Exchange 03 standard/enterprise
currently i have a single exchange standard server up and runing. We are
going to be moving to a new server by setting it up as a second server adn
then mirgrating the mailboxes and then removing the orginal server from the
tree.
My question is, we want to go to enterprise edition of 03. can I setup
enterprise up on the new server on the same tree and them update it to sp2
(which is what we have on the server now) and then migrate the mailboxes?
Thanks

Gaining commercial exchange experience
I have a problem in that I have 6 solid years of I.T experience but

New Exchange 2007 installation with Exchange 2000 on the network
We have an Exchange 2000 server on our network and we wish to migrate over to
Exchange 2007. I have the new server setup, but I have not yet joined the
domain. I would like to make the new server have the same name as the old one
so that I am not changing all of our workstations. Is there a white paper out

Cannot connect to Outlook Anywhere
am trying to get Outlook Anywhere to connect so that we can use laptops at
the company for email inside and outside of the domain. I have already
purchased an SSL cert and have OWA working properly. We are running Exchange
2007 with Outlook 2007 clients, external domain radiant.us.com.
I tried setting up OA with Microsoft's guide, entering the external host
name as the same as used in OWA minus the "/owa" at the end
(mail.radiant.us.com) as well as entering the same thing as the proxy on
outlook. It seems to connect, asking for a password but never registering it
correctly. One thing I noticed is that when it asked for the password it
referenced the server.local domain in the Connecting to (exch.radiant.local).
I tried changing this in the Outlook setup to "https://mail.radiant.us.com"
but that did nto work either.
I think it might have something to do with 'autodiscover' but I don't know
how to set that up properly or if/what needs to be done with my SSL cert with
that.
What do i need to do to get this working properly? Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165217
Binding send connector to 2nd network card
Here's an interesting one.
The set up is as follows:
Exchange Server 2007 (standalone - so Mailbox, Client Access and Hub
Transport role)
with two NICs. Both NICs have their own gateway/firewall.
Now how do I get Exchange to use the second NIC for all outbound SMTP?
I can create a send connector but can't see how to bind it to a NIC or an IP
address.
I see it is associated with a Hub Transfer server (itself) but can find
nowhere to alter
the parameters for this Hub Transport server.
Any ideas?

Exchange 2007 in Single Forest Multiple domain Environment
Hi
We are planning to Migrate Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007.
We decided to deploy New 2 ADs for Exchange Sever 2007
in a different site under the same forest and domain. In addition
we planned to deploy two more aditional ADs for group companies
at the same site of new Exchange 2007.In other words,I designed to
deploy Exchange 2007 on Single Forest Multi Domain Environment.
I'll appreciate you, if you have any feedback on merits and demerits of this
sort of deployment, as well as any advice , recommendations.
Looking forward to hear from you.

Convert from pop3 to Exchange
I have 5 people setup using a pop3 account from an internet provider and we
push that mail from the internet provider to an Outlook Client and this is
saved as a pst file. I have just installed Exhcnage 2003 SP2 on the server.
This is all new to me so this might be a stupid question, but I need to know
how convert or migrate the pst files into Exchange and it what steps do I
need to do this. I believe I also need to contact our pop3 provider and have
them make some changes in an mx record to our outside ip address. Another
question is what ports on our firewall do I need to open so mail will flow
through to our exchange machine.

However, if I try with the domain name http://www.domain.com/exchange I can

Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 swing migration - DCOM errors
I am seeking some advice on the following DCOM errors that are occuring.
Configuration: SonicWall ES200 accepts all SMTP traffic. From there the
email is filtered and forwarded to Wilbur5, an Exchange 2000 server (which
has been running flawlessly for years). The Exchange 2000 server is fully
patched and up to date.
I have added an Exchange 2003 FE server which accepts POP and HTTP
traffic.
There is also an Exchange 2003 BE (Exchange02) server to which users
will be migrated. There is a test mailbox/user account setup for the 2003 BE
server. This account can send/receive email, access from the outside via OWA
works as well. The Exchange 2003 servers are also patched and up to date as
of this morning (03-07-08).
When logging into OWA, the FE server is properly directing requests and
all is well.
I am seeing the following DCOM errors on Exchange02 (the 2003 BE with
the single "test" mailbox).
This first error in the event log, followed by two others. Here is

