My status bar has suddenly decided not to shew the active
record number and the total of records.
The Status Bar is Set on, if I Set Status on I just get
the narrow blue band shewing <c> and 'num.
I'm missing something here, what have I done wrong and how
do I return to the display of record no/total records?

The Task Pane uses the Status Bar and doesn't restore it's default
when it closes. Do you have "Open Task Pane when VFP Starts" checked
in Task Pane Options?
