    - Exchange 2003 Enterprise on Windows 2000 Server I have order Exchange 2007/2003 Enterprise edition. We will install 2003 initially due to legacy agency software compatibility issues with the Exchange 2007. We plan to use the 2003 on a Windows 2000 server until we install 2007 at which time we will upgrade the server os. When ordering the product the salesperson mentioned there would be some limitations on the Exchange 2003 running on Windows 2000 but could not elaborate.     - Need Advice about running Exchange Hi, I work for a small non-profit and we run SBS 2003 which has Exchange 2003 installed. We currently are not using Exchange, our e-mail is hosted by our ISP. My boss wants to have outlook 2003 shared calendaring functionality, and I told him that was only available if we run Exchange. He's concerned about us hosting our own e-mail. I'm the only IT guy (35 employees in the organization) and he is worried about how much time it would take to administer Exchange. What would you suggest?     - WINS: necessary or not? Relp! For Installing Exch2003 in a cluster, docs say, "Make sure that you are running Domain Name System (DNS) and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS). " For a non-clustered installation, it's more vague, saying "MS Docs for Exch2003 say a prereq is, "Domain Name System (DNS) and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) are configured correctly in your Windows site." I'm not running WINS, do I need to install and configure it for all servers & clients on the network? Just servers? The documentation doesn't expand on this at all.     - Could not retrieve E12 webservice url Hi, I get this message when using lotus transporter suite to migrate a mailbox. I was able to synchonize directories between Domino and Active Directory, to create accounts based on Domino accounts but I cannot migrate a mailbox. I guess the problem is related to the autodiscovery process but I didn't found anything usefull on Internet. I get the same issue with the command line. Is there a log created I could check ?     - Disk Allocation on iSCSI SAN So I asked this once before and got one answer and then posted a Similar Question over on the SQL group for the SQL Server and recived a different answer. When setting up Exchange you typically want your Logs on a Different drive then your Data. What about when they are Logical Drives in the same array of an iSCSI SAN? The SQL guys seem to think that since the logical drives are all in the same RAID 5 SAN Array that there really isn't much of a difference if you seperate out your Log files from your Data files. It is much easier to manage one drive and only have to go to one place to make sure the drive had enough room, etc on it. I could conceieve that if I had multiple Logical Drives from the Array mounted on the Exchange/SQL Serves that there is a higher potential for there to be more HD spindals involved, though not sure if that is enough.     - OMA is going to break me! Question Hi Guys, I've posted this in a few places but no answer as yet. Would really appreciate some help. I've spent days researching this. I am having a nightmare getting mobile access working. Iâ??m testing out Exchange 2003 SP2 with sharepoint on the same host. Roadsync is not working, after reading 500 posts i've narrowed it down to the /oma dir. When accessing the /oma directory from IE I get: A System error has occurred while processing your request. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact your administrator. + on Exchange Event 1501 - No user credentials were found in the HTTP request. I have read many postings. Have tried http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/817379, SSL is now disabled. /exchange-oma dir created. + Basic Auth is enabled on this directory. I have also followed suggestions about sharepoint + exchange being hosted on the same box but still no joy. Also made sure Kerberos and NTLM auth are enabled in the metabase which apparently is needed. Have made sure the host headers match the netbios name etc which is another suggestion.     - Problems with forest preparation I have a Exchange Server 2000 Standard Edition(SP3) on a Windows 2000 Server (SP4). I need upgare in-place to Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. I'm running first step - forest preparation/ This step finished with error: Setup failed while installing sub-component Microsoft Exchange Organization-Level Container Children with error code 0x80070005.     - Mailbox Stores - Online Maintenance Best Practice? Is there an MS recommended best practive for scheduling online maintenance intervals for a single Exchange Server 2003 back-end server with 19 mailbox stores? I know they need to be scheduled outside the Exchange backup window, but I'm just curious if the times should be staggard between the different stores, or perhaps just between stores from different storage groups (as a best practice).     - exchange 2007 scale out/up question Hello All, I need to build an exchange 2007 server(s) to support 1000 users. I am not sure how heavy the user load will be. In ms documentation I found a comparison ms uses light....heavy. For the the heavy user microsoft counts 5 MB memory per user. The max mailbox size will be 250 MB / user. I want to get a dual quad-xeon processor dell system with 8 GB of memory. SAS harddrives with raid 0+1 configuration. Any thoughts of this system being powerfull enough ? If I want to scale out, what's the best thing to do ? How to get more servers to load balance the load. Then the question of high availability. I read something about a single copy active/passive cluster. That should do the trick, but I have difficulties in finding nice load balancing solutions.     - Exceeding file size error on pst file import When importing pst files into Outlooks running in cached exchange mode I get "exceeding file size error" after only some 200 - 300 MB of imported data.     - User needs domain admin rights to configure outlook Hello All, Brand new installation -- Windows 2003 R2 Exchange 2003 + Exch SP2 The installation completed without any glitches (atleast i think so). No errors in the event viewer, and i do see a event message that says installation completed successfully. The Exchange setup progress log also says installation completed successfully. But i see new log entries after the "installation completed succesfully" message, i'm assuming that must be the SP2 installation logs. --> I can open the ESM and create/ delete mailbox stores, modified the RUS, etc. --> Created a new user and assigned a mailbox to this user. Now the problem is when i this user tries to configure, he is repeteadly prompted and is not allowed into his mailbox. OWA also doesn't work. But, when you assign domain admin rights to this user, it works with no issues.     - OWA working internally but not outside firewall. Hello All, I installed OWA 2003 on a Front End 2003 server. Works great inside my network. I setup my firewall to accept request for OWA. I am running HTTP only. I will worry about the certificate and SSL later. I am able to launch OWA, login and get the client. I can see all the folders, icons. I can also see the number of items in my folders. The actual inbox says "Loading" and sits there. The inbox never loads. I can go to my calendar but I cannot see any of my items. I can create an event or appointment and they save fine but I will never see it unless I run Outlook. I can also send messages from within OWA.     - Exchange mailbox not been created I have 2 windows 2003 server one is domain serverADS "DC1" and other is backup domain server(DC2). I have installed Exchange 2003 SP2 in DC2 the instlation went without any problem(i ran forestprep and domain prep on DC1 ). Now there is Active directory computer and user in DC2 which when i add a user with mail box enabled it is not creating a mailbox in the exchange server and the user is not in ADS of DC1.     - RE: Removing an Exchange 2007 Server that is dead If I have a Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 configuration and I wanted to pull out the 2007 server from the 2003 routing group and 2003 console. The 2007 exchange server is no longer physically available yet it still shows in the groups in the exchange 2003 server console, how could I do this, or is it ok to just leave the old 2007 configuration present in the 2003 console and add another 2007 group in the near future? The exchange 2007 server never worked right, it kept getting system service error event id 7024 regarding the info store and terminated with error 0 [0x0], and the application log error ID 4001 which is probably due to the info store not being able to open. Someone suggested delaying service start but it just did not work, any ideas on this error? I plan on probably reinstalling an Exchange 2007 server and adding into the 2003 routing group soon.     - Queues in Exchange 2003 We just installed sbs2003 server and converted Exchange 5.5 to 2003. The installation and conversion went quite well. However, we now have afew problems with our SMTP activities: a) we have about 100 queues with messages from the postmaster that are labelled retry but they just sit there. Even when we delete the message, the queue remains there. How do we delete queues? b) we have no problems getting mail but sending mail is sporatic. It sends mail when it wants. The sending mail problem surfaced when I installed SP1. I since installed SP2 but the problem persists. c) we may be invaded with mail relay but I am not sure. How do I find out?. I disconnected all workstations from the system and the postmaster mail is still going out. d) I get constant 7004 and 7002 messages in the event viewer. What can cause those?     - Product Key I installed Exchange 2007 Standard Edition (32bit - Trial Version) - I downloaded from Microsoft. It works fine but after received Product Key I'd like to register the product.     - Exchange Setup - Child domains Hi We currently have an AD Forest with the root domain being W2k3 AD, and holding the Exchange 2000 server. The child domains are Windows 2K AD, and do not have any exchange servers. All these users connect to the Root domain Exchange server for their email. When I try and run the setup (just to see if any requirements are missing) it states, "Active Directory domain 'DC=northern,DC=advanceuk,DC=local' does not contain at least one domain controller running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later. This is required for the '/PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions' task when updating existing domains that have been previously prepared for Exchange Server." But we don't have any Exchange servers in this domain, nor are we going to install any. The big plan is to remove the child domains. We have not run the domain\forest exchange prep scripts yet.     - OWA not working outside the firewall I had to delete our CA server and reinstall it. I have setup OWA to use the certificate. OWA using SSL works perfect at our office. When we go home it doesn't work outside our firewall. I do have tcp port 443 open on the firewall. Also, it worked fine before I had to delete the certificate. What could be causing OWA to not work?     - Routinf Woes My setup: (I am in the middle of a 5.5-2003 migration) 2 exchange 5.5 servers (MX record points to one of these 5.5 servers) in main office 1 exchange 2003 server in main office 1 exchange 2003 server in branch office, connected by VPN (Cisco PIX) to main office Sending and receiving is working fine on all servers in main office (both 5.5 servers and 1 2003 server). The 2003 server in branch office can send out fine, but will not receive. When I look at the queue of the 2003 server in main office, it shows the server in the branch office with message "The connection was dropped by the remote host." What am I missing?     - Exch 2007 swing migration - need some advice Hi all, I am planning a test installation of exch 2007 which will run on a W2k3 server, also being upgraded. In our live environment we have two DCs running W2k AD, one running Exch 2000 - let's call it Exch2kDC. I have the rough plan below for a swing migration: Build a temporary exch server (call it TempE2K7, for example) Add in as member server into live enviironment Replicate from Exch2kDC across to TempE2K7 After replication has occurred, take TempE2K7 offline Build test network with recovered DC's Transfer all FSMO roles across to DC that will remain unchanged Rebuild Exch2kDC as a x64 W2k3 server - keeping original server name (necessary for other processes) Install Exch2007 onto rebuilt server Exch2kDC Bring in TempE2K7 & replicate across to Exch2kDC Remove TempE2K7 Now my questions are: 1) is there anything wrong with that plan? 2) the original server was W2k running exch2k but my test network will have a fresh rebuild of W2k3. The exch 2k attributes will have been replicated across to the DC that remains unchanged so I will run the inetorgfix as am bringing in a w2k3 DC. Should I remove the original server (Exch2kDC) before bringing in the TempE2K7 server as I am concerned about mixing attributes stored in AD that will have the original server (Exch2kDC) and the new exch2007 on the same box with same name. I also have a Exchange 2003 server and joined the 2007 exchange to the 2003 which works just fine [runing windows 2003 standard r2] even after the install. First domain controller, under active directory sites, the AD config looks ok and replicates as well. This was the first domain controller in the domain. Event log errors: System Event Log: Event ID 7024 Info Store service terminated with specific error 0 [0x0]. Application Log Errors: Event ID 4001 Transient failure error.     - Can't connect to exchange server via POP3 I just set my first Exchange server and it seems to running fine internally. It is a SBS 2003 SP1 box. As I said Exchange is running fine internally on the network and I can also log in via OWA from outside. I have one client that works outside the office and needs to connect with Outlook via POP3. I have the POP3 service enabled and running on the server but it won't connect. When I hit the 'test settings' button in Outlook it finds the incoming server but it fails when trying to log into it.     - Exchange 2003 in different locations with different addresses Exchange question. We have four locations. Three connect back to the main office over a vpn. There is one domain with a domain controller at each place. We now want to do Exchange 2003 for email. Every location has its own email address, like user@placeone.com and user@placetwo.com and things like that. So theres that. We also want to make sure email gets delivered over the Internet incase the vpn fails. I dont think we can setup four Exchange organizations, right?     - Problems with Autodiscover I've been following all the Technet articles associated with Autodiscover but still can't get it working. I have set up the Autodiscovery website, issued the correct SSL cert and everything else I can think of according to best practices. When I can navigate to the AutoD website using IE 7, I get an auth prompt, enter my credentials and can view the contents of Autodiscover.xml.     - Changing the URL defined in SCP Right now, my outlook clients are discovering the server via URL that is defined in SCP. However, I would like to change the URL so it uses a name that corresponds with what we will be using externally too (and will subsequently match any certificates that will get purchased in the future, etc). Where is it that I can configure the URL in SCP? I did an LDIFDE dump and didn't see the name reference anywhere and didn't see anything in the Exchange console or in the registry. Not sure where else to look. Hi Daniel,

I guess you have to exclude the directories used by OWA using the sharepoint
administration web site (by default, urls like /owa /exchange, etc) are
"caught" by WSS.
