 - Preview COM DLL problem I have got a COM DLL (written in VB) to enable me to preview the Text Control word processor components from within vfp. The preview.dll is stored in c:\printpreview and I have registered it successfully with regsvr32.exe c:\printpreview\preview.dll My vfp project is stored in M:\SAMPLE with the forms in M:\SAMPLE\FORMS In the form I have put the two lines in the click method of a commandbutton: lopreview = createobject("preview.txtpreview") lopreview.display(thisform.txtcontrol1) and it fails with the error 'class definition not found'. This is the first time I have tried to do anything with DLLs so I am sure I have missed something fairly basic. Can anybody help please?  - Does a method exist? How can I tell whether a method exists in an object? I have a process that is passed a form as a variable and I want to run a particular method if it exists on the form. Running TYPE("MyForm.MyMethod") return "U" even if the method exists. I could probably just instantiate the method and handle the erorr if it doesnt exist but there must be a more elegant way?  - VFP7: Better way to Edit:Update/Delete Transaction Records How I do it now : At the moment I copy the selected record to the temp/cursor file and after the user delete or update the record, I will delete all the selected records in the transaction file and append all the record from temp/cursor again. I have found it's a very stupid and no efficiency way to do it in VFP.Is there any better solution for me to do it? I am using free table for the program. Sorry for my english. Maybe I can use following example to make it more clear Transaction file (Sales.DBF) InvNo InvDate InvAcno InvQty InvPrice InvAmt When user press "Edit/Delete" button (I will copy the selected record to temp/cursor file) e.g. InvNo. IV10001 (total records are 5 for this InvNo.) copied to temp/cursor named "tmptrans" When use press "Save" button (I will delete all the selected record in Sales.DBF and appen from temp/cursor file again) e.g. Select Sales.DBF Delete for InvNo="IV1001" Appen from tmptrans (Only 4 records added coz 1 record deleted in temp/cursor by user) Thanks for any input.  - Invisible button issue Here is a bit of an off-the-wall problem. I have an app converted from FPW to VFP. In FPW, if you set focus to an invisible button and press Enter, it fires the buttons valid code. In VFP, it gets weird: Condition one. The form has been run and focus has NOT been set to a non-invisible button. Set focus to invisible button, press Enter. Button click method fires, focus goes to next object. Contition two. The form has been run and focus HAS been set to a non-invisible button. Set focus to invisible button, press Enter. The cliick method of the Visible button you last set focus to fires - specifically, focus goes to the last visible button you set focus to, and fires the click method of that button. So - has anyone had any experience in this area? I would like the click method of the invisible button to fire when I set focus to it and press the Enter key.  - GDIPLUS not working within mtdll com server Has anyone managed to get any class within _gdiplus.vcx to work within a MTDLL. I have done a short test program that works fine from the command line but if you then build a MTDLL around it then it no longer works. I have been running filemon.exe to check what is going on and where gdiplus.dll is being loaded from the problem seems to be in that direction. Fox command line seems to use gdiplus.dll from the Microsoft Shared/FVP dir. However when running from the MTDLL it seems to access mtdll from C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.GdiPlus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.0.2600.2180_x-ww_522f9f82. I've include the sample program below. To test it: 1) Make sure you have a jpg in c:\windows\web\wallpaper\azul.jpg (xp) 2) Copy to code below to test.prg 3) run test.prg 4) MODIFY COMMAND c:\gditest.txt Notice imageheight is displayed Test as MTDLL Create a project called test, add test.prg Build as MTDLL To test call from fox command line: lo = CREATEOBJECT("test.testgdi") ?lo.gdifunc() MODIFY COMMAND c:\gditest.txt Notice imageheight is NOT displayed Anyone have any ideas?? I have a form with a pageframe control, 8 pages, lots of other controls, etc. Sometimes I want the form to be readonly sometimes not. If will know this depending on the parameter I get in the init method. I think I know what code to write but I'm fuzzy on the details. It would meta-code to: For each control on the form If the control has a readonly property set it to the desired value endif next I would also be open to any easier way of doing this. I can't remember how to go through the controls on a form in code (The for statement). I don't think I've ever know how to check if a readonly property exists. I