    - printers Hello, I am wondering if anyone else who has created full applications in FoxPro has come up with the dilemma of how many possible ways can an envelope be fed through a printer. I am the programmer of a billing software built in Visual FoxPro. I have a feature where people can print envelopes addressed to their clients. I have a report strategicly built so that the return address and clients address are placed in the positions where once an envlope is fed there envelope comes out correct. There are three different types of HP printers at the office that I can take into account, but what about the other brands? Is there a proceedure I can use that can give me how the specific invoice takes in envelopes? Or do I have to figure out all possible ways an envelope can be fed through a printer?     - firing the foxcode i've noticed that not only if we type SPACEBAR, but also typing the closing bracket ) will invoke intellisense. If one looks at the source code in XSource (in the FoxCode.prg), & places some code (preferably a messagebox in the DefaultScript() method, this will get displayed if you type ) Now, i want to know if we can control what characters invoke the foxcode. I don't want to be limited with only SPACEBAR & Closing Brackets. I a few other such key characters to invoke the intellisense (foxcode). Any ideas, any one???     - debugger problem in VFP9 I hate to quibble, but... In the Trace window, if you hover the mouse pointer over a variable or field, you get a ToolTip window showing the value of that variable. A very useful feature! But new to VFP9, if the value is a string, what's shown does not include the string delimiters, ie quotation marks.     - Tableupdate with Oracle (ODBC) Whenever I try to update an Oracle table through VFP remote view I have error message "Update conflict". Looking on internet I found one post that it is known VFP error related to the way how VFP sends fields of type varchar to Oracle (Rpad).     - location of db in de I'm playing around with different scenarios, and found this. In this app, the database consists solely of a connection and remote views, and is located in a subfolder of the project folder called data\. The database is included in the build. Forms are built with the data\ database in their data environment. At runtime, I open the database (no path, because it's included). I was concerned that the forms would not be able to locate their data, since the data\ folder does not exist at this time (I renamed the original to prevent confusion). Yet the forms seem to work fine. Can anyone elucidate? Is this behavior documented? Furthermore, I put a button on a form to display DBC(), and it shows c:\... runtime folder\data\databasename.dbc, even though the data\ folder and databasename.dbc do not exist on disk. (They could be temp files somewhere, but that's not what is shown.) Any help explaining this as a general and reliable rule would be appreciated.     - Update Word links Hi foxpro experts, Once again I turn to you for some advise :) I have some Word documents that have linked objects, something like this : {LINK Word.Document.8 X:\\Path\Document.doc \a \f O \p}. Word stores a path to there objects, but once I copy them to a new place, the path is broken, and you have to update them. You can do this by hand ofcourse, but I would like to do it from Foxpro. I found a forum that where someone was able to make a macro to solve this issue, but I don't know enough about macro's to turn it into Foxpro code. I know how to go through "Story's" in Word, but not how to update the fields in there. The test program below selects the appropriate record, creates the class and calls a method. MESSAGEBOX confirms that the correct record is selected and that test_script.prg contains the text from the correct record. However the code from the record that was selected the first time is executed - the .fxp appears to be in memory. Basically I have code which updates 3 files via separate cursoradapters (buffermodeoverride=5) in one transaction. The cursoradapters can be Native or SQL Server. Cursoradapter 1 is scanned and updated 1 record at a time using tableupdate(.F.,.F.). Cursoradapter 2 is scanned and updated 1 record at a time using tableupdate(.F.,.F.). Cursoradapter 3 has a single record updated using tableupdate(.F.,.F.) Transaction ends The order the records are committed is as follows: All Cursoradapter 1 records except the last one updated. All Cursoradapter 2 records except the last one updated. Cursoradapter 3 record. Last Cursoradapter 1 record. Last Cursoradapter 2 record.     - New Method Why is it after I define a new method: ie, GetRecord that Foxpro dies when I assign this method as follows: THISFORM.GetRecord ( and the moment I enter the ( I get the following error: Fatal Error Exception Code=C0000005.     - Hiding main foxpro window Hi I am new to foxpro and am having a problem with the way it executes. In the program I call a form using a do form command and then a read events command right after it. I have compiled this and my form comes up with the data I want on it but theres a MicroSoft Visual Foxprow window behind it that I don't want to see.     - VFP table lookup on a PDA Hi, I've got a fun new project, where people in the warehouse want to be able to key in a stockcode on a PDA and return data from from our central VFP tables about current stock levels and stock location over a wireless LAN connection. PDAs will be Windows Mobile based. I realise that native VFP apps won't run on these, but there are still a few different approaches to this - various web based ones, .NET apps, etc. I'm not sure which would be best, easiest or cheapest.     - distributing DLL Hi friends I've created a DLL in vfp8.i want to distribute to some software vendors . my question is do i need to distribute vfp runtime files also along with my DLL? i tried using my DLL in VB on a machine which has no foxpro s/w and got runtime errors(like activex objects cant.....etc.,) but it worked fine when i copied vfp runtime files to the folder where my DLL exist. could u guys tell how you u normally distribute a DLL created in vfp.     - EXE size differs when I rebuild project. I have a project. I built the EXE about 2-3 weeks ago. This morning I build it again, and the EXE it produces is a couple hundred bytes larger. Nothing has changed, the project is kept in sourcesafe and I did a get latest into a clean directory. What would cause the EXE to be different in size when rebuilding it a few weeks later? I rebuilt it in the same directory structure, but my environment changed in that I have more mapped drives. I can't think of anything else that might have changed. The applications are started from the folder on the local PC. It seems that all of the temporary files which result from SELECT * FROM WHATEVER INTO CURSOR MYCURSOR READWRITE and any resulting index files are placed in the startup directory. Because my thread 'A lot of lockings and connections to SQL Server. Anyway after giving more thought about the problem, here is what I found: I found out that each time I run any form in my apps (the form is child window, in-top-level, private-data-session), after I close the form, there were two or three external connections still intact. I can easily 'kill' those external connections by running following break.prg. *!* Break.PRG ON ERROR * FOR i = 1 TO 200 SQLDISCONNECT(i) ENDFOR ON ERROR *!* end of break.prg Regardless whether I kill those connections or not, after I run another form, there would be other two or three external connections added (and other locking as well - although I don't understand what kind of locking MSSQL do). All connections belong to one apps would be immediatelly close if I closed the apps. Yes, I know that this would be my own fault and I should learn more. That's why i already purchase a copy of Client Server with VFP6, and will certainly read the book cover-to-cover. Anyway, what I need now is a quick-and-dirty fix to my problem. What I have in mind is to explicitly close the connection with SQLDISCONNECT( ) on the Destroy event of each form. I can easily put that in my baseclass form and it will affect all forms in my apps. Problem: Anybody knows how to get (and to traverse) all cursors (remote views and cursor from SPT) in current (active) data session? I cannot run break.prg on Destroy event, because that would kill other connections needed by other window. I'm looking forward to hearing from you! I found out that on some parts of my apps (where there are lots of traverse and calculation), the number of locks on the SQL Server could go up to 700 and the external connection could go up to 15 or 20. And I tested that on my box (that means; I run my apps on the server and no workstation connect to the server). Whilst the apps so far running fine, it's never been really tested to the max. The traffic are quite low and the concurrent user has never exceed eight users. Yet, looking at the numbers, I'm afraid that there something that I don't do effectively. My Questions: 1. Is the number normal? 2. Anybody here can give me advices on C/S programming, I mean just a quick thumb rules what should and what, like should I make a connection, get the data, and disconnect immediately. Or should I share all SPT in one connection?, or any other rule what should and shouldn't? Without looking at the code, the best that can be said is that you might be fine, or you might have written a terrible app (something we all have done at one time or another :) Lots of locks are fine, as long as you don't have lots of users contending for those locks. You say you have 8 users, is that all you are planning for? If everyone is happy, it might be fine. Bottom line is that you need to get some literature and read up on design, internals, optimization, etc before you can decide if your application is well written, and experience is a must. Without being able to magically aquire this (and it takes a while and sadly we learn from failure!) [skipped] Looks like my case is the second one :( As I stated in my post, the application runs fine, but it runs with a very minimum load. That's because the company using my apps is a machinery trading company. The activity is very low. To give you a clue how 'low' is that; they only have to create less than 10 invoices a day. Actually, that's the best numbers they got for years (that means less than ten sales a day - but, hey, the profit of selling one machine could cover three months expenditure!). Anyway, what I did is I backup the database, call up some of my fellow, line up eight computers, and massively attack the system with all the apps feature (purchasing, receive goods, stock preview, stock opname, delivery order, customer order, etc...). After an hour we manage to hang the server which by then, got about 350,000 locking and 80,000 external connections :( So, using SQL Server as a backend is not _that_ easy... I have a very simple report, no calculations, no variables. Just simple
fields. No report listeners.

If I have paper orientation set to landscape and reportbehavior set to 90,
the report is filled with gibberish.

If portrait mode or reportbehavior is 80, it works fine.

Obviously I have a workaround, since I'm not using report listeners, but I
thought I'd ask whether others have seen this.

I reported it already.
