    - Subclass programatically defined classes I've inherited an app with numerous classes defined in PRGs. I need minor variations on a few and since there is so much code I want to reuse, not to mention inheritance being such a big plus, it feels like it would defeat the purpose to recreate them. Is there a way to subclass these? If so can you offer suggestions or resources on how to do so? I can't seem to find any info when searching the web. Sorry. strobes Given that I couldn't provide the evidence to persuade the Eye of the credibility of my claims, I did the next best thing, which was to take out classified adverts in their "Eye Say" and "Eye Tech" columns. My motivation for doing so is obvious; the Eye is read both by many thousands of ordinary folk, but also makes its way into the homes and consciousness of the UK's political and media elite. It is also a known favourite with "Five". What better way of taking the fight to the enemy? The first small ad appeared on 10 Jan 1997 in issue 915 in "Eye Say". It ran in that column on 24/1/97 and 7/2/97. On 21/2/97 it ran in "Eye Tech", and on 7/3/97 and 21/3/97 again in "Eye Say". I then changed the ad's wording to read "BBC Newsreaders Conspiracy", and the new wording ran in "Eye Say" from 4/4/97 issue 921, 18/4/97 to 2/5/97. The word "xenophobic" in the first advert had been intended to convey the sense of exclusion through the bigotry of my enemies, both on the basis of race and mental condition, but it seemed a bit too non-specific. "BBC Newscasters Conspiracy" was a little more immediate, although readers had to actually wade through the website to find out what it was that the newscasters were conspiring to do. My next effort tried to spice up the text. "MI5/BBC Conspiracy" ran for six issues in "Eye Say", from 5/9/97 issue 931 until 31/10/97. I suppose there is something a little sad about somebody who knows he has mental illness, placing adverts about a conspiracy in which MI5's watchers enable BBC newscasters to personally and directly communicate with him while reading the news. It is pretty sad, but unfortunately it is also true, both in the objective reality we all inhabit, as well as in my own mind. There followed a hiatus of about a year until I resumed advertising on 2 October 1998. I paid over £200 for six months advertising of the new improved text "MI5 Persecution, BBC Newscasters Spying on my Home". This text ran from issue 960 until issue 972 (19 March 1999) in "Eye Say". Private Eye's editor Ian Hislop denies knowing anything about my case, as the following email illustrates.     - MI5 Persecution: Counter-surveillance sweep by Nationwide Investigations Group Counter-surveillance sweep by Nationwide Investigations Group In July 1994 the private detective agency Nationwide Investigations Group conducted an electronic counter-surveillance sweep of my parents' home in London. They checked for radio transmitter devices, and tested the telephone line for attached bugs. They found nothing. I am afraid that I was unsurprised at their not finding any evidence of covert surveillance. It had been made very clear to me, particularly during 1990-92, that audio, and almost certainly video, surveillance of my parents' home was taking place. But this would not have been made quite so obvious unless the persecutors were confident of their apparatus being undetectable using the technology the police, or a private agency like Nationwide, would be using. I don't know very much about the surveillance technology that has been used against me, but I understand that devices can be built which switch off on receiving a coded command, and may switch on again after a counter- surveillance sweep has completed; that devices may rapidly alter the frequency of transmission, "frequency-hopping" devices which presumably cannot be detected in a sequential scan of the sort employed by Nationwide; and of course "probe" microphones can be inserted "through-the-wall", although I hesitate to believe our neighbours would permit this. We paid Nationwide £411.25 (including VAT) for the surveillance sweep, which took them about an hour and a half to complete, using a "Professional 5000 multi-scanner, CCL UHF scanner and Guideline telephone tap detector." As I said above, I don't know very much about these things, so I can't comment on the capabilities or otherwise of this equipment.     - Word Automation I use the following code to open a word document - search for some text, replace it with something else and then save the document with a new name. These are all multi-user, and I've gone to some trouble to make sure all necessary files are flagged sharable (in Netware), and are reflagged if packed, etc. Is there any such requirement for special file attributes on a Windows AD server?     - Help Files for VFP Application I'm about ready to put a VFP app up for market. I have another person writing the help files for me. The dbf style help seems the easiest route to go, but it isn't very sophisticated. At the same time, asking this person to write html files might be a bit over his head.     - Progress bar during sqlexec() I want to update a progress bar during a sql select using sqlexec(), but haven't found a way to get the progress information. A work-around I have tried is to put a timer control on the form and let this update the progress bar. But this only "works", since it is lacking real progress informaiton.     - Buffering failure in multi-user environment Records added by user A are showing up in user B's edit form. I setup a simple form with a Parent and Child table. There is an "Add Parent" button and an "Add Child" button. There is a relationship set between the parent and the child. The child records are shown in a grid. Buffering is set to 5 - Opt. Table buffering There are Next, Previous and Save buttons In a 2 user environment, both users first add a Parent record. Then each user adds several detail records. The user who added the first parent record then clicks Save, then Next, then Previous. If the other user moves to a different record in the Child Grid, records added by the other show up.     - Report Writer Dynamic Font Adjustment VFP9 Is there away way to dynamically change the font bold property depending on a certain condition. Kind of like print when. I would like certain lines of the report to be bolded and others not. I know I can overlay two controls and conditionally print one bold or one regular. I've done this with colors and fonts before. One of the first things I heard in the summer of 1990 was from a Capital DJ who said, "If he listens to Capital then he can't be all bad" (supportive, you see. We're not bastards). Much of what came over the radio in 1990 is now so far away the precise details have been obliterated by time. No diary was kept of the details, and although archives if they exist may give pointers, the ambiguity of what broadcasters said would leave that open to re-interpretation. In spring 1994, Chris Tarrant on his Capital morning show made an aside to someone else in the studio, about a person he didn't identify. He said, "You know this bloke? He says we're trying to kill him. We should be done for attempted manslaughter". That mirrored something I had said a day or two before. What Tarrant said was understood by the staff member in the studio he was saying it to; they said, "Oh no, don't say that" to Tarrant. If any archives exist of the morning show (probably unlikely) then it could be found there; what he said was so out of context that he would be very hard put to find an explanation. A couple of days later, someone at the site where I was working repeated the remark although in a different way; they said there had been people in a computer room when automatic fire extinguishers went off and those people were "thinking of suing for attempted manslaughter". Finally, this isn't confined to the established radio stations. In 1990 after I had listened to a pirate radio station in South London for about half an hour, there was an audible phone call in the background, followed by total silence for a few moments, then shrieks of laughter. "So what are we supposed to say now? Deadly torture?     - VFP Randomly Loses Record Lock Somehow my rather large application is loosing a record lock approximately once or twice a day. It is running on Win2003 servers - one file server and four terminal server boxes with 100 users daily. My symaphore is when someone wants to edit a client record they press a key to lock that record. At that point the fields change from readonly. About once a month losing the record lock causes a collision and a crash. It is an old app that has been fully converted from 2.6 into VFP using forms and grids. There are no private data sessions. I am very carefully "tracing" the users actions so I can see almost every keystroke they hit (actually every form they create, every field they enter, and every menu selection they make). My one guess of the culprit is that it always seems like a validation for example calls up a form (a dialog that I have coded) that asks a question. I somehow think that the form in its creation or distruction causes the loss of lock... though there is no code in it that locks or unlocks anything. Even imitating the exact sequence does not recreate it. Does anyone have any idea. This haunts me more than it is troublesome ;). Thanks, Alan P.S. The TS boxes being right next to the fileserver make me think it is not a connection loss, but I have read that a connection loss could cause this problem. Normally since no other user has gotten the lock, there is no problem for the user. I would think a connection loss would cause other problems.
