Then, I upgraded my old OWA server to Windows 2000 then Windows 2003. Then I installed Exchange 2003 on it, and made it a front end server, then rebooted it. Now, when I try to bring up my server/exchange I get a Page Can't Be Displayed over and over again. I don't see anything wrong in the Even Logs (Except for an error that says some filter can't be loaded "The HTTP Filter DLL C:\WINNT\system32\exchfilt.dll failed to load. The data is the error."  - Win 2000 / Exhange 2003 - smtp server I have been having a lot of trouble using this configuration, I can't get smtp to send, but after installing a cheap 'n cheerful alternative, I found that I had to disable the smtp service for this to work, does Exchange use it's own smtp service or require the Windows one to work? MSExchangeSRS (1544) SRS Storage: The version store for this instance (0) has reached its maximum size of 20Mb. It is likely that a long-running transaction is preventing cleanup of the version store and causing it to build up in size. Updates will be rejected until the long-running transaction has been completely committed or rolled back. Possible long-running transaction: SessionId: 0x084B0DA0 Session-context: 0x00000000 Session-context ThreadId: 0x00000670 I suspect the reason is that we have two sites and a lot of student mailboxes (50000+). The orginal ADC replication took a while, but did complete - I could see it copying the entire directory of 260Mb, but looks like SRS is failing to do the same.  - Exchange 2000 in Active Directory 2003 environment We have AD 2003 running and NT4 with exchange 5.5 server which we have to replace. I am doing a Migration to Exchange 2000 on a new server as we cannot install Exchange 2003 due to other software products not being exchange 2003 ready. I had already run ADC & setup connection agreements & run forest & Domain prep for 2003 had to do /removeorg per microsoft recommendation and then run forestprep & domainprep for 2000. Left the ADC in place as Microsoft told me this was OK and should work. Mailboxes still talk OK and all looks OK.  - Missing Exchange Server need someones help..............asap...............anytime that I am clicking on a web address on anykind of viewing page to respond to...once I click, I get Microsoft Outlook trying to pop up to bring the message that I can type in for a particular web address.  - ADC Replication. Should it take this long???? We are trying to go from 5.5 to E2K3 and have done all of the forrest prep domain prep stuff and are working trying to get the ADC replicated. It has now been 2.5 days and it still says replicating. Is this normal? Our network is not that large. 3 domain controllers, 1 5.5 box and one new 2003 box that will be our Exchange if we ever get it replicated. We have only about 225 users and a 3.0 gig priv.edb.  - problems with dns and exchange I just set a new domain mydomain.com And a new exchange server. All was working find until this starting happening. When I start my outlook up it cant fine the server by dns name. and when I go and ping the mail server, it resolve to the public address. Now after a while and some reboots it starts resolving to the private address and of course that's when it works fine. This is driving me crazy.  - Issues to resolve before moving mailboxes and public folders to Exchange 2003 from 5.5 Here I am just finished installing Exchange 2003 using deployment tool. Please help me with the following issues before I move everything to 2003. 1. Mailbox management in ESM: In 2003 ESM, I cannot view/edit properties of any object, including a test mailbox I moved from teh Exchange 5.5. However, when I create an Outlook profile using this test mailbox, it works fine. The question is how to manage mailboxes without being able to access their properties? 2. IF I move all mailboxes to the 2003 server, how can I change the server name in user Outlook profile en mass instead of going to each desktop to do it? 3. After moving systems and public folders to Exchange 2003, can I leave them on the 5.5 server (because there will be mailboxes still on 5.5 server that need to access these folder)? How can I make sure that they can be replicated immediatelt so that mailboxes from both servers can see the most current items? 4. Can I move mailboxes from Exchange 2003 back to Exchange 5.5 ? I seem to be having a rather perplexing problem here.. starting this morning, some spammers seem to be using my exchange 2003 server for open relay.. fortunately the quantity is rather small, but still.. However, I have checked all the settings many times, everything seems to be set right to prevent open relay, and the server passes open relay testing from such places as abuse.net! I can't figure out how these dirtbags are relaying. Everything looks set right, and I pass all the relay tests. I have followed suggestions from Q324958 and it does not appear to be an authenticated relay going on either. I would REALLY appreciate ANY suggestions! Ooops, forgot to mention: Also, I am migrating some clients e-mails (as a result of a company merger) who were on a pop based system (6 using outlook and 1 Eudora) to our exchange box. They, of course, want to keep all their history. They are coming from a totally different company/domain. If I import their e-mails into the new mailboxes, would that cause a problem. I will eventually set them up on outlook, which can sync remotely thru RPC (VPN and/or HTTP), as mentioned below.
