I am trying to attend South West Fox conference in Arizona in October, and
one of the sponsors is Sybase. Does anybody have got an experience with
their Advantage Database Server? Does it replace SQL Server? Pros? Cons?

Andy Kramek has blogged about it a bit:

http://weblogs.foxite.com/andykramek/archive/2008/01/05/5530.aspx

and also he mentioned a screen cast by J. D. Mullin:

He's also written about it in FoxRockx (http://www.foxrockx.com).

Is that VFP9 format only? Will it handle 2.6/dos style tables as well?

If you support a table based application whith often changing schema you
still only have the script updating the vfp backend - one area of update
work eliminated. If the reason to move to C/S is more the wish to reduce
network traffic/WAN performance it looks good, but if the aim is higher
security I doubt that it is tested as extensively as SQL server.

Tests planned for such a customer end of year.

Since it's an ODBC driver, you should be able to communicate just fine via
remote views and SQL Pass Through. So yes, VFP6 should work OK.

If you are able to to talk to ODBC with the connectivity kit that was
available for 2.6, then yes. You still won't be able to reference field
types that are not availablel in FPDos.
