    - VFP 9: Command Window Display I have run into an bothersome difference in VFP 9. I am debugging an program and have a browse in the middle to look at a generated cursor. The command window now displays over the browse. This knocks out using a full-screen browse which I occasionally need. If I click on the command window to move it, I can, but at the cost of the browse disappearing. Is there a setting that I am missing?     - Printing All, I am trying to get FP 9 to print using a print preview component that consists of an ocx wrapper for a dll. The dll will not register as an activex in FP, even though it is registerable with regsvr32. I can get all the way through defining the page layout, and send copy to the printer. At that point nothing appears to happen. No job in the printer object in the control panel, no print preview. I see this in "What's New if FP 8" (haven't got around to 9 yet): "You still can't print reports from within a dll-based vfp com object."     - FPW 2.6 + Windows 2003 Server + DHCP problems I think we've solved it, but looking for input from others that may have experienced this problem. We have 12 XP Pro clients running our FPW 2.6 application. We recently decommissioned the trusty old Netware 3.11 server and put the DBFs on a Windows 2003 Enterprise server shared folder. Each client has a mapped network drive to the shared folder. We were experiencing problems with the application getting sporadic "File read errors". We found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684 and ran "net config server /autodisconnect:-1" on the server. The file read errors continued. We finally traced the disconnects to the time of client DHCP lease renewal.     - VFP GRID PROBLEM hi all, i am working on client/server application, front hand VFP and backened SQL Server. I am facing the problem in grid. It acts very weird. If the record source of the Grid is SQL Table, sometimes it shows only one record and sometimes blank. In some places, just calling the child form and close it instantly, grid of parent form shows the records properly. It seems to like some refreshing problem.     - Report hangs in FPW 2.6 I am still using FPW2.6 for an application on a Windows2003 Server, with workstations that run Win2000 or XP. Until last week, every report printed fine, but now there is a report that always hangs (hangs both on preview and on printer). The report preview window opens up, but it remains blank for ever, until I kill the ntvdm.exe in the Task Manager. The config.fpw file contains MEMLIMIT=80,16384,32768 since ever. I get the same error on different workstations. I have tried with other MEMLIMIT configurations, but every time it still hangs. Any further suggestions? Tag: VFP 9: window name Tag: 227158

    - SYS(1104) returns a string value. As per Fox documentation, Sys(1104) should return numeric (0 if successful) data type. I am consistently getting a string value of '956' from within my application. I am using VFP8. Making this call in FoxPro, without starting my application, correctly returns 0.     - case statement in remote view? Hi, I would like to create a remote view that includes a field that is populated based on a range of another field in VFP 9. For example, I have a view that returns contact last name, first name. For example: CREATE VIEW contacts CONNECTION contactdb SHARE AS ; SELECT RTRIM(contact.last_name) + ', ' + ISNULL(RTRIM(contact.first_name), ' ') as contact_name ; FROM contact ; ORDER BY contact.last_name I would now like to add another field, an integer, the value of which is determind by the first letter of the last name. The CASE statement appears to be the best choice to me but I'm not sure how to implement it in a view like this. I'm thinking last names starting with A - E = 1, F - J = 2, K - O = 3 and so on. DO CASE CASE BETWEEN(LEFT(contact.last_name, 1) , 'A', 'E') contact.sort = 1 . . . ENDCASE Of course adding the column sort as an integer. Any suggestions?     - Data Type Mismatch??? Hi everyone. Can someone please take a look at this code? It's very simple. What I am trying to do here is insert a default date of "12/31/xx" into all inv_date column fields, xx representing the last two digits of the year that the user previously entered. I need to do this so that the original application still accepts the proper date format mm/dd/yy. Here is my code: y = Substr(Transform(lcinput),3,2) replace ALL inv_date WITH ("12/31" + (y)) If I type this code into the Command Window and type ?"12/31/" + y, I get the 12/31/02, if the user entered 2002. I know that an @ in front of a parameter makes a variable passed by reference to a function. The compiler gives the same error with the @ in front or without.     - VFP 9: Alternative to sys(1037) I have been using a keyboard-sys(1037) sequence to change printer orientation. This is a kludge, of course, and occasionally, when I was using the app, it would hang up wait on the printer form. (I never did identify exactly when, but it was when I had switched focus to another program, and only occasionally.) Surely, there must be a better way, one that does not count on the operator being "friendly". I have looked for code to do this. I found two on Universal Thread, but the documentation is rather sparse. Except for my recent excursion into the kernel API, I have not used external routines before in VFP.     - Report printer driver error with new listener / preview I have just tried creating my first VFP report listener. All I want to do with it is be able to detect whether a user printed from a preview. I subclassed the ReportListener class, but the only change I made to it was to capture lPrint in OnPreviewClose and save it to a property so I could look at it later. I am using the default Preview Container that ships with VFP, with no changes except cosmetic ones (caption, height, etc). This works correctly in that it does allow me to detect whether the print button was hit in the preview. However, I'm having two problems. The first one is that the preview takes quite a long time to load, probably twice as long as if I have SET REPORTBEHAVIOR 80 and scrap the listener. The second problem is that when the user presses the print button, they get an error - 1958 Error loading printer driver. I don't specify print drivers in my reports, they generally just go to the user's default printer. Do I have to set a printer driver somewhere for the listener to work correctly?     - Weird year() function results Hi everyone. I am using the year() function to retrieve the four digit year from two different fields from two different tables. The dates are formatted as follows: mm/dd/yy. I set the century on and although I do get the proper results, for some reason, some of my mm/dd/00 dates are returning 2000 and others are returning 1900.     - JPEGS stored in a general field displaying <filename>.BMP Hi, In our application we store a photo against each record in a general field. These are only stored temporarily, and are created by inserting the photo from a JPG in a common directory. For some reason, some of these pictures are getting resized and pixelated and the general field then shows the resized image, along with <filename>.BMP (none of the files are BMPs).     - Temporary table missing ALIAS Temporary table is created in the local directory. This table is a part of a database in the same local directory. lcLocalTable = SYS(2015)+".tmp" lcFullLocalTable = SYS(2023)+"\"+lcLocalTable This table is then opened using the command USE (lcFullLocalTable) in 0 alias (lcLocalTable) exclusive SELECT (lcLocalTable) This table is used and then deleted (and removed from the database) lower down in the same function that created this table. All the command lines in the function execute only once (i.e. no WHILE, FOR .. etc loops) When we started using VFP8, we found that intermittently the "SELECT (lcLocalTable)" command line failed. I have determined that 1. DBF() correctly returns the value of lcFullLocalTable 2. USED(lcLocalTable) incorrectly shows .F. 3. While viewing the datasession window, the alias does not show. However, I can click on the blank space (where the name should have been) and click the browse button to view the contents of this table. The data is correct. 4. Error does not occur if debug window is open. 5. I am using Symantec anti virus. 6. The error is greatly reduced if I slow down the system by using SLEEP (win API) or a wait command with timeout 7. I have already taken care of weeding out duplicate names in SYS(2015) 8. My network people tell me that I have admin rights to the temporary directory. Anyone faced this before?     - BindEvent - User Activity Hey guys, is there anyway that I can bind to an event that will tell me when the user is active? (i.e. they are moving the mouse or doing something in Windows or another app.) I have looked at the Windows Message Notifications, but all of those seem to be related to your app. & not any other app. For example if I use the WM_MOUSEMOVE with BindEvent, I only get notification when they move the mouse inside of my app. But what I want to do is just have an icon in the sys tray, so they wont really be in my app at all. Basically like what MSN Messenger does...if you aren't doing anything on your computer for xx minutes, it will set your status as "Away". Any ideas??     - Need help with an SQL statement Hi everyone. I need a little bit of help with an SQL statement. I have a table called lcpay. This table has a column called pay_date. The values for this column are 4 digit years (i.e. 1999, 2000, etc.). I need to have an inputbox that allows a user to select a year. I then need an SQL statement to only pull the records for that particular year and insert them into another table. Here is what I have so far: lcinput=INPUTBOX("Please select a year") SELECT * from (lcpay); where VAL(payconvert.pay_date)=VAL(lcinput); into table (lcselectpay); ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My SQL statement above is giving me this error: "Function argument value, type, or count is invalid" Can someone please help me out. So far I've dealt with the following: AutomationSecurity on high (3) to disable macros DisplayAlerts to .f. Prevents modal dialogs (does excel have non-modal dialogs?) AskToUpdateLinks = .f.     - Screen flicker Hi, I have a form with a lot of containers on it. The containers are used as buttons, so they have an (button) image and a label as childs. The picture source is a bmp/gif excluded from the project. They are loaded at runtime and can be changed by the user. The label is on top of the image. The user can switch to an other mode to use shapes instead of images.     - newobject I am writing a standalone foxpro 9 exe program. The forms are contained in a global vcx file. When creating an instance of a form with the newobject command, the vcx file must be accessible to the runtime exe. This works fine on my development computer. If I install the exe with dependencies including the vcx file on a client computer, and reference the correct location of the vcx file when instantiating a form, I get an error message stating the class was not created.     - multiple detail bands in a report. Hi all, I have a question regarding the multiple detail bands in VFP 9.0. The reason I have this question is because I am trying to get it to work in my application and couldn't get anywhere. Here is the scenario: I have a table called Traffic as the initially selected table for my report. There is a related table called TrafficPhotos which is the many table to the Traffic table in the one-to-many relationship. The Traffic table contains details about a traffic accident and the TrafficPhotos table contains path to photos of the accident, it could be one photo or 20 photos. In my report I created a detail band for the TrafficPhotos, and it works great if I use any field in the table, however when I put a picture/OLE bound control on the TrafficPhotos detail band and set the ControlSource Type to "Expression or Variable" and in the Control Source I target the field TrafficPhotos.PhotoPath, I keep getting an error. How would you solve this problem? all I need is to show, in a report, all the photos for an accident but keep in mind the photos themselves are not part of the table, I simply have a path pointing to where the photos are.     - General Field and container refuse click event VFP 7.0 XPSP2 I have put a general field in a container in a pageframe on a form. and a listbox outside the pageframe. the general field contains picture., what should happend is when clicking on any item in the listbox, the data should changed in the pageframe included the picture which i have no problem with. i have add a click event on the container since the gen field doesnot have click event handler, and when i click on the container a dialoge box ask where is the file to put in gen field with GETFILE() first problem : when i run the form, and click on the container the dialoge of GETFILE() appear coorectly. but once i clicked on any item in the listbox(data will updated in the form with new values) before i click on the container it stop responding to click event. i have tried click, dblclick,mousedown with same result. second problem when someone rightclick on the container that contains gen firld, a context menu "EDIT" appear, and if there is picture in the gen field and user press on edit it will open the picture with windows default image handler. what i want is to prevent the "EDIT" from appearing if user rightclick on the container with gen firld. thx for ur help in advance Samir Ibrahim Tag: VFP 9: window name Tag: 226921

    - Combobox error outside of the debugger I have a VFP 7 application and on one form there is a combobox that has the facility to have new entries added to its contents. The entry is added from another form and when this form returns the init method of the combo box is called to repopulate it.     - C5 Nightmare Hi everyone, After I checked a form into source safe. I am getting C5 errors that did not show before I checked the form in. I tested the form thoroughly and another tester also tested with no C5 errors. Could source safe have corrupted the form? I have checked it out, unchecked it out and I am still getting the C5 error.
