Yes I have changed it to Port 390 on the Exchange 5.5 and
then Retarted the
Service plus then restarted the server and if I do a Ping
of the Exchange
5.5 Server by name it resolves to the proper IP Address
off the 2003 Server.

Check the LDAP port on the Exchange 5.5 server. What is it set to?
There are two places to look.

Configuration - Protocols - LDAP
Servername - Protocols - LDAP

By default Exchange 5.5 users port 389. It looks like the ADC tools is
trying to connect to it on port 390.

I changed the one on Configuration and Protocols to 390 like with a Exchange
5.5 to Exchange 2000 Migration. Don't that need to be chnaged now?

Re: Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 Connection errors by Michael

Michael

Basically, the port on the RCA needs to match the LDAP port in 5.5.

The only time you have to change it from 389 is when the 5.5 server is
running on a Windows 2000 domain controller.

If the ports match, try telnetting to the 5.5 directory on port 390 from the
server you are installing the ADC on.

If it connects you will only get a blinking cursur. If it does not connect,
it will tell you connection failed. syntax: telnet servername 389

Re: Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 Connection errors by Michael

Michael
Tue Aug 19 11:52:55 CDT 2003

If you can't make a connection to the server, its either the services are
not running or a networking problem.

Is the IMC on that 5.5 server running?
Can you telnet to any other ports? (like 110, 143, 119, etc.)
Can you telnet to the ports from any other machines?

If you cant telnet and make a connection on 389 or 390 whichever you decide
to use, the ADC will have the same problem.

I was following the steps I had used off the MS Documentation for going from
Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 and assumed it would be the same.

Sorry Roger

I thought you said that you could not telnet to port 25 either and assumed
that you couldn't telnet to any ports.

Can you telnet to any of those ports from the local machine?

Michael
Thanks for your help I was on-site again today and looked the NT 5.5
Server over some more and found on the LDAP Protocol it was not enabled. I
enabled it and away we went. This must have been left from a prior
administrator but thanks for all you help.
