    - Outlook Web Access on Exchange 2003 Hello Everyone, A long time ago I once setup Outlook Web Access and made the URL http://mail.company.com and it redirected to https://mail.company.com and even then it came up with a pretty blue page which users could login to.     - can't assign Delegates only one of my users is having this problem but I've tried it from multiple systems (as that user) with the same result so I know it's not tied to his system. When he tries to assign a Delegate he gets back: "The Delegates settings were not saved correctly. Unable to activate free/busy information. You do not have sufficient permission to perfomr this operation on this object. See the folder contact or your system administrator." I found a couple of articles that led me to believe that it's a right's issue so I added the user to his own object in AD and gave him full rights to no avail. Any thoughts?     - Anyone Applied DST KB926666 Yet? We are runnning W2K3 SP2 and I am reading the articles regarding the DST patch. Article KB912918 (mobile devices or shared mailboxes) has caught my attention. It appears that the new version of Store.exe that will be upgraded in the DST patch will change the way that permissions work. No longer is it enough to have full mailbox priviledges but you must also set a Send As permission too on accounts that open additional mailboxes. I am worried that this will blow up our BlackBerry Enterprise Server and our numerous people that open additional mailboxes. Has anyone updated their E2K3 servers with the new DST patch?     - PFmigrate from 5.5 to Exchange 2003 I am currently in AD mixed mode and Exchange 5.5/2003 mixed mode. I have four Exchange servers located at four geographic locations. I have public folders and a few custom forms on my main 5.5 server in siteA. I ran PFMigrate with destination to my Exchange2003 server in SiteA. On my Exchange2003 server in siteA I enabled replication of public folders to my other Exchange sites. Is there anything else I need to do? The forms appear to replicate, but mailboxes on Exchange2003 can not open the forms using Outlook 2002 SP3 or Outlook 2003.     - forestprep I ran forestprep and a memebr server (standard 03/exchg 03) after adding .net, .asp IIs and etc. and I am not getting the Organization Name screen. The screen that specifies a name for your exchange organization. Could this be because I have the trial version installed? Is there anywhere to check if there is an organization name already chose?     - Mail sent to users not in active directory (recipient filtering and tar pitting) Background: We have windows server 2003 SP1 running exchange server 2003 SP2, and we have Sunbelt Ninja configured to use the RBL (zen.spamhaus.org) and SPF (don't allow result hard fail, allow results pass, neutral, no rule, soft fail, unknown rule, and unknown mechanism). We receive a lot of e-mails directed to usernames that don't exist on our exchange server. We would like to block those at the SMTP connection step, rather than accept the SMTP connection and then issue NDR's to the supposed (usually faked if the e-mail was spam) return address. Questions: Is it currently accepted practice to enable recipient filtering and tar pitting as described in the articles below? If someone sends an e-mail to 10 usernames at our domain, and 9 of them exist in active directory but 1 of them doesn't exist in active directory, then will the 9 e-mails be delivered but the 1 e-mail will be blocked at the SMTP step such that the sender's SMTP server will/should notify the sender that the 1 e-mail could not be delivered? Besides SMTP connections that are trying to deliver e-mails that are directed to usernames that don't exist in active directory, what other types of SMTP connections will be delayed by enabling tar pitting (particularly SMTP connections that are not trying to send spam)? The MS article KB842851 says that if you enable the tar pit feature, you should carefully monitor the performance of your SMTP server, and you should analyze the traffic patterns on the server to make sure that tar pitting is not disrupting or delaying ordinary traffic. How does one do those things? Anything else we might need to know before implementing these solutions?     - corruption on a single user After migrating my users to exchange 2003 I have one user who is experiencing some "wierdness". When he first launches Outlook he gets a message "Unable too add to the server junk e-mail lists, you are over the size allowed on the server. The Junk E-Mail filter will be disabled until your Junk E-Mail Lists have been reduced to the size allowed on the server." even though he has nothing in his Safe or Block lists. Also, when he tries to assign people Delegate rights to his account the options are greyed out. Is there a way to clean up an individual users account status?     - SMTP Service(s) listed in Queue After having my Exchange server go live 2 days ago I see in the Queues section of System manager about 40 lines that read "SMTP Service - .....com (SMTP Connector)" where .... are various names like jamail.nl and kaiote.com. I'm thinking that because my server wasn't properly replying with a 550 unknown user for the first day that these are bounce messages that my server is trying to send back to the spammers that were sending to unknown users on my network and will eventually go away?     - Exchange 2207 CCR on std (non-MNS) cluster Hi all, My client is a relatively small business - instead of racks full of blades, we're talking about a handful of servers in a single site. So you guy who are used to implementing a 16-node Exchange cluster with a SAN the size of a boxcar need to scale down your thinking to follow this scenario. My client uses a SCC-type cluster under Exchange 2003, and hosts some other low-impact clustered virtual servers such as file shares for business records (Word and Excel docs) on the same cluster. Given the amount of mailbox traffic Exchange is loafing, so it's no problem to put a few other things on the same cluster. Normally a small business like this might not use a cluster, but my client likes the extra reliability and automatic failover. Now we're looking at buying a new server and upgrading to Exchange 2007 within the next year. With Exchange 2007, Microsoft seems to recommend CCR over SCC as a better high availability choice because of the two complete copies of the database, and because you can save money by skipping the shared storage (SCSI in my case). However, my client likes the redunancy of a cluster for his business data as well as for Exchange, so he wants a new cluster with shared storage. The Microsoft Cluster folks recommend that you stay away from a MNS cluster if you can because there's less chance of "losing the quorum". The Exchange folks don't necessarily disagree but have offered the MNS option to reduce costs and allow for geo clusters. With this background, I wondered if I can create a standard (not MNS) Windows cluster server, put the business data shares on shared storage, and then install Exchange in a CCR configuration instead of a SCC configuration. It would put more disks on each node and less shared storage, but for better reliability that's a small price to pay. Besides, the per-node SAS drives are cheaper than the shared Ultra Scsi drives. The Exchange documentation assumes that the SCC configuration will be used with a standard cluster, and the CCR configuration will be used with a MNS cluster. However I couldn't find any statement either way about whether an CCR configuration will work on a standard cluster, and I certainly couldn't find a statement that it's not a supported configuration. So I tried it. It turns out that when you try to install Exchange in CCR mode, setup complains because it doesn't see the Majority Node Set resource. However, it's easy to add a File Share Majority Node Set resource to your existing quorum group; since the cluster is not a MNS cluster Windows ignores the resource, but it has no problem if you create it. With a dummy MNS resource in the cluster to bypass the overly simplistic Exchange setup prerequisites check, the actual install worked fine and CCR started working flawlessly. Failover and failback work, both from within the Exchange Management console and from the Cluster Administrator. Nothing funny in the event logs. Also, the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer said everything was A-OK. So, if you find yourself with similar requirements, I'm here to tell you that all you need to do to get Exchange to install in CCR mode is to create a dummy MNS resource. You can probably delete it afterwords but I intend to leave it so I can install future service packs. Also, if anybody from the Exchange product team is reading, please fix your prerequisite checker to allow installation of a CCR mailbox store on any working cluster (you don't need any shared storage, so what do you care what kind of cluster it is)? Finally, if anybody sees any strong reason to stay away from this scenario please let me know. I could alway set up Exchange in SCC mode instead but I haven't seen anything that says what I'm trying to do is unsupported so why not get the benefits of CCR?     - 5.5 to 2003 in new forerst migration question. I'm planning an upgrade from Exchange 5.5 in an NT4 domain to Exchange 2k3 in a new 2k3 forest. What happens to incoming SMTP email during the migration? Will the ADC take care of routing mail to the appropriate server and user mailbox if both servers currently hold mailboxes? This Exchange 2007 was installed on a new server, currently, both are online. I have a question here about the Public Folder Database, after installing Exchange Server 2007, the Public Folder Database was there (in Second Storage Group), I didn't create it and I do need to copy public folders from the old Exchange server. The problem is that the log of Second Storage Group is on Drive C (default path), I'm allowed to move the path of Public Folder Database, but not allowed to move the log of Second Storage Group. Besides, I could not remove the Public Folder Database. If I set up any other database, the error for deleteing the Public Folder Database is that other database is using the Public Folder Database. If I removed all other databases, the error is that the Public Folder Database is in Synchorization or something else.     - DNS Resolution I've just installed Exchange 2003 on a windows 2003 server which I've joined to an existing exchange 2000 environment running on a 2000 small business server machine that happens to be the DC. I'm having a hard time resolving the FQDN of the new server from the Exchange 2000 server ESM, but resolving from the 2003 exchange server ESM works fine for both SMTPVC's.     - Configuring Exchange 2003 to deliver to a specific IP Hi. I've just had forced upon me an upgrade from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003. I have a situation whereby I need to configure the exchange 2003 server to deliver all mail for a specific domain to a given internal IP address, rather than letting it send out to the internet - we have a corporate WAN across which I can transport internal mail to another server without using the public address for the SMTP space. In exchange 5.5, this was as easy as going into "Connections", "Internet Mail Service", "Connections" and then selecting "Specify by email domain", then adding the domain name and other server address.     - OWA - "Microsoft Exchange issued an unexpected response (404)" I have just installed a clean install of Exchange 2007 on a new server and moved a mailbox over from my Exchange 2000 server. I can access my mailbox fine using Outlook and all function seem to be working very well. When I access my account via OWA I can see my inbox and read emails, but every time I try to do something I get the error in the subject. This includes deleting an email, sending a new one, opening the calendar, etc. Initially I had the problem that when i first logged on and it brought up the select language screen when I hit ok it directed me to owa \lang.owo and said that the file does not exist which it does not aywhere on the server. To fix this I found a way to set the language for all clients with a shell command. This allows me to get into my mail but with the problem described above. Anything I have read says 404 is file not found error so I suspect there is still something not right with my configuration either in IIS or Exchange. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.     - Switching from Mixed to Native Mode I'm preparing to switch our ex 2003 org from mixed to native mode. I first have to decommission our ex 5.5 server. I've moved all of the mailboxes. When looking at the 5.5 server in Exchange Administrator or System Manager, "System Attendant" is still appearing under mailboxes.     - Moving Exchange 2003 to a new server I posted a similar question a few weeks ago but wanted to start this one because we're almost ready to begin our new Exchange 2003 install. We have a current Exchange Server 2003 box and want to move all of the mail stores/mailboxes over to a new 2003 server. I just wanted to clarify the process. Here is what I'm thinking: -Bring up the new server, running Win2003 -Install Exchange Server 2003 and join the existing organization Now at this point I'm guessing we should be able to go to System Manager on either box and see the other server? Here is where I'm not sure which steps to do first: -Do we move mailboxes right off the bat? -Or do we follow this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/822931 The article states to do several things prior to moving mailboxes, but in the earlier posting I was told to move mailboxes, then follow this article. Is it recommended to move mailboxes during off-hours? Or can it happen during business hours? I'm assuming users will be locked out of their mailbox while it's being moved. What is the recommendation for the number of mailboxes being moved at once -- (i.e., should be move a certain amount at a time)? We actually have multiple storage groups -- do we create them on the new server and then move mailboxes into them? And finally (I think) -- when the mailboxes are moved how will the mail flow to them? Meaning, at what point do we need to change our firewall/mx records to point to the new server?     - Is Edge Transport role necessary??? Hi there, I have a question on setting up the Exchange Server 2007. In our old Exchange Server 2003 system, we only have one Exchange server. Now I added an Exchange Server 2007 in (I'm planning to remove the Exchange Server 2003 later). Users on the new Exchange Server 2007 could receive email without problem and could send emails within our organization, but they could not send emails to Internet. Roles of the Exchange Server 2007 are Hub Transport, Client Access, Mailbox, and Unified Messaging. The planning should be "simple Exchange organization with multiple servers".     - Relay or MX record Hello! I'm in a situation where I have to relay my exchange server emails to other mail server or have double MX recored. Double MX recored because I don't want be skipped as an no trusted mail server. What do you thinks, what shall I pick?     - Public Folder Database Hi there, I have a little problem after installing Exchange Server 2007 on our organization. The old setting is an Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise on Win2K3 Enterprise. This Exchange 2007 was installed on a new server, currently, both are online. I have a question here about the Public Folder Database, after installing Exchange Server 2007, the Public Folder Database was there (in Second Storage Group), I didn't create it and I do need to copy public folders from the old Exchange server. The problem is that the log of Second Storage Group is on Drive C (default path), I'm allowed to move the path of Public Folder Database, but not allowed to move the log of Second Storage Group. Besides, I could not remove the Public Folder Database. If I set up any other database, the error for deleteing the Public Folder Database is that other database is using the Public Folder Database. If I removed all other databases, the error is that the Public Folder Database is in Synchorization or something else.     - Could not find any Domain Controller I have a new exchange 2007 setup, with: 2x Domain controllers, with DNS 1x Exchange server with Client Access and Hub Transport Role 1x Exchange server with mailbox role All was fine when origionally installed, but now alot of the time when you open the management console you get a box coming up with the error: "Could not find any Domain Controller in domain domain.local" All servers are set to use the 2 local DNS servers, then 2 internet ones.     - Oversize attachment rejection Our 03 Exchange std is setup w/ a limit on the attachment size sending and receiving. It's set high enough that usually is not an issue, however, when the an attachment exceed the limit, the sender receives an email from our Exchange box that the email was rejected, but doesn't indicate the reason.     - Upgrading Exchange 2003 to 2007 on same server Hi, I have an Exchange 2003 Server with just one mailbox running on it and would like to install 2007 on the same server. I'd like to somehow backup my existing mailbox completely re-install the Windows OS and then AD and Exchange 2007 and then restore the mailbox.     - problem at shutdown I know this is actually a server 2003 question but I think it might be tied to Exchange. I just built three new server 2003 std boxes for my companies new Exchange (2003 enterprise) system. If I try to shut them down in the first day (or so) they shut down fine but much longer than that and they hang at "Windows is shutting down". When I then power them off and restart the event logs don't show anything unusual nor does the system ask for an explanation of the unexpected shutdown. Anybody else seen this?     - Backup solutions Now that I've got my users migrated over to Exchange I better get going on data security / backup. Are there forums out there dedicated to this subject or is this an appropriate place to discuss it? If appropriate, here are my inital questions: 1) Do most of you have the ability to restore individual users or just the entire message store. 2) Can you simply restore an EDB file to a server in a test environment, copy the desired messages to a .pst then transfer them back to the online store? 3) What do most backup vendor's "exchange agent" do for you beyond what their generic backup product does assuming you're using some sort of open file agent (ala Open File Manager).     - SMTP monitoring Is there any way to watch the inbound and outbound flow of smtp mail in 2003 Enterprise? The product that I just migrated away from allowed for monitoring via their GWIA but I can't find the comparable in Exchange and my ISP (who's moonlighting as my Exchange expert) says there's not a way to do it.     - Delivering email from multiple domains We are hosting multiple domains within exchange 2003 and collect mail successfully from various ISPâ??s. Each local user has an individual email account on one domain. The problem we have is any email addresses that have the same name but separate domain all the mail gets delivered to one account instead of to whom it was addressed to. Example; User name = info info@domainA.com User name = infoB info@domainB.com User name = infoC info@domainC.com All mail would only get delivered to domainA account even though it was addressed to any of the other domains.     - IMF blocking some internal emails? Hi everyone, I have Exchange 2003 SP2 installed on a Windows 2003 server and everything running ok. IMF is installed and we are stopping 15-20,000 spam emails per week. Not a bad effort. The problem I have is that lately the IMF has started to block legitimate INTERNAL emails which is causing me grief. Is there a way I can stop the IMF from looking at any internal emails? I'd like them to just get through without any checking at all. At this point in time I do not use the CWF however think I might have to implement it this week. Would that be of any help?? We recently changed the IP address of the server and I am wondering if I missed a setting or something and it's now treating email from the new IP address as foreign?     - Migration question Hello! If an Exchange 2003-server stores the database-files on a SAN-volume, and the server is about to be replaced with a server with the same name. Would it work if the mailbox-store and the public folder-store is dismounted from the old server, and mounted again from the new server with the same name if the same SAN-disk is mounted on the new server? Does/has anyone had any success in removing the extra AD info that Exchange
2007 setup submits?

I was thinking along the lines of domain unprep a la LCS 2005.
