    - messagebox with timeout weirdness Do this: MESSAGEBOX('message',16,'title',100000) Which causes a messagebox to be displayed with a 100 second timeout. Look at your taskbar, notice the extra icon on it. It has a fox icon, and it's caption is the title of your messagebox. Now click on the VFP desktop wihle the messagebox is still displayed. Notice that the messagebox is no longer visible because it is now behind VFP. You can't do anything in VFP while the messagebox is active - but you can't see the messagebox either. So, my question - how can I use messagebox with a timeout and prevent it from being hidden by my app? If you don't use the timeout parameter, it works as expected. If you use the timeout parameter, it can be hidden by the app, the user does not see it, their app is non- responsive, and the next thing you know you have data losses because they alt-ctrl-del and killed the app because they didn't notice the message box hiding behind the app. This appears to be how messageboxes have worked since VFP7, but I've never had the need to use the timeout parameter until now.     - Problem printing reports in color I should be most grateful to have help from the experts. VFP8 SP1, Windows XP Pro SP2 I have a series of reports which have various items in color. Preview on screen is perfect with colors appearing correctly. When printing either to printer or PDF the output is always in black and white.     - Another (hopefully simple) VFP 7 report writer question Hello and thank for the help. Also, happy holidays and happy new year to all. In the form designer, for most objects, you have top, left, height, and width. Is there anything similar for the report writer? How do you make small adjustments to a box or line to line it up with other objects in the report. I can easily move the box with the mouse but I can't make small adjustments to its size. I turned off "Snap to Grid" but the adjustments still have to be made with the mouse and it is difficult. Is there any way to numerically specify the width of an object in the report designer? Suppose you are doing an invoice or other form with line items and you want line running down the page... How do you get the lines to go all the way down the page?     - Class not registered error I have a form containing an activex control. The form was created on another system. If I rebuild my application on my current system all works fine however if I edit and save the form on this systemthen attempt to re-edit the form I get an error: OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered. OLE object is being ignored. The control is then seemingly stripped from the form. The OCX in question is present on my current system and has been registered via regsvr32. When I attempt to add the activex control via the toolbox OLE control item, the control is listed in the list of available controls but when I select it to add I get the OLE error code 0x80040154: Class not registered error again. What do I need to do to make the control registered so that VFP will allow me to use it.     - Making a form appear docked I have a form which I would like to anchor to the left hand edge of the screen and appear as if it's been docked without the user being able to do any 'docking' functions....i.e. I don't want them to be able to undock it or move it's position. I've managed this by turning the titlebar off, setting the left position and altering the height of the form when the main screen size is resized. All of that works OK and I'm happy with how the form appears on screen. The problem is - because it is not 'really' docked and only appearing to be so, when I minimise forms or maximise a form the left hand edge of the window goes behind my toolbar. I'd like to do one of two things: 1. Ideally dock the form to the left hand edge of the screen and then stop the use moving the window or undocking it....(preferably disabling the title bar) or 2. Know how to resize a form to the internal dimensions of the VFP window taking into account the size of the toolbar. I imagine this should be quite simple for standard forms but what about when I run a report to preview? How can I control the print preview window in the same way?     - Copy File Won't Work Hello - I discovered a problem in both VFP 6 and VFP 9 where copy file fails and I'm not sure how to get around it. It seems to fail when there are spaces before the filename. Suppose you have a file in any directory called test.txt (let's say the c:\junk folder as an example). Try this: 1. Click Start, Run and type CMD and click OK and then type CD\JUNK 2. Type Rename test.txt " test.txt" this puts spaces before the filename which you cannot do from windows explorer but you can do at the command prompt. 3. Go into VFP and from the command prompt type the following: m.lcFile = "c:\junk\test.txt" ? file(m.lcFile) && returns TRUE m.lcFile2 = "c:\junk\test2.txt" copy file (m.lcFile) to (m.lcFile2) && GIVES AN ERROR CANNOT CREATE FILE Most likely no one would have a space or two before a filename but one of my clients did and that is how I discovered this. Is there a way to fix this?     - Domain Name of user Using VFP 9.2 on Windows 2000 or XP workstations. Back end is MS SQL 2000. Some users are on the same domain as the server and so I allow them access with "trusted_user=yes" in the connection string. Others are outside our domain and not in a trusted domain (or any domain) and so I intend to set up SQL Server users and prompt them for userid and password. I'd like to do this with one startup program if possible and so I'm looking for something that will return the domain name. Something on the order of sys(0) which returns the machine name and userid.     - weird select Hi All vfp9 sp1 we have an .scx report form that runs multiple reports by calling a method that; <user choices, error check> <step thru user choices> select ... <where...> ... into cursor result readwrite <some code> <print> <done, cursor report is left open> <end step> the 2nd time thru, the select generates an error, just like the docs say (error 24...alias in use) however, we have other forms that do the same thing with no error !!     - Form Designer at Run Time It seems that in a VFP program I can issue a command like "modify report test" and I can get to the report designer. But, I can't seem to do that with the form designer. It seems like something flashes on the screen but then disappears. So, if I have a VFP program that runs well and has a read events, etc and somewhere in the program I decide to issue a "modify form test" it doesn't seem to work but a "modify report test" will work.     - Single Button Spell Checker My client wants me to add a single button which will spell-check one of the app's reports before printing it (VFP8). He said if it's too much bother ($$$), forget it, but that only makes me more determined <g>. I'm looking for a simple way to output the report in some form which is spell-checkable. Any ideas? I tried REPORT FORM .......... TO FILE <fname> ASCII but the output file's really not in ASCII and I can't open it with his word processor (WordPerfect). Years ago, I wrote macros in WP which merge data from a .dbf, but this particular report conatins a list of items which could be any length, so I'm not sure if I can take that approach. Another approach I thought of might be to output the list to a text file instead of a "REPORT". The problem here, I think, is the font has to be in Arial bold. Not sure how/if I can do that. The application returns an error 1429 IDispatch code 0 error before you can "allow" the application to send the e-mail. This results in that instance of the send not working. If you allow the send you are able to send e-mails without incident until you do another version upgrade then the cycle begins again. Research on the net indicates that live onecare will prompt for the user to allow an application to send e-mail if the application is not digitally signed. When I first wrote the query, vfp showed me a cursor with 4 decimal places in the rates col .. which isn't enough for my users, so I redid the query using cast( <calc> as N(10,6)). apparently not since my app can't find it when installed on Vista. Where can
I get an official copy of this thing to include in my installs? I am
reluctant to just grab the one out of my system32 directory.
