 - can not recieve or send e-mails Hi I just install exchange 2003 on a 2nd domain controller. Install service pack 2. internally i can send e-mail and recieve e-mails on my xxxxx.local but not externally. My domain is xxxxxx.local , it is not a public domain, I mean it does not have xxxx.com or xxx.net. After installing the exchange i went to the reciepient policy and added the domain that i want to recieve on (zzzzz.net). I had my reasons not to have the xxxxx.local not to be a zzzzz.local for which we have a public domain called zzzz.net.  - Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 migration + cross-forest move Hi, I am looking on some information how what the best practices should be when migrating from an Exchange 2000 server, to a Exchange 2003 server, but also moving to a new domain at the same time. Right now, I have 2 domains (in different forests) setup that have a 2 way trust set up. The primary domain (say DomainA) is running Windows 2003 AD in native mode, with an Exchange 2003 server running in Exchange native mode as well. The second domain (DomainB) is running a Windows 2000 AD, with the Exchange 2000 server there. I would like to move all mailboxes from the Ex2000 server in DomainB to a brand new Ex2003 server in DomainA. I've found that I can use the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) to transfer the accounts from one domain to the other, but I haven't been able to find out if there is a way to move the mailboxes as well. FYI, after the migration, I will be getting rid of the second domain. If anyone can give any tips or point me in the right direction, that would be great. TIA. In a single server Exchange 2003 SP2 = deployment along side a separate 2003 DC and behind an ISA 2004 SP1 = server, which I will certainly upgrade to 2006 if that proves to be the = problem. =20 My problem (which I would guess is more Exchange or DC related rather = than ISA) is that I cannot get a client machine which is XP SP2 w/ = Outlook 2003 SP2 to connect to the Exchange server within the firewall = on the corpnet using HTTP(S). I have tried the outlook /rpcdiag to help = debug the problem, but I am repeatedly prompted to login which never = occurs so the /rpcdiag switch doesn't help much.  - Cannot install another E2k3 server in domain I get an error trying to install my 2nd E2k3 server in my existing E2k environment. I am in the process of migrating users from E2K to E2K3. I have installed a 2nd server multiple times for OWA but for various reasons have had to rebuild it. Since it is only my OWA server I delete the server from AD and Exchange and just start over. However I am now getting the following error when I try to do another install on a fresh server (it doesn't matter what name it is) The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaberation Services" cannot be assigned Administration Group....blah,blah blah. In the log I get the following : CComBOIFacesFactory::QueryInterface (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\bo\bofactory.cxx:54) Error code 0X80004002 (16386): No interface. I can't seem to find the match in the knowledge base that will fix my issue. I have seen similar errors but nothing seems to match. Any ideas?  - Certificate of Authority I want to install SSL Certificates so that my users can use Outlook on the Internet without VPN's I have 2 Exchange 2K3 Servers in 2 different AD sites connected via a VPN. When I go to install the certificate service, do I install an Enterprise Certificate so that both servers can use them and should I install it on a DC. No Internet commerce involved.  - Exchange 2003 Migration From Exchange 5.5 Hello all I am having issues moving some mailboxes from my Exchange 5.5 Server. The majority of mailboxes have been migrated however some have not. When I choose move mailbox on the rogue mailboxes the count moves to greater than 100% and just keeps going. I have to cancel in the end and I receive no errors apart from the fact that I have cancelled the migrate. It seems to start with the message Moving Mailbox. Root (8128/9) as an example. The ones that have completed do not have Root they just say moving Inbox / Sent Items etc and complete normally.  - Eastern Character Sets Hello All Do I have to do anything on Exchange Server 2003 to support clients running the Chinese version of Outlook/XP? I remember in 5.5 you have to load language templates on the server itself. Also the address templates I see in ESM, I am sssuming they are used for email address support so the addresses of chinese users appear in chinese to other chinese users?  - problem with adc installation I tried to install ADC to a server and got the error message "An internal component has failed" ID no: c103798a. Log files show that this comes from the command regsvr32 /i /s maildsmx.dll which reports Access is denied. I successfully installed adc to another server (dc) and that's okay - but now I see two AD connectors in the ADC Tools display. One at the first server where the installation failed and second at the DC where everything went okay. Question: how do I remove the ADC from the first server or how do I remove the information from the AD that there is an ADC at that server?  - SMTP Issues I have had numerous problems with trying to send e-mail since installing SBS 2003 with Exchange. I have spent many days on this issue, so any help would be greatly appreciated. When I do a google search, I see others have also had these issues but I can't find a resolution. Here are the things I have tried/experienced: 1. I have SBS 2003 also set up as the DHCP server. All of the DHCP clients on the network were receiving/sending mail just fine using Outlook that is connecting to an outside Pop3 server and the ISP's SMTP server. When I tried setting up Exchange on the server, I got a call from employees that they could no longer send e-mail. I hadn't changed a thing on any of the client PC's or in their Outlook. In order to get them to send mail again, I had to setup static IP addresses with the router as the gateway and DNS server. 2. I tried setting up one client's e-mail on the Exchange server using the Pop3 connector. I am able to receive e-mail all day without any problems using the Pop3 connector. But when I try and send e-mail through Outlook which is configured to go through the Exchange server, it usually gets stuck in the queue. I have tried setting the SMTP connector both ways - either DNS or Smarthost. 3. DNS / PTR Records - When trying to use DNS instead of a Smarthost, I say "usually" in #2 above because if I send mail to places such as verizon.net, hotmail.com, or yahoo.com, my mail gets stuck in the queue. But if I send it to a gmail.com account, it sends. I have read several places that this is due to the receiving host not accepting records from sending hosts that do not have correct PTR Records. I don't understand this enough to know what I need to do to fix this. We have a static external IP address. Is this something that I need to get our ISP to help fix, or is this something I can change on our SBS 2003 to respond with a correct PTR record? 4. Smarthost - I have tried setting this up every which way possible. I have changed settings both in the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" protocol settings as well as the "Small Business SMTP Connector" settings. I have followed numerous guidelines on the web. I have put in our ISP's SMTP settings, username, password, etc., in both places. But I always have the same result - e-mail gets stuck in the queue. 5. Firewall Settings - What ports, if any, need to be opened to receive e-mail through the Pop3 connector? - What ports, if any, need to be opened to send e-mail if using Smarthost? - What ports, if any, need to be opened to send e-mail through DNS? 6. Tools - I have tried using tools such as nslookup.exe and smtpdiag.exe. According to the web articles, when I run these tools from the SBS command line, I get back valid results with no errors. 7. Other thoughts - What is the correlation between DHCP clients not being able to send mail to the ISP's SMTP server and Exchange not being able to send mail either through Smarthost?  - two internet domains going into one exchange server I have two internet domains, (ie xxx.com.au and yyy.com.au) with both A records held by our ISP. I would John.Doe to receive internet email for both John.Doe@xxx.com.au and John.Doe@yyy.com.au. I was simply going to add both smtp email addresses to John.Does account. Plus get the ISP to direct smtp traffic for both internet domains to our single Exchange server. Do I have to make any other configuration changes to the Exchange Server??  - I cannot join an my existing Exchange 5.5 organization hi and thanks for you help I am trying to migrate to Exchange 2003 from Exchange 5.5. I have created and followed all the deployment steps in the deployment tools. I have run domainprep, forestprep about a month ago. I have created my ADC connector which I installed from exchange 2003 cd. my problem is that when I am installing exchange 2003 in my windows domain controller I get a screen to type in my password for my domain adminstrator account. the problem is that I have a different domain administrator and the option to change this default username administrator windows account is greyed out. Also the option to select my domain is also greyed out. The whole think I have access to is the passwor. Then if I continue to install Exchange 2003 I do not get the screen to join my existing Exchange 5.5 organization.  - OWA not working! help I just recently rebuilt our server ground up, we switched from SBS 03 to Server 03, Exchange 2003 w/SP's installed was setup and email seems to be working fine. The issue is the Online Web Access page is not loading at all... I checked in the IIS/defaultwebsite and all the extensions and files seem to be in place but when you try to bring up the site I just get a Error 404.  - ISP Mail to Exchange 2003 migration Hi, Here's the scenario. About 20 users on W2K3 AD, POPping in to ISP to retreive email. Added Exchange 2k3, and am trying to plan out migration. Currently, user mail is stored locally in PST files on user computers. Exchange is setup (installed and ready to take on accounts), but wondering what the best way would be to proceed. Couldn't find anything for this on MS site. Here are some of the steps that will be looked at. 1 - Friday night, "import" users current pst files in to exchange store (I believe I can do this with exmerge(?)) 2 - Change ISP MX record to point to new exchange server. 3 - reconfigure client Outlook and entourage to point to new mail server. 4 - Monday morning, all is well and time for a drink. Boy, I'm making it sound obvious, but I gather it more complicated than that (and scarier too). Please advise if I'm on right track or totally lost.  - backup failed Hi I'm using BackupExec for our daily backup of Exchange mailboxes. I've checked Veritas website for solution to our issue, but I haven't found it yet. I'm hoping that I can get some help here as well. Everyday, the backup log showed certain exceptions for files that were either left out of the backup or for some reasons were not able to be backed up. Below is what shown in the exception, and there would be 11 pairs of these entries (one for backup and one for verify). A couple days ago, there were only 5 pairs. Now, there are 11. Please let me know what I can do to deal with this problem.  - Simple Exch 2003 setup--best resources??? Good day all. I administer a small domain (50 users, 1 PDC, 1 add'l server). Presently, we're running Kerio 6.2.1 Mailserver, and are interested in moving/migrating to Exchange 2003. 99.9% of the resources I've looked at regarding Exchange cover migrating from Exch 5.5 to 2003, NOT from another mail server package. Also, most of the documentation that I've looked through cover multiple-server, WANs, branch offices, yadda-yadda. I do not need to concern myself with this. Like I indicated above, my situation is simple and straight-forward. What can any of you recommend for a successful installation? FYI...Kerio stores all of my users' email, both archived and "live", as .eml files, which of course open with Outlook Express. This does then offer a better potential for migration? Create the disabled user accounts in AD? However it will add the members to a group. Giving "Full Mailbox access" to the mailbox assuming the disabled users get re-enabled.  - Windows 2000 DC w/Exchange 2003 upgrade to Windows 2003 DC w/Exchange 2003 Hi We currently have 2 DCs. SERVER2 is Windows 2003 DC (all FSMO roles), GC, DNS, WINS. SERVER1 is Windows 2000 DC, Exchange 2003, DNS, WINS. I need to upgrade SERVER1 to Windows 2003 DC. I know hosting Exchange on a DC isn't recommended, but size and budget limitations mean this is the only option I have (if I want to have 2 DCs on the network). I have no additional hardware. Partitions on SERVER1 need to be resized as C: drive only has 1.5GB free. Bit of a nightmare, I know! However, does anyone have any suggestions? I will obviously read-up and test in a lab envt first, however, off the top of my head, I was thinking: (1) Backup Exchange 2003 database on SERVER1 (2) Shutdown SERVER1 (3) Metadata cleanup of SERVER1 in AD and DNS. (4) Clean install Windows 2003 on SERVER1 with repartitioned HDs. (5) dcpromo SERVER1. (6) Install DNS / WINS (7) Clean install Exchange 2003 with /disasterrecovery switch. Is this possible given the fact that I'll be doing a metadata cleanup of SERVER1 DC entries in AD as a previous step? (8) Restore Exchange 2003 databases. Any comments and advice greatly appreciated!  - Free Busy data - how to keep it as up-to-date as possible Our company is on the verge of implementing Outlook as our calendaring and scheduling tool. The free/busy data does not work as I expect it would for invite requests. Ideally, all attendees invited would show as tentative on the free/busy views until they actually viewed their meeting request in their mailbox. What I'm finding is only the attendees that have the Outlook client running are getting updated as tentative (or if they act on the meeting request then a status of accept/decline/etc shows up). If someone is out of the office on vacation and their Outlook client isn't running, the meeting requested times are NOT blocked as tentative for free/busy searches. This poses a problem for many of our users who travel and will not access their Outlook until they are in the office. The knowledgebase help I've found so far reinforces my findings. Is there a way to have everyone's meeting requests processed as tentative for free/busy search purposes whether the client is running or not, until they can act on the meeting request in their inbox ? We are also using an auto accept agent that is running as a service on our exchange server for resources such as rooms and AV equipement. It will accept meeting requests automatically for the resoures. Our resources are setup using a CAL. Anyone know of an equivalent agent that would process meeting requests in all users mailboxes as 'tentative' automatically? This would keep the Free Busy map updated at all times. Upon further investigation, I found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822583 Under the workaround section, i followed the steps and found that Dynamic updates are set to Secure Only did the net stop and net start netlogon after running netdiag /fix, it failed the DNS test with lots of DNS_ERROR_RCODE_SERVER_FAILURE messages and, at the very end, said [FATAL] No DNS Servers have the DNS records for the DC registered. So... I ran through my DNS wizard again, then ran ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns and netdiag /fix still gives me lots of errors. I have inherited an exchange setup as follows, 1 f/e Windows 2003 Ent. and Exchange 2003 Ent. and one b/e Windows 2003 Ent. and Exchange 2003 Ent. the b/e is running out of disk space and in lieu of purchasing new h/w for the messaging infrastructure, I have been told to implement a band-aid solution by using a free server in the office as a 2nd b/e. I have a few questions on the process nad ramifications: 1. Whats the easiest way to add a 2nd b/e end server and move one of the current mail stores from b/e #1 to b/e #2? 2. How will this mail store move affect the clients whose mailboxes are contained in this mail store? 3. Will the move break their connection or will AD take over and remedey the connection? 4. Will the f/e server automatically forward any OWA connections to the new b/e for those users? If not, do I need to create a routing group or will AD take over w/o the need for a routing group? In the primary domain companya.internal we are running exchange 2003 with email addresses as companya.com, we created a second root domain for companyb.internal & want there email addresses as companyb.com in the second domain it has it's own exchange server so now we have 2 exchange servers. Why is the new exchange server in domain companyb.internal when creating new accounts give them the companya.com address as the email address? I want users that are created in companya.internal to have companya.com addresses (This currently still works the way it has for years). But I want users that are created on the companyb.internal domain to have companyb.com address by default? It is like exchange added the new exchange server to the companya organization group and did not create its own companyb organization group. I am not trying to host multiple smtp domains on one server I want them on seperate servers the MX records point to the corasponding exchange servers for each company's domain.  - Smtp Problem Hello, We have Windows 2003, Exchange 2003, ISA 2004, and Symantec Corp 10. We can not send e-mail thru our Exchange server about 2 weeks ago. We did not change any setting. I thought Mcafee enterprise 8.0 block port 25, then I unintall Mcafee change to Symantec. But I still have same problem. In the Event View, I will get the eveni ID 4006. In the Exchange System Manage, I can see alot of messages in the Queses. If I restart the server, all the messages in the queue will send out right away, then just stop. Does this help prevent email from bogus domains? SPAM? I am getting an error when I try to send to a certain domain. The remote host "216.240.32.17", responded to the SMTP command "rcpt" with "450 Client host rejected: cannot find your hostname, [MY MAIL SERVER'S IP] ".  - Exchange 5.5 mailbox migration to AD I have an easy question about moving mailboxes to between 5.5 and AD. I've installed Exchange 2003 into an existing 5.5 org. I have my ADC up and it has created a bunch of disabled objects in AD for each 5.5 mailbox. Unfortunately, I migrated all of my user accounts and groups after the ADC was in place. In many cases the AD users are using their AD account but are tied their Exchange 5.5 mailboxes. How can I migrate the mailboxes from 5.5 to active directory and still let my users keep their existing AD accounts? I've read that the Active Directory cleanup Wizard may help with this.  - installing new Exchange 2000 server into Restore Domain have two domains. the first is our production domain. the second is our Restore domain where we have 2 Exchange 2000 servers. One contains all FSMO roles and is DC for domain. the second is a mimic of production Exchange Server all the way down to storage groups, etc. We use this to conduct mailbox/database recoveries. we installed a new Dell PowerEdge 2850 server into the Restore Domain, installed Dell OpenManage and windows 2000 adv server and GroupShield( just like what we have in production as member server. I installed Exchange 2000 on this server to create a second restore server. Unfortunately, afterward the System Attendant and Information Store service will not start. This server has SMTP, NNTP and Web Services for IIS active. I can not start the Information Store Service or System Attendant. The message I am getting is: Could not start the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service on local computer.  - Migration of Public Folders from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 Hello, This is my first post to this discussion group - please be gentle! We are migrating from Exchange Server 2000 to Exchange 2003. I have moved *all* mailboxes and left the Public Folders until last (big mistake). In a nutshell, the folders are not replicating. I have used the pfMigrate tool to setup the folders for migration. I have verified that all the Public Folders are set to replicate to both the old and new servers. I have verified that the email address (proxyAddresses) are setup correctly for both servers using ADSIEdit. I have setup logging to the suggested levels and there is nothing obvious in the Event Viewer. I do see the Replication Outgoing Messages on both servers but no Replication Inbound Messages on either. I have not been able to see the inbound message in the Message Tracking Log either. This server has been up and running with replication for about ten days and this issue has me stumped. Email messages addressed from a mailbox on the new server to a test mailbox on the old server are transferred just fine. Do I need to create a connector for Public Folder replication? I have seen the article that discusses it, but it says it should be running the same software. Let's say DC domain name is acme.com, then AD user john has a mailing address john@acme.com. How is mail being delivered to your Exchange Server from the Internet?

Are you using two messaging services in your Outlook profile?
