I don't think copying the database will give you the results you're looking
for. The move-mailbox method is what should aim for.
For disaster recovery scenarious, you can copy the databases if:
1. The source database is Exhcange 2000 SP3 or later (Exchange 2003)
2. The destination database is Exchange 2000 SP3 or later (Exchange 2003)
Here's what will break:
1. Custom SMTP addresses not generated by the RUS.
a. You'll have to recreate these (script)
2. All email inbound to users on that database while the files are moved.
a. When moving the database, you'll have to disconnect all AD accounts
from their mailboxes and then reconnect them to the new location (on the new
server).
