    - Help connecting FP Application to a mail server OK, this might be a bit of a newbie question, but the last time I used FoxPro was in 1990 and I am trying to get to grips with Visual FoxPro (though I am using VFP 6.0 until I can get my copy of Visual Studio Can somebody point me in the right direction to find some resources.     - VFP under Mac OSX Does anyone have experience running FoxPro under the classic environment in MacOS X? Some of my forms run, but there's trouble with FoxPro remembering where files (such as Wizstyle.vcx) are. Setting file location options in the Options dialog doesn't work. In fact, if I set file locations, close the dialog, and then re-open it, the options I just set are gone. Does anyone have any ideas, or is this a lost cause? Currently, I am having problem with the NetWkstaGetInfo function. I need to create a customized data type like the one written below. I wonder if we can do this in VFP?     - cursorfill displaying query inside form! We are changing our forms to use native cursoradapters. Sometimes when the selectcmd contains some outer joins to other tables, the query cursor appears in the topmost form until you press a key at which point it disappears and the form loads perfectly with the correct information. I'm not sure what's causing this. It only seems to happen with some selects and not other similar ones. It doesn't happen if the selectcmd is changed to do a simple select * from tablename.     - Member classes (Grids, Columns & Headers) I'm trying to use the Member class feature of VFP 8 to create classes for 1). Grid class (which uses the Member class feature for mapping Columns) 2). Column class in a PRG (which uses the HeaderClass for mapping Header class) 3). Header class in a PRG (for the Column Class). I've created a Visual class for the Grid, & have set the Member Class & Class Library properties of the grid for the Column class (in the PRG). The contents of the PRG (for the Column & Header classes is as follows) DEFINE CLASS uColumn AS Column HeaderClassLibrary = 'F:\Research\VFP 8\Base Classes\_Grid.FXP' HeaderClass = 'oHeader' ENDDEFINE DEFINE CLASS oHeader AS Header Alignment = 2 FontSize = 8 Caption = "Header" Name = "Header" ENDDEFINE When i drop the Grid class on a form & use it, its all fine, The caption of the Header is Center Aligned. But, if i go & change this Alignment of the Header caption to Left (0) in the PRG, then the changes are NOT reflected in the GRID (form). The changes APPEAR ONLY IF, i change the column count in the Grid (on the form) to a greater value, & run the form. Ie, I HAVE TO REFRESH the GRID to retrive the Column class from the PRG once again, which in turn refreshes its setting for the HEADER CLASS from the HeaderClass & HeaderClassLibrary. Am i doing something wrong here. Cuz, if this is how it works, then I'll have to modify ALL my forms, when ever i make a change to the Header Class in the PRG.     - Return value of ShellExecute() API I'm using ShellExecute() API to print a Word Document, & at times ShellExecute() API returns the value 2. Which means the FILE CANNOT BE FOUND. But this isn't so, the file does indeed exist. The code fragment is as follows, ShellExecute(lnHandle,"Print",lcFile,"","",1) Where lcFile is the FULL PATH & NAME of the FILE. NOTE : The word document doesn't have any Macros. & at times the ShellExecute() function works (ie the word document gets printed out, ONLY at times does this fail). Ie, only on certain occasions does ShellExecute return the value 2 (also the file is the same in all such calls).     - Data will not save I have tried using all methods I can think of, but the data will not save. The code pulls data from a table, runs it through calculations, then resaves it to the table. The data will not re-save to the table; however, if I debug (set step on), it works. I tried slowint the scan down. I tried using begin transaction, end transaction but it still doesn't save. The code is something like the following (too long to include the whole scan). This code is not in a screen nor is it user dependent for any interaction. I tried removing the the buffering and the multilocks. Nothing works. It use to work, then 'out of the blue' it stopped working.     - Beginner to VFP I just took over at a new company that originally used dbase to build some processes/reports and later converted it all into VFP 7.0. However, I noticed in looking at the VFP projects, that no database files were used and therefore, there are no primary keys established and/or relationships defined. In addition, there are no views used in any of the projects since those are only supported when using a database file Being a beginner to VFP and programming (8 years using Access only), can anyone give me some thoughts on why you would use a database file and why you wouldn't?? To me, having primary keys is critical to data integrity so I'm not sure why they weren't used. However, the old manager learned VFP from a book and didn't have a lot of dbase experience so that would explain why. Is using a database file important and/or critical?? Thanks.     - FoxFix 5.2 detecting memo corruption after COPY TO? Hello, We create a .DBC and export preformatted data files to disk just before running reports against them. I just scanned the resulting tables (that were created with the "COPY TO FileName DATABASE DatabaseName" command) and both FoxFix 5 and FoxFix v5.2 detect memo file corruption. Here are some of the results from the error logs: 311 (0x00000137) Memo Next Available Block (NAB) invalid 312 (0x00000138) Memo block size invalid 304 (0x00000130) Memo file truncated by 43 bytes. Probably benign and due to restructuring within FoxPro. Can anyone else confirm this behavior? We're having some weird Crystal Reports issues and were wondering if this could be an issue.     - Spell Check programs by Wintertree Software. Problem with VFP timers. Has anyone used the Sentry spell check program from Wintertree Software? I am experiencing a problem when the timers in my application fire, while doing a spellcheck. When I disable the timers, the spellcheck works perfectly. The calls to the spellcheck program are done using API calls.     - When saving getting Fatal Exception: Exception Code = C0000005 Hi All, I've got a wierd problem when i'm doing a batch save. What I'm doing is trying to import some data files into my application so I'm going down the import files and copying them to live data files & saving them using tableupdate. The files I'm updating are quite big ie they contain over 150 fields. Whats happening is during the update I'm crashing out with the following error: Fatal Exception: Exception Code = C0000005 . However there seems to be no consistency as to when it does this, infact sometimes it does actually go thru the update OK & it never seems to crash in the same place.     - Send data directly to printer on network, FPW2.6a Hello, I know this is a topic that comes up fairly often but I haven't managed to get anywhere :( I have an Epson printer that uses Epson ESC/P2 language. I want to write a report in ESC/P2 language and send it directly to the printer. I have written reports in native printer language before but the printers were always connected locally to a parallel port. After forming the data for the printer I'd use Foxpro RUN command to copy the data file to the relevant parallel port. Now I want to do this to a shared Windows printer. I have set up the printer on my computer with the "Generic/Text only" driver and now commands such as "LIST TO PRINTER" come out at draft speed. I always understood the way to get Foxpro to write directly to the printer was by using the ??? command. Unfortunately all this does is create a nasty white error box saying "Cannot write to device PRN ." then causes a GPF. I am using FPW2.6a, is there a decent way to do what I want? Is it any easier in later versions of Foxpro? From my experience it does seem as if there is a massive oversight in the Windows world by assuming that people will never want to write raw data to a networked printer.     - Exclusive Open Table Problem Hello - I'm having a strange problem where I can't seem to open a table for exclusive use just a few procedures after my program starts up. I get an Access Denied error. But, I've checked and the table does not appear to be opened any where else. If I do a MessageBox("test") right before I try and open the table for exclusive use it will work. If I don't issue the MessageBox then it won't work. I've tried a FLUSH command but that doesn't help. I can open it for shared use with no problem at all.     - calendar (mscal.ocx) I used the active x calendar in a project. I installed it using Installshield and it went well. My problem is when I run the exe in Win2000 workstation. As soon as I run the form that has the calendar, it would pop a screen as if it is trying to reinstall/repair the project installation.     - Converted Forms Disappear I have read a couple of replies on the NG about the forms disappearing when the mouse is moved over the form. The replies were as follows: problem with converted forms running on Windows XP with themes enabled. To prevent this behavior, simply add this code to readactivate() event for the converted form to prevent the read controls from disappearing under XP when themes are enabled: this.Forms(1).lockscreen = .T. this.Forms(1).lockscreen = .F. Additionally, this lockscreen trick also works to prevent the controls from READ code,. Just toggle _screen.activeform.lockscreen just before the READ command. A final options is to disable themes using the SYS(2700) function. I read the replies about the converted forms to VFP8. I am having the same problem when anyone moves the mouse over the form it disappears. When the mouse is moved off of the form it comes back. I have sent my program out to 100 users with no problem for the last 5 years until now. This did not happen until I went to VFP8. The program ran fine from FPW2.6 to VFP6 but when I went to VFP8 this problem popped up on two machines so far. They have both been Toshiba portables. Do I have to put this in every form that has been converted to VFP8? I have tried the sys(2700) and checked if the themes are off or on and it always comes back off. I also went into the XP to find out how to shut off the themes but cannot find out how to do that. There is a way to change themes but how do you shut it off. Can you explain how to put the lockscreen in the form?? I just edited the form, went to the readactive() and typed in this.format(1).lockscreen=.T. and then .F. Maybe I should rewrite all the converted screens using VFP8. I have 60 forms that I have converted to VFP8. I am thinking of scrapping VFP8 and going back to VFP6. Is it possible to just edit the converted form and do a select all and copy. Then create a new form and do a paste to the new form to make it a VFP8 form??     - Corrupted header or .... I've inherited a table that has, at the very least, a corrupted header (ie "Not a table" error). On further investigation, the header appears to have been rewritten in some way. The first 3 bytes contain the letters "AFS" and somewhere in the middle there appears to be a list of long field names, some other undecipherable data, and their 10 character limit equivalents. Possibly this stuff is the result of some security scheme and/or the efforts of a data dictionary, but, whatever it is, I don't recognize it.     - Need advanced CREATE VIEW Hi, I've been running into some race conditions. I thought I could solve them with an error routine triggered by a failed FLOCK or RLOCK. The error routine would save the current file state with a CREATE VIEW and close all files to allow the other user(s) to complete their tasks and then restore the view and continue with normal program execution. The problem is that CREATE VIEW doesn't save the record pointers. I thought I could circumvent this by saving RECNO(i) in an array and then restoring. But I ran into problems. The major problem is that you can't simply GOTO the saved record number in each table when there are relations involved. You have to go to the record number in the master table first and then to each child table. If there is more than one level of relations, you have to work down the relation tree. I realize I could write code for each specific instance where a RLOCK or FLOCK was used to save that particular state, but that would be crude and time consuming. A solenoid with a rubber finger positioned in front of your PC's
start button should do the job. I think you'll also need a capacitor,
a transformer and an electronic timer (all available from your
local electrical store).

You can do this with an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) if it comes with
the right software. The ones from APC (www.apc.com) work if they have the
PowerChute software bundled with them.

Lots of BIOS's support this option now-a-days. So check youre BIOS-setup.
