    - mimimize to systray I have developed a spam blocking program in vfp8. Works with MS Outlook. But I want to be able to mimimze the foxpro top-level form to an icon on the system tray (on the right where the time is displayed). I've found out how to call Shell_NotifyIcon in the API to create or remove an icon, but I have no idea how to get rid of the standard application tab on the task bar when the app is running and also, more importantly, having got the icon to appear I cant find a way of hooking any foxpro code to it so that a click on the icon will make my application re-appear.     - 'intersection' SQL I have created a table ( word c(10), page n(5) ) thats contains all the words in a book and the page number. I have an index on 'word'. I have picked 3 words: w1="world" w2='health" w3="manager" I need a SQL command that will return a result table (page n5) of all the pages that contains ALL of the 3 words. (fully optimized is my goal). (my current solution starts by 'select'ing out 3 tables with the intermediate 'page' number tables, but this is not very efficient.)     - SQLEXEC is impatient Hello I am using VFP 7 to talk to a product called Quickfill, which is accessible thru its own ODBC drivers and uses a backend called (I believe) DBVista. I'm having pretty good success, but a few odd things. When I run the code below, it returns a -1 on SQLEXEC with the message "Connectivity error. Unable to retrieve specific information. The driver is probably our of resources" - then it plows ahead and retrieves the results. As you can se I tried all sorts of SQLSetProp settings to make the thing wait before going -1 on me, but to no avail. Note that the lock manager and databases for this product are on a high-end server, oon which I'm also running this program, so there should not be bandwidth issues. The delay is slight - a few seconds - but enough so that I get th -1 and thus have no way to trap legitimate errors.     - Why do I always get the strange errors? I'm telling you, I always find the strange ones. I have a form on which customers can be added and maintained. One tab of the form is for maintaining ship to addresses. Seems to work like a champ. Except when the form is resized larger than its design size. The buttons (add ship to, edit ship to, delete ship to) move appropriately as the form is resized, yet if they are clicked on, they don't respond to the clicks. If the form is resized just a little (a half inch, maybe), they seem to respond. But if you resize it much more than that, they don't. The weird thing is that you can resize to a point where the add and edit buttons don't respond, but the delete does. Then if you resize it a little bigger, even the delete will stop responding. I was thinking that maybe the grid that shows the ship to addresses was inside a container and it was somehow overlapping the buttons as the form was resized, but that's not the case. The grid and the buttons are inside a container, so that does not seem to be the case. Arrgghh. Unfortunately, this app was written by a former employee so I'm not all that familiar with some of the pieces and it was written in a well known (but IMHO, crappy) framework that drives me crazy. Anybody seen anything like this? I know it's not much to go on.     - Record lock issue I get the following error when I run the seek command Record is in use by another user It is true that the record I am doing a seek on is locked but I am merely trying to move the record pointer to it to see if it is locked. I am not writing to that record with a seek so why do I get this?     - VFP6 Parameterized View Data Persistence My first time working with remote data, connections, and views. A simple form accepts input (user id) that is passed as a filter in the SELECT portion of a CREATE SQL VIEW command. A view is created and a local query against the view retrieves data into a cursor. Since the view is parameterized only one record is available in the cursor (the record that matches the user id). A child form displays the cursor data. Afterward, the cursor is destroyed with the USE command and the parameterized view is eliminated with DELETE VIEW. The process works fine the fist time in a session. The problem is, each successive time in a session that the use inputs data and launches the process, the data from the first time through is persistent. In other words, the first user in a session (user A) inputs their id and gets back their information (Data A) as intended. All subsequent users in a session enter their id (user X) and get back the original user's information (Data A). Sleuthing reveals that the .TMP file created for the local cursor has the same name each time a user launches the process. I would normally expect .TMP file names to be randomly generated each time a cursor is created. I have confirmed that the .TMP file is deleted from the drive each time the cursor is cleared. But the next cursor creates the same .TMP file name. Using INDBC() I have also confirmed that the parameterized view is deleted each time the process completes. I also confirmed that a different parameter (user ID) is passed in the SELECT portion of subsequent CREATE SQL VIEW command iterations.     - Pack not working Hello, I have a situation where in VFP8 I build the app. and run a form and the click event code of the cancel button does the following: SELECT classes SET DELETED off SET EXCLUSIVE on browse DELETE browse PACK browse SELECT ids replace ids.nextid WITH lnId thisform.release When run from the app I see that the delete marks the record and the browse after the PACK still shows the record as just deleted.     - Really old versions of FoxPro A cry for help! I've just been contacted by a potential new client. Said client is = running a legacy system built with a "really old" version of FP -- I'm = assuming something along the lines of v2.5 (ish). I've got no problems = with helping this person -- I spent 2 or 3 years working with FP full = time in the early/mid nineties. I think I can handle it, although I may = be a bit rusty <grin>. She can't find anyone else who's even seen these = early versions.     - Building applications to access data over the internet I know this has been asked before, but the answers aren't exactly what I'm looking for. I have built an application to run on individual PCs. I, however, would like to store the data in a central location (ie. a web server or at a dedicated IP adress.) I do not want to build a Web based application where I need to use a browser. I have looked at West Winds and Foxweb. Nothing wrong with them, but they both seem to be Web application (maybe I just haven't gotten deep enough into it.) Citrix seems to be far too expensive for what I'm doing. Any ideas are welcome.     - Stuck in a Listbox purgatory, help? I am still new to fox but this is killing me: I am trying to select a field in the first listbox to query and create a new cursor which is the record source for list2. My cursor is created perfectly everytime but I cannot get list2 to display the changes properly. Here is the wierd thing to me. List2 will refresh on the first time and then every third time but other than that it just sits 'blank'. If I move list2 to a seperate form then it works. I have two list boxes on a form, list1 and list2. List one has a record source of C_table1.pk, desc, name.     - Grid and grid.refresh Here is an interesting issue. I have a grid. I log transactions to the grid. I do a grid.refresh after each record addition so that the grid refreshes. This works well, except when traffic is heavy, cpu usage is very high due to the grid.refresh being done 5 or 10 times a second, and the form controls can become unresponsive, and incoming transactions can become queued up. If I disable the grid.refresh, cpu is 5% and incoming transactions don't get queued, all is well - except the grid does not get refreshed. So I came up with a method that only refreshes the grid once or twice a second to prevent excessive cpu usage. This works quite well except for one issue. This is the tricky part. If you add one record and do a grid.refresh, the record you just added appears at the bottom of the visible grid. If you add more then one record and do a grid refresh, the last record you added appears in the middle of the visible grid, and the display of records jumps up accordingly. The next record appears underneath this, the next under that, and so on until it gets to the bottom of the visible grid. Then it jumps up again. I have a form I can post if anyone wants to see an example. Question - how can I add more then one record at a time and do a grid.refresh AND have the last record appear at the bottom of the visible grid?     - Another cursoradapter question I'm trying to use a native cursoradapter instead of a local view so that the retrieval of data is the same no matter what the backend is. The problem is when I call the cursorfill method, a browse appears of the cursor. Press a key and the browse disappears and my form loads. This doesn't happen when I call cursorfill for an ODBC cursoradapter. Does anyone know how to suppress this browse? I can't see any obvious properties to set. Thanks.     - DateTIme I am writing a payroll application and i would like to store the in and out punches in character form, such as "0530" representing 5:30AM. OR, store the punch in datetime() format, but i am having trouble determining lapsed time. Does FPW80 have time functions that save converting the data to do the math and then convert back to time.     - program halt I have developed an program and compiled in an exe file. The program runs normally but it halt after some period. I cannot reproduce the situation consistently, but I can reproduce the situation by openning and closing some forms repeatly. I noticed that the mem usage in Task Manager will raise from 15K (begin) to around 30+k and the cpu usage will raise to 50. The program halts. However, Task Manager indicate the program is running. If i do the same thing via the blat dll, sending an email works well, installing the server fires fox with using the -install parameter.     - Multi Language support for VFP7 application Hi all, I have been trying to figure out from the help files how to be able to view and enter data in Chinese into a vfp7 environment. I have installed Traditional Chinese on my W2K machine I put CODEPAGE=936 in my config.fpw I've set the font to some various Chinese ones in the FoxPro editor and all I get is a ? whenever I try to enter a Chinese character (which are all doublebyte) I've even set my default windows language to Chinese and that doesn't help! How the hell do I get this to work???? I'm just trying this in a VFP7 environment to start with, before I try and include it in any apps! Any pointers would be great. Also can someone poke the VFP team at microsoft in the eye for not detailing this in the help files. They go on for ages about supporting it but not actually how to do it.
