This is a Visual FoxPro bug about FoxPro Version (pick one): 8.0 SP1 Reproduces (pick one): always Hardware and Software Details: Dell opteron 2.6 GHz Celeron Windows 2000 Happens on other machines as well. Other Development Environments? yes If yes which? Visual Studio .net 2003 Steps to Reproduce: 1) First create a database, and put a table in it, put some records in it. CREATE DATABASE ZOOT CREATE TABLE ZOOT (Z1 C(10), Z2 C(10), CHANGE T ) INSERT INTO ZOOT (Z1) VALUES ('ZOOT') 2) Set record validation Rule - we want this procedure in the DBC to execute when a record is changed: setchange() 3) Create stored procedure in DBC called SetChange: PROCEDURE setChange TRY IF glSetChange REPLACE CHANGE WITH DATETIME() ENDIF CATCH * WAIT WINDOW 'An error has occured' ENDTRY RETURN .T. ENDPROC 4) Run this code: USE ZOOT SET STEP ON REPLACE Z1 WITH 'NoZoot', Z2 WITH BadVarName Notice that glSetChange is uninitialized. This is by design. Notice that BadVarName is undefined. In order to reproduce this error, you need a two part REPLACE, and the first one (Z1 WITH 'NoZoot') must be valid, and the second one (Z2 WITH BadVarName) must be invalid IE have a runtime error such as uninitialized variable or invalid table/field name, etc. Observed Behavior: I step through the code via the above SET STEP because if you dont, sometimes VFP will just hard terminate, poof and it's gone. If you step through it, when you get to this line: TRY IF glSetChange You should get a c0000029. It varies according to the code in SetChange, but it will consistently crash. If I change the code slightly , I can get c0000005, c0000029. I also get MS VC++ Runtime Library error, Buffer overrun detected error. The code I posted above seems to consistently produce c0000029. This, for example, IF glSetChange .AND. 1 = 1 seems to produce a buffer overrun warning, other variations produce a mismatched push/pop type of message. Expected Behavior: A trappable VFP error should be generated, not a hard crash. Additional Information: I can get a crash in VFP7 by using this code in SetChange: PROCEDURE setChange ON ERROR llZOOT = .T. IF glSetChange REPLACE CHANGE WITH DATETIME() ENDIF ON ERROR RETURN .T. ENDPROC Since VFP7 does not support TRY/CATCH, I use traditional error trapping instead. In VFP9 the same process generates a c0000005 error. Tag: VFP 9 reports Tag: 205753

    - gibberish when printing in landscape VFP9 I have a very simple report, no calculations, no variables. Just simple fields. No report listeners. If I have paper orientation set to landscape and reportbehavior set to 90, the report is filled with gibberish. If portrait mode or reportbehavior is 80, it works fine.     - printers Hello, I am wondering if anyone else who has created full applications in FoxPro has come up with the dilemma of how many possible ways can an envelope be fed through a printer. I am the programmer of a billing software built in Visual FoxPro. I have a feature where people can print envelopes addressed to their clients. I have a report strategicly built so that the return address and clients address are placed in the positions where once an envlope is fed there envelope comes out correct. There are three different types of HP printers at the office that I can take into account, but what about the other brands? Is there a proceedure I can use that can give me how the specific invoice takes in envelopes? Or do I have to figure out all possible ways an envelope can be fed through a printer?     - firing the foxcode i've noticed that not only if we type SPACEBAR, but also typing the closing bracket ) will invoke intellisense. If one looks at the source code in XSource (in the FoxCode.prg), & places some code (preferably a messagebox in the DefaultScript() method, this will get displayed if you type ) Now, i want to know if we can control what characters invoke the foxcode.     - debugger problem in VFP9 I hate to quibble, but... In the Trace window, if you hover the mouse pointer over a variable or field, you get a ToolTip window showing the value of that variable. A very useful feature! But new to VFP9, if the value is a string, what's shown does not include the string delimiters, ie quotation marks.     - Tableupdate with Oracle (ODBC) Whenever I try to update an Oracle table through VFP remote view I have error message "Update conflict". Looking on internet I found one post that it is known VFP error related to the way how VFP sends fields of type varchar to Oracle (Rpad).     - location of db in de I'm playing around with different scenarios, and found this. In this app, the database consists solely of a connection and remote views, and is located in a subfolder of the project folder called data\. The database is included in the build. Forms are built with the data\ database in their data environment. At runtime, I open the database (no path, because it's included). I was concerned that the forms would not be able to locate their data, since the data\ folder does not exist at this time (I renamed the original to prevent confusion). Yet the forms seem to work fine. Can anyone elucidate? Is this behavior documented? Furthermore, I put a button on a form to display DBC(), and it shows c:\... runtime folder\data\databasename.dbc, even though the data\ folder and databasename.dbc do not exist on disk.     - Update Word links Hi foxpro experts, Once again I turn to you for some advise :) I have some Word documents that have linked objects, something like this : {LINK Word.Document.8 X:\\Path\Document.doc \a \f O \p}. Word stores a path to there objects, but once I copy them to a new place, the path is broken, and you have to update them. You can do this by hand ofcourse, but I would like to do it from Foxpro. I found a forum that where someone was able to make a macro to solve this issue, but I don't know enough about macro's to turn it into Foxpro code. I know how to go through "Story's" in Word, but not how to update the fields in there.     - Data driving a class Hi, I am attempting to data drive code that can contain several methods by creating a table 'script_def' with two fields:- * script_name c(10) * exec_txt m - contains code to create the class. The test program below selects the appropriate record, creates the class and calls a method. MESSAGEBOX confirms that the correct record is selected and that test_script.prg contains the text from the correct record. However the code from the record that was selected the first time is executed - the .fxp appears to be in memory.     - Product Purchase Help Its been a few years since Foxpro 2.0, Borland C++ 3.1, VB 5.0, Codebase 2.5 etc ... been off on other development tangents in the RS6000 world ... now have a client that needs some ACCESS database work ... I have been using ACCESS 2000 and not liking it very much ... ASP looks interesting ... but Im having no luck in narrowing down a dev tool to go forward with What am I looking for ... something current that I can create applets for distribution that don't require additional licencing on the users part. I have several Access databases that are 5 to 100MB that need to have multiple user access which will be deployed on Win2K Pro Serverless peer 2 peer machines Foxro used to have a licence free engine which could be packaged up with an application EXE as did VB ... If user B leaves the record directly after the modifing everything works just fine. But if user B don´t leave the specific record - user A can´t see the modification. And an updateconflikt occurs. myView is optimistic rowbuffered, parameterized and contains one record only. Exclusive is set off. What´s wrong? Any ideas would be very appreciated.     - VFP 6: Large and Small Fonts I have read various posts about how large and small fonts affect Fox2 apps. How does it apply to VFP? I think I have a case of it. The symptoms: On one system, text is truncated in labels and command button captions. The form is the correct size, but the fonts are too big. I know that Drew Speedy has used BindEvents() extensively, but I don't know if it provides similar (or superior) capabilities regarding attaching event code to an automation server.     - VFP7 cursoradapter tableupdate write order I have a situation where the order records are written (shown via audit triggers) is a bit odd. Basically I have code which updates 3 files via separate cursoradapters (buffermodeoverride=5) in one transaction. The cursoradapters can be Native or SQL Server. Cursoradapter 1 is scanned and updated 1 record at a time using tableupdate(.F.,.F.). Cursoradapter 2 is scanned and updated 1 record at a time using tableupdate(.F.,.F.). Cursoradapter 3 has a single record updated using tableupdate(.F.,.F.) Transaction ends The order the records are committed is as follows: All Cursoradapter 1 records except the last one updated. All Cursoradapter 2 records except the last one updated. Cursoradapter 3 record. Last Cursoradapter 1 record. Last Cursoradapter 2 record. Is there any way of getting the last 2 record updates committed before the Cursoradapter 3 record as it looks really odd in our audit and is bound to raise questions later? Thanks for any help.     - New Method Why is it after I define a new method: ie, GetRecord that Foxpro dies when I assign this method as follows: THISFORM.GetRecord ( and the moment I enter the ( I get the following error: Fatal Error Exception Code=C0000005.     - Hiding main foxpro window Hi I am new to foxpro and am having a problem with the way it executes. In the program I call a form using a do form command and then a read events command right after it. I have compiled this and my form comes up with the data I want on it but theres a MicroSoft Visual Foxprow window behind it that I don't want to see.     - VFP table lookup on a PDA Hi, I've got a fun new project, where people in the warehouse want to be able to key in a stockcode on a PDA and return data from from our central VFP tables about current stock levels and stock location over a wireless LAN connection. PDAs will be Windows Mobile based. I realise that native VFP apps won't run on these, but there are still a few different approaches to this - various web based ones, .NET apps, etc. I'm not sure which would be best, easiest or cheapest. (got .NET through MSDN as an option, but never had time to try it out seriously.) Is anyone running a similar app? Any pointers would be very much appreciated.     - distributing DLL Hi friends I've created a DLL in vfp8.i want to distribute to some software vendors . my question is do i need to distribute vfp runtime files also along with my DLL? i tried using my DLL in VB on a machine which has no foxpro s/w and got runtime errors(like activex objects cant.....etc.,) but it worked fine when i copied vfp runtime files to the folder where my DLL exist. could u guys tell how you u normally distribute a DLL created in vfp.     - EXE size differs when I rebuild project. I have a project. I built the EXE about 2-3 weeks ago. This morning I build it again, and the EXE it produces is a couple hundred bytes larger. Nothing has changed, the project is kept in sourcesafe and I did a get latest into a clean directory. What would cause the EXE to be different in size when rebuilding it a few weeks later? Have you looked at the Solution Samples (in the Task Pane Manager) - New =
in Visual FoxPro 9.0? Go down to the entry "Create column chart reports =
using GDI+".
