I am planning a migration from NT 4 domain to 2003 AD domain. Right now I
have a Exchange 5.5 running on W2K server, however I am little confused by
the ADC usage. Correct me if I am wrong, I understand that ADC will help my
exchange 5.5 server talk to AD so that after domain upgrade my users can
access their mail accounts, right? Second question, do I want to install ADC
on my exchange 5.5 box after I upgrade domain or do I install it on separate
box, and if separate box does it have to be a server or a workstation. Any
other pointer you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Correct - ADC replicates information between 5.5 server and AD.

Not sure of the best practices here, but I have ADC installed on a seperate
server.

I'm working on the same things. The ADC replicates objects from Exchange 5.5
to AD. The idea is that you want to create dummy accounts in AD so that
users will be able to use AD and still be able to use their mailbox. Once
you have the ADC installed run the Wizard tools an it will tell you if you
have any issues and how to correct them. You can install the ADC on any
server in your domain as long as it's 2k or 2k3. You will basically make a
connection between your Exchange 5.5 box and AD. (The wizard will walk you
through most of it.)
