I cannot believe the install program will allow you to do this, but I am
sitting here with a server that won`t let me reinstall or remove Exchange, and
Exchange is nowhere near functioning!!
This server was working fine before removing Exchange. After removal, I tried
reinstalling, and started receiving the error message "setup failed while
installing sub-component exchange system management snap-ins with error code
0xc1037988". Then I tried removing again to hopefully start from scratch, and I
get the same error message. I have tried MS KB Q281383 with no success. Domain
prep has been rerun successfully (did this just for testing) and
/disasterrecovery ends with the same error message as above, as you might
expect. No Exchange services are loaded. There is nothing unusual in the
application, system, or directory logs. Exchange version is 2000 on a Windows
2000 SP4 server. It is a single domain controller.
