    - Using Ghostscript with VFP9 I've successfully converted the text file to a PDF but in the application if I try it a second time it says it can not convert the PS to a PDF.     - Converting a collection to a table? Hi, Using VFP 9.0 sp1. I'm working with a collection of information retrieved from the win32_computersystem class. It returns a collection and I'm wondering what is the best way to get this into a table form? The only method I see is using a FOR... EACH process. I'm just wondering if there is a more elegent method. Also, is there a way to process an object from a collection and list all of it's properties, assuming you don't know the names of those properties? Lastly, is there a way to see some of these classes like win32_computersystem class and win32_operatingsystem classes using the object browser? I think these are part of the .Net 3.0 framework.     - object hierarchy I'm using the sys(1272) function to get the complete hierarchy of an object. also to retrieve that objects form. unfortunatally this results only a form name as a characterstring and not as an object reference.     - Grid with columns[].currentcontrol being containers Grid with multiple columns, each column's currentcontrol being a container, and the container made up of 3 textboxes. When I hit the down arrow, the focus switch from grid.columns[i] to grid.columns[i+1], rather than skipping to the next record.     - ActiveX Control To Compress and Resample PDF Files Does anyone know of a control that will resize and compress pdf files (from say 300dpi to 150 dpi) and convert it to black and white to get the most compression possible (for transferring via the internet)?     - XiTech KonXise Is Xitech still around? I've sent them several Emails re: Konxise for VFP 9 with no response. Is Ver 1.1 compatible and if not what is not compatible. On the Xitech website it says you need 1.2 for VFP 9. Any ideas and also why are they not responding to Emails? Perhaps there is another product that does what Konxise does. Anyone know?     - Memo Files Keep Getting Corrupted - Help I'm having a problem with a client of mine where fpt files are getting corrupted now everyday. I can't seem to figure out why. I fix it by taking a blank table and appending all the records from the corrupted table to the blank table. The file reindexes fine but if I do a Pack Memo then it gives a "memo file is xxx.fpt missing or invalid" I have tried almost everything from changing the cables, hubs, routers and still the problem continues. They only have about 8 workstations on their server so it is not a large network. I have many other clients and none have this problem. I've tried substituting out the server for another server (just a simple Win 98 server) and that did not fix the problem either. However, it does seem that other tables with memo files (although not used as much in the program) also are vulnerable to this problem. The problem started a few months back. They had been using the program for years without this problem and many other clients of mine use it with no problems like this at all. What can cause a memo file to keep getting corrupted like this?     - Converting WMI Script to VFP? Hi, I'm playing around with Windows scripting with an eye towards making my own computer inventory application. I have a little test script and it works fine when run as a VBS file but when I run it from VFP I get an error. Jus wondering if anyone can direct me to a source for figuring out the equivelent VFP commands for some of these VBS commands. Or, direct me to a source of examples of these kinds of system calls with VFP?     - combobox problem Hi all, I have a look up table and a master table. The field that link both is numeric. I also have a combobox bound to both files, but for some reason it doesn't display the field values. my code looks like this comb1.sourcecode= daily_log.jobn comb1.rowsourcetype= 3 comb1.rowsource= "select jobname, jobn from jobs into cursor cc1" comb1.boundColumn= 2 When I navigate the Daily_log the combobox doesn't display anything. What am I missing?? I have other combobox bound to other tables with a key (type char) and there is no problem at all. This is what I need to do in my project. Unfortunately Rusty is using Outlook, so Cindy didn't provide the method on how to do in Lotus Notes. Can Cindy or anyone provide me the way on how to do it? I have some information already build in my application database, and need to pass some of them(as text) via email to selected person. Another question is, at the created Lotus Notes email, is it possible to embedded a link to launch the VFP application? As the person receive the email, will have to run my application to do something. The application will be located in a server and all the users have access to the server. VFP 8, 9 in XP Pro Given a standard listbox with about 10 items shown and set to multiselect, should a click and drag within the listbox select the range of items overwhich the drag took place? It appears that this is the desired behavior, however, one or more items in the list always end up not selected after performing such a selection. It's almost as if an event or interrupt takes place during the drag and VFP does not register the items as selected when that interrupt was happening. Clicking the first desired item, then shift-clicking the last one works fine, but dragging a range of items is spotty.     - Where are Forms/Programs Called From? I often re-use code from one project to another, and when compiling the new program, it wants to find forms or programs from the original project. As an example, my new project doesn't use clientedit.scx, but when I compile the new program, it brings it in. How do I find where in the project specific forms and/or programs are being asked for? This is easy: thing="abcdefghiabcjkl" thing=strtran(thing,"abc","def") What if I want to have it be case-insensitive in the search so that thing="aBcdefghiABcjkl" would also result in two changes? The problem is that the flags parm controls case sensitivity, and I apparently have to specify all parms. thing=strtran(thing,"abc","def",,,1) does not work. I have to fill in the blanks as in thing=strtran(thing,"abc","def",1,n,1) where n is arbitrarily high. This is a kludge -- think large memos. Is there a way to avoid this? In this case I think it is 'high-ranking' police officers who are aware of the persecution, they know a complaint has been made, and they're doing nothing. What is more, I don't think there is anything I can do that would make them take action, both because they may be being 'leant on' and through the wider view that it could be deleterious to the state to have a persecution by state organs exposed. Perhaps you the reader might not know, but lots of people in the media etc do. Remember, I was born in the UK and lived there until a couple of years ago. I don't think these people would condone state-sponsored murder of someone who might be seen on a good day as one of their own. b) Rather than doind anything directly, they're going for spying, verbal harassment, media harassment, every form of persecution short of the physical. Because as soon as anything turns physical, the police become involved; and unless it turns physical, the police can shrug and say 'not our problem'. So they persecute you and try to get you to react, either by hitting one of them (in which case I clearly find myself in the wrong as far as the police are concerned), or by trying to harm myself (in which case they can pretend they weren't responsible). It's a pretty unproductive form of harassment actually, because if you don't react then they're wasting they're time. I do not care whether Mike Corley has an email account or not. It is a matter of supreme indifference to me whether his fanciful account of persecution is aired or not. If he thinks that he has been persecuted by M15 and Chris Tarrant, then that is a matter for him. But there is a world of difference between repeatedly spamming usenet - which is unacceptable - and setting up a Web Site containing his post, which is entirely acceptable. Then it will be possible to choose whether or not to partake of his fantasy. I don't want to post this to usenet because somebody might try to tie that in to my posts in some way (someone already has, in uk.misc). First of all, I'd like to ask you to believe that my phone line in my apartment is bugged, and has been for many months. I have moved a couple of times this year, but "they" have faithfully been on my trail. Anyway, let's suppose my phone line is bugged. Now, when I talk to my internet service provider, it's over a SLIP (now PPP) connection. So if you wanted to bug what was said, either you'd listen in over the line and have to decode the transmission, or you could go to the service provider (more difficult) and ask them to decode a particular user's connection. OK, so now they're listening to everything I do over my SLIP/PPP connection. A couple of months ago I was messing around with faking articles through nntp servers and through anonymous remailers. I chose a nice inconspicuous newsgroup for my little tests, something no-one would ever notice. Guess which newsgroup I chose??? Yes, _FISH_!!! or rec.aquaria to be precise And guess what articles I tried to post? Goldfish, Koi carp and, you'll never guess... PIRANHA!!! The goldfish article and the Koi went through, but the piranha didn';t appear. by now you probably think this is too silly for words. But if you look in the papers a few eeks ago you will find John Major, Tonny Blair and Paddy Ashdown sharing a "private joke" about Major's sunburnt goldfish. We haven't had anything about Koi yet (they must be too dull ). Now, sent by someone who clearly knew what they were doing (they chose an Italian backbone site for their launch point) we have many thousands of messages to people all over the globe. All about piranha, and with the punchline "that gives you something to think about, doesn't it?" The way it works is that they're trying to kill two birds with one stone again. Sometime around August/Sept 1992 I was living in a house in Oxford, and coming out of the house was physically attacked by someone - not punched, just grabbed by