    - Different Column counts for each detail band in report. I'm trying to use multiple detail bands to get a subreport effect. It seems I am only able to control the column count for the entire report. I need to have one detail band of the report print in two columns, the middle detail band in three columns, and the third detail band only one column. All of these have to be on one report with no page breaks in between each detail band. Is there another way to do subreports in VFP9 or are multiple detail bands the only way?     - Cursor cannot be modified because it contains an unsaved record (Error 2072) We have been getting this error intermitantly in our package, and i hopeing someone can shed some more light on this, and possible have a solution as to how to get around this. basically we are getting this in the event of trying to do replace on a cursor that is linked to a grid and also to the control source of a text box. how do we get it to save first? as suggested in the help. i cant seem to find anything that saves a temporary cursor, i thought the whole point is that they are not actually saved to disk, but kept in memory.     - Slow Window Creation Hello and thanks for the help. I have a VFP 9 SP 2 app that creates many instances of my own subclass of the form control. I've noticed that when I start the app and it is creating the necessary windows, there is a noticeable delay between each window that is created. It seems to create about 1-2 windows per second which to me seems kind of slow. Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is a way to speed it up? Each window has a TE Edit activex control.     - VFPWINSOCK is sending the wrong date I am using VFPWINSOCK to send emails viaSMTP from a VFP application. Although the email is given the correct date, when it is received at the other end, it is received with a date 15 hours sooner. ie - sent at 6pm, received as 4am We are at GMT+10 I checked the code and it is setting DATETIME() correctly to the date when sending.     - Easy or hard?: Interface VFP desktop application with an internet application I deal regularly with a custom internet application that my nonprofit organization subscribes to. It requires me to input data manually and regularly and much of this is repetitive and has its quirks and difficulties. For instance, every time I enter a record I'm forced to enter the current time in two fields. The first field is the hour (e.g. 3 for a time between 3:00 and 3:59) and the second field is minutes (e.g. 59). The hour persists, but doesn't always update on time, forcing me to manually change the hour field. If I use my own VFP application to enter the data, I can have the time saved to my own VFP data automatically off the computer's clock, saving me the trouble of entering it manually, looking at the clock, etc. I can also supply data to my records driven by my own tables instead of having to enter it manually into fields like I have to do when using the web application. The problem from my perspective is getting the data from my own VFP tables into the browser form of the internet application. That application is written in PHP on a MySQL database. It has private access requiring a username and password. I don't want or expect to be able to automate the process completely, that's not the issue. I'd just like to make it reasonably convenient to enter the data into the internet application from my VFP data. I was thinking that I might be able to use a macro utility of some sort to grab the data from FoxPro and jam it into the internet form. I could inspect the form before saving data. I would certainly inspect the data online for errors, which is easy to do, as well as correct errors at any time. The internet application has an autocomplete function, but it can be rather dodgy and it's subject to problems with bad data entered by other people, something I have no control over. I'd rather use my own autocomplete functionality, driven by my own data. I'd use that on my client side VFP application when I enter the data, prior to "transferring" my data to the web application. Ultimately, the data would be stored on a server somewhere in MySQL, although I have data locally for my own purposes. How doable is this and what might I use to do it? TIA for guidance.     - Vanishing variable I have yet another variable going missing problem that I'd like to understand how it happens. In my error handler I do a list memory and in the list of variables lcinstruct does not appear in instances where the crash occurs however it does appear in other instances where I force a List memory to happen.     - Best approach? I've written a function that parses a search string and returns a 1D array for each word in the string. Such as, "PAINT SPRAY RED" would return an array of cArray[1,1]="PAINT" cArray[2,1]="SPRAY" etc. Now I want to issue a SELECT statement to search my inventory file Select * from inventory WHERE cArray[1,1]$descript AND .... (or several other fields may be searched) and so on... The problem is that I can't hard code the select statement because the function will create the number of elements for the array based on how many search terms are entered. I'm assuming a user defined function in the select to return the WHERE clause would work, but is this best? (or is this even permissable and will a UDF in a Select statement return correct results?)     - Can't close a dbc I'm trying to start an app with a clear slate, but I can't close its chief dbc reliably. The app creates a private session object and opens the dbc in the private session. I may not close it properly in the app during testing for whatever reason, but the main prg does a close all & clear all to make sure that no project managers are open, then loops through aSessions and nests aDatabaseses to visit every possible dbc & does a close databases all for each. Yet, when I finish all this, dbused() still shows that it's open and I can set database to ... successfully without having to open database first. Acrobat seems to think the one report is a scanned document. The only difference I find is that when calling the "problem" report I set reportbehavior 90. Could this be the reason?     - Report field stretching problems I have a report in which a field was changed from a small character field to a memo field. Some of the memo fields contain a good deal of text, so this field on the report needed to be changed to stretch: http://www.proudviews.com/RptStretch.jpg After changing the report field to stretch with overflow, setting the vertical lines to stretch with the band, and setting the line below the memo fied to float, here is the result: http://www.proudviews.com/stretch_new.jpg The memo field now stretches as desired, but the vertical lines are lost across a page break, and very oddly, a field set not to print repeated values is now showing repeated values. Any input on ironing this out?     - Releasing Memory After Completion of a Process Hi! I have developed an EXE [in VFP 9] which the User is intends run to execute certain tasks (like importing, exporting data etc.). In order make use of this all the user does is set the task and the time which the task have to run. The EXE will be run in the background and checks [each 10 minutes] if any task have to be executed. If any scheduled tasks fall within current time range then the task would be run. This EXE is installed on Windows 2003 Server. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is used as the back end. The issue I'm facing is whenever this EXE tries to execute tasks the CPU Memory usage of the Client's PC goes high [mostly up to 100% usage]. There can 100 thousand records or more involved in the import/ export at a given time. I've been under the impression that the CPU Memory usage goes when the EXE executing tasks is due to the high volume data and the memory would get released as soon as the process is over. But this is not case; the memory is not released once the task is completed execution. The CPU Memory is freed after very long time. At present this single EXE consists of all the data import/ export tasks. I'm planning to have multiple EXE's for each task where the main EXE would call the relevant sub EXE to execute a task. The main reason for me to come up with such a method is the expectation that the CPU Memory would freed / released immediately after the execution of a sub EXE.     - Changing Window Behavior Hello and thanks for the help... Can I change the default behaviors of clicking and right clicking on a minimized window? Right now, as you probably know, clicking alternates between restoring and minimizing and right clicking pulls up a menu with restore, move, etc. I would like to use left clicking for my own purposes and have right click toggle between restore and minimize.     - VFP 8.0 - How to handle this. I have multiple compiled .exes using VFP 8.0. Each one is called by a prg, calls the form and when the form is destroyed, clear events is issued. Now, I want to call each of these individual .exe's from another .exe. (a form acting as a main menu). But the problem is that when I run the individual .exe the entire app is closed because each .exe issues a clear events in the destroy event. I thought about creating a public variable when the main menu is initialized. Then in each individual .exe during the destory event, checking for the existence of the public variable. If it does not exist, then the destory event would issue the clear events and act as normal. If the public variable does exist, then the destory event would only release the form and return to the main menu. Is there a better way to handle this.     - VFP mySQL oddity I have a mySQL 5.x server running atm and am using mySQL ODBC 5.1.1 and VFP 9 sp2. When I am querying data from the mysql tables into a cursor, all fields defined as decimals are coming into VFP as currency. Is there a way to force VFP to be smart enough to make them all numeric?     - inner join and left join I have two tables: ACCOUNTS and TRANSACTIONS and I need to produce a cursor showing comparative totals for the last two years. I know how to do a sql to get the totals of transactions for last year, and the totals of transactions for this year, for each account. However I can't work out how to join them, because there are some accounts that will have no transactions against them for last year, some that will only have transactions against them for last year, and some accounts that will have transactions in both years.     - Keyboard Search With Combobox Hello and thanks for the Help. I have a grid with several comboboxes that have a RowSource as a Cursor containing the options. When the user clicks on the drop down, they can type in text and have the combobox will move to the items that they are typing. I would like the combobox to drop down as soon as the column gets focus so that the user can use the keyboard instead of having to stop and use the mouse. Is there a way to do this? In the report Designer, you can probably use Field Properties ->
Format tab -> Format Expression and put your (###)###-####
in there.

In the report builder use an expression type of Numeric and put "(999)
999-9999" without the quotes into the format expression field.

I do not since phone numbers have a variety of formats. The
North American Numbering Plan is but one format.
