    - Windows form design guide - where? Isn't there a document (I think by Microsoft) that discusses guidelines to be followed when designing forms? Some sort of windows design guidelines? We have a person that likes to change the default colors of controls, and he sometimes comes up with some nasty color combinations. I believe that default colors should be left alone, and the document I'm looking for discusses the rationale behind this a well as other standards to follow when designing forms.     - Foxpro and Open Files and Backup and Win 2000 Server Hello - I have a client who has problems with backup because files from my VFP application remain open even after users exit the application. He has made sure that all workstations have exited my application and yet the server still shows that files are open. He is blaming my application. I say it is the responsibility of the server or workstation to properly close out files when users exit my application. I have noticed that when a workstation is accidentally reset or when it freezes some servers will keep files open (like phantom files). Why doesn't the server close these files? I have heard there is a setting in Win 2000 that may be applied so that if a workstation is reset or logs off - all related files are closed.     - Printer error to a HP PSC 950 from FPw 2.6 application on 98 I keep getting an error when trying to print from a FPW 2.6 application to a HP PSC 950. This printer is an inkjet printer and I'm sending a 100 page document. I'm 99% sure it is error #125, printer not ready. The machine is running Windows 98. Any ideas about what to do here.     - Microsoft Access and Remote Access Views Hello - I'm trying to read an Access database into VFP so that I can convert it to VFP. I start by specifying the connection as Microsoft Access and enter the database name. I'm leaving the UserID and Password blank. From the project manager I then click the New button for a new remote view and select the connection I created. It then asks me to select a database name. I'm not sure why it asks me this since I already specified the database name in the connection. Then it shows me the tables in the database and when I select one I get the error: Connectivity Error: Microsoft ODBC Microsoft Access Driver Record(s) annote be read; no read permission on 'Current' All help appreciated, Thanks.     - Are Report Commands Modal? Thanks in advance for any replies. Is the REPORT command modal when it is issued without NOWAIT modal? What I mean is if I have the following code: 1. SELECT CLIENTS 2. SCAN 3. SELECT * FROM INVOICES WHERE CLIENTNUM = CLIENTS.CLIENTNUM INTO CURSOR CLIENTINVOICES 4. SELECT CLIENTINVOICES 5. REPORT FORM INVOICEREPORT TO PRINTER NOCONSOLE 6. SELECT CLIENTS 7. ENDSCAN Does the report finish processing before line 6 is executed? This seems to me to be a basic and obvious question but I have some code that is essentially the same as the code above and sometimes the first report is failing with a "Variable Not Found" error for a variable that is in the query. The other reports are printing correctly. Previously I had this code being called from a form with a private data session and the error occurred every time. I was advised to change the form to use the default data session. At first I thought this had solved the problem but what I've discovered is that the problem still occurs but only about 1 in 10 times instead of every time. Also the code is contained in a PRG that is being called from a menu. When I ran the code with the debugger on it never failed. Also when I ran the code from a button on the form instead of from a menu on the form it didn't fail. If anyone has any clues as to what is going on here I'd appreciate hearing about it.     - Strange situation with AFIELDS() function I am running the AFIELDS function in a class in my program. It works on every situation but one, and it acts very strangely. It will only create the array with 16 columns, this causes a problem because then the 17th and 18th column get put into the row 2 column 1 and 2, and then the next field gets pushed back 2 columns.     - 1a = eof??? Yesterday I have a big problem with a table. The table has 200000 records and a big size 144 Mb. While I was searching in the table (free table) it hang the system a lot of times. At first I think the table was broken and searching with an hexadecimal editor i found (sorprised) a lot of 1a marks (eof mark). Then doing my research i noticed that what is broken was the index but the cdx was not corrupted. I did: USE MYTABLE BROWSE i browse perfectly normal then i set SET ORDER TO MYINDEX and VFP was not responding and I have to press CTRL+ALT+DEL finally I reindex the table and the system started to work. The question is, 1a=eof, because then i open other tables (no more than 10 records) and i found 1a marks at the beginning of the table (it belong to a dbc). What is going on?? Anybody knows??? To speed up complicated select_sql statements we have a little exe that runs on a server which looks for particular files appearing and processes them and creates tables of the results of the sql for the main exe to use.     - Large File access I'm attempting to read a very large text file, 10Gb to be exact, but FoxPro natively only supports 2Gb files with its FOPEN(), FGETS() etc, functions. I need the ability to open the file, read the next line to a variable, and move the pointer anywhere in the file (won't necessarily be reading the file from line1 straight to EOF). When I set the Stretch Attribute of the Picture to "Isometric" or "Stretch" the image does not disply well, it is somewhat distorted, even if the photo size is the same as the picture container size.     - Row Highlighting using a container Object FoxPro allows you to Display multiple rows per record in a grid control by replacing the default text box control with a container object in a one-column grid. The container class I set up contains text boxes with the appropriate data. However I lose the â??the current row highlightâ?? effect. I tried setting â??allowCellSelectionâ?? to .f.., but this also had no effect. I also tried the pre VFP8 method of using â??.SetAll("DynamicBackColor"â?? to emulate row highlighting; with no success.     - Slow view requery I have a parameterized view into a large MySQL table. When I requery the view, control is immediately returned to the command window. The record count for the view slowly increases at the rate of about 200 records a second. Bandwidth consumption is minimal, cpu is minimal. If I check the box the server is running on, I find that cpu on that box is also at a minumum. This looks like something is throttling the query, because everything is running at an idle. How can I: 1) Have control not return until the view is done being requeried 2) Have the system use max cpu/bandwidth instead of just idling along, so that I can get my results faster? I set the free table directory when I connect but I actually have some tables in other directories that I want to access. How can I perform a SELECT on tables from different directories via ODBC?     - VFP8 and mysterious C0000005 error Hello! I'm currently installing a application, made by VFP8 on some W2K PC's. The weird thing is that the program works fine on some machines, but fails with fault c0000005 on others. The application doesn't even start. It crashes just after double-clicking the icon. There is no usefull information in any log to be found. By searching the Internet, suggestions like videodriver, audiodriver, printerdriver et cetera where mentioned.     - SET COLLATE problem Hi, One of application had a auto index feature. It used to work fine. However, recently, when working on displaying chinese character, I change my win2k system to chinese locale. Now, when my VFP5 open any dbf file, my system locale will auto change to chinese, any input into the dbf file will be display as chinese. That is when my application when doing auto indexing will give error of Error number: 1915 Error message: Collating sequence 'PINYIN' is not found. I had tried to set my application COLLATE TO "MACHINE" and use cpzero on my dbf file but all in vain. I had even set my VFP5 collage sequence to MACHINE Pls advise on how to solve the above issue and why. Plus how to change my VFP5 environment to input English insteads of auto input chinese.     - Grid columns and subclasses I know I can drop a base class into a grid column, e.g. a command button, and it's useable in design time, but is there a way to do this if I've subclassed it? I've tried using the class browser (VFP7/8) but it doesn't want to work for me.     - Unusual Report Problem Any help or suggestions appreciated, thanks in advance. I have the following problem with report printing. To keep this post short I'm going to use meta code: Get a List of Clients to Print Reports For (SQL Query) For Each Client Get a list of detail items for report (SQL Query) Report Form xxx to Print NoConsole End For This code is being called from within a form. I first tried putting the code into a user defined method within the form itself. When I started having problems I took the code out of the form and put it into a separate PRG. The problem is as follows: The first time the report is run (for the first client) I get a "Variable Not Found" error from the report itself and the detail lines of the report do not print. Each of the following reports print perfectly. Here's the strange part: If I run the prg from the command window instead of from the form all of the reports print correct or If I run the prg from the form with the debugger on all of the reports print correctly It is only when I run the prg from the form without the debugger that I have a problem One last piece of data on this problems (to add to the strangeness) The form is a top-level form with a menu. When the report code is run from the menu as described above the problem occurs. When I put a button on the form which calls the identical code (the above mentioned prg which is outside the form) it runs perfectly. The button is my temporary work-around for this problem but I would like to be able to get this code to run from the menu. Does anyone have any idea what type of problem I am looking at?     - Creating a new database with copies of old tables Is there a way to create a new database, and copy the tables from another database into this new database with out truncating the field names or any other strange problems? we have a dev db and a live db, when we use ten dev system they db's are linked still back to live ... if we change the database name, we think that it would fix the linking problem, but we need to move the tables into this new db to do that, we think.. does anyone have any idea's? thanks!     - Order by with a union I have a comboBox with an sql statement that has 2 fields in it both of them are shown in the dropdown. I want it to sort by the description (2nd field). My sql statement has a UNION in it so that I can have a blank record for the user to choose from.     - Reports Not Printing Hello All, We created a FoxPro application that ships with about a dozen reports. All of them print correctly most of the time, however one of the reports does not always print. In some cases, only the header prints and nothing else. The strange thing is, it is not limited to a particular hardware configuration. On some machines it always prints. On some machines it never prints. And on some machines it sometimes prints. On the development machine in particular, it prints every time. The report consists of a header with 6 text fields and a detail band with a text field that stretches with content to create paragraphs. It was created in MS VFP 8 SP1.