Exchange 2007 + Remote Offices
I wish to deploy exchange 2007 in all our offices, as we are in the middle of
a massive rebuild.
My main fear is that if we lose connectivity, between the offices due to a
third party, then we're going to have issues. The VPN between all sites, is
fine, and has been running very well.
What I would like to know, is is it possible to deploy exchange 2007 in such
a way, that one machine is responsible for collecting the email from the
outside, and the will deliver it to the correct exchange box on which a users
mail box resides?
For example, if a user has their mail box on the Tokyo server, and the
domain email in being received by the London server, will exchange
automatically deliver it to the mail box in Tokyo, if that users mailbox,
happens to be there?
If that is the case, how to I configure OWA? Will each user have to access
thier local box, or can I have ONE mail box which can be used to access all
email accounts regardless of which exchange box it sits on? Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165177

Incoming Mail When Exchange Server Down
Hello,
We have a small company and we're thinking of transitioning to an Exchnge
based messageing system, and do away with all the hosted POP3 accounts.
I'm the one pushing this idea forward, due to a number of reasons. A
question was raised about incoming emails, when/if our Exchange goes down.
I did not have an answer to this question.
So I wanted ask the Gurus out there, what happens to all the incoming emails
when the Exchange goes down? Do all of them get bounced? Do they get stored
in the source Exchange server until ours is back up again? What are the
chances of loss of emails in that scenario?
Your input is appreciated. Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165164

Error:
This computer is running Windows Server 2003 and has not been assigned an

Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 when it is installed on a Windows Server
2008 computer that has both IPv4 and IPv6 enabled. See
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=102391 for more details.

1) One onboard NIC, disabled in BIOS. (Should not be the problem.)
2) One PCI NIC with a static IP address. works fine.
3) One onboard WLAN, without a driver. don't have x64 driver for this. And

slow access public folders
Hi,
We have extended our exchange 2000 domain with an exchange 2007 server. From
this domain we have replicated the public folders to this new server. Works
ok.
Now we have added another exchange 2007 server, created a second storage
group and a public folder database on it. From the other exchange 2007 we
have replicated the public folders to the second exchange server. Also works
ok. Folders are accessible.
However, when we shut down the first exchange 2007 server the public folders
are almost inaccessible and it takes minutes to open them and sometimes you
cannot open the public folders at all!
In a few days we have to move the first exchange server to another location
that will be temporarily disconnected from the network. This means we cannot
access the public folders.
Does anyone have a clue why we cannot access the public folders when the
first exchange 2007 server has been shut down?
At this stage we take remove the public folders from the first exchange 2007
server and only have them on the second one, but will this sort our problem?
Any help is welcome! Thanks!

Question about SMTP connector for internet mail on Exchange 2003
I have some questions about modifying an SMTP connector in Exchange 2003 sp2
Our production email environment has three email servers, two back end and
one front end in a single admin and single site/routing group. Our
connection to and from internet mail is using a McAfee antispam/antivirus
gateway "SCM" appliance.
Our current configuration has a connector set up for internet mail. It has
the "*" address space and has one of the servers designated as the
bridgehead server and the "smart host" setting pointing to the IP of the
McAfee device. The McAfee appliance is set to forward incoming mail for our
system to the bridgehead server.
This configuration has been set up and been stable for over three years.
Recently we've been running into an issue when sending large (3,000+
recipients) out through the McAfee appliance (we've just opened a ticket
with McAfee; they're working on it). One of the ideas we're looking into
is setting our system to bypass the McAfee gateway for outgoing email and
have the bridgehead server send directly out to the various internet
recipients. Incoming mail would still go through the appliance.
Our networking group can modify the firewall to allow outgoing SMTP and DNS
connections from the bridgehead server, but I just want to make sure I
understand the changes on the connector and the effects. I have some
questions about this:
1) Once the firewall is set, is all I need to do is set the connector to
use "DNS to route to each address space on this connector" instead of the
"forward all mail to. Smart Host", correct?
2) Changing the connector would only affect outgoing mail, correct? The
McAfee appliance is our incoming SPAM filter, we do NOT want to bypass this
for incoming mail.
3) The firewall would be modified to only allow connections initiated
from the inside. This is not a major security risk since connection
requests initiated from the outside would not be accepted, correct?
4) Once I change the connector setting, does it take effect immediately
or do I need to restart any services (or the server)?
Any information would be appreciated.

