    - Dynamic Menus I need to add functionality to my menu to allow users something similar to the way MS Office has the list of the most recent X files opened in the file menu. I have no problem tracking which items need to be in the menu, I am just too stupid to understand how to dynamically add them to the menu and change them as the selections change.     - Data dissapears from screen when upgrading to version 8 I am upgrading from version 5 to 8. When I drag my cursor over some fields on the form, the data dissapears.     - VFP7 grid refreshing I have a niggly problem that comes up at least once a year and I still haven't found a satisfactory solution to it. If you have large data files which are displayed on a grid on a form, if the file is filtered, grid refreshing takes ages. I've kept grid refreshing to a minimum because of this. The niggle is that if you come into a screen, I want the file to stay on the record that was last viewed so I don't GO TOP or anything. This means that the current record always shows at the very top of the grid even if it's the very last record in the file and there are a few thousand more above it. I'm not sure why the grid does this. I know a solution, but it involves doing a GO TOP and refreshing the grid then going back to my stored record number. But this then causes a massive slow-down which we can't live with. Is there any other way of making the grid show the current record in the middle rather than at the top?     - View PDF in VFP Form, Edit Form Field, Capture PDF Form Data VFP8. We are once again looking at editing PDF forms inside of VFP. We are currently testing the pdf.ocx from Adobe in conjuntion with Gnostice's pdftoolkit. I have looked at a couple of other options such as iSedQuickPDF. Right now I am able to open a pdf file using Gnostice's pdftoolkit (the ocx is slapped on the VFP form) and programmatically populate the pdf formfields on the pdf form with data from our app using the Gnostice pdftoolkit. We then save the pdf form to disk and open it again in the form using the pdf.ocx. The Adobe pdf.ocx allows the user to edit the fields on the pdfform. If the pdf form is saved to disk, I can then grab the changes to the formfields on the form using the Gnostice pdftoolkit and save those changes to tables in our app. The problem we are encountering is that the Adobe activex ocx will only save the changes to disk if the workstation has the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed. If only Adobe Reader is installed then the pdf form is saved without any data. Of course, our goal is to capture the form field data changes and save those changes back to our app's tables. Since the Adobe ocx is providing the means of displaying and editing the pdf form fields, the Gnostice pdftoolkit on the form does not see the pdf form once it is loaded in the Adobe ocx (since it is in memory and not stored to disk yet after the changes are made) or its values. The pdf toolkit can only grab the form field valus once the pdf form is saved to disk again after the changes are done. Then we run into the problem of requiring the full version of Adobe Acrobat on the workstations so the adobe pdf.ocx will save the form with the data to disk so the toolkit can read the changes. Any ideas? We could handle it with purchasing two separate pdf tools if necessary. If that is the case, then we need a means of displaying the pdf form and allowing the user the means to edit the form fields on the pdf form, and then save the data to disk so the 2nd toolkit can readin the changes.     - Uniq Number Hi Everybody. I need some ideas how to get the unique number in the range 1-9999 for my application. It has to be absolutely uniq for any instance of my application. What I am doing is I try to create on my server file name with certain prefix and four digit number and try to see if I can open it exclusively. If I can then it's uniq. I am using Fcreate(MyFileName). The problem that I have is FCREATE function works very slow when it cannot create file.     - VFP 8.0 and copying folders. Is there a native foxpro command to copy a folder and its contents to a different drive. I can only find examples that require WSH is installed on the target machine. I have about 2000 files to copy from a CD to the users harddrive. I need to do this from within the installation or from code. I would include all these files, but InstallShield Express hangs up when I try to drag the folder during creating a new project. I assume that there are too many files. And since I do not have the full Install Shield program, I cannot create a link to this folder. Thanks, John.     - How to save VFP Debuger window's size and position? Hi all, I have specific preference while opening a debugger. I want the Trace Window and the Watch Window to have some specific Height and Width, I seldom need Output and Locals Window, so I prefer them to hide, and I want the Stack window to be on specific position.     - Data access in VFP 8.0 views I was thinking of changing over to OLEDB data access instead of current ODBC connection. My application uses lot of VFP views to do select, update, insert etc. I am worried that when changing over to OLEDB, I cannot use Views any more.     - foxpro 2.6 Fields - disabled fields makes software to abort Hi I have a problem in foxpro 2.6. I have 2 Fields in a screen. The first field is alphanumeric and the second is a date field. In field1-Valid() I check that field1 is empty and if so field2 will be disabled. When the program runs and field1 is empty it works to use the tabulator to leave field1. What happens is that field 2 is disabled and the control is forwarded to the next object in the screen. My problem is if I use the mousepointer to click in field2. Then, field2 is disabled but the program aborts without any messages. I have tried different solutions for example to add code in the When() clause for field2 that determines that field1 is empty and gives control to another object in the screen. But it won't work.     - MSComm error handling Dear All, I wrote an application which use MSComm to send message to serial comm port. And the application is running round the clock (24 * 7). The following is the logic flow of the application: 1. Set timer interval = 1000 2. Read data 3. Send data to comm port 4.     - VFP8 : GOTO negative recnos in buffered mode Hello all, I am coming accross a big pain in my app that has moved from VFP6 to VFP8. Basically, I have a common function that is refreshing a grid and going to a newly added record. The problem case comes in when the view is buffered, which means calling RECNO() will return a negative number (-1 for one record added, -2 for two records added, etc...). Issuing the command GOTO( RECNO() ) gives an error in VFP8 of "Record out of Range", but if VFP6 everything works out merrily. Any ideas? Please let me know if I should post more information. Thanks!     - What's the use of using resource file in my_apps if all it does is saving C5 error? Hi all, One of my client just called earlier this morning saying that he had a C5 error since yesterday and he couldn't run some parts of my_apps. Anyway, I searched this ng and found a suggestion to delete foxuser.* (from Craig Berntson if I'm not mistaken). I convey this solution to my client just now, and it fixes the problem. This whole story makes me think; Why not put SET RESOURCE OFF in my main.prg and only use resource file for certain-specific-read-only purpose only (I have res_noprint.dbf and res_rdesigner.dbf that I use to prevent printing from preview window and to show designer toolbar while opening report designer at runtime)? What do you think guys? Anybody here have a real use of default resource files (foxuser.*) ? Or maybe, Am I the only one here who don't have SET RESOURCE OFF in the main program and I should've known this behavior from the day-one I use VFP? I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you!     - set path We have developed an application using a data set in \\machine1\data. The forms in this application have the tables in their data environments. The app works fine until we want to use a different set of data. Setting path to \\machine2\data works fine as long as \\machine1\data is not accessible. If \\machine1\data is available it will always use that data regardless of the set pathh setting. Is there a way to stop this behaviour.     - procedure in separate files = slow execution? I had an application with a large procedure file. The application uses SET PROCEDURE TO <this file> I'm writing another application which uses a few of the procedures in the file. I don't want to include the large procedure file in my new application so I took the common procedures out of the large file and created a separate .PRG for each one. These procedures are used in small loops and when I build the original application, the code runs at least twice as slowly now these procedures are in separate files. Is this a known effect? (having written that post and thought a bit,) I'm thinking I should #INCLUDE the files in the procedure file.     - OLE error with control (BarCodeWiz) I'm using an ActiveX control to print barcodes. When I preview the report, it runs fine. But when I try to print to a printer, it generates: "OLE error code 0x80020009: Exception occurred." I've asked the vendor about this but have not gotten an answer as of yet. This happens in VFP6 and 8. And with an HP LJ printer and a Dymo label printer. I'm also using a similar control from IDEAutomation that doesn't generate the error. The programs that use these two controls are virtually identical. The error doesn't seem to be in my program b/c simply clicking on the Print icon in the report preview produces the error.     - button.default won't stick I have a form in which, depending on certain conditions, the "default" property should apply to different buttons. But when I set a button's defaut property to .T. at run time (which according to the doc, sets all others to .F.), the change doesn't take. Even if I pause execution and manually set the property to .T., the "default" button switches back to the original as focus passes from one control to another. None of the buttons get disabled, but their picture and/or captions change. If I set other buttons' default property to .F. before setting another's to .T., that does not help the situation. My exe has difficulties on start up, when +-8000 records are reached. The exe just quit without any warning and the problem goes away when I zap the file and rebuild it.     - Can COM objects be called from both foxisapi and ASP? I have an application that is calling my com object from ASP pages as well as via foxisapi. After accessing the com object from foxisapi any attempt to access the com object from ASP results in "HTTP 500 - Internal server error". This continues even if I /RESET foxisapi. The only way to fix it is to iisReset. FoxIsapi does not have a problem with it though and I can continue accessing the object through it. I can also access the com object through createobject(..) within fox. I may have to convert everything over to FoxIsapi but this was planned to be a gradual upgrade as it is a very big site.     - Progress bar with a SQL Select statement I often use a progress bar within a scan/endscan to give the user visual feedback and reassure them that the system hasn't hung. I pass it two parameters: current record number, and max number of records and it does the business, returning .T.. Is there a way of using such a progress bar or similar with a SELECT statement. It is an outer join sql using all the records from the one table so I know the max number of records. However I have no idea how to pass it the first parameter. I was thinking along the lines of: SELECT ... INTO CURSOR <filename> WHERE PROGRESS(param1,param2) The particular sql could take 20-30 secs and a simple WAIT WINDOW NOWAIT seems inadequate.     - App does not detect newly added record Hi, Just fishing for ideas here. I have two apps which 'talk to' each other. Idea is that app1 is the UI, and allows users to submit a job request to a table. App2 is server based and looks at the table via a timer - if it finds a new job request, it processes it, then looks out for the next one. Problem I have is that app2 won't pick up a new job request if the job queue table has a job added after it's been empty. If you restart it, it picks up no problem, if it adds its own occasional job it works fine, and if there's say 4 jobs in the queue after a restart it will process them all. This is a VFP8 app running on Win 2003 Server. I'm guessing this is some multi-user issue. I'm not using the DE - table is opened each time within the timer code, it's definitely the right table, and a COUNT gives zero records. Any help much appreciated. Does anyone know why colors would not appear correctly when running a
program developed using VFP 7.0 through terminal services? For example, I
have a grid which (depending on what data the user is looking at) could be
either dark green, brown, or another shade of green. I only ever develop
using the limited colors offered in VFP's color palette, so it's not like
I'm doing anything outrageous! The dark green on the grid is appearing as
black and as the font's forecolor is black this is obviously causing quite a
problem!!

Help, suggestions, sympathy, what-ever - I'd be grateful to hear from
someone!

Check the color depth in the TS session. If you're running low color (16,
256) it may be remapping the colors for you to match the available palette.
