KB299603, KB 818528 & KB294816 - Terminal Server application issues.
Hi,
I've got a problem where I receive a 1104 error in a FoxPro app that is
being run in the following configuration.
File Server (Server A) has a Share with a Foxpro App and data files.
Users are accessing the app and data from their desktops through the network
share.
Other users are opening a citrix session to a Terminal Server (Server B) and
then running the app from the share.
Some users are using remote desktop on server (Server C) to access the
application and data.
Users that are logged into Server B & C sometimes receive an error message
1104. (Error Reading File)
Server A, B & C are all Windows 2003 Servers
After doing research I found KB818528, KB299603 on the Microsoft website.
However it only mentions Windows 200 Terminal Services environment, although
the Symptoms are exactly right according to KB818528 & KB294816
Would the Hotfix that Microsoft can supply for these symptoms fix the
problem on Windows 2003 or is there an alternate Hotfix for a Windows 2003
Terminal Services Environment?
The sting in the tail is that there is a hefty charge to pay to contact the
support team and the solution given may not solve the problem as described
on KB818528.
Well if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. I
also have customers using the software in the above configuration and they
are also receiving the errors mentioned. They presumably would also have to
contact Microsoft support to fix this problem and I want to give them
correct advice if they need to contact and pay for Microsoft Support.
Many thanks in advance

filtering data from a dbf file
Hi,
Suppose I have the test.dbf file as given below. Group is of the form
Iteration x | y where x is the iteration number, and y is the some product
code number. Within each iteration I would like to sum the values at a
specific time for all the product numbers in that iteration, so my two (for
each iteration) output files look like given below. I hope this is clear. My
question: what code should I use. I am a total newby so any examples/samples
are welcome!
Cheers,
John.

Help! My apps cannot update itself on Windows Vista
Greetings all,
I have an application that runs fine. Problem begins when the owner change
his laptop to a new one and it comes with Windows Vista. Instead of
installing my application with Windows Installation, I copy the runtimes and
all required files manually. It runs fine on the first try, but on the next
day, the program simply refused to run. I put the data on the network and
access it via UNC. The program cannot found the data. Anybody knows the way
around this?
Thanks in advance,

Search using locate taking too long
I have a large local database (about 65,000 records) and need to be
able to populate a grid with continually updated information. The
search is performed so that partial names, and other info can be
entered in any order. As soon as the record appears enter will end
the interactivesearch. So in the interactivechange event of a text
field on the form I have placed the following code. In the setup form
I give the the user the option of turning off the incremental search
(interactivechange event).
"
IF butintch=.t.
loopvar=getwordcount(this.value)
filtervalue=''
FOR counter = 1 TO loopvar
filtervalue=filtervalue+'"'+ GETWORDNUM(this.Value,counter)+ '"'+" $
namepath and "
ENDFOR
filtervalue=UPPER(LEFT(filtervalue,LEN(ALLTRIM(filtervalue))-4))
SELECT karaoke
SET FILTER TO &filtervalue
GO top
thisform.grid1.refresh
endif
"
On a small database this works great but when used with a 65,000
record table the filter slows the program considerably. Is there any
way to perform a search such as this without using a filter to narrow
the results down. I realize that the continual calling of the set
filter to is causing the bottleneck but cannot see anyother way to
perform this kind of search. The field it is searching on is 150
characters. and includes the filename and path.
It is for a karaoke song look up. The file structure is such that
directories could appear as below.
c:\karaoke\full discs\ah8001
and an example filename would be
ah8001-01 - Healey, Jeff - Angel Eyes.zip
The use might only remember that some guy named Jeff sung a song about
eyes and the disc number was 8001
So with the above search box I could type in
"
jef eye 8001
"
and the program would narrow it down to this file.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Tag: Great website to start IT Certifications like MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, A+ Tag: 240356
Executable file size differs depending on OS of box it is compiled on
Here is something that I've not seen before. We have a simple
executable based on a .prg with about 2000 lines, including comments
and blank lines. On an XP Pro box, it compiles into a 48K file. When
compiled on a Windows server 2003 box, using same copy of VFP and same
source and same project file, it compiles into a 33.5K file. The
difference is that in the big file, there is a block of zeroes from
2C00 to 5DFF. The smaller file doesn't have this, and the files are
virtually identical othewise. Why is this? I'm guessing it has to do
with size of the disk allocation units of the system drive of the OS
we are running, not so much as a difference between XP and Server
2003. Anyone know for certain? Tag: Great website to start IT Certifications like MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, A+ Tag: 240355
Inserting a symbol into a text field
In word you have the ability to insert special characters into your document,
(such as degree, care of, percent, etc) I have a client who would like to be
able to insert medical symbols into their text fields. These are saved as
either Character or Memo...I've searched the help file but can't find any
clue as to how to accomplish this, is this even possible in VFP 9?

