Hi,

I am supposed to interface with the serial port (RS232) from a VFP9.0 app.
Need to send. receive set baud rate etc.

Now I have not done that since DOS 5.0 (guess I am old). So any libraries,
OCXs, controls to do that

TIA

As Fred mentioned, mscomm32.ocx can work, and work very well. Unfortunately,
the docs for the control are truely pathetic. Here are some samples I put
together several years ago:

Thanks a lot - yes would be nice if there were some nice docs.

He said *nice* docs. The MS samples are rudimentary at best, and if you want
to use the mscomm control in a serious application, you still have a lot of
work to do. If you think those are bad, try using the tcpip control. I wrote
a system that allows (more-or-less) unlimited clients to establish a tcp/ip
connection to a single server, all in VFP, but it was a lot of work. The MS
docs are pathetic, and really didn't help much.

If that is the same control that I am thinking of, I found the
same incorrect docs at a number of Web sites.

I found a rather nice working demo of a client/server chat program. It
wasn't well commented, but I was able to figure out how to do certain things
by examining it. Without that demo, I may not have been able to complete the
project because the MS docs left out a few critical pieces of information :(

It might have been the same docs. I found that I could not break
up the code into separate sections as I would in a real app. Finally,
I went to someone who knew it -- he was generally busy -- and asked
him. He quickly handed me the answer. It worked. So much for
finding it on the Web. I found multiple copies of that bad example
and not one correct one.

Sincerely,

Gene Wirchenko

I tried your FTP site for MSCOMM samples and it didn't work. is there any
other way to get these files? can you email them to martybills@yahoo.com?

Thanks,
Marty
