    - Multi Users shared same external address Hi All, My company has 10 staffs and all of them using Outlook 2003 and connected to Exchange 2003 server. Currently we are using Outlook 2003 for our internal mail. We also have a common external mail ( host by ISP ) and used by our manager. I intended to allow all the staffs can send mail using external mail address so that the recipient will see the mail is from our external address instead of internal address.     - SBS2k3/Ex2k3 - adding new disk array i'm planning on upgrading the storage on my SBS server with a new RAID1 array, and i'd like to know how to best tackle getting all of the SBS and Exchange data (websites, message stores) to the new disk and configuring SBS/Exch to know where to look for it. i've looked around and i can't seem to find any good documentation on this. any tips on where to go? thanks!     - IMAP not working for clients migrated from another server I have a Windows 2003 server with all the patches running Exchange 2003 server with all the patches. I used the exchange migration wizard to tranfer clients from one server to another. The old server is gone so I can't do any testing on it. When I create a new user from scratch, I can use OWA, IMAP and every other exchange feature. Accounts that were migrated though can't access IMAP. I believe I've checked all their rights in AD and it appears they should be able to use IMAP however they can't. If I export their data to a PST from the workstation and create a new account they can access IMAP - using the same workstation that couldn't access it before - this is true both from within the company and remotely. This isn't feasable for all the clients. Is there something I should be checking? I checked under AD - Exchange Features - it says everything is enabled using defaults including IMAP4 (which is the same thing it shows for a new user as well as a migrated user) Exchange Advanced - Self has the same permissions for both a new user and a migrated user. I have this issue for two servers in two different domains. Both had all the latest patches for Exchange and Windows before I performed the migration. Thanks Tag: Exchange and AD Tag: 128770

    - Single E2k3 Server I have a single E2k3 Server which will be hosting multiple, separate companies. How can I give each company their own email address and prevent them from seeing the other companies hosted on the same Exchange 2003 server.     - e-mail alias We have several users with multiple e-mail alias's. When a person is receives a e-mail in outlook it shows that it was sent to the default SMTP address. What I need is for the "to field" to show the address it was sent too. We had this problem on our old 2000 exchange server and I seem to remember the fix was a registry setting.     - Not able to relay from home. I have several users that use pop3 and smtp from home some can send and receive others can not. they all are setup the same, they all have the box checked that my server requires auth everyone of them can receive email while only 3 of them are able to send email back out. we have tried just username and password and domain\username and password username@domain and password still no changes any help greatly appreciated.     - Upgrading Hardware Currently we have Windows Server 2000, Exchange 2000 Standard. We have 3x18gb (Raid). We have hit the max storage size for Exchange 2000 Standard to we have purchased Exchange 2000 Enterprise. We figure we should update the Hard drives as well. What is the best method for backing everything up and then restoring? I know once I get the system back online, I can just upgrade Exchange Std to Ent by insertign the CD and "reinstalling".     - migrate from native mode i m going to migrate exchange 2000 to 2003 on different hardware. I have a question that migration document says when u install 2003 on new hardware choose "Deploy first exchange 2003 Server" and then "Upgrade from Exchange 2000 Native Mode". However currently exchange 2000 running on mixed mode. Do we need to change to native mode first then migrate? or go ahead without doing it on old server? Environment Directory: 2000 AD mixed mode Exhange: Two 5.5 Exchange servers w/SP4 running on NT4 SP6a, one = exchange 2000 server w/SP3 running on 2000 server SP4 Situation: Join exchange 2000 into 5.5 environment, created ADC CA's, = able to join with no problems. Able to move users over to new server = with no problems. Unable to view public folders from new 2000 exchange = server Due to money and hardware issues, we are upgrading our existing exchange = 5.5 to 2000. We had to upgrade our domain from NT to 2000 and that went = fine. I did forest and domain prep and setup ADC to pull the = receipients into AD. Installed 2000 and it created its default CA. I = created a new CA for public folders from 5.5 to AD but it will not work. = Tried to setup replica's from 5.5 Exchange Admin to replicate over the = public folders to 2000. We have 285 public folders. I was able to set = up around 80% of the folders and then got an error saying "the object = cannot be found in the directory.     - RPC over HTTP on SELF SSL - solved! It seems like there are a ton of poeple online who are having trouble with RPC over HTTPS. I was one of them, but I got a solution now and I wanted to share it with everyone. I had followed all the RPC instructions on microsoft's web site. And still my Outlook client would hang when I was outside of my LAN. Why?? Well, it turns out that if you have a SSL certificate you created using SELFSSL, then you may have an issue! First thing you need to do is to make sure that you created the right kind of certificate. Namely, make sure that you set a large enough window for the expiration date and then make sure that \N option says something like "*.mydomain.com" so that you cover all subdomains for that certificate (as most of you probably want to do). Now try going to the RPC web page by pointing Internet Explorer to https://FQDN/rpc ... do you see a pop up screen giving you a warning about the certificate? If so, then click on "view certificate" and then click on "install certificate". Now you have installed that SSL certificate and you should not see this pop up screen agian. Try shutting down Internet Explorer, restarting it, and then going to that web page again. Now you should not see that pop up warning screen about the SSL certificate.     - Exchange backend/basic networking concet help Hi group~ I am looking for some help on some basic concepts and was hoping someone or a few of you would join in to help. I want to set up a dmz using a front and back end exchange server, web server and put a ftp server in the dmz as well. My questions at this point are more about the networking side of things like routing the subnets etc. I was thinking that I would use this setup (and this is the hardware I have available): 2 firewalls- router ip->firewall 1 outside (public) ip. Both public addresses on the same subnet. firewall 1 inside (private) ip 10.0.0.x 255.255.255.0 with a gateway of the router ip. exchange and ftp servers with 10.0.0.x addresses with a gateway of the firewall 1 private address firewall 1 inside ip and these servers on the same switch with firewall 2 outside interface on the same switch as well. firewall 2 outside ip 10.0.0.x (same subnet as firewall 1 inside much with a gateway of the firewall 1 inside address. firewall 2 inside address 10.0.1.x 255.255.255.0 and all other machines on that ip scheme. all machines inside have a gateway of the inside firewall 2 address. so first off, is this correct so far? secondly, dns... just set my dns address for the dmz machine to the addresses they have and they should do just fine right? thanks in advance!     - Outgoing mail via SMTP account at ISP Hi there I am in the process of setting up an exchange 2000 server. Internal mail is working as is POP3 download but outgoing smtp mail is giving me problems. I would like to make use of the smtp accounts that I have already gat at my ISP I hope to find a solution where user "a" send outbound mails via a@mydom.com and user "b" should send outbound mails via b@mydom.com. I have set up smtp connection to pass though a@mydom.com and for user "a", and it is working flawless. However when logged in as user "b" and trying to send outbound mail I get the following reply from my ISP: 553 <b@mydom.com>: Sender address rejected: not owned by user a@mydom.com> I would like your comments as to whether I am on a wrong track, trying to "SMTP connect" to ISP SMTP server and if I am not I would appreciate any help I can get, because right now "I am Stuck".     - The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed I'm having a problem getting my Outlook 2003 clients to see our Exchange 2003 standard server. When I create the profile I get the following error when I "Check Name": "The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed." MachineA (Windows 2003 Server) is the exchange server and also hosts external DNS and runs VMWare. VMWare runs MachineB (Windows 2003 Server) which is the DC & GC and hosts DHCP & DNS. MachineA points to MachineB for DNS and all desktop machines (Windows XP Professional) point to MachineB for DNS. We are moving from a linux solution (Postfix & CourierIMAP) to Exchange but can't get past this hurdle.     - Syncronise Public Folders accross Ex 2k svrs I have a set of Exchange 2000 servers. One master and 4 slaves, what I mean by this is the master was the first one built in domain.com the rest look after mailboxes in child domains of domain.com. The root mail server has a set of public folders that its users use. I want to be able to allow mail users in the child domain access to the public folders. Is there a way to sync the servers.     - Intelligent Message Filtering Performance Object not in Perfmon List I have E2K3 installed on W2K3, native mode. I installed Intellegent Message FIltering and then installed the update for it, and then rebooted the machine. I went into System Manager and configured it per the instructions. I then went into perfmon and looked for the "MSExchange Inteligent Message Filter" Performance Object as per the instructions, but it wasn't on the list.     - Multiple Domains - One Server We are a parent company to a number of small entities. Each has seperate domain names (email, web, locations, etc) with no more than 4 or 5 users. Currently, each entity is managed through an ISP - not all the same. I would like to find a way to provide a central solution for Email, OWA, while maintaining their seperate identities/domains.     - unable to move public folders--5.5 to 2003 I have setup a new 2003 server and added it to my current 5.5 organization. I can successfully move mailboxes without any trouble. When I try to move public folders from 5.5 to 2003 I end up with an empty public folder. This is diffucult to test as pfmigrate does not let you choose the PF to move. I can the info in public folder back by removing the new replication entry for the PF through ESM.... Can anyone provide me with a step by step way to move a public folder from 5.5 to 2003? I would like to be able to pick the folder to move so if doing this through the ESM gui is the only way to do this then that is fine.... Also do I need to turn on Send Hierarchy in the ESM?     - Sequence of Frontend- backend E2k3 server We have one windows 2003 domain/forest and twelve Exchange 2000 servers. We are upgrading three sites to Exchange 2003 using Swing/Move mailbox method. We also have two SSL front end server in NLB running Exchange 2000. My questions are: 1) I understand that we need to first upgrade front end server. I plan to take one front end server out and install Exchange 2003/Windows 2003. I will be designating this server as the first Exchange 2003 server and then making it front end server. When I use the EXDEPLOY, do I have to make it as first Exchange 2003 server. I did run into issues, when i installed mailbox server as first server in test lab and then installed front end server as second server. OWA 2003 only shows me the template and no messages. 2) After this, I will reinstall the second OWA server as Exchange 2003. I will designate this as second exchange 2003 server using Exchange deployment tools. Then change the role to front end. I will then NLB both the front server. 3) After the front end is done, then I plan to install a new backend mailbox exchange 2003 server in one site and start moving mailboxes to Exchange 2003.     - Where might my mail be going? I have set up a new Exchange 2003 Server. Everything works fine for e-mails sent to me@mydomain.com. However, I also want emails sent to metoo@differentdomain.com to arrive in my me@mydomain.com mailbox. I have updated the MX record so that e-mails sent to metoo@differentdomain.com point to my Exchange server. I have added the smtp address metoo@differentdomain.com to my User Profile under e-mail addresses. What else might I need to do? e-mails are getting lost in space.     - LDAP question w/ Barracuda I have a Barracuda Spam Firewall that has a builtin Exchange Accelerator which basically hooks into the Exchange server and verifies the email address before sending the email to the server.     - upgrade 5.5-2003--priv.edb size In am in the process of upgrading from 5.5 std to 2003 Ent. My Priv.edb on my 5.5 server is about 15 gb. I have moved about 1 gb of mailboxes to the 2003 Ent server. I can see that the priv1.edb on the 2003 Ent server has grown by the 1 gb but the 5.5 db has not decreased in size.     - Windows or Exchange? Ok, this is a good one. 2003 DC, GC, DNS, & WINS NetDiag & DCDiag pass all tests Always get the following errors on boot: 1. Kerberos [537] An error occurred during login. 2. UserENV [1097] Windows cannot find the machine account, the local security authority cannot be contacted. According to Microsoft these errors are normal and should be ignored. THEN we installed Exchange Server 2003. Now we get the first two errors followed by these, 1. SA fails to start [No log error] 2. IS fails to start [Dependency on SA] 3. MTA fails to start [Depenency on SA] 4. Event fails to start [Dependency on IS] 5. MSADC [8026] LDAP bind was unsuccessful - Server down.     - Best Configuration for multiple sites over intermittent WAN ? Greetings list members, Here is the situation I am looking at. Id like to know what people think is the best method for providing good email and domain services between these 2 sites that are connected by and expensive (and intermitttent) WAN link (with VPN). Site1: Windows Server 2003/Exchange Server 2003 All email is delivered to this site (MX Record points to this address for the domain) Site2: Windows Server 2003/Exchange Server 2003 Provides local site users with collaboration functionality GFI MailEssentials with POP2Exchange periodically connects to Site1 to download mail At the moment Site1 and Site2 are connected by a reasonably reliable WAN connection. So, we have a single exchange organization with these 2 sites defined. Mail seems to flow between mailboxes located on each of the 2 exchange servers. However, this WAN connection is about to get very expensive, so we would like to have the GFI pop2exchange service periodically connect to download mail from Site1 to Site2. Also, GFI Mail Essentials pop2exchange service deletes the email once it has retrieved it. Is anyone aware of a method that can be used to retain the emails (prevent them from being deleted) on site1 even though the pop client has retrieved them to site2?     - Migrating Public Folders Hi We will be carrying out a parallel migration (Exch 5.5 to Exch 2003) within the same org site. I know i need to use the ADC, exchange migration task wizard to move mailboxes, but what shuold i be using in order to migrate the public folders/distribution lists.     - Messages stay in outbox on 1 client for too long - using WinXP Pro SP2 One of our clients is having delays in receiving and sending mail. When the person sends a mail, the message seem to stay in the outbox for a long while, however if they click on the 'outbox' the message goes and moves to the sent items folder. It only appears to be one client and they are not trying to send attachments etc. Also received messages seem to be delayed also... and don't flag up in the inbox..however I got him to click the inbox and the mail appeared. I have tried removing and re-creating the mail profile on his PC (Windows XP Pro SP2) but the problem remains. Can anyone recommend a solution? He is well within the the 'limits' for his mailbox. No other clients are exhibiting this behaviour. Our setup: Exchange 2000 mailboxes and Outlook 2000 clients.     - need help replicating global address book We have a site with 4 exchange 5.5 servers. The original 5.5 server has gone offline. Since then I can't get the global address book to replicate between the remaining 3 servers.     - exchange domain extension change...help! Hi All, I have an exchange 5.5 setup on a computer called exchangeny. When it was created about 6 years ago, it was given a domain extension of xxx.com, which I know to be a no-no for an internal domain. I am in the process of upgrading our NT servers to 2003, and will be upgrading exchange to 2003 as well. Accordingly, I have brought online a 2003 server with AD and DNS. During the install process of the DNS, I changed the domain extension to xxx.local. So far, so good. I repointed all the clients (via DHCP) to the new 2003 DNS, and they are all happy campers.....EXCEPT... I have a 2003 terminal server which has outlook 2003 on it with a bunch of users created. These users cannot get to the exchange server via outlook - no available or offline. After looking at the problem, I found that the exchange server in the profile for each user is set to exchangeny.xxx.com - not just plain ole exchangeny. Short of logging in to each existing profile, is there a way to change this behaviour??? Thanks to anyone who can help!!!!!     - Exchange 5.5 to 2000 running on 2000 AD Here is the current situation at my company. When I came here, they were running a NT4 domain with two exchange 5.5 servers, one of which was the PDC. Since then, I have upgrade the domain to 2000 AD running in mixed mode. The former PDC is now a BDC being replicated from the a 2000 DC. So our current configuration includes a 2000 AD domain with all 2000 or better servers except for the two exchange 5.5 servers which still run on NT4. What I want to do is run the new exchange server off a new 2000 server box and get rid of the old NT boxes. I've read through alot of how to's and books about upgrading exchange and wondered what the best way to do it is in my case. The company is behind times in technology and they want to upgrade exchange 5.5 to 2000 enterprise exchange. It is a small network with around 75 or so users. I have already done the forest and domain prep sucessfully for AD and ran ADC to export the recipients from 5.5. I did get a few errors and warnings about not being able to recreate some objects. Is this because i'm running in a mixed mode? I read you need 2000 exchange already installed before you can export public folders so I have not done that yet.     - GAL question We are running Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003. We have one forest with two domains. A domain for students and a domain for faculty.     - SMTP smart host Hi all I am setting up a SMTP 2003 smart host that is going to forward mail for my two domains to my two internal exchagne servers. I am in the middle of a migration from 5.5 to 2003 both I am doing a intra-org migration. Both exchagne servers can accept mail for my two mail domains i.e domainA.com and domainB.com. When I setup the remote domains on the SMTP VS server i am selecting route forward mail to smart host using the exchagne servers ip address in brackets i.e [192.168.1.1] my question is if the 5.5 server and the 2003 server both acecpt mail for domainb.com and domaina.com then what is the proper way to configre the SMTP VS server so that if a mail comes in for user@domainA.com and that users mailbox is on the 5.5 server but the smtp VS forwared the email to the 2003 server, then is there a way for the 2003 server to know that it needs to route this email to the 5.5 server where the users mailbox is? What i would like to do is be able to forward all mail from the SMTP VS to one internal exchange server, and the exchagne would then route the mail on to the other server if it doesnt have the mailbox for the user who is suppsoed to get the email.     - Workgroup to Domain in SBS2003/Exchange I have 20 users here on my network. We've all been on a workgroup. We've all been using Outlook 2003 too. Some people have tons of junk on their computers (desktops, my documents, created folders, etc...). I'm wondering about 2 things. 1. Is there a quick way or tool that will/can migrate a user and all their stuff from having been in a workgroup to the new domain account (that's created under documents and settings) - and.. 2. Those *.pst files I've found from users in the workgroup using Outlook 2003 - but are now moving to using Outlook 2003 via exchange server in a domain - how do I import/move their email?     - "Unsupported character" in site name. Can I get a solid answer? I am trying to join a E2K3 Server to a E5.5 site. The Site name contains a Comma (,) and a preiod (.). I have changed the "Display name" of the site, but I cannot change the Directory Name. During the pre-installation steps on E2K3, OrgCheck is still showing the "unsupported character" result.     - Importing from .pst file and DLs I installed Exchange Server 2003 in December. We did not upgrade this was a fresh install. I imported users mail, contacts etc from their .pst files and everything seemed to go fine. Today I noticed that some users .pst file is still updating when I look at the modified date of the file. I would think that once imported, the pst file is no longer needed or used. It appears there is still a transparent link to some of the pst files for some folders within Outlook. One user in particular had a subfolder under his Inbox that was still putting things to the pst. Additionally, many users Distribution lists do not work if the pst file is deleted or renamed. I want to break all ties with the pst. When I did the import I selected the root folder of the pst and checked the box to Include all Subfolders.     - emails not going! Hi, We have SBS2003 set up in the office mainly used for sharing calendars in Outlook 2003 between users. That part of the system seems to be working fine. Our email system is not via Exchange, we use our pop3 accounts on our domain name/website hosting account. So each user has their POP3 account (for emails) and a microsoft exchange server account (for sharing calendars and folders on the server within Outlook. Over the last few days some of our emails are not being sent. They are staying in the outbox and not going anywhere. Can someone tell me why that might be please? The emails are being 'sent' via the correct account (POP3) but sometimes we get a 'can not be deleivered' message back and this comes from the server! Please, why is this happening? The server has not been set up to send emails yet, mainly due to the fact that I can't seem to get it to work with our setup. Single Network adapter connected to a Draytek Vigor modem/router (ADSL) with a static IP. When I try to set it up I get a message back telling me that the DHCP server is not enabled.     - Help with Exchange 2003 on WinSvr2003 We were working fine on our email using WinSvr2003's built-in SMTP & POP3 servers. But we wanted a webmail interface for traveling users. We went through all the steps for installing Exchange 2003 which included disabling/removing the SMTP & POP3 services..and creating a domain, which we didn't have before. I believe we have the DNS Server set up properly as NSLOOKUP returns "localhost" as the instructions say. But the Exchange Server doesn't work. It can send email to any AD user setup on the local server, but any emails sent out to the internet just sit in the queue with an error "remote server not responding". Also, the POP3 service won't start, no error other than a timeout error when trying to start it. Even though it shows the SMTP server is running, I get an "unable to establish a connection to x.x.x.x port 25" when trying to telnet to it. It seems that the only thing working now is the web interface. BTW: our email system isn't down. We are going to replace that server with this one if we ever get exchange working correctly. No. The ADC is just for the upgrade/migration phase when going from 5.5
Exchange to 200x Exchange.
The administrative tools installation would enable you to see the tabs
you're after.

But make sure you are using the Exchange 2k3 latest version of the ADC - NOT
the W2k3 ADC.
