    - VFP9 report data environment display bug I have a report data environment with many tables and many relations (> 20 tables up to 5 levels deep). Works fine in report data environment. However when I save the data environment to a dataenvironment class and reuse it on another report, the layout of the tables in the data environment is lost. They just appear in a straight line across the data environment designer. This in its self is not the problem, just an annoyance. The problem is that at some point, I can not get to the tables on the far right side of the data environment designer. The relation lines go off the right side and no matter what I do, I an not get to the tables to reorganise them. I tried resizing the form every which way, resiizing the screen resolution.     - OLE Automation and Window handles I am working with automating some barcode label software in VFP 9. One of the OLE functions is used to draw a preview image of the barcode label in an image object. The parameter of the function requires a handle to the control that I want to paint the image in. This can be accomplished in Visual Basic by using the hWnd property of the image control. VFP does not have this functionality that I am aware of for controls. 1.) Is it possible to use this method of painting in an image control in VFP 9? 2.) If not, is it possible to use a form and draw the label preview directly on the form using the form's hWnd propery, maybe by using GDI? Thanks for any help you can give. I have a nightly job which sometimes fails to run because a user stayed in the application and the nightly job can't get exclusive access to the files which need to be updated. I have the following questions: 1. Is there any way for me to get VFP to tell me which user has the file open? 2. Is there a way (that works) to have applications terminate at a specific time? I tried putting a timer on the main form but if the user stays in a sub-form, it never gets back to the main form (or the main form timer fires but can't close the app because a sub-form is open). Do I need a timer on each form? Do I need to write a routine like: FOR EACH OPEN FORM OpenForm.Close() NEXT If that is the way to go can someone tell me the actual code that will do this? It has some ActiveX controls, and also I use several merge modules After installing, application works fine if I run it logged as Admin But if I try to run it logged on a limited account (which is member of users group only), I get an error, Class not registered (when application try to create an ActiveX object instance) I had another problem early, with write access in application root folder (because it is installed in Program Files), but I manage to handle it, by setting Permissions for install folder: I created an entry Users, and give it all rights. I try the same for ActiveX I use in my project (setting full permissions for them individually to Full) but still don't work Can anyone give me a suggestion howe to handle it?     - Report Form xx PROMPT vs. Default Printer Hi All, Ever experienced super small 1/4 size printing on a report? In circumstances where you use the PROMPT and NOPAGEEJECT options on the REPORT FORM command so that the user can select the printer desired and so that a subsequent report will be part of the same print job, the subsequent report will always use the default printer driver no matter what printer the user selected. IOW, the PROMPT option of the report command only effects that specific report and not all the reports that are part of the same print job. Example: REPORT FORM A1 TO PRINTER PROMPT NOPAGEEJECT NOCONSOLE REPORT FORM A2 TO PRINTER NOCONSOLE If the user selects any printer other than the default when prompted the two reports above that are both part of the same print job will be printed to the same printer using different printer drivers for the first and second reports. (Keeping them part of the same print job is really handy when printing to a PDF file) . Using the wrong printer driver for a report going to a printer can give you strange results. Is there a way to force multiple reports that are part of the same print job and all going to the same printer to use the printer driver that is related to the PROMPT selection made on the first report? I have resorted to placing a sys(1037) in code just before my report rather than using the PROMPT option on a REPORT FORM command, to change the default printer. It is a kludge and does not present as nice a user interaction as the prompt option but it works. This seems like a minor bug to me...     - SourceSafe hangs when multiple users access anything at the same t Does anyone else have the problem when using Visual SourceSafe and two or more developers start up VFP (or one starts up and another wants to modify a form) at the same time. Basically it seems hang when multiple users do anything at the same time, that accesses the VSS database. It hangs until one of the users kills VFP. It seems wired that this would happen when the purpose of SourceSafe is to allow you to develop in a multi-user environment.     - call32.dll questions I've been using Rick Strahl's call32.dll from FPW with fairly high success on Win95 and ntvdm under 2K and XP. It can be a bit painful at times (eg just trying to Declare32 a non existant function name will throw a GPF instead of something friendlier.) There's also an annoyance when trying to RegFN() - if you pass the whole path to the dll then the second and subsequent attempts to register a function claim there is no function of that name within the dll. Relative paths seem OK but since I can't be sure of current directory I found the easiest thing to do was change default to dll directory, register the functions and then change default back. Anyway, sometimes after a few function calls, a GPF will be thrown just trying to call any function in call32. It is always the same GPF and it persists between FPW sessions. I have found that if I kill off the ntvdm process using task manager then it starts working again (or, of course, reboot. Merely exiting all 16bit applications doesn't stop wowexec and ntvdm, they are left running for a quicker startup if you run another 16bit application.) Does anyone have any idea why it seems to go a bit screwy after a while? It's a little annoying because I thought I'd got it working stably but now I've put it into production the flakiness has been exposed. All the examples I've seen for calling functions in external dlls don't do anything to tidy up afterwards and I wonder if this is the problem? The next thing I'm going to try is the latest version of call32.dll, it was originally written for VB and Rick took the source and added a few other functions that may be useful to Foxpro programmers. The latest version has been updated a couple of times since Rick's build and there is an extra function to free libraries used.     - Autosize Problem I have a generic form with a label that is passed a variable size caption. I set the caption in the Init method. Autosize is set to .T.. I then resize the form in the Activate method in relation to the change in the size of the label. This works fine in VFP 8.0, but it doesn't work in 9.0. In 8.0, the change in size is recognized at the time of the Activate method, but this is not the case in 9.0. I can create a breakpoint in the Activate method and step through the critical lines of code and it will recognize the autosize change. Any suggestions?     - Adding a picture to a general field VFP9. I want to programmatically add a picture (e.g. a .gif file) to a general type field for use in a report. I couldn't find how to do this in the doc. I tried the APPEND GENERAL command and looked at the sample, but my results only put the file name in the field and no picture showed on the report.     - How do you read postdata in a webbrowser control? I'm working on a VFP project for engineers designed to help them collect descriptions, links and images from manufactures sites to simplify creating design documents. Part of the time saving aspect of this project is to reduce the dozens of times each day they have to logon to each manufacture site and search/navigate to the pages they need for their projects. To accomplish this for non-programmers I need a way to capture POSTDATA from the beforenavigate2 event. I believe the datatype is a safearray. I've found code that is for VB that uses lenb and midb functions.     - VFP 6.0 and Network Access Storage (NAS) Our Win2K server was recently migrated to Oa new NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. Since this time, some of our application have been receiving 'Cannot Update Cursor' errors. I've narrowed it down to when a 'PACK' command is issued. The application utilizes a control file that stores folder names in it associated with the server on the Q:\ drive (i.e. Q:\TEST). The application has been running for years and hasn't had updates in the past 9 months. Since the NAS migration, these errors have been experienced. Any thoughts on how to get around this?     - Advice for first time "contractor" I've been programming (in FoxPro) for around 10 years and working at it (W2) for 8 or so. I've had quite a few jobs. I am sometimes asked if I want to work as a contractor or as an employee and I have always said "employee" mainly because I've always done that. I figured I could probably easily take those jobs on a contract basis and figured that someday I'd have to (or even want to) but that day hasn't come until today. A recruiter got my resume off an employment recruitment site and has been lining me up for a position at one of their client companies and yesterday I was told that the decision has been made that I get the job (starting Monday). I am to be paid on an hourly basis as a contractor. They emailed me papers to sign yesterday. Generally, when I sign preemployment papers I scan them and sign, have a general idea what it's about, the legalese notwithstanding. Since