Exchange/Outlook question
We are using Exchange 2000 on SBS2000. We had an Outlook 2003 client/
user 's system go down so we logged them into another workstation that
has OutlookXP. We added the Exchange Mailbox mail account in Outlook
(using the Mail icon in Control Panel). When we opened Outlook it
showed the mailbox folders listed under the Mailbox-Username and also
a "Personal Folders" section underneath that. When we did a send/
receive, it started moving mail from the Mailbox-Username\Inbox, Sent
items, etc to the same folder in the Personal Folders section. This
took about 30 minutes. However the Contacts did not move -they remain
in the Mailbox section.
Questions:
1. Why did this happen, we would like to avoid this problem in the
future? After the Send/Receive finished, we went back into the
Exchange Mail Account options and set it to deliver mail to the
Mailbox-Username instead of the Personal Folders.
2. We plan to repair the user's oriiginal system. Now that the mail
came into the Personal Folders (OUtlook.PST), and the user replied to
the email from there, how can we synchronize back from the user's
Personal Folders to their mailbox on Exchange?
3. What can we expect when we open Outlook on their original system?
Where will the mail be since we created this mailbox on another system
and we have a PST file with their new mail? Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165130

I've been reading the SP1 documentation, looks like the CAS/Hub Transport
server first for upgrade, then from our clustered mailbox servers, make sure
the node being upgraded is in passive mode? Once the passive node is
upgraded, then do the same with other node.
Sounds about right in summary? Thanks for your input. Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165118
How-To display Company Name in SMTP From Field
I was wondering if there is anyway in Exchange Server 2003, to display the
company name in a userâ??s From field when they send an email outside the
Exchange Organization?
For example, say Jane Doe is an employee of ACME, Co. Is there a way to make
her SMTP From address field show,
Jane Doe (ACME, Co.)
when she sends an email?
Right now when my Exchange Server 2003 sends an email outside our
Organization, it is just displaying the users First and Last name. I have
already gone into Active Directory and updated the display name to include
our company for all of our users. However, only users within our Exchange
environment see the change (ie. Jane Doe (ACME, Co.)). When users within our
Exchange environment send an email to GMail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or whatever
email service, the From field is still just showing their first and last name
(ie. Jane Doe).
Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

HT Connectors
When you introduce the first Hub Transport server into an Exchange 2003
organization, do you need to also create a Send Connector to the internet or
establish a routing group connector back to the Exchange 2003 routing Group?
I was under the impression this was done for you when you provide the name of
the Exchange 2003 server during the initial install. During transition
times, I want Exchange 2007 servers to route email off of the existing
connectors created in the 2003 routing groups. I do not want to create
addtional outbound send connectors until I decommission the 2003 environment.
Can routing work this way? Where 2007 piggy backs off 2003.
Thanks

Exchange 2003/2007 co-existence and Internet mail flow.
We currently have a single Exchange 2003 Server in single AD
forest/domain/site. We'd like our Exchange 2007 server to co-exist with our
current Exchange 2003 server. So while we test and configure Exchange 2007,
most mailboxes will remain on Ex2003 while some beta testers mailboxes have
been migrated to Ex2007. Exchange 2003 users will need to continue to
send/receive emails normally and access their mailboxes remotely via OWA and
ActiveSync and the new Exchange 2007 beta users should be able to
send/receive while we also setup remote access to 2007 OWA (SSL), ActiveSync
(SSL) and Outlook Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) for them.
Our firewall filters and forwards incoming SMTP and HTTP (OWA) traffic to
our Exchange 2003 server. We'd also like Internet mail to flow directly to
the Exchange 2007 server so I understand we'll need to add a * Send Connector
and then allow Anonymous connections to the Receive connector.
- First of all, is this scenario possible?
- If so, after creating the new send connector and modifying the receive
connector to allow anonymous connections on Exchange 2007 do I just need to
update our firewall to forward SMTP and HTTPS (OWA SSL) traffic to the new
Exchange 2007 Server in addition to our current Exchange 2003 box? Or will
this cause mail flow loops? I'm trying to understand how incoming/outgoing
SMTP/OWA traffic is routed when a Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2003 Server
co-exists.
- Also, do I need to change any of the connector settings on the the
Exchange 2003 Server?
Here are some links I've referred to. Thanks in advance!

