    - SQL optimization question I have 2 tables with same structure: BIGTABLE ( WORD C(10) ) && 10,0000 RECORDS SMALLTABLE ( WORD C(10) ) && 2 RECORDS both are indexed on WORD. SMALLTABLE has 2 recs: "CAT" "DOG" BIGTABLE has numerous 'words' including those found in SMALLTABLE the following in fully optmized: SELECT WORD FROM BIGTABLE INTO CURSOR TEMP WHERE WORD IN ("CAT","DOG") the folloinw is not optmized at all: SELECT WORD FROM BIGTABLE INTO CURSOR TEMP WHERE WORD IN ( SELECT WORD FROM SMALLTABLE ) Why is the 2nd example not optmized?     - Visual Foxpro version 8 with Chinese Star I used Chinese Star XP to do chinese character intput in a textbox in development enviroment with Windows XP OS. It functioning OK. After I compile the program into EXE file and run the EXE program, It not allow me to input the chinese character. It just do nothing in the textbox. I has been check and set all the setting may happen in the Regional and Language Option but still cannot work. Is that something miss or any other setting has to be done on Window XP.     - WinFax I am currently using a Visual FoxPro program to load a daily batch of outgoing faxes into WinFaxPro version 10.0. Sometimes the process of sending the faxes to WinFax stalls. Sometimes WinFax shows that the fax wasn't sent successfully when it really was. So the fax is resent which annoys the recipient. Here's the question: Is there a more reliable tool than WinFax that I can use to send faxes in VFP?     - Visual Fox and routing table Hi IÂ´ve been looking averywhere for something like this I donÂ´t know how to manipulate the routing table using Visual Foxpro.     - Exclusive Open Table Problem Hello - I'm having a strange problem where I can't seem to open a table for exclusive use just a few procedures after my program starts up. I get an Access Denied error. But, I've checked and the table does not appear to be opened any where else. If I do a MessageBox("test") right before I try and open the table for exclusive use it will work. If I don't issue the MessageBox then it won't work. I've tried a FLUSH command but that doesn't help. I can open it for shared use with no problem at all.     - calendar (mscal.ocx) I used the active x calendar in a project. I installed it using Installshield and it went well. My problem is when I run the exe in Win2000 workstation. As soon as I run the form that has the calendar, it would pop a screen as if it is trying to reinstall/repair the project installation.     - Converted Forms Disappear I have read a couple of replies on the NG about the forms disappearing when the mouse is moved over the form. The replies were as follows: problem with converted forms running on Windows XP with themes enabled. To prevent this behavior, simply add this code to readactivate() event for the converted form to prevent the read controls from disappearing under XP when themes are enabled: this.Forms(1).lockscreen = .T. this.Forms(1).lockscreen = .F. Additionally, this lockscreen trick also works to prevent the controls from READ code,. Just toggle _screen.activeform.lockscreen just before the READ command. A final options is to disable themes using the SYS(2700) function. I read the replies about the converted forms to VFP8. I am having the same problem when anyone moves the mouse over the form it disappears. When the mouse is moved off of the form it comes back. I have sent my program out to 100 users with no problem for the last 5 years until now. This did not happen until I went to VFP8. The program ran fine from FPW2.6 to VFP6 but when I went to VFP8 this problem popped up on two machines so far. They have both been Toshiba portables. Do I have to put this in every form that has been converted to VFP8? I have tried the sys(2700) and checked if the themes are off or on and it always comes back off. I also went into the XP to find out how to shut off the themes but cannot find out how to do that. There is a way to change themes but how do you shut it off. Can you explain how to put the lockscreen in the form?? I just edited the form, went to the readactive() and typed in this.format(1).lockscreen=.T. and then .F. Maybe I should rewrite all the converted screens using VFP8. I have 60 forms that I have converted to VFP8. I am thinking of scrapping VFP8 and going back to VFP6. Is it possible to just edit the converted form and do a select all and copy. Then create a new form and do a paste to the new form to make it a VFP8 form??     - Corrupted header or .... I've inherited a table that has, at the very least, a corrupted header (ie "Not a table" error). On further investigation, the header appears to have been rewritten in some way. The first 3 bytes contain the letters "AFS" and somewhere in the middle there appears to be a list of long field names, some other undecipherable data, and their 10 character limit equivalents. Possibly this stuff is the result of some security scheme and/or the efforts of a data dictionary, but, whatever it is, I don't recognize it.     - Need advanced CREATE VIEW Hi, I've been running into some race conditions. I thought I could solve them with an error routine triggered by a failed FLOCK or RLOCK. The error routine would save the current file state with a CREATE VIEW and close all files to allow the other user(s) to complete their tasks and then restore the view and continue with normal program execution. The problem is that CREATE VIEW doesn't save the record pointers. I thought I could circumvent this by saving RECNO(i) in an array and then restoring. But I ran into problems. The major problem is that you can't simply GOTO the saved record number in each table when there are relations involved. You have to go to the record number in the master table first and then to each child table. If there is more than one level of relations, you have to work down the relation tree. I realize I could write code for each specific instance where a RLOCK or FLOCK was used to save that particular state, but that would be crude and time consuming.     - Grids, add a combo box with set values Having similar problem to another post but see no resolution in the replies that actually work. Maybe I'm not doing it correctly.     - XP and NT4 speed issues I understand there is an issue with XP workstations on an NT4 server which slows down VFP apps. I am told it is to do with NT4 trying to do its own locking in addition to or competing with VFP locking. I am also told there is a way to turn this off in NT4. Is this correct?     - errors when upgrading from VFP 6.0 to VFP 8.0 Has anyone had experience resolving the following two errors when upgrading your applications to VFP 8.0? 1) Error Number 2034: Date/datetime evaluated to an invalid value. This error happens at seemingly random times - and when trying to repeat the error using the same user/application/steps/data/PC, it is often not repeatable. We do not change the SET DATE setting from the default value (I have seen other postings where that was suggested as a potential cause). Is there anything that might correct this problem (SET STRICTDATE, etc.) ? 2) Error Number 2066: Index file "DBF FILE PATH/NAME" is corrupted. Please rebuild it. As with 1), this error seems to occur at random times and generally is not repeatable. We have a VFP 6.0 application and database that we are planning to upgrade to VFP 8.0 We use two builds of the application that are running in parallel (one in 6.0 and one in 8.0). The tables are reindexed nightly in VFP 6.0 In the VFP 8.0 version only, we have SET ENGINEBEHAVIOR 70 and SET TABLEVALIDATE TO 0 - the two builds are otherwise identical (the same source code).     - Controls being refreshed twice! I have been battling for a long time now to work out why controls on my form get refreshed 2, 3 even 4 times when the form is refreshed. All this refreshing is unnecessarily slowing down my system and the form in question is a very complex one with hundreds of controls. My form is based on a class. In the Refresh method of the form, I have some form specific code and then I include a DODEFAUT() to run the refresh method of the base class. I have discovered that doing this causes all controls to be refreshed twice. In my case it is even worse as I have multiple levels of class. I would have thought that calling the dodefault of the refresh method would just run the refresh code, not rerefresh the form.     - VFP 7 SP1 very slow on an NT4 network We have a VFP7 SP1 application running on a Lan. All users of XP or Windows 2003 Server run very slowly, whereas Win 98 and Win2K workstations are much better. By slowly, I mean it hangs for long periods of time becoming almost unusable.     - CursorAdapter.CursorSchema limited to 255 I am trying to get some experience with using the new CursorAdapter in VFP 8.0. I set DataType to NATIVE and try to create a cursor with all fields from the table. BuyCo.* It fills in the schema with a length over 255 and it will not let me go on. It will let me leave it blank. It won't accept .NULL. as a value. This is on a form with many textboxes that are filled by the fields of the table. Can I use the builder to create the CursorAdapter? Hi:

You can use SYS(0) to get the current user. However, this will not give
you information about their rights.

There is a tool called Loginsystem on Universalthread.com. I would look at
this tool. Go to www.universalthread.com, click on the VFP Zone icon, and
choose Downloads icon. In the ID text box of the query page, search for
"9402."
