I have used the code found at http://fox.wikis.com to get started. In order to make a robust program, I need to have someone point me to some place where I can get documentation for other Faxserver commands which should exist. Things like why did a fax attempt fail (busy signal, no answer, no fax on receiver side, etc.) Also, how to remove a job from the queue if I need to do so.     - Appearance of labels change unexpectedly I have a continuing problem where the appearance of labels placed on a form change whenever I click on other controls. I simply place labels next to controls (via my own class library). By default they appear in bold, Arial, 8. As I begin to use the other controls on the form - listboxes, combos etc. the labels 'darken' bit by bit to the stage where they are almost illegible. I really can't understand why - there's no code in the background doing something it shouldn't. I wondered if it was a problem with the font (it happens on different PC's) - but Arial being so 'common' I can't think why. I'm using VFP9 Any help would be much appreciated......     - C/VB dll for "browsing" large datasets? I am facing a problem that has become a major issue of late with my users. They are frequently trying to "browse" tables and views that are larger than 2GB. This is causing the application to spew and then I get complained to. I am now considering (and looking for comments from the best user community for the best application ever) creating a C++ or VB "external" program that will use alternate methods to retrieve and display the data. If anyone has encountered this problem and come up with a better solution or has any thoughts on a workable solution, please let me know as I am at a loss right now. I found I had to trim a system exception message string down to a length of 250, otherwise I was getting an OLEDB exception of "Command contains unrecognized phrase/keyword." It seems that it should be relatively easy to add code to print to the MS XP FAX driver from inside of a WORD document. If I set the default print driver to the XP FAX driver before opening the Word document then a print command should cause it to try to send a fax. The problem I see is how do I tell the FAX driver the phone number and other data to use while controlling the Word Document with automation? Also, how is status handled with the Fax driver?     - Fire event after form is displayed? Hi, I'm running VFP 9.0 sp1 and I want to fire an event after the main form of the application is displayed. I want a messagebox to appear when the application starts that prompts the user to say yes or no. I tried putting it into the Init() event of the form but the messagebox pops up before the form is displayed. I've thought about putting it into the Activate() event but then it fires every time I select the form also, I only want it to fire when the program launches. Any suggestions?     - Remote View Boolean Fields I am currently using VFP 7.0, I can not seem to get a remote view field to convert to foxpro logical. I get an error saying "Type conversion required by DataType field is invalid". Why won't foxpro convert an SQL boolean type to its logical type. It wants to convert it to a character field length of one, which will not work in our case because we have existing code that relys on this field being a "logical" data type.     - weird compile behaviour and memberclass Hi, Here's a frustrating problem we're experiencing ever since using the grid memberclass to point to a custom column class; I am hoping someone has encountered and fixed this! We're using VFP 9 (no sp). Intermittently, *only* when running our exe from within a VFP development session, forms/classes which contain our grid class using the memberclass feature take a long time to open (eg. a form should take no time to open but instead takes 2 minutes!). I have tracked the slowness to any code which causes VFP to add columns to the grid : this.recordsource = something, this.columncount = x etc. It appears that the slowness only occurs after building the project and only when a change has been made to a class (and maybe also a form) that contains our grid class. The only remedy is to exit VFP and run it again, the problem disappears after the restart. It is as though VFP is having trouble finding the prg/fxp which contains the column class definition, even though the prg is included in the project and is one of the procedure files (set procedure to ...).     - Rlock() & multiple instances of app I'm revisiting my thread of last week with the same results: I have a master table of idnos that my app must process. The app looks for a record that has a processed flag set to false and rlocks() the record, if it fails to get the rlock(), it moves on to another record and repeats this procedure until it finds a rec it can rlock(). The purpose of this activity is to prevent a given idno from be processed multiple times. Unfortunately, when I run multiple instances of the app on a *single* work station, the rlock is ignored and all instances find and process the same idno. I've verified that multilocks in on, and that I'm not moving the record pointer. Is it possible that the rlock() is owned by the workstation rather than the application instances that are running on the workstation (ie once one instance has an rlock(), all instances automatically share it)?     - Into Table or Into Cursor Is one "really" faster than the other? I got into the habit of always using ...INTO TABLE TableName... instead of ...INTO CURSOR CursorName... for all SQL queries because I had problems with indexing, record numbers, etc. and reliability in the older versions. I've done no real testing, but one seems to work as fast as the other in VFP9, even with large query results. Is this because cpu speed, hard drive speed, or does Foxpro really buffer the result anyway and write it to the hard drive when it gets the chance?     - Alter Table question Does ALTER TABLE work with cursors as well as tables? The following two lines: Select cFamilyname from People into cursor Trythis Readwrite Alter table Trythis add column Anything C(20) fails with 'Invalid operation for this cursor'. However if I try it with a different table, creating a different cursor with different fieldnames it consistently works. I have checked both tables, rebuilt them from scratch etc to try to see if there is anything different between them, apart from names. The foxpro help doesn't mention cursors, but Hackers Guide 7 states that it will work with cursors, allbeit the wording says "ALTER TABLE works not only on tables, but also on cursors built with CREATE CURSOR" so I am wondering whether it can or can't be relied on to work with cursors created via SELECT or whether I am doing something wrong.     - VFP 8.0 losing memory variables I have a very large application that seems to be losing a public object variable at run-time. I create define a public variable "pScreen", initialize the variable with a blank string and then issue a command such to create a form linking the variable to the screen. Such as: PUBLIC pScreen pScreen = "" DO FORM SomeScreen NAME pScreen LINKED NOSHOW ...... Somewhere in the code the variable is undefined (ie. TYPE("pScreen")= "U"). I know this because when a code tries to reference the pScreen variable, an exception is thrown. To debug, I set a breakpoint immediately after the "DO FORM" and put TYPE("pScreen") into the watch window. I set a breakpoint on the watch for when TYPE("pScreen") changes. Without any other program code changes, the application runs fine and the variable never becomes undefined (until I want it to be undefined)!!! I follow the exact same keystrokes/mouse clicks when running in debug mode with the watch as without.     - Escape, read events & loops This is an old story: I have a form that initiates a lengthy batch processing loop. The command buttons on the form are unclickable while the loop is running so I set escape on, test for inkey() and exit if the user presses escape.... In fact, I have a table (magazines.dbf) that consists of 900.000 records, each representing sales figures of a magazine. There are 800 different magazines in the table. Each record has a unique (numeric key - magnumber) that serves as a proxy for the name of a magazine (numbers start from 100 through 900). What I want to do, is to add records from a given magazine to another table (report.dbf), and run a program (retail.prg) and repeat this until the final number of 900 is reached.     - timing of updating data from a control When changing data via a control bound to a data source, there is some delay until the change actually registers. This is a particular problem with a check box in a grid, where I am trying to count the number of .T. values in that field. I usually have interactivechange trigger a timer which waits a couple tens of a second, then performs the count routine. However, this is not reliable. For instance, if I change the value of myfield clicking a checkbox bound to mytable.myfield, then issue SELECT COUNT(*) FROM mytable WHERE myfield the count is invariably off by one until after some period of time has passed, which may be as long as a second or so.
