    - Remote View Indexes Is there a way to create persistant indexes on a remote view. I have a sample table that I upsized to MS SQL server and am trying to go through the existing code that I have switched to access a remote view of the MS SQL data. A lot of the code uses the set and seek statement like the following: SET ORDER TO TAG InvID SEEK Invoice.InvID Is there any way that a remote view will work with that line of code.     - Word automation extremely slow sometimes We have implemented a word printing facility in our program. It basically consists of a word template (with tokens) that the user can edit themselves. Then if they want to print an invoice for example they can select a template and an invoice rolls out the printer. We open the document in foxpro (version 7) and then search for the tokens that need to be replaced with the actual values. This all works well but for some reason we now have a problem on some computers. We have a few customers which report that on some computers the process of making the document takes a few minutes instead of the few seconds it takes on other computers. We have tried to simulate the problem here on our test machines but at first we couldn't reproduce the problem. Untill one of us got a new pc. At first it was as fast as normal (few seconds), then after some windows updates and installation of other programs it suddenly took minutes on that machine. We also had reports of customers who installed word 2003 and where the problem was gone. We tried everything from reinstalling word till whatever but we can't figure out why it takes seconds on 1 pc and minutes on the other. Does anyone have ideas or has had similar problems ?     - How to make accumulated data correct all the time? How to make accumulated data (e.g., total amount, balance) correct all the time? Many years ago, I did an order system and found the total amount was not right sometimes. The order system is pretty complicated and itâ??s not easy to find where it is wrong. I know I can add transaction log for this field. But I donâ??t think thatâ??s the best way. The original code was something like TotalAmount= TotalAmount-OldItemAmount+NewItemAmount. I changed it to Select Sum(NewItemAmount) as TotalAmount. That means recalculate it every time. And then the total value has never been wrong. The biggest problem for this method is performance. We may not able to recalculate everything, say stock on hand. The biggest problem is balance for every account in general ledger. Do you have any ideas to make them correct all the time? TIA.     - Grid columns are loosing names during runtime My code refers to the columns by name. The name was defined during design time. I have asked about this before, but the suggestions did not work out. I am using VFP 8 SP 1 Some of my customers are getting errors when they open screens with grids on them. The code might say: this.Grid1.col_code.setfocus() The code crashes because when the grid was created it named the column "Column1" All of the names of the columns are lost. Someone told me this is because I am loosing the recordsource on the grid, after it has been assigned to the table. I was instructed to set the recordsource = "" before I rebuild the cursor it was associated with. This did not fix the problem. I am getting several customers with this problem. Does anyone have any suggestion that might fix this issue? Also, does anyone know if this is a known issue of Microsoft and if its fixed in VFP9?     - Page headers not repeating?? I'm sure it's something stupid... but at this point I don't know what it is. I have a report that now that there is a LOT of data, the report itself takes 4 pages. There are individual groupings on the report as well, and it works fairly well to just have the individual groups print on separate pages. But, the "text" or "fixed" portion of the header is there for each page, but none of the data that is pulled in for the header info. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!     - vfp8 combobox misbehaving We have a combobox class which has rowsourcetype of 5-array, rowsource of this.iatableentries and style dropdownlist. Bound column is 2 because the array (created in the init) has 2 columns, the first being the id and the second being the associated text. This class works perfectly on all our standard forms where the controlsource is set to a table's fieldname. On a form where the controlsource is set to a form property, no initial value is displayed even though the form property has the correct value in it when you look at it in debug. The listindex property is 0 for some reason. We've tried calling the combobox refresh and requery to no avail.     - MimarSinan InstallAWARE - Read before you buy! Dear Group My personal review of MimarSinan InstallAWARE Studio 2005 SE as a courtesy for everyone considering evaluating or buying this product. There are many reviews out there praising the products features so I thought I may add my own review, information collected while creating a project in a live environment. I've to say, at first glance this product has a lot to offer and seems to be a better choice than InstallShield Professional which I evaluated at the same time. InstallAWARE's pricing is also very competitive. On overall, this is a product with some quirks. One will get used to them quickly. I appreciate that no produt is perfect and apprecite when a software vendor takes a greater emphasis on robustness rather than the UI and I hope that this product becomes more UI compliant as a user would expect over the years to come. It's most powerful feature are with no doubt the script editor as well as the flexibility in designing dialogs. However, I've reservations and serious concerns about the level of support being available and having received and if I had this known before I certainly would not recommend this product despite its features and price unless there's reassurance by MimarSinan that they will improve in this matter. The company seems to consist of only its founder, Sinan Karaca. At least that is my impression as all support emails I receive come from his email address. This raises concerns what the situation will be if that only person becomes ill. Another disappointing experience was the quality of support received. As I mentioned, as a developer I appreciate that no software is perfect as long as this is backed up by keen and pro-active support striving to resolve any issues. >From my emails to support I didn't get the impression that the company is actually too interested and an 'error by trial' policy seems to be in place. I could tolerate this for complex problems and sure would try this myself before contacting support but if it was in fact the company founder who provided me with this level of support regarding issues that seem to be obviously a malfunction in their application then I start wondering how much they really appreciate their customers apart from just paying for the product. Before you contact support one might however consult the InstallAWARE Help or Support Forum. Help provides basic information to most common questions but I found that many object properties which I came across on a regular basis are not listed. One of the biggest drawbacks after support in my opinion. Consulting