winsock control tries to load vfp 9 installer...please help

Hello and thanks in advance for the help.

I have a project that uses the mswinsock control. A new and frustrating
behavior has started occurring.

After loading VFP when I go to modify the form with the winsock control on
it, it begins trying to load the vfp 9 installer. I can cancel out of it and
then the app will work fine (if you don't count the bugs I have yet to fix).

Why is the winsock control being present making the ide try to load the vfp
9 installer?

I have both VFP 7 and 9 on this machine. The project is being developed in 7
but I have made a test form and tried to load it in 9 and the problem
happens there as well.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Have you moved mswinsck.ocx from its oringinal installation
folder (winsys) ?

I tried both.

There is a copy of mswinsck in the directory that I'm working in. I went
into the activeX controls manager and made sure that it was pointing to the
one in \windows\system32. It didn't seem to help with the problem.

VFP is not giving me any indication of what it is looking for.

Tomorrow I'll drag out my VFP 9 disk and let it get what it thinks it need.

Actually, the whole project has been on a network volume for many months.
The thing that has changed is the computer that I'm developing from.

Jeff- you'll prolly have to dig around in the registry and clear and/or fix
some entries.
IME when this happens, It's Time to clean the registry a bit.

Yes, that worked quite well, thank you.

Is there an NG out there somewhere for people to complain about MS. The
number of problems that I've had lately that are due to their bungling is
astonunding. I admit that in some of them, I should have been a better
diagnostician but still, they should have given me better information.
