    - After closing a form, a connection doesn't disconnect thoroughly I just found out that whenever I closed any forms (in which I use remote views), than the connection doesn't disconnect automatically. Is this a normal behavior or do I miss something? I could not literally put SQLDISCONNECT because there might be other forms use the connections.     - A lot of lockings and connections to SQL Server. Is it normal or bad? Hi all, First of all: *** HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!! :) *** then, here it goes; I've downloaded SQL Spy 6.0 from Hybridx (got it from http://files.webattack.com/localdl834/sql_spy_setup.zip). It's a freeware tools to monitor SQL Server activity. I use this tool to watch how my apps (created with VFP8SP1, ODBC, RVs and SPTs) interact with SQL Server. I found out that on some parts of my apps (where there are lots of traverse and calculation), the number of locks on the SQL Server could go up to 700 and the external connection could go up to 15 or 20. And I tested that on my box (that means; I run my apps on the server and no workstation connect to the server). Whilst the apps so far running fine, it's never been really tested to the max. The traffic are quite low and the concurrent user has never exceed eight users. Yet, looking at the numbers, I'm afraid that there something that I don't do effectively. Anybody here can give me advices on C/S programming, I mean just a quick thumb rules what should and what shouldn't.     - Codepage problem with DLL on vfp6 We have a Visual Fox Pro dll that is inserting information into a Visual Fox Pro database This dll is called via a Visual Basic COM object or an ASP page. VFP6 When we pass greek characters strings to the dll then the majority of times garbage data are insterted in the Visual Fox Pro database We tried several tests 1) While in the Visual Fox Pro dll we write the greek strings out to a text file.     - VFP 9 dll's needed for redistributed app All: I am trying to test one of my applications in VFP 9 and I am getting this error "Visual FoxPro cannot start. Could not load resources." I have VFP9r.dll, msvcr71.dll, gdiplus.dll in the application root. I know from VFP8 and earlier you needed to have VFP8/7/RENU.DLL in the application root. Does VFP 9 have this and if so where is the file located? I checked Common Files\MS Shared\VFP and I cannot find it as well as checking the VFP install folder.     - Using legacy forms in FOxPro 8 We are upgrading from Fox 5 to Fox 8. In the Fox 5 application there are about 40 legacy forms left over from an earlier DOS FoxPro version of the app. These forms use a "READ MODAL" command. The help files don't explain anything more than to say that it is included for compatibility with older versions. But it worked in Fox 5 but now it doesn't work in Fox 8. Can these old forms be made to work without re-writing them? The app is being upgraded to 8 so that we have the ability to re-write in VB.NET in a piece by piece methodology where old fundtionality and new co-exist.     - Managing period accounts I'm designing a simple accounting system for our company, an Advertising company. We have nearly 500 clients and about 200 suppliers. I'v designed all the tables needed for A/c payable(Purchase orders, Supplier invoices, Payment vouchers), A/c Receivable (Sales invoices, sales receipts) and GL(petty-cash vouchers, bank payments, journal vouchers). Now I'v come to the most difficult stage where I'v to redesign my tables, so that 'period accounts' can be maintained (eg. monthly & yearly accounts). I'v a native VFP Database on a WIN2K server(with 20 users). Basically I want to know what are the typical tables that will be used in a simple accounting system like ours and their links and structures. And the typical method of maintaining period accounts.     - hard to track update error This problem has bedeviled me for weeks. I hope someone can shed some light on it. At issue is an inventory tracking system. Changes are made to current inventory, and entered into a log. In the code synopsis below, parts contains part numbers and onhand quantities (among other stuff) and invlog contains a log of inventory changes. Both tables are contained in the same database. Additions to inventory involve subtractions of certain quantities of component parts; as a result, increasing inventory of any part involves from one to as many as ten changes and log entries. This is a file server system. Up to three workstations may be adjusting inventory at once. For historic reasons, it is desired to keep all related inventory transactions together (physical order) in the log. I know that's not ideal, but there's no changing it at this point, and in any case, that's not part of the problem. But to implement this, I accumulate related log entries in the cursor invlcur, then enter them into the log all at once. The parts table is table buffered optimistic. I make the necessary changes (it goes pretty quickly), then call TABLEUPDATE. Invlog is not buffered. The users report no error messages. It's as if TABLEUPDATE() failed, but returned .T. anyway. Either that or ROLLBACK failed. I could try putting the log update after the part update, but even if that seemed to work, I wouldn't have confidence in it because I don't know what's wrong. And if it doesn't work, the error occurs so rarely that it would be a while before it was discovered. I see now that I should have a TABLEREVERT(.T., "parts") after that first ROLLBACK.     - Import text to DBF in SDF format - Decimal alignment I have used 'append from' to import an SDF file into a DBF. There are 125 fields containing char, date and numeric data. Everything appears to import correctly except in 5 numeric fields defined at numeric (7,2). The decimals are either missing, 1 position or 2 positions. An example of the imported data is 0001230. The decimal should appear between the 2 and 3. The decimal appears between the 2 and 3 or the 3 and 0 or not at all. You can use a timer that checks your message table or for a file in a folder
on your network. Here's a howto:
