    - Can myApps ask MAPI to Press Send instead of ask the user to press it? Hi there, My application sends an e-mail thru MAPI. Problem is, the MAPI dialog box shows up, and the user would have to press Send to actually _send_ the mail. Anybody knows how to automate this? TIA, Willianto p.s.     - Calling .Net dll from Fox I don't know where to post this because it runs across 2 languages but here we go: I have a class "ImageProcessing.captcha" it works correctly on the development box but fails on the target machine. It fails on o = CREATEOBJECT("ImageProcessing.Captchas") Error message "OLE error code 0x80070002: The system cannot find the file specified" There is no init code in the .Net class. The class was developed with VS2005 The class has been registered with regasm which returned with "Types registered successfully" The target machine has the 2.0 .Net framework installed. Any ideas?     - NIST (ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2000) library (for FoxPro) released Cognaxon has released "NIST (ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2000) library" which adds the power of NIST (ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2000) file format to your software projects using only a few lines of code. Additionally "NIST (ANSI/NIST-ITL 1-2000) library" has built-in support for decompressing fingerprint images from WSQ image format.     - FoxPro 6 index problem (This is, in part, a continuation of my append - Urgent - very strange FoxPro 6 file corruption problem.) I've written a Dot Net 2.0 web app that reads and writes to FoxPro 6 dbf tables using OleDb. I've just discovered that my pc is running OleDb Version 8 while the server is running V9. The server is crashing on insert of records to a particular table, giving the error: Error building key for ndex "d:\foxproorderentry\oemail.cdx" tag "Dupkey". When I installed V9 on my own pc, the problem was duplicated. I've come across a reference that seems to refer to this at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms971772(VS.80).aspx but I'm not sure I fully understand it. The Dupkey index itself is defined as: so+fon+fon_it+type+dwg+sub+DTOC(sub_date). Everything but sub_date is an ordinary character field. I should mention that up till now, all but so, fon, and fon_it have been empty fields. I have just completed a test in which I have supplied full length default values for all the fields.     - How Much and Where Hello Again. As always, thanks in advance... Right now my company has one IT Person which is me. My main job is to keep the apps going but I have to do the hardware and networking stuff too. We are located in NY City. My question is: We have undertaken a new business area which requires quite a bit of new code. We may also have reached the point where I simply need another body to help with the non-coding stuff. I guess this was more background huh? Ok, the question is: Where would you recommend I search for VFP people? And what do you think the salary range might be for a FT person?     - Combobox in a grid I need some help. Right now i have a grid with 10 columns. All the columns are using "text" to display the information but I need to use a combobox in a column named "country".     - Text search & .zip files This is kind of OT, but I'm upgrading/maintaining a legacy vfp system which makes use of source files that are scattered throughout a large file server and which may be further hidden by the fact that they are kept in .zip files. (The existing sys actually unzips them prior to use and erases them afterwards.) The .zips moreover never use .zip as an extension.     - Urgent - very strange FoxPro 6 file corruption problem I'm having some very strange problems with FoxPro 6 dbf tables. I suspect my web app may be corrupting them (A Dot Net 2.0 web app accessing dbf tables is strange enough) but first I'd like to know if anyone can even put a name to this. My application can read the files, no problem. It's someone else's program that started complaining. The only thing that seems to be different is that when I open this problem file, the Reindex option is missing from the VFP6 Table menu. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?     - Opening a dBase file. Will opening a dBase file (not sure what version) using SELECT statement in VFP 8.0 SP1 in anyway affect the dBASE header or file itself.     - Append from "Excel File" TYPE XL8 give 1661 error if file saved from Excel 2007 I have an application that has been running for a while. It contains a number of different imports that bring in data from Excel sheets. The data is fairly simple 2 to 10 columns of data with one record in each row. It works fine if the data is saved from Excel 97 or Excel 2003, but if the data is saved As an XLS sheet from Excel 2007 the Append From fails with an error 1661. This happened even if a sheet that works fine that was created from Excel 2003 is opened in Excel 2007 and then saved as and XLS sheet. The XLS from Excel 2003 and 2007 are not exactly the same because the 2007 sheet is a few bytes larger than the original 2003 Excel sheet even if no changes are made to the file in Excel 2007. Is this a known problem? Is there a patch or work around available other than going back and converting the import from an APPEND From to Excel automation and scraping the data from the sheet one cell at a time?     - Form Disappears I am using VFP 9.0 SP1 and as I am in the development process of a Form I apparently edit the Form while it is still running in memory. After issuing a CLEAR ALL I attempt to edit the Form again and it is gone from the hard drive. However there are two files in the project folder 00002WAX00LR.TMP and 00002WAX00LS.TMP, which I assume are the SCX & SCT files. I rename the extensions and attempt to open the Form and nothing opens. I also attempted to open the actual form table to view its structure and I get the Memo file missing or corrupt error. How can I stop this from happening and how do I recover the Form? It is still "available" in the .app file since the form will display when I run the app. If there is no way to recover the Form is there any way to extract the code from the app file?     - Basic TextBox Question that I never thought of asking the Group Hello again, Thanks for all the help. In the TextBox control there is a VALID event and an INTERACTIVECHANGE event. I need to do validation so I usually use VALID. Is there a simple way to tell if the value has changed when VALID executes? In the past, when I have really needed this I have save the value in the GOTFOCUS event and then compared the value to the saved value.     - Grid - Zero values I have a Grid on a form where the column is using the 'Z' format meaning that for numeric values, if the value is 0 then the column is displayed as a blank. Recently a requirement has emerged whereby a value of zero is a legitimate value in the grid. The problem is that I want to be able to display a zero value when there is a zero result but a blank value when no previous value has been entered. Is that possible?     - Very odd FoxPro 6 corruption problem I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight on this. I have a Dot Net 2.0 web app running on a server that reads and writes to a set of FoxPro 6 dbf tables using OleDb. Somehow the main file, the only one read during start up, has become corrupted. The message is: Memo file D:\FOXPROORDERENTRY\ord.FPT is missing or is invalid. Now the FoxPro experts where I work have given me some pointers on file recovery and I have tried reindexing among other things. However here is the weird part. I know the server web app works because it will work with the backup tables. I also have run the app on my development machine using the original 'corrupted' tables, but when I do that everything runs fine. In fact I am able to update the memo field of an existing record. But even after this, when I copied these same tables back to the server, the server-based app crashed again. (I suppose my worst fear is that this web app is somehow corrupting the table in some unknown fashion. The user would like the first item in the Combo box to always show up when entering a new item. I don't know if this is strictly necessary. The only reason that I have the ELSE code in the first example is that my coding style is to always cover the ELSE if the result of the failure are important. In the case of coding with UPDATE, I'm changing a record that I think should be there to be changed. In the AfterRowColChangeEvent of the first grid, I do the query for the second grid. I always thought that this problem had something to do with the recordsource property of the grid but that is apparently not the whole story. Now that I've implemented it to lots of oohs and aahs, I'm starting to hear that since most of the time users have a browser based application running at the same time, they'd like the Google maps link to open in a new instance of Explorer rather than using the existing instance. If I start changing my REPLACES into UPDATE SQL and my APPEND BLANK followed by REPLACE into INSERT SQL is there anything that is different? When I RT'd the FM it said something about UPDATE using record locking but it wasn't clear. -pause- As I was writing this posting it dawned on me that UPDATE without a condition will update every record in the table.     - Database Help Hello all, thanks in advance for the help.... I've been using Fox for many years but I've never used DATABASES. The apps I'm running come from 2.x DOS days. All the DOS code is long gone now so I think its time to make the jump. I'm sure I've asked these questions here before but I don't remember the answers... Can tables in a database still be accessed as free tables? Are there different index requirements for tables in a database (Primary Keys, etc)? I would like to move into this slowly so as not to break any existing code. My primary motivation right now is to get a data dictionary where I can make notes about the various fields in some of the tables. I realize that databases can do a lot more but that is where I want to start. Once I add a table into a database, what else am I required to do in programs which use the table?     - Help with .cdx file Have a program in VFP 9 and want to user proof it. So my program determines whether the data has become corrupt (using error 2005) then deletes the table and the structural .cdx file, then using create table I recreate the data table and then I use the index command using the syntax index on whatever tag indexname. On the machine I am writing this on this works fine, but when I put it on my testing machine the index creation was .idx files as opposed to a .cdx file. I found a suggestion to use a backup of the .cdx file, copy it to the same name as the table and then immediately upon opening reindex but that does not appear to be working. The reference is treated as being the third element starting in row 4 with VFP not checking against the declared dimension. The reference is treated as referring to twod(5,1), not as being an error.     - How to read and update information via the internet. I am thinking of implementing a registration system into a commercial VFP application that will connect to a server across the internet, pass some unique account details and then return an expiry date. I know that I can create a .Net web service but this will require me to install all sorts of things on our clients sites and I want to keep things simple. I considered opening a query across the internet to a COM object but I understand this requires Soap which has been discontinued.     - I Hate this kind of problem. Please Help Hello and thanks in advance for the help. I have an program which builds a file for the report generator, calls the report, and returns. It is being called from a right click menu of a form. The code for printing (2 lines) SELECT Inv_Print REPORT FORM pickticket to PRINTER NOCONSOLE The problem is that the first time this PRG is called from the compiled version I get a variable not found message. The problem does not occcur on calls to the PRG after the first one. Here is what I know about this problem: 1. If I change the REPORT line to include PREVIEW the code works fine 2. If I insert a BROWSE command in front of the REPORT command, it browses the INV_PRINT table and then prints fine. 3. If I put the BROWSE after the REPORT command, the error occurs and I discover that I wasn't actually pointing to the INV_PRINT table. As I said in the subject, I hate this kind of problem. Does anybody have any potential solutions or debugging suggestions. BTW, if you run the code in the debugger, the problem doesn't happen. It was only by sticking the BROWSE after the REPORT command that I discovered that it was pointing at the wrong table. My application (created with Visual FoxPro 9.0 SP1) is using MSSQL 2005 (SP1) database as the backend. I read the data via SQL Server Native Client ODBC driver. Problem starts when I saw the following from SQL Server BOL (under the title "ntext, text, and image (Transact-SQL)" ): <start copying> ntext, text, and image data types will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using these data types in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use them. Use nvarchar(max), varchar(max), and varbinary(max) instead. For more information, see Using Large-Value Data Types. <end copying> and based on that, I'm using varchar(max) instead of text. PROBLEM: 1. If I use RemoteViews, VFP will automatically read the varchar(max) datatype as c(0) (i.e. character type with zero length). Obviously, the data get truncated to zero length. Ok. I thought this one is easy. Simply change the datatype to Memo with the following: DBSetProp("SalesPerson.Notes","Field","DataType","M") would do the trick - and yes, it works well. But I wonder, is there any way to somehow 'force' VFP to do this by default? 2. If I use SPT; say, something like this: text to lcSQLCmd textmerge noshow pretext 2 select SalesPerson, Notes from SalesPerson where pkSalesPerson = lcPKSalesPerson endtext =sqlexec (liConnHandle, lcSQLCmd, [xSalesPerson]) then VFP will truncate Notes to c(0) as well. I have to use the following lcSQLCmd instead: text to lcSQLCmd textmerge noshow pretext 2 select SalesPerson, cast(Notes as text) as Notes from SalesPerson where pkSalesPerson = lcPKSalesPerson endtext Now, if i would have to force SQL Server to convert varchar(MAX) to text on _all_ select queries, why would bother to use varchar(MAX) in the first place anyway? Is the cost of forcing SQL Server to do the convertion worth the price of using varchar(MAX) instead of text? 3. Can anybody with VFP9SP2 confirm whether this still happen in SP2?
