    - SQL and Record Locking This is another query concerning converting my app to multi-user. I am using VFP 6 build 8492 (SP 3?). How do you ensure update integrity in *hybrid* xBASE/SQL code? In xBASE, I know more or how to handle the locking, but I do not know how to do it in SQL. Is it just begin/end transaction? How do xBASE and SQL commands interact? Pointers to the docs or even better to Hacker's 3 or Hacker's 6 would be quite appreciated. I think that I would prefer to avoid using a .dbc if I can. Is this viable?     - Remove classes from memory? Tricky problem: I'm creating a framework. One of its components is a form manager class, based on the Custom class. My form manager class has an OpenForm() method. The OpenForm() method can accept a form name and some optional parameters, and it will open the named form, whether it's a .scx requiring "DO FORM..." or a .vcx or .prg class requiring "CREATEOBJECT()". All forms in the framework are based on a form class that contains code in the Init and Destroy methods to register the form with the form manager when the form is created and unregister it when it's destroyed. All of this works great while my program is running. I can create and destroy forms with no problem. And the program shuts down fine, leaving no visible trace. Until... If I run my uncompiled program in the VFP IDE, and my form manager opens a form using CREATEOBJECT(), then after my program shuts down I'll get a "Remove classes from memory?" dialog when I try to open my base form .vcx library in the Project Manager to edit a class. If I run the same program as a compiled .exe, and my form manager opens a form using CREATEOBJECT(), I don't have any problem opening the .vcx afterwards. The only way that I can stop this from happening in the IDE is to issue an explicit CLEAR CLASS [class name] command, for the class that was opened using CREATEOBJECT(), at the very end of the program, just before it shuts down. Obviously, in a production environment this is not good, because I'd have no sane way of knowing which classes had been instantiated with CREATEOBJECT() and I'd have to loop through all the records in all the .vcx files, and parse all the .prg files, to get all the class names and issue CLEAR CLASS for them, before shutting down. Please note the following: 1. This problem does not occur when the framework invokes DO FORM to open a .scx that is based on a .vcx class. 2. This problem occurs whether the class being instantiated is in a .vcx or .prg file, and whether it's based on my base form class or a subclass of that class. It is not dependent on any particular class; it occurs for any use of CREATEOBJECT() to open a form. 3. I've tried SET CLASSLIB TO and SET PROCEDURE TO at the end of my program and this doesn't solve the problem. SET("CLASSLIB") and SET("PROCEDURE") both return an empty string, but the problem doesn't go away. 4. RELEASE ALL at the end of the program doesn't help either. On the other hand, RELEASE ALL doesn't actually seem to release all--the handful of PUBLIC variables that my main program sets up are still there in a DISPLAY MEMORY even after issuing RELEASE ALL. 5. CLEAR MEMORY also doesn't do it. 6. Issuing CLEAR CLASS [class name] from the Destroy() or Unload() method of the problematic class does not work. It doesn't cause an error, but it doesn't CLEAR the CLASS either. For the CLEAR CLASS to work, it has to be issued at the very end of the program. 7. My form manager STOREs .NULL. to all form reference variables when the forms are destroyed. 8. And the program shuts down fine--nothing left in the Task List, and the class library that contains the form manager class can be opened with no problem after shutdown. To me, this implies that there are no dangling object references. I think CLEAR ALL would solve the problem (it does in the Command window), but I can't issue CLEAR ALL anywhere inside my program, not even as the second-to-last line, just before QUIT. If I do, then, due to VFP's perplexing event sequence (which doesn't actually release objects at the moment when their Release() methods are called or when a RELEASE command is issued, nor does it actually destroy objects at the time when their Destroy events occur), something or other that is dependent on some memory variable can't actually finish releasing, and I get a cascading series of errors. (Yes, I've read the help on that. Since my program works fine as long as I don't issue CLEAR ALL, do I really need to care about this? Should I really have to expect to issue CLEAR ALL in order to ensure that what SET CLASSLIB TO is supposed to do actually gets done?) I've deliberately kept a lot of detail out of this post. I CANNOT reproduce this problem in a simple scenario outside of my framework, which leads me to believe I've made a mistake somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me. On the other hand, since the problem doesn't occur in a compiled .exe, do I really have anything to worry about? I'd be glad to post more code--even the whole project in a zip file--if someone would like to take a look at it. I'd appreciate the benefit of your experience. Thanks in advance.     - Dymo Labels Problem Hello Everyone, I've created few labels in different formats in VFP6.0 under WIN 2000. After upgrading to Win XP and to VFP7.0 all my labels don't work. All of them appear on size of Address label 30252. I am changing size of the label to 30334 or 30333, saving and closing it. But when I am openning it label size comes back to Address label 30252.     - one-to-many form..... need more than 2 tables Hi, When I create a one to many form it allows only 2 tables in designer mode. I add a third table and grid to link to the parent table creating the relationship. It displays and goes through the data correctly until I try to add a record. The add function only acknowledges the grid & table created using the wizard. Also any way to stop it asking the question of parent or child and always just allowing both? Any help appreciated..     - Moving VFP6 app to VFP7 Hi all, I'm trying to compile a project that was originally built in VFP6 in VFP7. About the time it would normally be done, I get a "Compile Error in C:\MyPath\MyFile.app". I've converted the menus to 7.0 format. Any other ideas as to where to look?     - =?iso-8859-1?Q?Error_reading_file=22_error__number_1104?= I've been getting an "Error reading file" error number 1104 on workstations running windows XP PRO. It happens intermittently, but when it happened it usually does upon execution of the calculate command. The other day I got the message when I issued a seek() on a table. The applications is running on a network with Windows 2000 server with service pack 1. The other workstations are Windows 2000 service pack 3 and don't seem to have this problem. I wonder if this is Windows XP problem or if I should switch to a different type of file sharing schema. Since only a few users access the system at any one time I currently use the following settings: SET MUTILOCKS ON SET REPROCESS TO Perhaps I should switch to a table buffering system.     - Replacing tables in a database Because a client does not have a copy of VFP, I emailed myself a table which needs to be reindexed. (Adding a reindexing function to their software is high on the list!) If I open these tables at my office, reindex them, then simply overwrite the tables at the client's site, will the database container somehow be offended? :) Or will it relatively seemlessly reintegrate these files into the container even though the files themselves were last opened outside the container?     - Unwanted classes and files. I have a project under construction which uses a base class and a second class, for the project only, based on the base class. The base class is common for several apps. There are various forms based on the second class. I find that, when I build the app, it includes an old class which has no relevance (and is in a different folder) and some old forms based on the old class which also are unwanted. I have checked everything I can think of for reference to those and can find nothing. Nevertheless, when I remove them from the project and build it again, they reappear.     - Command line parameter opening a databse I have two programs and I need program A to call program B. Program B will then open the same database that program A is using. To do this I implemented a command line parameter in program B that will open the same database. If I try to run program B from say run in the start menu and put the name of a database for the parameter everything runs fine. But if I try to run it from program A I get an error. The code is RUN /N B.exe "c:\Database\database.dbc" Note that this is an example, the database will actually be a string variable When I try to call an Open Database on the parameter, it does not open and then I get an error when I try to do something saying "No Database is open or set as the current database." VFP7 automatically sets the value of the accName, accValue properties etc. As our form textboxes are named "txtSurname" (for example) vfp7 assigns the IAccessible property accName for that object as "txtSurname" which the screen reader speaks to the user. We would like to keep txtSurname as the object name in VFP but somehow set the IAccessible accName property to "Surname of client" (for example). Has anyone had any experience with this? The MSAA SDK looks a little daunting to me as all the doco seems to show things using C structures, definitions etc. I understand I'll probably have to use olcacc.dll to do this.     - Large tables - changing the strcuture.... it all crashes! Hi I have had a problem that has occurred with two different but large FoxPro tables. They both have around 0.37million rows. One takes up around 350Mb of space the other ~200Mb. Both tables have between 30 to 50 fields. One or two of the fields may be > chr(100). Remaining fields are int, date and smaller chrs. There is around 80Gb left on my 120Gb HDD. When I do anything to alter the structure of the tables, or delete a record and pack the tables, the operation seems to work fine till after about one third/half way through the process. Then FoxPro stops or jams! Nothing recovers the situation apart from switching the PC of at the power button. I can not kill the process or most any other apps in task manager. I can only think that there is a problem changing the structure or deleting and packing recs in large & wide tables. I am running VFP 6 on XP Home.     - VFP7 Bug I keep getting an error on VFP7. I have created a method in a formset called qfPricing and it takes 2 parameters. When I try to call this method by typing THISFORMSET.qfpricing(parameter1,parameter2), it will error on me as soon as I type in the left "(" the error is: Fatal error: Exception code=C0000005 @ 07/17/03 09:00:36 AM.     - FPW2.6 and RUN oddity Hello, I am needing to upload data to a secure website from FPW2.6 I have downloaded curl which is a command line tool that can be used to do this, fought my way through the documentation and examples and pretty much got it going how I want. Now I come to integrate it into Foxpro and I see an unusual error, if I issue RUN curl.exe then I just see a message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode" on my (win95) computer. I have checked the foxrun.pif and it is pointing at "command.com" If I go to start->run and type "command.com" and then "curl.exe" then it runs fine! To add insult to injury, it works OK on a 2k machine in a NTVDM box from Fox. Does anyone have any idea what is upsetting it? I have a feeling it is working with the /N switch but it closes too fast to see and I very definately DO want foxpro to wait until this command is processed. They each (VisualUML Foxpro interface & Micrsoft/Rose) seem to generate OLE error codes when I try to run them, inside or outside of VFP. I get the selection screen where I can choose code generation or reverse engineering but when I press Run it gives me nasty OLE errors. Eg. Trying to run visual modeller from MS site.     - [OT]: How to prolong & maintain notebook's battery life? Hi all, First of all; sorry this is off topic. I feel that I relate more with people on this community than with anybody elsewhere. When I bought my laptop, the battery could last for three hours. Lately the battery life is shorten. About three months ago, the battery last for about 2 and a-half hours. And then two hours. And now, even if I have 100% battery power, it will only last for about 1 and a-half hours. The time shown by the Power Applet (x% remaining followed by the approximate time) is about the same as the real time (counted manually with stopwatch). Unsurprisingly, the charge time to get to 100% is also reduced! Seems like there are some battery cells (?) that's not in used at all. This last few days I tried to reduce several programs that run on the background while using battery power, but that doesn't help much. I also lower the screen brightness and turn off sound -- but again that doesn't help much. Most of the time I use my laptop for developing software (w/ VFP7 or VFP8 IDE), typing on MS Word or designing database with SQL Server Enterprise Manager. The laptop is Compaq 1700 running on PIII 1.13GHz with 256MB SDRAM. The battery is a Lithium-On with 4.0 AHr capacity running on 14.4 Volt. Question: 1. Anybody knows how to 'revive' my battery (besides buying a new one obviously!) 2. Got any idea about how to maintain (and prolong) battery life? Is this VFP 3.0 or 3.0b?
VFP 3.0 has a limitation of 512 MB, and 3.0b has a limitation of 768 MB =
of RAM. See =

Note: Since it's unlikely you'll find an copy of 3.0b in case you aren't =
using it, upgrading to ANY other version of VFP will eliminate this =
problem. VFP 8.0 is the current release and it's much more stable than =
3.0 and it has many improvements - especially for the developer.
