    - Strange printing with reportBehavior to 90 In VFP 9 SP1, i've an invoice report containing - title - header - group header - 1 detail band - group footer (with new page) - page footer - summary (with new page) When i print it with reportBehavior set to 80, it works fine. (It works for many years !) When i print it with reportBehavior set to 90 - page 1 is correct - page 2 to n-1 have a blank space above (+- 5 cm) and the content seems to be vertically condensed - last page is correct There is no special code in the reportListener.     - Which one is better option ? I am using Visual Foxpro 8.0. In my application i have two panes, on left pane i have product categories and on right pane respective products are being shown. Currently i am using FILTER command to show respective items. But it is getting slow and slow as data is increasing. Right now i have more than 10,000 records in products table and system is not responding quick enough. There is another way to do same job using INDEX command with FOR condition. Before going in any optimization work, i would like to have your expert opinion which option can work better for such kind of requirements. OR any other new suggestion. Thanks in advance.     - Connecting to remote VFP database using ASP We are having a difficult time connecting to a Visual Foxpro database located on a remote server using ASP. It is a security issue because the web application can connect if the database is located locally on the web server. When we point to the remote database and run the code, the application cannot find the location. We tried everything in the Microsoft KB article located at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/175801/en-us but nothing seems to help.     - Copying a Database (DBC) Is there a trick to copy a database from one directory to another? I am trying to set up a test area for a system on my computer. I have duplicated the file structure for the drive on which the DBC is located. I have copied the files for the database and the tables in the database. I have used the SUBST command to map part of my drive to the same drive letter as the DBC is expecting. But it doesn't work. The Validate database command shows errors for just about every table in the database. For most files it says: "Table is not in a database." If I use modify database and then click on a table, it says "Cannot resolve backlink." Is there anything I can do short of recreating the whole database from scratch? When I print from VFP (or any other Windows app), it insists on making it better quality. This takes several times longer. How do I set the printer driver to give me low-quality (and fast) output?     - Application based authentication Hi, I'm sure I've read about this before somewhere, but may have dreamed it. Is there a way to allow a user to run an app, but give read/write/modify permissions to the app instead of the user. That way the user can access the data but only via the app. I know I can effectively do this locking down with group policy, but I have some very awkward accountants in at the moment.     - Foxpro 2.6 Error 1104 Hello Everyone, I've been searching through all of the posts here about error 1104 and can't seem to find a solution that has worked for us. First off, we are not using Terminal Services or Citrix. The apps are being run on each local machine, accessing data files on a Windows 2003 server. The network is mostly gigabit with a few of the machines still using 10/100 cards. So far we have tried the following: - Disabling antivirus on both server and workstation - Disabling all automated backups - Changed from Foxpro 2.5 to Foxpro 2.6 - Set CATMAN = OFF We have an error control program that is currently working around the problem, but it is more of a band-aid as opposed to actually fixing the problem. Whenever the 1104 occurs, the error control program logs it to an error file and then tries again. The second try has worked every time. Lately, the error occurs mostly on the SEEK command, but has occured during the USE, APPE, GO, and SKIP commands in the past. We changed one of the apps so that instead of using a CDX file, it uses an IDX file. We have not had an error with that program since then. We ran a simple disk check on the server and did not find any errors, but we have not had a chance to run a more in depth disk scan due to the number of users that are dependant on using the data. We have checked the cables and NICs, recrimped cable ends, etc and we can't seem to find any problems with any of the hardware, but we haven't ruled it out completely.     - Issues with menus Hi, Running VFP 9.0, trying add a menu to my application. I have created the menu, added three pull down items, File, Reports and Help. In the File menu I put a Close option to exit the application. Here's the setup: Prompt: \<File Result: Submenu Options: Key Label: ALT+F Key Text: ALT+F Container: Left Object: None Pad Name: File Menu Level: File Prompt: \<Close Result: Bar# _mfi_quit Options: Key Label: CTRL+F4 Key Text: CTRL+F4 Skip For: .F. Also, in the general options for the menu I turned on Top-Level Form. In the Init() of my form I have: DO menus\mainmenu.mpr WITH THIS, .F. (Tried .T. too) Form.ShowWindow = 2 - As Top-Level Form. When I run my application the menu appears like I expected except the Close option is greyed out. I can't seem to find any property settings to adjust this, any ideas? Is this the default state of a menu option and do I have to control that in code somehow at run time? All I'm trying to do at this point is be able to exit the application. The other thing I want to do is include an About item in the Help menu, what's the best way to do this and be able to display the version number of my application, not just the version of VFP?     - Exception Code=C0000005 from upgraded VFP app Hello all. I just upgraded my distributed app from VFP 6.0 SP5 to VFP 7.0 SP1. The upgrade went very smoothly. I did a clean install on a users computer and all is well. I then installed it over the top of the old program and got the C5 error. Any idea what files were not properly replaced with new ones.     - No Disk in Drive Error All, My application is VFP8 and installs via Installshield VFP limited edition. Just recently when users install the application they have been getting the following error: programname.exe No disk in drive. Insert disk in drive E Cancel Tryagain Continue I thought it may have been because a CD was in my CD drive when I built the application (exe). I have built the exe again with nothing in my disk drive and distributed it but the error still comes up. Of note: My project is on my E: drive but has been their for years and years and I have never seen this before but it makes me think it may be related. One client has three Windows XP Home edition comptuers and this only does this one one of them.....Does anyone have any ideas of what to look for?     - Reading user name Hi, I'm running VFP 9.0 and I've built my installation program using Instalshield Express 5.0 and it works fine. But I'm wondering, when I install the application it prompts for User Name and Company Name, is it possible to retrieve that information from within my program? Not during the installation but during normal application use. I tried sys(0) but that returns the logged in user if I'm not mistaken.     - Strtran() not working with special characters I am using VFP9, SP1. Some text fields in a table have CTRL characters embedded at the end of the field preceded by spaces. This renders the alltrim() function useless when used prior to output. When pasted into a text file and viewed in binary they are =chr(2). I need to remove them. The at() function, however fails to detect them. When I use the following code (field=applics1): x=alltrim(applics1) x=STRTRAN(x,CHR(2),'') replace applics1 WITH ALLTRIM(x) strtran also does not detect chr(2) and the string remains unchanged.     - Eliminating orphans in grouped data Using VFP9 I have a report with grouped data. There can be anywhere from 1 to 21 detail lines. Is there any way to eliminate orphans short of insisting on at least 21 times the detail band height + group header height before starting a new group? This solution will skip to a new page much more often than is necessary. What I'd like to say is "start a new page if and only if there isn't enough room on this page to complete the group". Calvin's example actually blocks on the main thread so I redid it somewhat to avoid that and replaced some commands to make it backward compatible with earlier VFP versions.     - Renaming a field name I don't think this can be done in the following scenario, but then I am sure somebody here has figured it out. I need to rename a user defined field when the table is not in an exclusive mode. In the Customer table I have created some user defined fields with default names (NewField1, NewField2....). I have to allow the user to rename the field Name, Type, Width etc. Cannot open the customer table in Exclusive as there may numerous users hitting it at once. Creating a caption, comments etc on the fly for the field is a no brainier , But for reports etc rather than every time one or two of these fields are need, checking if the caption is blank with empty(field("fname","tablename",1)) will be a major PIA and a nightmare for support.     - show tips property I have a form with buttons on it which contain tool tips. The form itself has SHOW TIPS set to TRUE. For some reason, in the program where this form is used, the tips will not show. When I use the same form in another program, the tips show perfectly.     - program location I am building a standalone ap with vfp9. I want the exe to find a set of free tables in the directory where it is run from. I know I can hard code a set of tables into the project. The exe finds them from where ever it is run. But that file set won't be where the exe expects to find them after being put in place by a program installer on a user's machine. My thought was that there would be a way for the program to tell itself where it is (like app.path in vb). I have found home() and a set of sys() functions that provide a lot of paths, but, as far as I can tell, none of them will tell the program what directory it was started from.     - Combo box in grid display problem I've got a combobox in a grid. The combobox.rowsource has 2 fields; a display name (30 character field) and a primary key value (5 character field). The BoundColumn property is set to 2. The column's sparse property is .f. When the form starts up everythings cool, the grid colum displays the full display name.     - Method corruption - vfp9! I think Microsoft is slowly but surely getting a handle on this. VFP6 was notorious about this, VFP7 better, VFP8 good. This is the first time I've seen it with VFP9. As with every previous version, the method code was corrupted. In this case, not only was the method code corrupted, but the form could not be saved. Both at once!     - System menu bar not updating My application uses the main foxpro screen as the main screen, I have customized the system menu and have mdi child windows that spawn within the main window. There is a toolbar that is docked at position 0 (top). When the child windows are maximized, the system menu bar changes properly to display the minimize, normalize and maximize icons on the far right side. Normal behaviour is for these icons to disappear if the window is normalized or minimized. I have trapped the _screen resize event with a bindevent() procedure, in which i resize multiple objects in the application including other toolbars in dock positions 1 and 3. Things still function normally when this happens. However, if i attempt to resize objects(specifically a pageframe) within the toolbar docked at position 0 in this bindevent() procedure, in the same manner as the toolbars docked at positions 1 and 3, the system menu no longer functions properly. When the child windows are minimized or normalized, the minimize, normalize and maximize icons in the system menu bar are NOT disappearing. And when they are clicked the application crashes. Another weird thing is that before I got to this point, the only way that I could resize this toolbar at all was to hide it before resizing and then show it again, otherwise the application crashed. Specifically the line of code, that if removed the system menu bar functions normally is: toolbar.pageframe.width = _screen.width. Tag: Timer/Interval Q. Tag: 223764

    - Closing Table in Grid To build an index of a Table, the table must be opened exclusive I have a table (in shared mode) in a grid, and i want to build a new index. Therefore I close the table, open it exclusive, do the indexing and open the table again in shared mode. 0 certainly tells it never to run, but I've always preferred explicitly
setting Enabled.