the support forum did not yield more answers to my questions apart from not very detailed replies or the information that this has never been reported before and therefore must not be the products fault. In general, most issues seem to be the customers problem and any of my suggestions that it migt indeed a problem with the product and any offered assistance in investigating this issue further were turned down by InstallAWARE with the response that I can either pay for professional consultancy or that I can find the answer in going through their sample applications. May I point out that I never expected them to do my project for me and as having worked in support myself very well know what falls in the category consultancy/training or support. Not satisfiying but tolerable if the sample I'm directed to actually had addressed my problem. However, in one instance for a Button.click event a Checkbox.Value sample was suggested. Summed up, InstallAWARE support email responses might be quick, on average instant to 8hrs but the quality of support, the help and online forum has to be questioned. Just as final point to add, one might stick to email requests as any call to the company I made was answered by an answering machine and the one request for a callback was never returned. Despite InstallAWARE providing the option of phone support on their website. I might also add, that I tried both numbers, the one in San Francisco, California and the one in Turkey which can be found on the MirmarSinan website during the countries respective business hours. I hope that this is informative to anyone considerating or using InstallAWARE. I certainly will keep you updated should I have more information in the future and let you know of any improvements I notice. Please note that my case might be just an exception and I invite everyone to try for themselves.     - trouble with form fired from menu We've got an old 2.6 system that we run in VFP5. The screens are maintained from a controls standpoint in 2.6. .SPR's are generated in 2.6 and then compiled and and run in VFP5. Anyway, a foundation read is being utilized. A menu system exists and everything functions quite well. I've created some new functionality in a newly created form. I have added a DO FORM command for the menu item. The form has it's WindowType property set to Modal. The problem is that I cannot access any controls on the form. I can close the form using the "X" and the QueryUnload method is executed. I can bring up Adobe's Acrobat and a particular file using the RUN command, but what I'd like to do is bring up that file and tell Acrobat to add pages from three or four other documents.     - BINDEVENTS on grid header causing problem VFP8 SP1, XP Pro SP1 I have a grid for which, at runtime, I use BINDEVENT to bind the MouseUp method of the headers to a Form method that creates an index for that column if necessary, then sets the order of the table so that it is sorted by the clicked column. This all works great, but when the user drags a column to a new location, the BINDEVENT also fires. Ideally, I would like to distinguish between the dragging of a column and the clicking of the header. That way, the user could move the column and the table order would not change to the column moved - only a non-dragging click on the header would sort by that column.     - Foxpro vfp9 doesn't display @ say's correctly. I am updating a VFP6 custom program to VFP9 that merges data with an old SBT Vision Point accounting program. I want to upgrade the custom program but leave Vision Point alone. Although the Vision Point runs fine under vfp6, it contains a lot of @..SAYs and @... GETs for prompts and buttons., ( because of it's DOS legacy.) The problem is when my VFP9 application runs the Vision Point and displays these @ says and @ gets, the screen display disappears. In other words, the prompts and buttons become invisible. They will sometimes reappear when the user waves the mouse over them. How can I get @says to be compatilble with VFP9? Is there a SET switch?     - Editing memo field from grid VFP 9 I have a top level form with a grid populated by a local view that contains a memo field. In the startup I set screen visible to False. When I double click the memo field I'm not able to see the contents. If I set screen visible to True I can see it. Is there a way to have the memo field open in an edit window on the form itself?     - Weird file in use problem Hi, We have a VFP8 SP1 app which is running sitting on a network share, 22 Windows XP users each access this application from this network share. This application has been running fine for the past 2 years and then all of a sudden (past 2 months randomly) users have started complaining they can't get access into some forms. They get 'File in use' error and it is always the one 'Members' table which gives the error. We have some debug information which writes out to a log what users have that "members" table open at the time the user gets the error. Now my understanding is that this error happens when the file is exclusively locked, correct? Our logging information shows that the Members table is open on multiple other workstations while this person is getting this error. So how can more than one person have it open and are not getting the "file in use" error. Where as this person is unable to open it. It is not always the same person that has the problem, so it is not machine related as far as we can tell. These forms open up other network tables too, and they never cause problem, so I don't believe it is network related. The server is not showing any errors for connectivity problems either. So random machines, random users, but always the same table. Any ideas what could be going on, its like the file can only be opened by 5 people and the 6th person who tries to open it is getting denied. Is there anything which could cause this behaviour?     - Foxpro Database Upsizing We are considering migrating some FoxPro database tables to a different database engine such as MS SQL or PostgreSQL. What would be the advantages of going to MS SQL as apposed to PostgreSQL for instance.     - FoxPro 2.6 on Windows XP Hi. Got a client getting new XP machines. Still wants to run FoxPro 2.6 for DOS and FoxPro 2.6 for Windows. Ran into the following issues: 1) Created a command prompt desktop shortcut icon. Very little available memory in FoxPro for DOS. Don't see any memory option in the shortcut properties. 2) Created a batch file desktop shortcut icon. Plenty of memory in FoxPro for DOS, but comes up in 43 line mode when set to full screen (changing the shortcut property font size does nothing). 3) FoxPro 2.6 for Windows. Sending output directly to printer lpt1 (???) causes general protection fault. Sending output to normal spooler (?) goes to local printer, regardless of lpt?. Is there any way to force PRTINFO(1) = 1 for my report then back to 0? Couple of months ago I was given a solution of using =SYS(1037) and KEYBOARD "{tab}{tab}{tab}{tab}a{enter}" CLEAR to switch to landscape. Once I figured out I needed to first SET PRINT NAME to the desired printer first, works pretty good. But I've seen situations where KEYBOARD "{tab}{tab}{tab}{tab}o{enter}" CLEAR didn't return the user to portrait, so it's not foolproof.
