    - Grid - Zero values I have a Grid on a form where the column is using the 'Z' format meaning that for numeric values, if the value is 0 then the column is displayed as a blank. Recently a requirement has emerged whereby a value of zero is a legitimate value in the grid. The problem is that I want to be able to display a zero value when there is a zero result but a blank value when no previous value has been entered. Is that possible?     - Very odd FoxPro 6 corruption problem I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight on this. I have a Dot Net 2.0 web app running on a server that reads and writes to a set of FoxPro 6 dbf tables using OleDb. Somehow the main file, the only one read during start up, has become corrupted. The message is: Memo file D:\FOXPROORDERENTRY\ord.FPT is missing or is invalid. Now the FoxPro experts where I work have given me some pointers on file recovery and I have tried reindexing among other things. However here is the weird part. I know the server web app works because it will work with the backup tables. I also have run the app on my development machine using the original 'corrupted' tables, but when I do that everything runs fine. In fact I am able to update the memo field of an existing record. But even after this, when I copied these same tables back to the server, the server-based app crashed again. (I suppose my worst fear is that this web app is somehow corrupting the table in some unknown fashion.     - Combo Box Help Have built up several combo boxes on a form which works very good. I have all the fields listed in the RowSource. The user would like the first item in the Combo box to always show up when entering a new item. UPDATE ; invoices ; SET ; shipdate = this.value ; WHERE ; approvalcd = invoicelist.approvalcd AND ; inv_num = invoicelist.inv_num How do I check that the record was actually found an updated? I don't know if this is strictly necessary. The only reason that I have the ELSE code in the first example is that my coding style is to always cover the ELSE if the result of the failure are important. In the case of coding with UPDATE, I'm changing a record that I think should be there to be changed. In the AfterRowColChangeEvent of the first grid, I do the query for the second grid. I always thought that this problem had something to do with the recordsource property of the grid but that is apparently not the whole story. Now that I've implemented it to lots of oohs and aahs, I'm starting to hear that since most of the time users have a browser based application running at the same time, they'd like the Google maps link to open in a new instance of Explorer rather than using the existing instance. When I RT'd the FM it said something about UPDATE using record locking but it wasn't clear. -pause- As I was writing this posting it dawned on me that UPDATE without a condition will update every record in the table.     - Database Help Hello all, thanks in advance for the help.... I've been using Fox for many years but I've never used DATABASES. The apps I'm running come from 2.x DOS days. All the DOS code is long gone now so I think its time to make the jump. I'm sure I've asked these questions here before but I don't remember the answers... Can tables in a database still be accessed as free tables? Are there different index requirements for tables in a database (Primary Keys, etc)? I would like to move into this slowly so as not to break any existing code. My primary motivation right now is to get a data dictionary where I can make notes about the various fields in some of the tables. I realize that databases can do a lot more but that is where I want to start. Once I add a table into a database, what else am I required to do in programs which use the table?     - Help with .cdx file Have a program in VFP 9 and want to user proof it. So my program determines whether the data has become corrupt (using error 2005) then deletes the table and the structural .cdx file, then using create table I recreate the data table and then I use the index command using the syntax index on whatever tag indexname. On the machine I am writing this on this works fine, but when I put it on my testing machine the index creation was .idx files as opposed to a .cdx file. I found a suggestion to use a backup of the .cdx file, copy it to the same name as the table and then immediately upon opening reindex but that does not appear to be working. The reference is treated as being the third element starting in row 4 with VFP not checking against the declared dimension. The reference is treated as referring to twod(5,1), not as being an error.     - How to read and update information via the internet. I am thinking of implementing a registration system into a commercial VFP application that will connect to a server across the internet, pass some unique account details and then return an expiry date. I know that I can create a .Net web service but this will require me to install all sorts of things on our clients sites and I want to keep things simple. I considered opening a query across the internet to a COM object but I understand this requires Soap which has been discontinued. I need this to be very fast and only a small amount of information will pass back and forth. What are my options here.     - I Hate this kind of problem. Please Help Hello and thanks in advance for the help. I have an program which builds a file for the report generator, calls the report, and returns. It is being called from a right click menu of a form. The code for printing (2 lines) SELECT Inv_Print REPORT FORM pickticket to PRINTER NOCONSOLE The problem is that the first time this PRG is called from the compiled version I get a variable not found message. The problem does not occcur on calls to the PRG after the first one. Here is what I know about this problem: 1. If I change the REPORT line to include PREVIEW the code works fine 2. If I insert a BROWSE command in front of the REPORT command, it browses the INV_PRINT table and then prints fine. 3. If I put the BROWSE after the REPORT command, the error occurs and I discover that I wasn't actually pointing to the INV_PRINT table. As I said in the subject, I hate this kind of problem. Does anybody have any potential solutions or debugging suggestions. BTW, if you run the code in the debugger, the problem doesn't happen. It was only by sticking the BROWSE after the REPORT command that I discovered that it was pointing at the wrong table. My application (created with Visual FoxPro 9.0 SP1) is using MSSQL 2005 (SP1) database as the backend. I read the data via SQL Server Native Client ODBC driver. Problem starts when I saw the following from SQL Server BOL (under the title "ntext, text, and image (Transact-SQL)" ): <start copying> ntext, text, and image data types will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using these data types in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use them. Use nvarchar(max), varchar(max), and varbinary(max) instead. For more information, see Using Large-Value Data Types. <end copying> and based on that, I'm using varchar(max) instead of text. PROBLEM: 1. If I use RemoteViews, VFP will automatically read the varchar(max) datatype as c(0) (i.e. character type with zero length). Obviously, the data get truncated to zero length. Ok. I thought this one is easy. Simply change the datatype to Memo with the following: DBSetProp("SalesPerson.Notes","Field","DataType","M") would do the trick - and yes, it works well. But I wonder, is there any way to somehow 'force' VFP to do this by default? 