    - VFPOLEDB with Visual Foxpro fails for Paramerized queries Hi, I am using VFPOLEDB ( Visual Foxpro OLEDB provider) to connect to Visual Foxpro 8 using OLEDB interfaces in CPP . Normal queries like SELECT * FROM employees SELECT * FROM employees where employeeid=? SELECT employeeid,lastname FROM employees are working. But if I wrote a query like SELECT employeeid,lastname FROM employees where employeeid=? Preparation using pICommandPrepare->Prepare(0) is suceeding. But after that when I try to get the metadata of query using pIColumnsRowset->GetColumnsRowset, it is failing. It throws "Unspecified Error(E_FAIL)" But the same metadata command is working for all the above three working queries. If we are not getting metadata of queries and execute directly after prepare, it is working. Does any one face such an issue with VFPOLEDB? Does it require any additional setting of Properties.     - Which Framework? I am thinking of rewriting a commercial application to use a VFP framework. I am currently considering ProMatrix and Mere Mortals. Does anyone have any opinions on either of these products or can you suggest another product to look at? How does one actually make such a decision? Both seem good on the surface but this application is going to be sold commercially so it really needs to be well designed, relatively bug free, running on SQL Server, data dictionary, business rules etc etc etc. Or should I bite the bulet and move to Visual studio. I understand Mere Mortals have a .Net framework as well. Any opinions on this? Your opinions are appreciated.     - Displaying "Running Query" box suddenly ! Hi, I am using a VFP 8.0 Complied EXE file on a Win 98 PC which was running great since the past 3 months. Now suddenly since the past couple of days, whenever the PC is processing information in that application I get a Box with "Running Query...." and a progress bar! I have made no changes and have been running the same EXE for the past 3 months. This happens only on one PC and the other PC running this application has no such message. Please help!     - problem using CDO to send email I want to send emails from foxpro (using VFP 6.0, XP svc pack 2) and am trying to use CDO. I understand that all I need to do is configure Outlook express, then run the following code: oMSG = createobject("CDO.Message") oMsg.to = 'f7test@hotmail.com' oMsg.From = 'Bill@MarathonSoftware.com' oMSG.Subject = "Testing CDO email" oMsg.TextBody = "hello world" omsg.Send() I get the error: OLE IDispatch exception code 0 from ?; The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x80040217. The server response was not available. The code's simple, so my tendancy is to look at my SMTP configuration. But that seems fine, and I can send emails using outlook express. I've tried turning off firewalls, I've tried using a Win2000 computer, I've added statements to query the configuration. I'm not finding the cause to the problem. (My info on CDO comes from the book "Megafox: 1002 things...." and the foxpro Wikki.) I'm running this from a .prg. Any ideas, anyone?     - InstallShield and VFP8 I'm having 2 problems when trying to install an application that was created with InstallShield that came with VFP 8. First my disk will not auto run on any computer. This is acceptable as the user can click on setup.exe from the CD. Second, when the application is ready to install, installShield claims there is not enough diskspace.     - Web Development Hi All, I've been using most versions of Fox since v2.6. The time has come however when more and more of our clients want their applications to be used on the web. I've therefore been given the task of finding the most appropriate web development language to enable us to start converting (or re-writing as the case may be) one of our client's applications. The aim of this particular app is to enable the client's customers to log onto a web site, enter some data and for the app to give them back some data in return. It's an estimating app so the kind of of data being requested would be materials to be used, requested time scales etc, most fields should be lookup fields. The data given back would be estimated price, confirmation of availability etc. The data should then be posted to the backend database, at the moment VFP or possibly SQL Server (of which we have about 12 months experience with). There seems to be so many languages out there capable of doing this that we don't know where to begin. We have absolutely no experience of any web development languages whatsoever, but we are prepared to learn. We don't mind a steep learning curve as long as we retain the majority of control (not keen on wizard driven languages that work well as long as something doesn't go wrong).     - UNC links in email.. Probably not the best place to ask this question but I'm working on something that does a load of stuff silently but records its actions to a logfile table. When processing has finished I'm sending a plain text email with a message to the users. I was going to put a link in the email to my log viewer so they could just click to see the log. With this in mind I made the viewer take a command line parameter for the log id; so the message would look something like this. Dearest users, the automatic processing has finished; please view the log here: \\server\share\directory\myfoxprog.exe id_for_logfile_records_to_view The problem; as demonstrated above (if you have a newsgroup reader such as outlook express..) is that I cannot place a space in the command. I crossed my fingers and tried putting %20 in place of the space but it's not a HTTP URL and so it didn't work. My next thought was that I can write a batch file nd attach it which can handle having a space in it but it's not quite so neat.     - Append general problem WinXPPro SP2 VFP8 SP1 Create cursor curImage (gImage G) select curImage append general from f:\images\saturn.jpg I create report with picture control. I selected 'picture from field' option with 'curImage.gImage' as a source. Instead of picture I get text 'saturn.jpg' on report. When I browse curImage I also have text 'saturn.jpg' in field. I must double click on text to see picture. I usually use 'picture from file' option for these tasks but in this case I must use append general option (Customer request. Don't ask why.)     - HELP! I need VFP 6 VFPCOM.DLL I am reading yet another book from the Hentzenwerke publishing empire: "Microsoft Office Automation with Visual FoxPro". Chapter 13 mentions using VFPCOM.DLL. I was eager to follow the examples given. Complications ensued. It turns out that there are two VFPCOM that I have been able to find. One is supposedly for VFP 6 and the other for 8. Neither package has the file VFPCOM.DLL. This severely cramps my style. I am using VFP 6. I have googled and gone through the results, to no avail. Does anyone know where I can get this file? If you have it, please send me a copy. (Given the results of my search, I feel I am safe in asking like this: 50,000,000 copies are not going to be headed my way. <G>) Alternatively, I may be misunderstanding something.     - Foxpro for Windows - HELP needed I am currently running a FoxPro for windows application under Widows 95. I have a second system, and am trying to run the SAME application under Windows 95 but getting different results. The application runs - but when the first screen is displayed the cursor is not sitting at the first input field, therefore I must use a mouse to position the cursor in the field before I can enter the data. This program is identical on both systems - works fine in one - but not the other. As well, the first system - that functions correctly - has 32 mb of ram (90% free) While the second system -(running the same application) - has 64mb of ram (96% free) and I get an error indicating "insufficient memory" Is there somewhere that I can tell the system how much memory to allot to this application? I don't understand how the 2 systems running the SAME APPLICATION can be so different Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me. PS . Woody was able to help me resolve my previous problem.     - HELP - Foxpro for windows - Windows 95 I am currently running a FoxPro for windows application under Widows 95. I have a second system, and am trying to run the same application under Windows 95 but get the following On start-up the following error is displayed: "An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway click ignore and save work to a new file. To quit this program click close" If I click ignore - the application runs - but the cursor placement is different, and I eventually get an error indicating "Insufficient memory" - even though the new system has 64mb of memory, - 96% free, while the old system (which does work) has 32 mb memory, 90% free. The question is: 1. if the new system has a newer version of Windows 95 - is there a patch that will eliviate this problem? 2. is there a command somewhere that dictates how much memory is to be allocated to this application? At the end of the presentation, after I've told the attendees about the XML possibilities of Office 2003, I've two small demo's about transferring XML data from Office to the application by XML.     - Windows Server 2003 / Colors all wrong on forms! Does anyone know why colors would not appear correctly when running a program developed using VFP 7.0 through terminal services? For example, I have a grid which (depending on what data the user is looking at) could be either dark green, brown, or another shade of green. I only ever develop using the limited colors offered in VFP's color palette, so it's not like I'm doing anything outrageous! The dark green on the grid is appearing as black and as the font's forecolor is black this is obviously causing quite a problem!!     - VFP7 grid refreshing I have a niggly problem that comes up at least once a year and I still haven't found a satisfactory solution to it. If you have large data files which are displayed on a grid on a form, if the file is filtered, grid refreshing takes ages. I've kept grid refreshing to a minimum because of this. The niggle is that if you come into a screen, I want the file to stay on the record that was last viewed so I don't GO TOP or anything. This means that the current record always shows at the very top of the grid even if it's the very last record in the file and there are a few thousand more above it. I'm not sure why the grid does this. I know a solution, but it involves doing a GO TOP and refreshing the grid then going back to my stored record number. But this then causes a massive slow-down which we can't live with. Is there any other way of making the grid show the current record in the middle rather than at the top?     - View PDF in VFP Form, Edit Form Field, Capture PDF Form Data VFP8. We are once again looking at editing PDF forms inside of VFP. We are currently testing the pdf.ocx from Adobe in conjuntion with Gnostice's pdftoolkit. I have looked at a couple of other options such as iSedQuickPDF. Right now I am able to open a pdf file using Gnostice's pdftoolkit (the ocx is slapped on the VFP form) and programmatically populate the pdf formfields on the pdf form with data from our app using the Gnostice pdftoolkit. We then save the pdf form to disk and open it again in the form using the pdf.ocx. The Adobe pdf.ocx allows the user to edit the fields on the pdfform. If the pdf form is saved to disk, I can then grab the changes to the formfields on the form using the Gnostice pdftoolkit and save those changes to tables in our app. The problem we are encountering is that the Adobe activex ocx will only save the changes to disk if the workstation has the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed. If only Adobe Reader is installed then the pdf form is saved without any data. Of course, our goal is to capture the form field data changes and save those changes back to our app's tables. Since the Adobe ocx is providing the means of displaying and editing the pdf form fields, the Gnostice pdftoolkit on the form does not see the pdf form once it is loaded in the Adobe ocx (since it is in memory and not stored to disk yet after the changes are made) or its values. The pdf toolkit can only grab the form field valus once the pdf form is saved to disk again after the changes are done. Then we run into the problem of requiring the full version of Adobe Acrobat on the workstations so the adobe pdf.ocx will save the form with the data to disk so the toolkit can read the changes. Any ideas? We could handle it with purchasing two separate pdf tools if necessary. If that is the case, then we need a means of displaying the pdf form and allowing the user the means to edit the form fields on the pdf form, and then save the data to disk so the 2nd toolkit can readin the changes.     - VFP 8.0 and copying folders. Is there a native foxpro command to copy a folder and its contents to a different drive. I can only find examples that require WSH is installed on the target machine. I have about 2000 files to copy from a CD to the users harddrive. I need to do this from within the installation or from code. I would include all these files, but InstallShield Express hangs up when I try to drag the folder during creating a new project.
