    - Upgrade from VFP 6 to 9 - RUN command fails I have the RUN command in a long-standing app that I am now running under VFP 9 for the first time, but even from the command window, a simple RUN cmd or RUN command both fail. I'd appreciate suggestions on what to look into next. The RUN command is an integral part of this application and we need it to work. If I do a DIR <batchfilename> from within VFP 9, the file is there, and I can edit it from a cmd window (which I just did) and save my changes, and I also just ran it from a cmd window, but this is a cmd window opened by the operating system (me clicking on the shortcut on my desktop labeled "dos box") and not from within VFP 9.     - Delete query Can someone tell me why the following does not work? I have two tables, cps and complete. I need to delete all the records in cps that match the records in complete.     - Sending report to file I have a large VFP application I inherited. There is a function I made to create a PDF from a report and email the PDF file. I send the output to a file using the command REPORT FORM MyReport NOCONSOLE TO FILE MyResultFile.ps I then use GhostScript to create a PDF. Everything works fine the FIRST time, but the next time I run the REPORT FORM command, the output is sent to the default printer and not a file. In trying to find the problem, I have used DISPLAY MEMORY TO FILE both times to compare the contents of memory. I have done the same with DISPLAY STATUS. I do not see any glaring differences that would prevent the output to a file the second time around. If I exit the application and reenter each time, the report is sent to a file successfully. It only fails if I _don't_ exit the application and it only fails after the first run. I have verified the printer is being set correctly and the SET('PRINTER', 3) is the printer with the postscript driver. This definitely seems like a bug in VFP since a file is not created and the REPORT FORM command should produce a file because of the "TO FILE". Any ideas?     - VFP9: Weird Event Issue A central part of my app is the Invoicing Wizard. It gives the operator a display of Work Orders and the opportunity to select one for invoicing. Because of the nature of the business, there are many things to check before invoicing, so the form has thirty-two buttons. While this might seem to be a good entry for the Interface Hall of Shame, it does work rather well. (Yes, I have used the app as well as having written it.) There is a peculiar behaviour that I noted when working on a related matter. Each Work Order listed has a textbox next to its details. Putting a "Y" in it selects the Work Order for invoicing. The textbox has input validation for whether it will allow the Work Order to be selected for invoicing. Among the things that is checked is the Work Order Type. If it is "E", then a messagebox asks whether this is what was really intended and should the system change the type to "F". If yes is chosen, the Work Order is updated and so is the display. If not, the Work Order is not selected. If "Y" is entered into the textbox, focus is moved off it (say, with <Tab>), and then the "Generate Invoice" button is clicked, invoicing will start. However, if "Y" is entered into the textbox, but focus is not first moved off the textbox before clicking "Generate Invoice", when the Work Order Type is "E", the messagebox will appear, a yes response will result in the Work Order and the display being updated, BUT invoice generation will not start. The focus will be on the Generate Invoice button, but the button's click will not get executed. My question is why does the button's click not get executed.     - SQL query problem with character comparison. Hi, I have a problem in Foxpro. We have a query like Select * from Account, Bank where alltrim(account.bank_id) = alltrim(bank_bank_id) and alltrim(account.Bac) = alltrim(Bank.Bac) and alltrim(Bank.Bac) = '0000991' and not Deleted() Bank table has a column Bac which is type Charater(7). The application always inserts 7 charactes in this column. Eg. for 71 it will insert 0000071. But i have some records in the table which are marked deleted and they have bac column as 0001 i.e is less than 7 characters. The problem is above query does not return a result set even though there are records present. Moreover if i pack the table Bac, the query works fine. I also tried changing the query to Bank.Bac = '0000144'. Initially it worked fine and returned me 400 records. Then i zapped 300 records from account and executed the query. this time it agan gave me no records. By some trial and error i found that the modified query worked if there were more than 170 records. For any less it gave blank recordset.     - focus.fll and vfp9 I used focus.fll in my vfp7 application, and there are hundreds of users out there. I used 2 functions (fil_encrypt and fil_decrypt) to encrypt and decrypt personal information. (I also used fil_open and fil_create but haven't started to worry about these yet). I am in the process of moving this application to vfp9 and of course focus.fll is no more. My dilemma is how to enable users to transfer their data. I don't really want to have to supply a separate vfp7 exe with runtimes to convert the data, but can't get a response from fastwrite.com about purchasing the source code for these functions. I have been using VFP program to use APPEND FROM to read Excel file and fill my DBF with data. So far I have no problem with that. However due to end-user request to minimize data entry work, I replace one of the Excel column with formula VLOOKUP to get some data from Excel table in the same workbook.     - No VFP At the risk of seeming utterly self-concerned, I was wondering what the easiest path might be for VFP programmers. I don't think I can in good conscience start a new project in VFP. Does anyone know what languages and developer interfaces are similar? I hope Microsoft gives us some guidance. It seems as though they should drop Access and keep VFP. But now we want to update our application to VFP9 so when we run our app under VFP9 IDE, that control runs correctly, but when it runs in EXE it fires an error: Error 1429 ...     - VFP9: Setting Printer Orientation Multiple Times I thought I had it all worked out. I did some final checking, and found that I do not have it all after all. A minor point: it turns out that the report should have its tag and tag2 columns emptied as well. More importantly, I find that I can not change the orientation in the middle of a report. I can kludge this on hardcopy by replacing my eject commands with close printer (and hope the pages print in order), but this does not work with PDF output as it ends the report. I only need to be able to do this for entire pages. The sys(1037,3) also appears to have no effect ever on PDF output. The sys(1037,3) documentation says nothing about the settings being for the entire printjob, but that is the way that it appears to work. Unless I missed something. If you know, what? In C# this is done by setting the property ObjectForScripting to the form object (). After this the htm page can run functions in the C# code. The ObjectForScripting property is lacking in the webbrowser control in VFP9. Any ideas how to do this? Basically what I want to do is to send back data to the calling ole control.     - VFP 9: Setting Printer Orientation Outside of Reports Some of you may recall my posts asking for how to set the printer orientation without using sys(1037). sys(1037) displays a form and though you can use keyboard to set it, it can fail if the user switches to another window. I do not use the report writer. I have many reports written with set printer on / ?. Here is how to do it without the sys(1037) form showing up. For as many settings sets as you want, do the following: Create a report. (I will use the name "setting".) It can have anything it in it. One label will do, just enough that it is saved when you exit. use setting.frx exclusive browse Find the row with objcode of 53. (It has been the first in all cases that I have seen.) Edit the memo expr. Enter whatever setting you want, one per line. For orientation, put in a line ORIENTATION=n where n=0 for portrait or n=1 for landscape. Delete the other lines (unless you want those settings). Save out of the memo. Delete the rest of the rows. Save out of the browse. pack use Save the modified report somewhere, both the .frx and the .frt. When you use the report, it will get changed, so making a run copy is the way to go.     - Multithreading in VFP 8 and 9 Hi: Just want to share another multithreading Demo with sources. It's based on Calvin Hsia's excellent work that posted in his blog at: http://blogs.msdn.com/calvin_hsia/archive/2006/05/23/605465.aspx I've just added the callback part and few methods and encapsulated all in 2 prg's to make it reusable. The demo is compiled in VFP 9 and you can found it in www.portalfox.com, at this link: http://www.portalfox.com/articulos/archivos/bozzo/Test_Threads.zip The demo is a simple form with 3 buttons wich do some work in it own thread, and then bring back the results to display them. Have a checkbox for testint the same methods in multithreaded and not multithreaded mode. To use in VFP 8 just need to recompile the proyects and the MT DLL (t1.dll) I think that copying and adapting the VFP 8 conditional code and using the VFPCOM component available freely from Microsoft it would be compatible with VFP 6 and 7 too.     - VFP 9: Odd Toolbar Behaviour I have a form in my app implemented as a toolbar. It formerly contained one editbox, two pushbuttons, a label, and some separators. Note that there was one control that could accept text input. It worked fine. Now, I need two textboxes. I have added more labels and separators, too. Everything is almost working. The problem is focus, except that since toolbar objects do not get focus, I have to call it something else. <G> Let us call it "cursoring". I cursor to the editbox. I cursor to the first textbox. I can not then cursor to the editbox. I cursor to the second textbox. I can not then cursor to the other two controls. IOW, I can cursor forwards (in the order of instantiation), but I can not cursor backwards. By not being to cursor, I mean that if I move the mouse pointer to the control that I want to cursor to and click, the cursor shows there as long as the mouse button is down. As soon as I release it, the cursor goes back to the toolbar control that it was at. I changed the order of instantiation to put the editbox after the two textboxes and to put it in between. The same behaviour resulted: I can cursor forwards (by instantiation order), but not backwards. If I click on another textbox not in the toolbar, I can then cursor to any of the three controls, but subsequently, I can not cursor backwards. What exactly is going on here? What can I do about it? I am using a toolbar because it is non-modal. It would be a violent change to make my forms non-modal. I can not make the toolbar a non-modal form, because VFP will ignore the setting if I have modal forms up. (At least, this was so in VFP 6.)     - mouseleave doesn't always fire Hello and thanks in advance for the help.... Does anyone know why MouseLeave doesn't always fire? Here is what I did... I created a form to which I added a container. In the MouseEnter Method I coded: this.BackColor = 8454016 && Green In the MouseLeave Method I coded: this.BackColor = 255 && Red Then I ran the form. If you move the mouse slowly, it does exactly what you would expect. It turns green when you enter and red when you leave. But if you move the mouse quickly you can get it to miss the MouseLeave event. Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done about this (short of tell my users to move the mouse slowly)?     - Saving Docked form position I am trying to restore the docked position and size of my forms so I can restore them when the program is restarted. I have been trying to use the GetDockState function to get the current dock status of my form and then writing that data to the registry. I can get the data written to the regristry but when I try to read the values back out and restore my forms I do not get the desired results.     - Application Lost Focus Thanks in advance for the help. I have an app that creates windows. I need to know when the windows lose focus. That is easy enough if a window loses focus to another window in the application but I also need to know if the window loses focus to another application entirely. I've noticed that losefocus only gets called when a window loses focus to another window in the app. Is there a way to detect when the app. itself has lost focus? I would prefer to do this in the window that had focus at the time the app lost focus but if I have to do it at the application level, that's ok too. Thanks again for the help.     - How to execute remote program? I need to know how to execute a remote program. I have a programme which copy data from some tables into a certain directory, then zip the tables and copy the zip files into a remote computer (through Leased Line). There is no problem in this programme. But unfortunately when I am busy or forget to run the programme the remote users do not get such data. There is also a possibility if the remote users could run the program. Besides this I also would like not to keep busy the computer of remote users since it takes around 20 minutes to complete the job.     - SQL into Excel -- Character vs. Numeric fields 1. A table (mytable) has 2 fields (let's say): Name and social security number (SSN). Both are character fields. 2. This isn't strictly a Fox question but since I develop in Fox I thought I'd
see if any of you have any ideas about this.

I use the MS WinSock control. One of the properties is LocalIP which should
be your machine's IP address. It is set by the control and not changeable in
code. My application stopped working and I was looking at the LocalIP
property.

It said 0.1.4.0 instead of 192.168.0.33 which is my correct ip address
(fixed, no dhcp involved)

Once I rebooted, the LocalIP went back to 192.168.0.33

I'm curious as to how it got changed. Did I have some poorly behaved
software? Did my machine need a re-boot and the funny IP Address was a
symptom? Is something more evil going on?

If anybody knows anything about this please tell me.
