    - DEF[inition] file parser I have read an article which is written by Stephen Settimi in Foxpro Advisor Aug 2000. In the article, Stephen mentioned making use of a text file, DEF[inition] file, to hold the variables used by the application. The application will read the DEF file to extract the variable whenever the application is launched. Does any body has some code to parse the variable from a text file ? The structure of the file is very simple such as like the following, CONSTANT1 = definition1 CONSTANT2 = definition2 ................. for example, I will call the parser function getdefinition("CONSTANT1") to get the definition of CONSTANT1.     - Multithreaded COM DLL I have a VB application that is spawning off multiple VFP tasks using a multi threaded VFP COM DLL I have created. The code is something like this: oTest1 = CREATEOBJECT("foxole.person") oTest2 = CREATEOBJECT("foxole.person") (This is not the real syntax but gives you an idea) There could be a varied number of objects created from 1 to many. This seems to work fine except that the 2 objects seem to share certain elements. Changing a record in a table in one object changes it in the other, setting fiters in one sets the filter in the other, closing a table in one closes it in the other etc. What I want is for the 2 objects to run in completely separate memory spaces. I have created a multi-threaded DLL and my Project Server tab has the classes set to Single Use instancing. Automation with VFP 8 Whilst rolling out a package programmed in VFP 8 and using Excel Automation, I have come across a number of cases where the creation of the Excel Object fails - various errors messages appear - during the last installation, the error was 'Incompatible Version of RPC Stub'.     - WAIT WINDOW doesn't wait! I'm working with an accounting system written if VFP6. It allows my to run my own code from within the application. In trying to debug, I inserted a few WAIT WINDOW "<text>" commands so that I could see where my code was failing. Strangely, the window appears but it doesn't wait. The program just keeps on execution. This is NOT a WAIT WINDOW NOWAIT. Any idea how this happens? The application is an EXE, not an APP so it's not running under the VFP runtime. This utility program constantly looks for some data and imports/exports to another application. Hi all, Just crossed my mind this afternoon: as we all understand, whenever we put a local view in the form's Data Environment, then vfp would open the underlying tables as well. I wonder if this has anything to do with table corruption possibility. I mean; what if the form only open the local view and not the underlying tables; suppose there is a power failure in the middle of transaction; would the table corruption possibility is lower than if the tables are open as well?     - Newbie Control Subclassing Question Thanks in advance for the help. I'm still new to subclassing controls and I have what I believe is a very simple question. Where does the class code go so that I can use the new control on a form. For learning purposes I wrote a very simple variation of the label class that responds to the click event by reverting the colors.     - row(), col(), top, and left Hello All and thank in advance for the help. I'm sure that some of you know that you can use both @ SAY and ? inside of a window for writing information. The functions Row() and Col() also continue to work in VFP so that you can tell where in the window you are. My question is: Is there a way to convert the values returned by Row() and Col() into values that will work for the Top and Left properties of a control. I've tried the assumption that a 25 by 80 character window is translated into a 640 x 480 pixel window but things aren't going where they belong when I use: oObject.Top = Row() * 20 oObject.Left = Col() * 8 I could probably figure this out by trial and error but if there is a formula or algorithm that someone knows I'd appreciate hearing about it.     - DBF and DBT extensions I exported a table from MS Access into a DBF. It has 2 fields, one of which is a memo field. I'm going to have to import the DBF into a FoxPro database on Monday. When I exported, MS Access created two files, a DBF and a DBT file. What is the DBT for? Am I going to have issues when I try to import into FoxPro? I did a search and it appears the DBT is contains the memo field which could make some sense. The DBF is 5K and the DBT is 205K.     - AOL, Yahoo, and Microsoft Instant Messaging Does anyone know of / have experience with libraries or ActiveX controls for instant messaging? It appears to me from a brief search that there are several available for Microsoft IM but I haven't been able to find any or AOL IM. One ActiveX control I found from LionKnight Software appears to support IM, File Transfer, or String Transfer. These would all be very useful to me. Does anyone have any experience with this product.     - import into memo field I live in an MS Access world. I need to import data into a FoxPro DBF table. I got the following feedback from the creator of that table. Before I get into this, is there anything special I should know? Will an Access memo field export to a DBase III DBF file and import into the FoxPro DBF memo field without issue? ------------------------------------------------ The problem is going to be that Foxpro sees the Memo field in that DBF as a true "memo" field.     - Fox with VB6 Error.. or not?? I am currently trying to insert a line into a foxpro table using VB6. When I run the insert statement, no error is generated but the line is never inserted. Also, If I open the table and then try to insert, there is still no error (I would expect one since the table is opened by me at that time). Does anyone know what might cause this?     - VFP and SQL I have a customer, whose network I support. Windows SBS2K server (Dual P4 xenon with 2 Gigabyte ram) with 5 W2KPro (P4 2.0 or better w/512 meg ram) workstations. They are using a Visual Foxpro application, database loaded on server, application loaded on workstations. The users have noticed that as more clients log on to application the performance slows. 500 megabyte database. When 1 or 2 users are accessing the program they both are satisfied with the performance. As additional users log on to application performance slows. Most complaints are in look ups or finding records (maybe the index takes to long) The program vendor is suggesting that my customer upgrade to the SQL ($7500.00)version of the program.     - Putting Formatted Text into Email I am using Word automation to open a document, edit the formatted text, and somehow email it to a recipient list I have in a DBF. I have created an Outlook.application item but can't figure out how to paste the formatted text into it (there is no 'paste' method in the Outlook object model). AccountMate of the Month Last month in San Francisco, Softline AccountMate introduced a new interface to its software line at Evolution (its reseller conference). I spoke at a general session to almost 200 attendees, most of whom were FoxPro developers who have not yet upgraded to Visual FoxPro 8.0 but who plan to do so soon with the new release of AccountMate 6.5. It was stressed in AccountMate's keynote presentation that Visual FoxPro 8.0 played a significant role in AccountMate's new version 6.5 release. Most people (including the press) at the conference were amazed what AccountMate has done in the user interface using Visual FoxPro 8.0. The event made the news for Accounting Technology , which has 30,000 readers with 3 times that via pass along rate. AccountMate and AccPac are now both owned by the same parent company, see the article Best Strikes Again. A case of FoxPro identity We have several new case studies highlighting solutions based on Visual FoxPro 8.0 submitted to the case study team at Microsoft which are currently in the process of being posted on the Microsoft web site. These case studies will be targeting non-developers such as IT managers, decision makers, and executives. When the upcoming case studies on Visual FoxPro 8.0 are added to the Microsoft case studies web site, we will also make sure that the proper announcements go out about them in various Microsoft newsletters such as MSDN Flash, just like what occurs for Visual Studio and other case studies announced. Stay tuned for these new Visual FoxPro 8.0 case studies to be posted, and when they are, we will include links to them on the Visual FoxPro home page. Don't get blogged down without weblogs The new VS Data Team's WebBlog will have regular entries from VS Data group manager Alan Griver, myself, and others on the VS Data team, which includes the VFP team. The list of Microsoft employees and teams with their own weblogs is growing weekly at blogs.msdn.com. We encourage FoxPro developers to consider creating their own blog to discuss FoxPro related topics. A great example of a FoxPro related weblog is Craig Bernston's FoxBlog. For FoxPro developers adding .NET Framework programming to their toolbox of knowledge, read Rick Strahl's WebLog.     - How to remove code page warning on tables from fox 2.6? I use vfp8 and winxp. On a regular basis I have to append records from a fox 2.6 table to a table in a vfp8 database. The code below works, but it gives me two windows the user have to deal with. A 'table update warning' window and a 'select code page' window.     - Need HELP...! I have problem with formset. Hi, my problem is that i have a program and i want that the first windows to be in a formset. In this formset i've got my main windows. But i don't know why my windows appears only if i set it to 'As top level form'.     - Foxprow I have several old programs running on Foxprow alongside some new ones developed in VFP6. I use the patch so that Foxprow runs on faster machines. My query is this. My machine is getting old and runs at 450 mz using Windows 98. I looked at the Statusbar ActiveX control. Unless I am missing something,
I don't see a property to control font color.

There are some replacement ActiveX controls available on
Universalthread.com. You might want to look at these to see if they help.
Go to www.universalthread.com, click on the VFP Zone icon, and choose
Downloads icon. In the Summary text box of the query page, search for
"statusbar."