Problem with resizing control
I have a FoxPro 9 application that has different controls on several
tabs. On one tab, I have a Treeview control. I want the control to
resize itself when the form is resized. When you are on the tab with
the Treeview control and resize the form, the treeview control resizes
itself just fine.
However, if you go to another tab and then come back, the treeview
control goes back to its original size. Actually, it starts off at
the correct size, then when all the controls on the tab are finished
loading, it resizes itself back to the original size. I have tried
tracing through the code, and there is nothing in the code which is
making it go back to the original size.
Any ideas how to correct this?

Public or static variables question
The book _1001 Things You Wanted to Know about Visual Foxpro_ has an
interesting application which is essentially a standalone command
window for FoxPro. You type in your commands and they are executed,
pretty much like in the regular command window. It seemed to me that
this would be a handy thing to have, but there is a problem that
limits its usefulness. The problem is that all variables created in
the command window are private and not static. So, you can't assign a
value to a variable and then use that variable.
For example, you can assign "Hello" to X, but then you can't use
MessageBox(X) because X isn't around any more.
The question is, is there any way to make all variables default to
global or static?

Kevin Clark

Report form to file does not release the file
I have inherited the following code. I use VFP 7 SP1.
lcReportFile = SYS(2015)+".tmp"
REPORT FORM INVOICE TO FILE (lcReportFile) NOCONSOLE
nTotPages = _PAGENO
IF FILE(lcReportFile)
DELETE FILE (lcReportFile)
ENDIF
The above code is called in a loop from another procedure, it simply gets
the data for the current invoice that will be printed and determines the
total page count for the report. The invoices are printed once a day in a
batch normally a batch is 50-60 invoices. Maybe once a month or it may be
as long as 2 months the user receives error 1705 File access is denied on
the DELETE FILE (lcReportFile) line.
Is there anyway to force the file to be release from the REPORT FORM
command? I assume that is what is holding it open.
Thanks

PowerPoint 2003 automation fails on 2007
VFP6 SP5 on WinXP Pro SP2
I have a class that generates PowerPoint presentations
via automation (VBA). It was designed using PowerPoint
2003. We now have some users who have Office 2007
installed and this automation (not surpirsingly) fails
on these machines with OLE errors.
Before I just dig into this to see what might need to
be changed to support PPT 2007, is there a document or
web page somewhere that specifically deals with the
differences in the object hierarchy, methods, and VBA
control between PowerPoint 2003 and 2007? I've done
some searching, but haven't come up with much.

Any way to launch an external program from VFP within a specific size window?
Hi,
Is there any way from VFP to, lets say for example, to open a Microsoft Word

I usually use the SHELLEXECUTE feature to launch external programs from VFP
but cannot find a way to do the above.

Playing .wav Files
I want to play two .wav files consecutively and smoothly so they
appear as one announcement to the user.
The following works, but is kludgy and relies on knowing the exact
length of the first audio message:
SET BELL TO 'Msg1.wav'
?? CHR(7)
=INKEY(3) && Allow 1st message to complete
SET BELL TO Msg2.wav'
?? CHR(7)
Without INKEY(), Msg2 plays before Msg1 completes. Is there a way to
tell when the first message ends? I tried to error-trap using FOPEN(),
but it opens the first file even when it's playing.
Thanks for any help.

Using Native VFP Tables and Network Performance
Hello and thanks in advance for the help.
We are using VFP 7.0 SP1 and native VFP tables. All users are running Win XP
Pro SP2 and our file server is running Win 2003 Server.
We are running a network with about 30 users. Each user has 3 or 4 VFP apps
open with each app opening up to 40 tables. Most tables have memo fields so
each table opens 3 files. There are some forms with private data sessions
that open their own copies of from 25-30 tables (with memo fields). Some of
these forms are opened and closed repeatedly throughout the day.
Are there any performance issues with using VFP tables and Win 2003 server
as I have outlined above? We are attempting to figure out why we are having
network performance issues and it has been suggested that the large number
of open files caused by the configuration that I have outlined could be
impacting network performance severely. Does anyone know if this could be
the case or if there are special configuration issues for Win 2003 Server
that should be applied when using a large number of native VFP tables.
Thank you very much.

Trying to implement a script?
Hi,
I'm using VFP 9.0 sp1 and I'm trying include the functionallity of a script
I have. The script lists details about the network card in a computer.
Specifically I'm having trouble getting the IP address of the computer.
Here is the VBS script I'm trying to mimic:
strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set IPConfigSet = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("Select * from Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration Where IPEnabled=TRUE")
For Each IPConfig in IPConfigSet
If Not IsNull(IPConfig.IPAddress) Then
For i=LBound(IPConfig.IPAddress) to UBound(IPConfig.IPAddress)
WScript.Echo IPConfig.Caption & chr(13) & _
"MAC Address: " & IPConfig.MACAddress & chr(13) & _
"IP Address: " & IPConfig.IPAddress(i)
Next
End If
Next
And here is the code I came up with:
#DEFINE WbemAuthenticationLevelPktPrivacy 6
strUser = "domain\administrator"
strPassword = "domainadminpassword"
strComputer = "computername"
strNamespace = "root\cimv2"
objWbemLocator = CreateObject("WbemScripting.SWbemLocator")
objWMIService = objwbemLocator.ConnectServer(strComputer, strNamespace,
strUser, strPassword)
objWMIService.Security_.authenticationLevel =
WbemAuthenticationLevelPktPrivacy
colNICSettings = objWMIService.ExecQuery ;
("SELECT * FROM Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration")
* ("SELECT * FROM Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration WHERE IPEnabled=True")
MESSAGEBOX(ALLTRIM(STR(colNICSettings.count)))
CREATE CURSOR NICSettings ;