HT and Exchange 2003 Interoperability
I am running Exchange 2003 and transitioning my organization to Exchange
2007. I have already installed the CAS servers, applied SP1 and now trying
to install the Hub Transport Servers.
Questions:
1. Does the HT require SMTP to be installed?
2. I receive an error message when I apply SP1 stating that the installation
could not find a SMTP connector for *.*. or SMTP service. Do I need to
create a connector on 2007 or shouldn't the HT be able to route mail via the
existing Exchange 2003 routing group it is in and the SMTP Exchange 2003
connectors which are governing this routing. Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165104

Exchange 2007 How to disabled "e-mail security" & "junk e-mail" in
Hi,
Does anyone know how to disabled "e-mail security" & "junk e-mail" in OWA
2007/Exchange 2007?
We don't want the users to even see "e-mail security" & "junk e-mail" in the
options of their Mailboxes (in the OWA).
Thanks,

GroupWise 7 to Exchange 2003
Does Exchange 2003 GroupWise connector support GroupWise 7? I know in the
past it did not but was wondering if anything changed. I'm looking to upgrade

looking at a two step migration. Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165094
Edge Transport Server Role in DMZ
I am new to Exchange, so I am trying to learn Exchange 2007 as I go,
so any information is greatly appreciated. I am in the process of
putting my Edge Transport Server Role Server in my DMZ. My DMZ is one
subnet, but I have seen some information that suggests the Edge
Transport Server have two NICs and the appropriate send and receive
connectors be on the appropriate NIC. Would it be a problem if I put
both types of connectors on a single NIC? Thanks again for any
help. Tag: Exchange 2003 64bit.. Tag: 165093

Shared Mailboxes on Exchange 2007
Hi there,
We're in the process of moving our Exchange 2000 users over to our new
Exchange 2007 server (fully patched). Everything is going smoothly but I'm
not sure what the best approach is to move the shared mailboxes over. I
realize that Microsoft is 'de-emphasizing' shared mailboxes in Exchange 2007
but we still have approximately 50 of these mailboxes which we will need to
keep on the new server (at least temporarily).
The permissions on these existing mailboxes are messy.
Each of these mailboxes has a lot of different user accessing them (full
mailbox/send access) & I want clean it up on the new server.
I'd like to know the following:
1- Is it possible to a) create a security group, b) add the users to it, &
c) grant full mailbox/send access to the security group(s) using the
'Add-ADPermission -ExtendedRights Send-As' &
'Add-MailboxPermission -AccessRights FullAccess' commands from the power
shell?
2- How are other people managing shared mailboxes on Exchange 2007?
Any suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated.
TIA

Exchange Installation Errors with W2K legacy DC
I am installing Exchange 2007 in an Active Directory 2003 infrastructure
which meets all the prerequisites. Unforunately, I have a few 2000 domain

Exchange Migration Speed
Hello,
We are migrating exchange from one Exchange 2003 cluster in domain abc.com
to a Exchange 2003 server in xyz.com. Our plan is to export the larger than
2 GB mailboxes using Outlook due to the 2 GB PST limit using exmerge (using
exmerge for all of the rest). The old server is at our colo and we will be
using exmerge to create the PST's on a USB HD and then bring the HD to our
"new" facility and import the PST's there.
Is there any way to make exmerge faster?
Is there any util out there to do this in a more efficient way?
Would a NAS device be faster than USB?
Any help to make this process faster would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
this question might be asked already but i couldn't find it.
Is there a 64bit version of exchange 2003?
