    - ProbleM: when I restore a mailbox using Exmerge with a pst file, nothing is transferred. Hi, I am practising Exmerge for a big remote site migration in a couple of weeks. One thing I dont understand is that I can backup one test mailbox fine using Exmerge (I know this works, as I have opened the mailbox pst file within outlook and everything is there), but when I perform the restore using the pst file, nothing happens. There is no error messages, and Emerge goes through the motions (though it finishes supsiciously quick), but when I open the mailbox, no emails have been restored. Although it is great that Exmerge is working for the backup part of the stage, I am disappointed it isnt working for the restore. I really dont want to move the mails from pst files manually when the migratio happens, so if anyone out there has any ideas that would be great.     - Install Exchange 2003 without AD in domain I have a small, 2 server Windows 2003 environment. I tried replacing the one Exchange 2003 server and had many issues. I demoted the Exchange server prior to uninstalling Exchange. Now AD thinks the Exchange server is still there. When I try to install Exchange, it says there is already another Exchange server on the network. Microsoft has spent five hours trying to clean things up, but I have a feeling only a complete reinstall of both servers would correct my problem. The only other idea is to install Exchange on a non-AD machine. In others words I will install Exchange in it's own workgroup. I understand I will have to manage both servers separately, but I only have 15 users with little turnover. I know this would work, but what are the "gotchas" involved? Thanks! Tag: 55 Mig Error.     - HELP!!! Hi. Last friday evening my Windows 2000 server blue screened...problem with the hard drive. I believe the Windows 2000 server was the DC and Catalog Server. When I setup a user in the W2K AD...it replicated over to my exchange 2k3 server and at the exchange server I had to create the mailbox. Anyhow I rebuilt the Windows 2000 server and made it the DC and catalog server once again. Upon the W2k Server crash I had noticed that my Exchange 2k3 server retained the original AD info. However, in between doing different things I somehow blew away that info. I have to re-install Windows 2003 and reconfigure it on the Exchange server. My exchange data is still in-tact and resides in the D: partition which is NOT the same as my system partition.     - ADC - still confused! I've recently upgraded our NT domain to AD / Win2003 and am now ready to move from Exchange 5.5 to 2003 by installed a new Exchange 2003 server into my existing 5.5 organisation. (Single domain, single server, single site) I know during the install of Exchange 2003 I will be prompted to install the ADC to link the 5.5 directory to AD but am worried what impact this will have on the current users in AD (and their attribute values). The current situation is that each 5.5 mailbox has a corresponding user in AD (ie if you look at the "Primary Windows NT Account" setting for each mailbox it points to the correct AD user in my domain - I did an in place upgrade of a NT PDC to get AD populated). Since getting AD up and running I have spent a lot of time getting the user info in AD (Phone numbers, section memberships, job titles etc) up to date. The info in the Exchange 5.5 directory is relatively out of date. My questions are:- 1. When I install the ADC to link 5.5 with AD will the old information in the 5.5 directory overwite that in AD - and if so can I stop this from happening. 2. When I install the ADC to link 5.5 with AD will the ADC automatically detect that the relevant users exist - or will it try to create users. 3. Is the ADC a 2-way connection, 1-way from 5.5 to AD, or 1-way from AD to 5.5. Ideally I would like any changes in AD to be pushed to 5.5 but not the other way. 4. Isn't the 5.5 directory already linked somehow to AD (even without the ADC) as each mailbox is linked to an AD user - can't get my head around this one. 5.     - Adding mailbox to users in other domain Hi, I have a domain, Works.local, with an exchange environment and this works fine. Now we have added a extra domain in the tree, Future.Works.Local and the users there also need to use Exchange. I installed the Exchange System Manager on the Dc from this new domain and if I ad a new user to that domain the 'Add User Wizzard' asks me to create a mailbox.     - Just a couple quick questions on Setting up users We are migrating a GW system to Exchange 2k3. I have most everything setup but have a few questions on user setup for some unique users. First Part Currently we have cases were there are 3 users with separate e-mail accounts that share a single generic computer logon on the same computer. Is this possible in Exchange? If so, Is this were I would create these accounts as Contacts instead of the traditional mail-enabled windows account? Is there anything I need to do to force Outlook to ask for a username and password so that each users doesn't get into each others e-mail? Second Part I plan to setup mailbox storage limits and other settings for my users. If I have users setup as just Contacts, can I setup these things for these users? I ask since I do not see some of these settings under the Properties for Contacts. Reasoning is that I have remote Sales People that will only connect via Outlook Webaccess and I do not see options to enable these features for these users. Third Part How do you suggest setting up resources to schedule? We have rooms and computer equipment that we currently have setup as a Resource in GW.     - Ex3k and multiple domains Hi all. I've got a problem. I have Ex3k and several W3k domains: root.com, child1.root.com, chidl2.root.com. root.com and child1.root.com are located in one site. child2.root.com is in another site. replication is set up and I see no problems in the event viewer about replication. Replmon reports successful replications between these sites. for the moment I have only one GC - it is DC in root.com. I'm trying to install Ex3k in the following order: 1. root.com - forestprep 2. root.com - domainprep. 3. ex3k - installation. 4. wait several hours to complete the replication for all child domains. 5. child2.root.com - domainprep. 6. wait for some time 7. create new RUS for child2.root.com domain on Ex3k server and click on "Update now". I see not problems from MSExchangeAL in the event viewer. Diagnostics logging show no problems as well. I'm trying to create a new user in child2.root.com. When I come to the step where I'm asked to create a mailbox - I see no any storage groups available! When I connect to child2.root.com from AD Users and Computers from root.com and can create the mailbox but then this mailbox is not shown under mailboxes node for the ex3k server in ESM console and I cannot logon under this user.     - I need help with - event log errors after migrating to exchange 20 I am currently in the process of migrating exchange 2000 to exchange 2003 on new hardware. I have transfered the RUS role, offline address book role and replicated the public folders ect. and now am beginning to move maiboxes. I noticed 3 very repetive errors in the application event log however. I was wondering if someone could tell me whether these messages are somthing I should be concerned with. See them below.     - Exchange 2003 / DC In the process of migrating from Exch 5.5 to Exch 2003. Have a NT 4.0 / Win 2003 server lab setup. Have completed the following in the lab - installed the first Win 2003 server as a DC, installed a second Win 2003 server and ran DCPROMO to make it a second DC, installed a third Win 2003 server as a member server. Installed the first Exch 2003 on the member server, installed the second Exch 2003 on the second DC. Previous posts have questioned whether to install Exch 2003 on a DC ?? So far I have not had any issues with ADC, moving mailboxes, GAL or offline address lists, but the test lab is 5 users.     - Multi site Exchange 2003 Hi All, We have 4 sites that are currently running seperate mail servers (Exchange and Linux), we want to set up all sites so that all users are in an AD and can share their calendars via Outlook, but we still want each site to have it's own Exchange server (sharing one domain name). All 4 sites are connected via a WAN and also have an Internet connection. Can we create an Exchange organisation that has 4 exchange servers, will we a users on Exchange site 1 be able to see a shared calendar on Exchange site 2 ? Also can we set up 4 mx records (with equal preference) so that incoming email can be delivered to any of the Exchange servers and then routed over the WAN to the Exchange server that is the mailbox store for the recipient ?     - ADC not fully replicating I have recently installed ADC on a new server we are migrating 5.5 onto. I have ran all steps included with the deployment on the exchange 2003 CD and everything checks ok. The problem I have is step 4 on Verify in the ADC tools doesn't complete. The second verify says there are still objects needed to replicate onto the 5.5 exchange. I have three connectors, Public (Two-way), users (Two-way) and Config CA (Two-way). No objects are in the logs adcobjectcheck.xml and I have installed 2003 with SP2. I don't know if I can keep proceding with the migration or if I should correct this problem first. I have looked and seen everything replicate so far onto AD but obviously there is something holding it up. Is it ok to proceed or should I correct first before the migration? If I need to correct, how can I check and see what object is causing the problem? For reference the 5.5 server is windows 2000 and 2003 server is Win2k3. Both have updates installed.     - forestprep missing permissions Hello, I tried to prepare my forest (Microsoft Exchange 2000 mode) to Microsoft Exchange 2003. (both german versions) on a domain controller with global catalog. Windows 2000 Server SP4, Exchange 2000 SP3 + Post SP3 (Exchange was new installed on a new server) dcdiag and netdiag work well. During Forestprep I get everytime the error, that I haven't the permission or the AD is busy. So first I checked all rights (enterprise admin, schema admin, domain admin, local admin) for the user account. Everything fine. Looking in the ExchangeSetup log file: --- part from log file --- - Entering ScDetermineIfLocalDomainServerGroupHasAlreadyBeenACLedOnExchangeCT - Using cached result for domain "/dc=de/dc=schloss-neubeuern" - The required permissions have not already been set --- log file part end --- hypothetic questions: (the questions which can help me see below ) a) So what could be the "CT" after Exchange (first log file part line)? b) which one is the local domain server group? The group "DomÃ¤nencontroller" (engl. domain controllers) in Gruppen (engl. groups)? The "Exchange Enterprise Server" in Users? there are no local group? c) which object will be checked by forestprep? I know it is coded in walksdll.dll I found, that in most knowledge bases artikels the SeSecurityPrivilege is mentioned. And I tried different kb. (314294, EDSLockScript from SP2, 254030, Q292757, 313807; Q328906; q279749; 326136, ...) I also tried KB 830186. It doesn't work. I have setup the server as a Front end server and install a certificat to use ssl, but It is the only thing i did. I did not find any step by step to setup owa.     - Exchange eval to full version. Our trial version of Exchange 2003 enterprise edition has now expired. I have read the Microsoft document on how to do the in-place-upgrade and retain the data, by selecting reinstall. I have done this and it states it has completed successfully. Unfortunately it still stops the services every hour or so and it still shows as enterprise/evaluation in exchange system manager. I have checked numerous google groups, ect, and it apears other people have had this issue, but no one has resolved it other that doing a complete/fresh install. I cannot do this as it is a production server, and the backups are incomplete.     - Recovering mail from old domain I had to rebuild my ADC/Exchange Server, and give it a new domain name. I have the old .EDB/.STM files mounted as a Recovery Storage Group but when I try ExMerge, I get the following errors: Error! Cannot identify the user with the msExchMailboxGuid M\18\0C\BF\BD\D6\B5B\B0\A9\2E\E3fI\14L. The legacyExchangeDN is /O=OLDDOMAINNAME/OU=FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=USER1. I also tried the Recover Mailbox Data Exchange Task. I accept the offered Destination Mailbox Store of NEWSERVERNAME/First Storage Group/Mailbox Store (NEWSERVERNAME) and it fails with the following error: "The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000" The system shows the 2 email accounts in that storage group, but I don't see how I can migrate/map them over to the new server. The old server is toast, so I cannot simply connect the two. I've run eseutil & isinteg and the stores appear OK... --Will Take the dontspam out of the email to email me.     - Exhange 2K in Win2k setup failed Hello All, I'm installing a new exchange server in a new domain (new forest, etc) in a win 2k SP4 server (DC and DNS server). Using the administrator account. In the stage when the Ex 2000 installation is configuring the registry to install Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration the setup fails and gives me the following error: "Setup failed installing sub-component information store service with error code x007007e (please consult installation logs for a detail description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again." If I retry the step it fails again and again. I had tried reinstalling the OS and Ex with the same results so obviously I'm doing something wrong (which I have no idea).     - OWA Login produces 404 after SP2 update We just installed Exchnage 2003 SP2. After the install our frontend server (OWA Server) brings up the login page as normal, but after you type the login name and password to log in it displays page 404 page not found.     - Shared Contacts Setup Is there an easy way to make the following happen? I have an Exchange Server 2003 SP2 that has many individual users and one user named "staff" that folks invite to meetings in order to have the event show up on our "Staff Calendar". This works great! Now we want to share Contacts in a similar way. The ideal scenario is: User opens Outlook or Entourage and the default address book is a combination of the GAL and this Staff account's contacts. This default also holds true for OWA clients.     - force e2k3 removal My Exchange setup has 2 servers. ServerA & ServerB ServerA was the first server installed, since then the mailboxes appear to have been moved to a bigger server (ServerB). ServerA has been powered off since June and everything is functioning. I do not know the status of ServerA. I know it still runs, but I didn't plug it into the network on boot incase it had been compromised in some way. Ideally I should reconnect the box and remove Exchange that way, but because the previous admin is not here (nor available) I have not idea what happened to ServerA and why it was shut down. Therefore I would like to format ServerA and repurpose it. Is there an article somewhere on how to force remove a server from the exchange hierarchy?     - Moving Exchange 5.5 to new server Yes...We will be going to Exchange 2003 soon but for the moment I desparately need to put my existing Exchange 5.5 on a new box. I have followed the directions of KB155216 that instructs me to move the files priv.edb, pub.edb, dir.edb, and the corresponding log files to the corresponding location on my new server however, when I do this the Event Service and Message Transfer service do not turn back on. The application log reports a MAPI which according to the the Microsoft KB indicates that certain dll files are not registered properly and to try to re-register these files.     - How do I create an account in Exchange that can open any mailbox in the domain? Hi, As a generic (but mostly desktop) Windows guy at my last organisation, I once used an excellent little article to setup a administration account for Exchange that could open any mailbox on the organisation for test / troubleshooting purposes. I would log in to the client machine using that logon and then configure the mail profile to match the server\mailbox of the account I wanted, and then it would open up the user's mailbox in Outlook. Unfortunately, I cannot remember how to do this, although I know it was very simple. I am sure this question will irritate many due to its low level nature, but can anyone point me in the right direction to do this again? I am temping as an IT guy at a new organisation, and when I asked the others how to access user mailboxes in this way they looked completely baffled. Any advice would be very welcome.     - Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 - questions I have recently successfully upgraded our old NT domain to Active Directory/Win2003 and now I need to implement Exchange 2003 (on new hardware). Current status of the network is as follows: AD is in place (domain is at Interim level as we still have 1 NT BDC). 1 Exchange 5.5 SP4 server handles all mail - this runs on a W2K member server. Exchange 5.5 mailboxes all point back to the corresponding user account in AD. A new Win2003 server is ready and available to install Exchange 2003 on Just want to clarify a few things about the move. 1. Before I start the migration process I plan to decommission the last NT BDC. Am I ok to do this or does Exchange 5.5 need an NT BDC domain controller to function? 2. Am I right in saying that the best way to migrate is to install the new Exchange 2003 server into the existing Exchange 5.5 organisation? If so will I then be able to move the mailboxes a few at a time? 3. I'm a little confused about the ADC - I know it links together AD and the Exchange 5.5 directory but not sure what info it transfers and in which direction. The user/group info in my Active Directory (eg phone numbers, group membership, job titles etc) is alot more up to date than the user info in the Exchange 5.5 directory. I don't want the old info in EX5.5 to overwrite new info in AD when I install the ADC. 4. Most client PCs are on Outlook 2000 (although they will be upgraded to 2003 - presumably this will be ok with Exchange 2003. 5. We have several things going on: 1) New hardware server replacement for exchange server (1 site, 1 domain, 1 storage group). 2) Upgrade from exchange 2000 to 2003. Here is what my plan is thus far. Let me know if it is sound, needs tweaking, or needs to be scrapped. 1) Setup new server, join domain 2) Install exchange 2003 on it (forestprep and domainprep first) as a second server in same storage group. 3) Upgrade old server to exchange 2003 4) Move mailboxes using exchange 03's move scheduler 5) Leave old server up for 1 month to ensure all (*most) clients have moved to new server 6) After all mailboxes moved, change outside IP/inside IP NAT in firewall, move SSL cert for OWA, ...     - protocol stack question? I have 2 sites which connected with an IPLC line. Each site having an ex55 and ex2k running and the ADC already installed. There are no problem if the user's mailbox is located on ex55 it can send out and receives from both sites and internet. But once I moved the user's mailbox to Ex2k; no problem to send out and receives from the internet side but not on the inter-site's side. I am wondering do I need to add the X.400 stack on Ex2k server? Since I don't really understand how does the mail flow for inter-side after mailbox had moved to ex2k.     - Exchange 2000 to 2003 Migration We will be upgrading our current Exchange 2K environment to an Exchange 2003 setup. The new Exchange will be on a new server within the same domain as the 2000. I want to use the migration tool to move the mailboxes over to the new server. My question is. Can I setup the new server as a different "organization" and use the same server name as the existing server? I know you can't migrate to a server within the same organization. If I can use the same server name then I won't have to change the Outlook configurations of the clients. They currently point to server1 and when I'm done they will still point to server1 although on a different box. Is this possible? Are there any other ways to do this type of migration?     - Upgrade from Exchange 2000 failed I recently upgraded our server from SBS2000 to SBS2003. It seems to have mostly worked, except... After the upgrade most of the Exchange services were disabled. I fixed that, and mounted the mailbox store, now users can access their mailboxes and send email. But I have tried to install SP2 and also run ExBPA and both fail telling me that Exchange is not installed. The SBS internet and email wizard does not show the internet options. I am having two issues.
Situation
Single domain with 2 x 5.5 servers in the same site.
Carried out all the normal migration steps for going to Exchange 2003.

Everything seemed to be going fine but after installing the first exchange
2003 server the following occured.

One -------
In system manager two administrative groups are being shown.
One is "Correct Name" and under servers it has the 2 x 5.5 boxes and the new
2003 server. (It also has all the other normal folders such as system
policies, connectors, folders etc)

The other admin group is "Correct Name:ce13cab0-1c5c-42e2-9536-7a867f93dab7"
Under servers it has the 2 x 5.5 boxes. Also other then the servers folder
is only the connectors folder.

How do I safely remote the incorrect administrative group?

I see some web postings which state "NAISAdm5 is a custom object created by
Groupshield. Add homeMdb, homeMta info to the properties of NAISAdmin5 with
ADSIedit."

Is this correct and any hints on how to do this?