2. If I use SPT; say, something like this: text to lcSQLCmd textmerge noshow pretext 2 select SalesPerson, Notes from SalesPerson where pkSalesPerson = lcPKSalesPerson endtext =sqlexec (liConnHandle, lcSQLCmd, [xSalesPerson]) then VFP will truncate Notes to c(0) as well. I have to use the following lcSQLCmd instead: text to lcSQLCmd textmerge noshow pretext 2 select SalesPerson, cast(Notes as text) as Notes from SalesPerson where pkSalesPerson = lcPKSalesPerson endtext Now, if i would have to force SQL Server to convert varchar(MAX) to text on _all_ select queries, why would bother to use varchar(MAX) in the first place anyway? Is the cost of forcing SQL Server to do the convertion worth the price of using varchar(MAX) instead of text? 3. Can anybody with VFP9SP2 confirm whether this still happen in SP2? Is there = any reason for this? A desktop shortcut to x:\accounts\myapp.exe is then created and = everything works fineon numerous networks across the country - EXCEPT - for one installation. It is based on Windows 2003 server. It has been = installed and is being tested by the network administrator with full = rights. With the above settings, sitting at the workstation, running the = app, he first gets the message that the resource file in invalid, do you = wish to over-write it, and whatever answer he gives the next error is = 111 cursor can not be updated - possibly read-only. We have both checked everything we can think of (and no, the file flags = are not set to r/o).     - Could not create ZIP file <New Zip File Name> Hi, In one of my program I'm trying to zip up multiple files. In order to create the zip, DyanZip dll's are used. When zipping up below error throws up from DynaZip; Could not create ZIP file <New Zip File Name> This error isn't prompted consistently, but occasionally. Strangely though, the New Zip File is created with the correct list of files as well. As per the DynaZip documentation Meaning/ Possible cause for this error is described as; "Could not create ZIP file - This error can occur when the target ZIP file or the directory to contain the ZIP file is locked or restricted by another."     - Grid Cell colour I am trying to change the background colour for individual cells in a row within a grid. Currently in the activerowcolchange event I am looping through the columns of the grid and setting the background colour of the textbox to be the desired colour and toggling the readonly property as well. If I click on a cell that has the new colour set it will show in the new colour but if I tab to that cell the new colour is not shown. I would like to see these cells in the chosen colour without the need to click on them. Is this achievable?     - msmapi control - problem sending attachments I have a routine that sends a number of statements by email to a number of clients (up to 1000) The statements may have up to 6 separate pdf's attached and a number of jpg's The batch routine that sends these works fine but a number of clients are reporting that they are not getting the attachments When I check the sent items, the emails are all there and properly formed with the attachments in place If a client who has this problem returns the email to me there is no attachment. I have set the switch in outlook to not send immediately in the hopes of being able to review and then send from the outbox after the vfp process was complete but this does not seem to prevent the immediate sending of emails. It seems to me to be a timing thing and that a lag should be placed in the process in order to allow outlook to properly form the email message before sending it. If I use the win api sleep function to provide that lag time, does this allow for other event steams to continue while it waits - or would the inkey() function be better?     - Random calc/printing problem VFP9 I am bringing this up again in case somebody has any clue. I have a fairly involved app that calculates customer totals, special fees, due dates, etc. and prints the invoice. The problem is that internally the numbers seem OK but "sometimes randomly" it prints it wrong. Here are some details: 1. The customer can insert codes in a string to position their fees, totals, due dates, etc where they want on the invoice. The codes are converted to actual fees, etc. characters and the string is printed out on the report. I do the similar substitutions for customer data on other part of report (no problems). 2. It never happens on one of mine PCs - but I don't use the app 8 hours/day. 3. One customer has two networked PCs. The random results happen on one PC (XP with SP2) and not on the second PC (XP with SP1). 4. This app was updated from VFP5 to VFP9. It did not happen with VFP5. 5. Most cases with problems are using HP laser printers. 6. I install my apps by simply using the minimal required VFP9 files into the app folder.     - FoxPro 2.6 DOS Windows XP Pro Redirect LPT2 Printer Problem I recently tried to upgrade a client to Windows Professional peer-to- peer networking who is using an older FPD26 DOS application. Everything worked OK under his former networking with Lantastic with a mix of Windows XP PRO and Windows 98SE machines. Now, all his PC's are Windows XP PRO. His application prints to 2 different printers (LPT1 & LPT2) which are physically attached to one of the PC's named PRNTSRV. The 2 printers are an Okidata 321 and an Okidata 320 both using the built-in WIndows XP drivers. I am unable to redirect the print job from any of the PC's to LPT2: on PRNTSRV, however, PRNTSRV print to LPT2. I can redirect LPT1 to PRNTSRV with no problem. I am using the command NET USE LPT1: \\PRNTSRV\OKI321 /PERSISTENT:YES NET USE LPT2: \\PRNTSRV\OKI320 /PERSISTENT:YES The FPD26 command SET PRINTER TO \\PRNTSRV\LPT2: results in a "printer not ready error message." All is file with xp. Under vista, it does work if the data is on the local drive but if the data is on the server, vfpcompression is unable to create the zipped folder locally. or
lnValue = -253