have defined properties in the form to hold the scope variables needed for the reports and use them as the control source for the various text & combo boxes. I use the same variables for for several reports so I don't want to define public variables since they could be used by more than one instance of the form and private variables declared in the form will not be visible to the report object. Problems arise when I use the "procedure" result option on the reports menu to launch the form. I use the procedure option to set some global flags that define the forms layout options and the report to run. Each change is no more than a handful of fields in one or two records, but as the tables grow, I'm starting to get complaints about slowness. In a file server system like this, does each user have to read and write an entire multi-megabyte table every time they make a small change? Or does the file server and/or network do some buffering and change management for me? In general, when is it time to consider switching to client-server?  - Can I SET ORDER to a different tag in related table I have a grid that uses two tables, let's say, Customer and Orders. The Orders tables is indexed by two fields, Customer ID and Order Date Descending. Customer table has a relation set to Order table on Customer ID feild. I want to retrieve all the orders for a customer and display them in the grid in descending Order Date order. I have tried setting the order of the cursor in Data Environment but it seems to be ignored, I think because of the relation.  - Outlook Global Address List I would like to be able to extract e-mail names and addresses from a Global Address List. The client has exchange server and microsoft outlook as the client. I have used a code sample from news2news.com/vfp/?example=407&function=33 that was useful insofar as it let me pull addresses from both the Global Address List as well as the contacts folder.  - A Bug in VFP 9.0? - Error: 1808 Hi Guys I have encountered a problem when upgrading several projects from VFP 8 up to VFP 9. The code has not been changed in any way but we are now getting Error 1808 - SQL: ORDER BY clause is invalid (Error 1808) The help on this error is as follows: <help> Visual FoxPro 9.0 SQL: ORDER BY clause is invalid (Error 1808) One of the fields chosen for the ORDER BY clause is not in the SELECT list. This occurs only when using numeric indexing as in the following example where the number chosen exceeds the number of fields selected: SELECT a,b,c FROM table ORDER BY 4 This error will also be generated if you include a Blob type field in the ORDER BY clause. </help> Now I have never used numeric indexing as it poses too much of a headache if you ever want to change the fields you are selecting so I always reference Order_Item by the column name. So I am at a loss as to why this error is occuring. After playing around a little I have worked out what is happening and it may be that Microsoft have closed a loophole with their naming convention. It would seem that where you have a column which is calculated on the fly from a source table, you cannot give the newly created column the same name as the field it is derived from. To recreate this problem all you need to do is: 1. Create a free table called Table 1 and give it one field called Firstname which is of Character type and 10 chars long 2. Populate the table with a few rows 3. Run this query which works ok: SELECT distinct PADR(firstname,30) as fname FROM table1 ORDER BY fname 4. Run this query which fails: SELECT distinct PADR(firstname,30) as firstname FROM table1 ORDER BY firstname Obviously if I had not been lazy in my naming convention then this problem would not occur - but clearly VFP9 has been changed in some way to cause this error in pre-existing code.  - VFP7 application booted out - DDE causing it? I posted the following a few days ago- At one of our customer sites, they are having frequent problems of being booted out of our VFP7 application after it has been minimised for a while. They are also running a GIS application (ArcView). The 2 applications actually communicate with each other using DDE services. It is happening on all their pcs. To me this sounds like Windows (2000 and XP) memory management not coping very well but are there other issues I should be looking at? This has only started happening since they upgraded from our VFP6 application version to our VFP7 one. They may have also had some network changes but it's hard to pin them down. The only replies mentioned that DDE is old fashioned. It is code from a few years ago and there hasn't been any reason to change it as it was working well with the VFP6 application.  - Poss. Migrating to VFP from Paradox I presently have a number of applications written with ObjectPAL and Paradox 10 running presently, however am rapidly coming to the conclusion that I need to move away (Corel is not really doing much with it .. now). Problem is that most of the users who use these applications do not need SQL or anything heavyweight and am happy to stay with file-based databases and recently picked up the press coverage on VFP 9. It sounds pretty damn good for what I want/need and wondered if anyone else has had to migrate from Paradox to VFP in the past and has any useful hints/tips or pitfalls in making such a migration.  - VFP8 Help entry for Arrays and Select - SQL ... Wrong or what? I've copied the bulk of the VFP8 help entry for sending query results to an array below. If you look at the output for the company column, the values are all trim()/alltrim()'d -- a behavior I'd like to duplicate. Unfortunately, the best I can do is to trim() the appropriate results by hand after my queries execute. So...is the help entry wrong or am I missing something? -Lew SELECT - SQL is a versatile command for querying tables and can direct query results to an array. To send SELECT - SQL query results to an array, specify the INTO ARRAY clause with an array name. If the array doesn't exist, it is automatically created. If the array does exist, it is redimensioned automatically to accommodate the query results.  - Select - SQL vs. SUM I have a grid whose recordsource is a table named _payments. In this table there is a column in which user enters the amount of payment received for the respective invoice. This column is no. 8 in the grid and is the last column. The table contains outstanding invoices for a particular customer. In the lostfocus event of the the column, I placed the following code: Thisform.txtUnused.refresh The txtUnused is a text box that displays the unused portion of the total payment received from that customer. The Text Box has its controlsource set to nBalance. I place the following code in Refresh Event of txtUnused: Select _Payments sum Thispmt to TotalPmt nBalance=nPayment-TotalPmt && nPayment is the total payment received. Select Customer This code works fine the way it is. However, when I change the code to a SELECT-SQL statement, I run into a weird behaviour. The SQL code reads: Select sum(Thispmt) from _payments into array TotalPmt nBalance=nPayment-TotalPmt With the SQL statement when I change the value in ThisPmt column for the first time and hit Enter key, the value in txtUnused is updated and the focus moves the 1st column in the grid which is a Checkbox control. Now, while staying on the same row if I navigate to the last column and change the value again, the txtUnused doesn't get updated. Except for the first time, no matter how many times I change the value in the ThisPmt column, the txtUnused stays the same as the first time value. When I press down arrow key and then up arrow again, then the value gets updated. With the SUM statement, it works perfectly fine. As soon the value is changed in that column and I press Enter Key, the value in txtUnused gets updated and focus moves to 2nd column in stead of 1st column as was the case when I use Select SQL statement. Can someone please explain this to me why it is happening the way it is. I would prefer to use the SQL SELECT in stead of SUM statement.  - Detecting when a "modify ... NOWAIT" is complete I am using vfp6 I want to be able to detect when a programmer has completed modifying files. I will start the edit from a button click but I want to use the NOWAIT option on the modify command. Then when the file has been modified I would like to do some processing on it. I would prefer not to use a timer to check whether the forms are still being modified. I want something closer to an event. I have tried bindevents, but it doesn't seem to work with a form. I get "No such interface supported". The other option is to watch the date and times on the files in a particular directory but again I wanted to avoid using a timer for polling.  - Transparent bitmaps for buttons in our application (VFP 7) we have a toolbar that has a series of buttons on. I have created a .MSK file for each button to be able to have their background transparent but there is still some apparent pixel bleed in some of them.  - AutoInc problem, VFP8 Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem, it's the first time I've seen it. One of my tables has a pk, inst_id, which is set to autoinc. I bombed today on the uniqueness of my key which seemed strange considering I have no reason to manipulate any autoinc'd pk's directly. Nevertheless, it did turn out that the next val somehow or other had become set to a ridiculously low value ( 3 in a table of 50 entries).  - Scrolling in textbox I have limited real estate on this one form and need to include a text box to store an email address. I can't draw the box as wide as some emails might be.