the coat, with some verbals thrown in for good measure. That was something the people at work shouldn't have known about... but soon after a couple of people were talking right in front of me about, "yeah, I heard he was attacked". Again, one I went for a walk in some woods outside Oxford. The next day, at work, someone said "you know he went to the forest yesterday". I don't want to put details on usenet of what happened because to do so would be to risk it happening again. If you put ideas in peoples' heads then you can find them reflecting back at you, and I don't want that. Also I can't remember that much from three years ago. Because people are infallible. Or is there more? A single source is indicated because of the range of harassment. Add in the technology to carry out the covert spying and the manpower and knowhow to follow you around for five years without being spotted. It smells very much of the security services, because there is no other organization (to my knowledge) which does the things I've seen these people do. Remember, they have deliberately chosen the softest of soft targets to victimize. They purposely chose a mentally ill person who they thought would be likely to kill himself anyway, so that they could get away with murder. And in all likelihood it will have started as a personal vendetta by someone. Who could that be? I don't know, but I can give you some clues. The first possibility (deep breath) is that someone from my college set me up. Six years ago I graduated from university in the UK, during the last year there I was steadily getting more and more ill. I know that I was talking in my sleep; although I don't know what I was saying, it got me a reputation, and if someone from my college talked afterwards to the "wrong" people then that could be the reason for all that has followed. I think that's the strongest contender for source. Directly beneath my room lived another bloke who frequently had his friends round late at night, after the time that I went to sleep. So they could have heard what I was saying in my sleep, and that could have got me the reputation for "talking to myself". What I don't know is why that should have rebounded a year after I left. You'd think it would have happened sooner; it's a bit odd to wait for a year and then start abuse. The reason I think it might be the former is that I got quite a lot of abuse along the lines of "sound-alike" or "double-entendre" at work, in particularly from Steve. So "double" inevitably came to mean split-personality, "two people in one"; "back" inevitably came to mean "backside", "come" inevitably meant you-know- what, "split" (well, we'd better split now) again you can guess, "bent" (of a similar bent), the list goes on forever. These aren't "nice" double- entendres intended for comedy, they're nasty words to humiliate and cause pain. If I could turn the clock back three years then I would sue my former employers for harassment and I would almost certainly win. I had to take pills after a year of Oxford, so they wouldn't be able to lie their way out of it.     - Why won't this custom option group work? In an attempt to make an optiongroup handle a logical controlsource, I made a custom option group class based on the standard optiongroup class. It has the standard two option buttons. The only customization is the addition of the following access and assign methods for the Value property: Value_Access: WAIT window "Accessing: "+TRANSFORM(THIS.Value) TIMEOUT 1 RETURN IIF(THIS.Value = 1, .T., .F.) Value_Assign: wait window "Assigning: "+TRANSFORM(m.vNewVal) TIMEOUT 1 This.Value = IIF(m.vNewVal = .T., 1, 2) The ControlSource of the optiongroup is set to a logical field in a table: theField -------- T F T F T When the form starts up the wait window with "Assigning .T." is displayed about 4 times - apparently during the form's paint and refresh methods. Okay, that's the field value. So far so good. Clicking a button that does a SKIP and a Form.Refresh() displays "Assigning .F.", the optiongroup correctly updates to show the second optionbutton selected, but then "Assigning .T." is shown and the optiongroup switches back to the first button being selected. Not good. As a result, as you skip through the table, theField gets set to .T. as the record pointer hits each record. Any idea where this second assignment to .T. is coming from? This seems very close to working and is a nice simple solution, but this unexpected assignment is messing it up! Turning on Event Tracking seems to indicate that the .T. assignment might be happening when the form's Paint() method is envoked during the form refresh. Yes, I know that a checkbox can easily be used in this case, but the interface calls for an optiongroup.     - user rights issue Nearly all our programs have a necesity to write to the folder where the executable is installed, ie local tables which are synchronised with the server tables. All our programs get installed into the program files folder. We have come accross machines occasionaly where the logged on user has only 'user' rights and cannot write to the installation folder.