I was at home this time, at my "leisure," I took the time to read this stuff carefully. Most of it looks pretty OK, although I'm rather inexperienced at this, obviously. There's a nondisclosure agreement, a W9 form - pretty standard stuff. Then there's the 5 page contract with an "Exhibit A" tacked onto that, being a purchase order for my services. That's a bit weird from my perspective, but probably standard, I figure. It states my hourly rate, basically, with a sentence or two with yet another guarantee by me that I won't make any agreements with the 3rd party for a year after the completion of my assignment, things of that nature. In the contract they want me to guarantee that if I do start working directly with their client, I will fork over 20% of my salary. I guess I'm OK with signing on that. However when I got to paragraph 12 in the contract, I did a double take: 12. INSURANCE. Contractor will obtain for itself and its personnel before providing services, at its own expense, comprehensive General Liability insurance coverage for projects covered by this Agreement, for limits of liability not less than $500,000 and will name <insert name of recruiter here> as an Additional Insured, provide a copy of the binder and policy to <insert name of recruiter here>, and hold <insert name of recruiter here> harmless for any damages or expenses, including attorney's fees, incurred as a result of misconduct of Contractor or its personnel involving <insert name of recruiter here>, the TPU (third party unit), or any customer of client of the TPU. Now, that's something I wasn't prepared for and I figure I'll be calling them first thing in the morning - their office won't be opening for at least 3 hours. You people with experience, can you tell me what this is about? Are they going to waive this for me? I can't believe that they recruited me with the assumption that I already have an insurance policy of this nature and didn't ask me up front. I'm a computer programmer, and they were careful to check out my references before making me the offer. In the past, the trust inherent in that type relationship has floated my boat. Please, in addition to answering that specific question, can I get some tips and hints to give me a more solid footing in embarking on my first gig as a contractor? I've had quite a few contractor-like assignments, but never actually been on a contract basis. I always figured it was going to be principally a matter of filling out some different or extra IRS forms, but I guess there's more to it. For one thing, it looks like I'm going to have to manage my own withholding of federal and state taxes and SS. Do I do that at tax time or do I have to manage that during the work year? This job is 6 months+ (I'm told it's funded for a year, possibly with extensions) but I will be on a trial basis, especially at the start. The TPU is contractually entitled to send me home for any reason at any time. The contract seems to carefully stipulate that I'm entitled to zero benefits, just my hourly rate with no possibility of extra compensation for overtime, no possibility of being compensated for training of any kind, etc. I am in California.     - Remote View ODBC error (VFP6) I keep getting this error and have no clue why. Error: 1526 Connectivity Error: Unable to retrieve specific error information. Driver is probably out of resources I'm using a remote view which refreshes every 10 seconds. Runs fine about 100 times then this OR same error with a SQL deadlock. Any ideas?     - SQL Stump I am having problems coming up with an sql statement to get the data that I want. I would like to get the data in one SQL statement if possible and I cannot get my brain to work this morning. I have 3 tables, user, locations, and user_locations. The user to locations is a many to many hence the user_locations.     - Table Limits I have a table that is going to start growing real fast and I need to know about how many records the limit will be. I realize that the table size limit is 2GB. Therefore I'm guessing I can take the record length that is listed in foxpro and divide this number by 2GB. Is this correct. For instance my record length is 301 therefore if I take 2,147,483,648 / 301 I get 7,134,497 records.     - PagesetupDlg using VFP 8.0 Hi I am trying to initialize the Page Setup Dialogue box (PAGESETUPDLG(@lcBuffer)) with a buffer string already saved to file, the Pagesetupdlg allows me to pass the buffer string into and out of the function and works a treat whilst I remain within the foxpro environment, however should I exit foxpro then upon my return to the program the Pagesetup dialogue box gets reintialized with my default printer even though I am telling it to use the buffer string previously saved to file. If I link a report to a dataenvironemtn class and then make some changes to
the dataenvironment on a specific report, will these changes be kept when
the dataenvironment class is updated and / or the report is run?
