    - looking for way to push exchange settings to outlook Hi, I am looking for a way to push the exchange settings via group policy or mst file to all user to setup their outlook client to connect to exchange. Ideally I want to create a new profile (preserve existing profile) and use their AD credential along with exchange client settings. Anyone know a way to do this via group policy, mst file etc?     - Odd Problem, user can't open outlook on machine but can through I am new to managing an exchange server, I know the basics but have one that has me scratching my head.... I have a user that apparently for a while, I just found out...hasn't been able to open Outlook on her PC. She has been using Remote Desktop to go into our TS to run it from there. The previous MIS guy just had her do that. When we try and run outlook on her desktop and on the new laptop that I just set up for her (thats how I found this) It says that Outlook won't run. I have tested the install of Office 2003 Pro and Outlook works fine for my account and also for one that I made that was copied from hers.     - Two Exchange Servers - One OWA inbound connection shared? I'm in the process of migrating to a new Exchange 2003 server (using the Ed Crowley method). I've brought up a new server in the site and the two are communicating (at least, all seems to be okay). I've used the mailbox move wizard to move some mailboxes, but found that the people who now reside on the new server can't hit OWA from outside anymore. If we connect to OWA internally, it works fine. If we try to connect to the old server, it just changes the URL to the new server's name. My problem is that while I'm migrating people, I need to make sure that they can access OWA from home. Is it possible (maybe I've missed something in my config?) for them to connect from home through the old server and have it serve up their OWA connection on the new server? I guess I'd assumed that OWA requests would be passed between the servers. In a worst-case situation, I will have to set up a new DNS entry through our ISP that points them through the firewall to the new server's IP addy, but it seemed to me that I shouldn't have to do that - there may be a way to have the old connection serve up their OWA while they're on the new server?     - NNTP-Posting-Host Hello, I have a problem with my newsgroups in my Exchange 2000 Organization. When posting items to my newsgroups, the NNTP-Posting-Host doesn't seem to be in the header. This causes problems synchronizing my newsgroups with other servers. Is this a setting in Microsoft Exchange. We are using Microsoft Outlook 2000 as newsclient.     - Exchange Hosting My Company is doing the same thing. I found a really good tutorial on msexchange.org. Basicly though you have to use ADSI Edit, which is unsupported by M$, and if you use it incorrectly you can screw up your Active Directory. You have to limit permissions to the address lists you create with ADSI Edit. The Tutorial on msexchange.org for Hosted Exchange gives really good intructions on how to do this.     - How to add NTLM authentication to Outlook Anywhere Exchange 2007 server Outlook Anywhere has been working well with Basic authentication. However, some of our mobile user notebooks are configured with proper login domain and userID. IF we can add NTLM authentication, they won't have to provide login autentication again when bring up Outlook (2007) client to access Outlook anywhere remotely, I think. Please let me know how to achieve this. Currently OL Anywhere is setup for basic authentication only in Exchange 2007 server.     - Local recipients enqueued as unreachable destinations Hi all I've a nlb cluster of exchange 2003 frontends and two backends in cluster server. When the internal clients connect to the backends directly, everythings works good. I've enabled secure imap and secure smtp on the frontends to allow external users use the mail. Imaps works flawless but not smtp. When sending to external users, the message is sent correctly. If a message with a local recipient is sent, it is enqueued as a unreachable destination !?!?!?!     - Hub Transport Hi, We're in the process of setting up a new Exch. 2007 server for our College. At first I was considering of using the Edge Transport server because I thought it was required. We are signing up with Message Labs to filter our mail for spam and anti-virus ( incoming and outgoing ). We have also secured the connection only allowing communication to and from Message Labs to our e-mail server. It seems to me that having both the Message Labs filter and the Edge Transport a bit redundant and more cumbersome to manage.     - get-exchangeserver comandlet shows missing exchange servers I am trying to upgrade from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1. It won't install, because it says there are Exchange 2003 servers that are not running Service Pack 2. I use the get-exchangeserver command in the powershell, and it shows the two test servers that we had when initally upgrading from exchange 5.5. Problem is that not only do these servers not have exchange on them, they don't even exist anymore. They were reformatted with XP pro and given to users once we didn't need them in our exchange environment anymore. HOW do I get these servers unlisted so I can move on? The Exchange Enterprise Servers (EES), which is domain local was added with the special access for Exchange Information not form the company domain but from the server.company subdomain. So all users were missing rights for the company EES (i.e.: read and write alias). After going to advanced and changing the Group fom servers.company\EES to company\EES i got the read alias right, but there are compared to the other subdomains and the root domain many rights missing. In the ExchangeSetup.Log it is shown this wrong EES was selected so that I presume that there is an error in the Powershell script for the pl option (tested sp1 and rtm version). Anyone who experienced the same? From what I understand, only ONE Exchange server actually sends the e-mails out to the Internet. The other Exchange servers simply route the e-mails to this server. If this is correct, how do I determine which Exchange server actually sends these e-mails to the Internet? How do I change which server is responsible for this?     - Warning message when uninstalling old Exchange03 Server Hi All, I have an old Exchange03 server that is being decommissioned. We will then be left with our current clustered 03 servers. All of the uninstall pre-requisites are fine and I have moved on to the next stage of uninstall. When it gets to the removal stage of "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" I get the following warning: "All the webs store platform based applications will be inoperable after the uninstall. Select OK to continue or CANCEL to exit setup at this time". I cant find anything on the web with this specific error / warning message. Any ideas? I really need to get cracking with this uninstallation but dont want to hastily press OK! I am pretty sure all functions are now running on the clustered server so it shouldnt be this?     - Exchange 2007 mail configuration Hi, Installed exchange 2007 with mailbox, hub transport , unified messaging and client access roles on one machine itself. There is no edge transport server. I have enabled IMAP and POP3 and created ADS users and Exchange users. I wish to send mails directly from this hub transport server.I am using the default SMTP address policy.     - Outlook Web Access to entire Organization I have an organization with 5 locations. Each location has an Exchange 2003 Server. All e-mail flows into the Exchange server at the main location, which then routes the e-mail to the appropriate server. My question is: I'd like to implement OWA, but never have in multiple Exchange Server organizations. My question is: I'd like to create an A record for mail.company.com and have give EVERY user in the organization the ability to use OWA. I was planning on using the server in the main location. Despite the fact that users' mailboxes are physically stored in 5 different servers, can I use the main server for OWA for ALL users? If no, can you provide some direction? Thanks! The Readiness Checks find an error on the Mailbox Role Prerequisites. This computer requires the update described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 928368 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=92853). Without this update, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service may stop responding. However when I install this update, it says:"Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. There is no need to install this update."     - SMTP Configuration I have 2 Exchange servers and a Spam Application. The main Exchange is configured to use port 2500 instead of 25 since the Spam App is intercepting the mail and then passing the good mail through port 25. My second server is the problem. If I configure the Default Virtual SMTP server to deliver using port 2500 internal mail is delivered from the second server to the main server but internet mail gets stuck in the queue. If I change the delivery port to 25 the mail delivers but mailboxes on the main server do not get mail. Is there a way to setup a filter/rule and have 2 virtual servers?     - Exchange Server 2007 Recieving Error I Have installed Exchange Server 2007 on to a Server 2008 64Bit it sends mail with no issues but wouldnt recieve. i did a diagnostic and on the mail recieve it says these 2 things are stopping the mail coming in. 1.     - Exchange 2007 queue viewer - public folder error I migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. Since I took Exchange 2003 offline I have been receiving public folder error messages in my Exchange 07 queue. It says 'There is currently no route to the mailbox database'. I only have one Exchange server and I am able to access my public folders in Outlook so there does not seem to be any issues with PF. Any ideas on how to get that error to stop?     - Exchange 2007 with SP1 32bit Hi, I have installed a DPM 2007 server on a Windows Server 2008 32bit, and it requeries the exchange 2007 management tools installed on it so that the exchange can be correctly backed up using eseutil. The problem is that I cannot install exchange 2007 without sp1 on an WS2008, so I need a 32bit version of exchange 2007 with SP1, I cannot find it anywhere, is there a way to inject the SP1 of E2k7 32 bit into the E2k7 disc that I have? or does anyone knows where to get the E2k7 with SP1.     - Upgrade Exchange 2007 on Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 We've got a single Exchange 2007 running in our Windows 2003 R2 domain. I'd like to be able to rename the domain and know that I can't do this while Exchange remains on the W2K3 server. Therefore I've got to make a choice...upgrade the server to Windows 2008 and run rename or migrate accounts/mailboxes to a new domain that's already named correctly. I'm leaning toward the first option, but would appreciate input regarding benefits/liabilities and any real-world experiences toward this end. Thanks.     - Uninstall of Exchange 2003 I am in the last phase of decomissioning exchange 2003 from my 2007 Exchange environment. I am trying to remove exchange 2003 from add/remove programs but receive the error "one or more users currently use a mailbox store on the server". I checked in AD and in Exchange 2003's system manager and the only mailboxes that are in 03 are the SystemMailboxes. Any ideas?     - Cannot send from Mailbox to Hub transport server I cannot send mail from the Mailbox server to the combined CAS/Hub transport server. I just set up a test environment on VMware with Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008. Mail is stuck in Outlook Outbox with no errors.     - Exchange Security and Administration: Small/Tiny Site I've been using Exchange for the last seven years to maintain calendars, contacts, etc. on my home LAN. However, I've never used it to handle email, out of a fear that it was not "inherently" secure enough to expose it to the wilds of the internet without more sysadmin experience than I have. Instead, I handle my email with postfix on a linux box, and restrict external access to the pop3 server to secure stunnel connections. On the Windows side, I currently run Exchange 2003 on a Server 2003 platform behind the firewall. I recently ordered the installation of the same environment for the startup company I work at, however, and was pretty impressed by the ability of Exchange 2003 to interact with Outlook over http. This has caused me to want to rethink my "don't expose Exchange" decision. How hard is it to keep Exchange secure, in practice? I am diligent about applying patches and security fixes to all my Windows software, and I don't mind investing time hardening systems. But I don't want to have to be in the trenches administering security for Exchange on a weekly basis. Are there security risks related to Exchange's http connector? Advice, perspective and pointers to resources would be appreciated. On a more technical note, is setting up Exchange to use the http connector difficult? Does it require that all http traffic be handled by the Windows Server Exchange is running on?     - SSL an SMTP on Exchange 2003 I have an Exchange 2003 Server and want to have the ability to send out email on port 465 through an SSL connection. I have created another SMTP Virtual Server and changed the port to 465. I have a SSL certificate that I have setup under the Access Tab and secure communications. The certificate is working, I have Require security channel selected with 128-bit encryption. Under Authentication I have unchecked Anonymous access and have Basic authentication with requires TLS and Integrated Windows Authentication checked. When I try to send out a message using SSL it tell me that the server does not support the connection encryption type, but if I use TLS it works without an issue.     - External Exchange 2003 Server access without using POP3 I have an Exchange 2003 Server and was wondering if I could access the server at an external location without setting up or connecting through a VPN or setting up POP3 access. The results that I am looking for is that I can click on my Outlook setup and configure the Exchange option like I do in the office but use my external IP Address or my published domain name mail.mydomain.com. I know that Entourage for the Mac will use the Outlook Web Access info to connect to the server, this would also be fine by me but isn't an option in Outlook 2007 for the PC. I have full access to the firewall settings and also wanted to make sure that it is secure. I do have OWA configured with a SSL connection and certificate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Getting POP3 Access to Exchange 2003 I have Exchange Server 2003 and needed to have the ability to access it for an external location. What I want to achieve is to have the users in the office stay connected through the Exchange Server settings in Outlook. For a small number of users that are out of the office (5 - 10 users) I want to have the ability to access and download their mail using POP3 settings. I know that I would have to open port 110 and direct that to the server. The settings that I am wondering about are within the Exchange manager, if there is a simple link to some instructions, I welcome that. The second part of the question is that I want to just add a second domain name to the same server, and have it accept mail for this domain name, but add the new domain in the user accounts manually, meaning I don't want it to be a default setting when I create a new user account. In the past we had a Exchange but was chaged by Lotus Notes (corporate decision) Now I want install Exchange 2007 but when I try to prepare the domain I receive a message about that exchange is in a mixed mode but i don't have any exchange now in my company!     - Exchange 2003 installation issue: Exchange Tasks not on users in AD All, I am installing Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 AD network. It is a very simple network: 1 DC, 2 other member servers. The mail server is running windows 2003 as a member server (not DC). I installed and everything seemed to go fine. I followed the checklist...ran forestprep and domainprep. Installed Exchange, and it is there, services loaded and apparently ready to go. When I go into my active directory, however, there is not 'Exchange Tasks' selection on the users in my admin tool. I have no idea why not...I have not seem this before and have performed quite a few installations over the years of 2003 and 2000. Does anyone know if there is a way to make my user profiles have the Exchange Tasks menu option? If not...I cannot add e-mail address or even make them mail enabled. Also...I considered uninstalling Exchange 2003 and re-installing, just to make sure everything happens as it should. I cannot uninstall because it tells me that there are mail-enabled users connected, and that I either have to move them or un-mail-enable them. When I look at the IS, there are three mailboxes, and none of them are my users, they are the Exchange system accounts that I would expect to be there. So...if the option is uninstall and reinstall...does anyone know how to uninstall exchange when it is telling me that there are users that are mail enabled that I cannot get to to move or un-enable?     - Connectivity to Exchange Server I have a new installation of SBS 2003. Everything seemed to install normally but I have several issues. 1. I have had to post to this group from another computer because I can't get to the newsgroups from the server's IE. Microsoft requires Java to sign in, Java requires an ActiveX control to download and IE won't allow it. Can't find any way to allow it. 2. I cannot ping my server or connect to exchange with Outlook. I can log in to Exchange via a web browser using the server's IP or DNS name from inside or outside the LAN. I would have thought that the ability to connect to Exchange with Outlook would have come right out of the box with little or no configuration changes needed on a new SBS installation.
