    - App does not detect newly added record Hi, Just fishing for ideas here. I have two apps which 'talk to' each other. Idea is that app1 is the UI, and allows users to submit a job request to a table. App2 is server based and looks at the table via a timer - if it finds a new job request, it processes it, then looks out for the next one. Problem I have is that app2 won't pick up a new job request if the job queue table has a job added after it's been empty. If you restart it, it picks up no problem, if it adds its own occasional job it works fine, and if there's say 4 jobs in the queue after a restart it will process them all. This is a VFP8 app running on Win 2003 Server. I'm guessing this is some multi-user issue. I'm not using the DE - table is opened each time within the timer code, it's definitely the right table, and a COUNT gives zero records. Any help much appreciated.     - New VFP System I was handed a vfp system and am not familiar with vfp. I have attended some general classes on it. However, the system I have was not redesigned for vfp or done in a relational database. It is just tables. with information copied over and duplicated in several areas. I know the system needs to be fixed, I have been told with what I want it would basically require it to be re written. Do you think it would be best to be written in VFP, Access or some other database format. In the future we will be looking at web based things as well.     - VFP via OutlookXP send message Dear. When I use internal dev system send out message via outlook XP, the screen are prompted that "An application is trying to access the address book. Do you want to do this". A progress bar follows and after it times out the "ok" button is enabled. A combo box prompts users to "allow access for" 1-10 minutes.     - Using VFP to process long lins of data & to create mailing labels I need to process some very long lines of data, 1200 characters or more, that contains company, address, city, state, and zip code data. My goal is to extract these items and create mailing labels. With shorter lines of data, 250 or less, I knew how to process this. Using FP2.6 terminology, I would create a file with one field the length of data, append the data as text, process this file record by record, and generate fields for a second file. I have done the same in VFP. I know how to process the data on a line once I can get Foxpro to read the line, for example processing character by character. My problem right now is I don't know how to get the long lines of data to the point I can use VFP to read the data character by character. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how to do this?     - File size problem Symptoms: The .fpt size of the target dbf file gets larger and larger = and finally exceeds the file size limit. One dbf file is used as source. The data in one of its memo field is = treated line by line and copied into the only memo field in the target = dbf file. The copying method is "replace ... with ... additive". The actual data size in the target dbf file is no more than 2Mb when = "pack memo" is run.     - Diagnosing error 1104 We have a mix of W2K and XP workstations running FoxPro 2.5 DOS and several VFP 7 SP1 apps. The data is on a NT4 SP6 server and the network is 100Base. We have been getting error 1104 Error reading file. Today we had the error on all 6 WS in the front office that are all connected to one switch and 4 out of 5 WS in the back office that are connected to another switch, the 5th WS did not have a problem and was running one of the VFP apps. How can we try and track this down? The two network guys think it is an application issue and not a network/connection issue. They also do not know how to diagnose the network.     - formatted text Hi How would you handle this requirement? 1) Copywriters have hundreds of Word documents, one per product - that are book abstracts with numerous pieces of information enclosed in pseudo markup tags, such as <nticon>, <toc>, etc. Let's say for now they prefer to leave these in Word, and that their odd tagging scheme is at least consistent. 2) They want each piece of data to be placed into discrete fields in a Foxpro table so they can be output in an ad hoc order. They may take the results and merge them into a custom Word doc, view them in a Crystal or R&R report, etc. 3) There is already a program written to do this extraction, but it is not currently pulling the formatting, i.e. bold, italic, etc. 4) The formatting needs are not sophisitcated. Only the basic formatting is needed, no multiple fonts etc., mostly bold, italic, and bullets. In other words, simple HTML is sufficient and while RTF works, it is overkill Since my program in 3) already does everything except pull the formatting, my thought is to find an HTML edit control like the RTF control that comes with VFP, i.e. that could be bound to a memo field in a DBF and store the formatted text. I have had some success doing this with the RTF control, to the point of auto-pasting the selections into the RTF control then sending the results to memo fields. But there is a need to also output the formatted text to HTML, and that control has no conversion method that I know of. I am aware that Word can be automated to save a DOC as HTML, but the result is overly complex and hard to parse.     - Emailing formatted documents from VFP For one of our custom apps, a lot of things are currently printed out then faxed. We're planning on a fax server and email at everyone's desk, so those documents will soon either get faxed via the fax server or emailed. If we want to preserve formatting for a VFP 6 report, how would y'all recommend we handle that?     - Timer hang clicking in Text/Edit box ! Please help ! Hi all, I'm getting a strange error in VFP when using a timer control. Every time I click and hold the button mouse in a text or edit box the timer doesn't fire the timer event. This also occurs in an ActiveX that I made with Delphi to use in VFP.     - FPW2.6 Windows 2000 print preview font size I'm having a problem with the font size in the print preview of FPW2.6 when the machine uses Windows 2000: It's not detailed enough to read. The machine in question has a desktop resolution of 800x600 and my report uses Arial, 8pt. When I click to zoom in the print preview, there is not enough detail to read the text clearly. If I change the resolution to 1024x768 the preview page appears with the same physical size (if I put a tape measure to the screen) but the higher resolution allows the text to be readable. A win9x machine handles this "the other way around" - ie the rendered page seems to be at a fixed bitmap size and the text is always readable, changing the resolution just changes the physical size on screen. I've made sure Foxfont and Foxprint are installed. No difference. I changed the font DPI in the display control panel. No difference. Any ideas?     - VFP 6: Singlestepping I am finding the weird stuff lately. Today's thrilling episode: I am debugging a processing program. A couople of records are giving odd results. I inserted if inlist(recno(this.thiscode+"_cwkt"),6937,13622) clear typeahead =messagebox("setting step on") set step on endif to start singlestepping at this point. In the details of the processing, I decided that I need to browse a temporary table before processing continues. For this, I added: if set("step")="ON" browse endif Imagine my surprise as singlestepping bypassed the if body. Hacker's 6 explains that set("step") always returns "OFF". Insert nasty thoughts here. I want to detect whether the program is being debugged in singlestepping mode. I could set a variable just before I turn singlestepping on, but now, I have to explicitly turn it off or I will be seeing a browse for every record between 6937 and 13622.     - textbox controlsource and grids Hi, I have a grid with a textbox where "vertaal" is a textbox with only an extra method called "vertaaldit" which translates the original (dutch) textbox.value to english (keypress Ctrl+F5). the value is getting translated with no problems but as soon as I leave the textbox the original dutch value is there again in the textbox. But when I change manually something right after a translation then the english value is stored correctly into the textbox (and the table) When I don't translate and change manually something then there is also no problem.     - C0000005 error in application which normally runs fine Hi, We had a call today about a C0000005 error at startup of the application on p.c.'s running Windows 2000. At the same client, the application runs fine under Windows XP started from the same network folder. When I copy the application to my notebook under Win2000 it also runs fine. I know Adobe Acrobat lets you do this.

Is there an API to get a list of available paper sizes or an API to add a
new paper size?

You have to add it through 'server properties' on the printer control screen.
