There was no indication that there was an evaluation period - only that the
software was to be used for eval and testing.

I wonder if this is a reaction to the growth of Linux in the server market?

Is it limited in any other way? For example, any limit on number of tables,
rows, columns, whatever?

Hi Anthony,

No limits to sizes that I know of, however, the EULA limits its use to
development and testing only.

Anyone see WHERE to get it at this price??? I go to shop.microsoft.com
(http://shop.microsoft.com/Referral/Productinfo.asp?siteID=10145) and it
still lists the Developer Edition at $499. Checked a few of the retailers
and they're still listing in th $400+ category, too.

I cannot figure out how to get sql server developer
edition for $49 either.

I see the following blurb

"For more information on how SQL Server 2000 Developer
Edition is available as part of an MSDN Universal
subscription, please visit the MSDN Subscription Overview
page."

but I do not see how I can get it without a MSDN
subscription.

The new price went into effect on August 1st - I'm sure you can get it
direct from MS for that price, even if it isn't showing up where it should.

Hello John,

We expect to see the price drop become effective on Wednesday August 6th in
the retail channels. For Open and Select customers the price drop will
become effective when they next refresh their prices which happens on a
monthly basis. I would expect that all channels should see the price drop by
the end of August.

We are currentlyfollowing up with the shop.microsoft.com folks to get their
Web page http://shop.microsoft.com/Referral/Productinfo.asp?siteID=10145

updated.

Should you have any other concerns, just feel free to write us back.

Sincerely,

Tony

Comment: The site indicates pricing of $49 for the Developer Edition of SQL
Server 2000. However, I can't seem to find anywhere on-line to order it.
shop.microscoft.com still lists $499 and other e-tailers referenced indicate
similar pricing ($400+).

Is this available on-line?

Thank you!