NULL, ;
DNS_Domain c(25) NULL, DNS_Host_Name c(25) NULL, MAC_Address c(15) NULL, ;

FOR EACH objNIC IN colNICSettings
IF !ISNULL(objNic.IPAddress) THEN

NEXT
MESSAGEBOX(strNICSettings)
ENDIF
NEXT
BROWSE
MESSAGEBOX("Done!")
When I run this program it totally crashes VFP. Any ideas what I might be
doing wrong here? Can this be done?
Here is a link to the win32_networkadapterconfiguration class, which
describes the IPAddress property as a string array.

Internet - Take Advantage of Multiple Windows When Surfing
SUMMARY: Stop jumping back and forth between index pages by using several
browser windows.
Why use one web browser window when you can have multiple? If you have an
adequate amount of memory, open up several web browsers to maximize your
surfing experience.
One great way to do this is via a start page. Select a page from where you
would like to begin browsing, such as a table of contents or links page.
Now, instead of left-clicking on links or entries to view other pages,
right-click the links. From the pop-up menu that appears, look for something
like "Open in New Window" or "Browse in New Window." This starts up another
web browser window with the link you selected, keeping the original page on
the screen.
http://www.visitbazaar.com
VisitBazaar.com has you a browser application which gives the experience of
multi window surfing
simultaneously, and also increases the internet browsing speed. Tag: Great website to start IT Certifications like MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, A+ Tag: 240224
VFP 6.0 on 64-bit Windows Platform?
Any reason this would not work? I have a customer wanting to install a
64-bit Windows OS and is asking if our stuff will run on it. Any input
greatly appreciated. I have never seen any application software branded
specifically for 64-bit platforms, so I'm guessing that FOX would not care.

Is there any way, trigger or whatever that would allow me to index and set

oChart = oleapp.Sheets[1].chartobjects.add(50,225,550,300)
oChart.Activate()

OleApp.ActiveChart.SetSourceData(OleApp.Range("B12:M12"))
OleApp.ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.Add("Sheet1!$B$4:$M$4",2,.T.,.T.,.T.)
OleApp.ActiveChart.SeriesCollection[1].HasDataLabels = .T.

VFP9 grid date shows century even when century off
I have a grid where I need to set AllowCellSelection to .T. because one of
the columns has a checkbox that users can check/uncheck. Since setting
AllowCellSelection to .T., even though the other columns are set to ReadOnly
(and I've tried setting When ro return .F. also), if you click inside the
date column the century appears. It doesn't appear otherwise.
Any ideas?

SP1 did not solve my problems!
Well, looks like Vista SP1 did not solve any of my problems with VFP apps.
SET PRINTER TO name is very very slow on Vista computers over the network.
For some reason, opening a form and SELECT is VERY slow using Vista
workstations.
I was really hoping that SP1 would solve some of these issues, but evidently
MS didn't listen.
Or they just don't care about VFP anymore.
We just put www.openoffice.org on all of our computers! No more upgrade fees
for us!!!!!!

Netlib which I used before is now very expensive.
What can I use now to encrypt DBFs in Vista?

Window on top
Hello all and thanks in advance for the help.
I have an application that creates windows (forms) in response to external
events or messages. When a new form is created, I need it to appear on top
of any application currently running (both FoxPro and non-FoxPro). Is there
any way to make this happen?
The events that cause a window to be created are not initiated by user
interface events so the user is likely to have the application minimized
when an event occurs that would cause a window to be instantiated.
Currently, the windows often "pop under" existing applications and I need
them to pop over them.
Thanks,

WMI
Hi All,
I have been trying to use WMI to create a folder and share it during my post
executable procedure in my installer. Basically the idea is that if a
database does not exist and the user has designated this machine a the "file
server", create a folder to hold the database, share the folder and create a
new database in this folder.
The problem is that most of the WMI code appears to be in C, VB and Perl.
All of the scripts I have based my code on have language specific commands
that don't readily translate to VFP. Here is my code as it now exists
(tailored for test purposes). The code is still pretty rough. Running it
through the debugger, some intellisense is available but this confuses more
than it helps.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Listboxes ControlSource VFP8 SP1 VISTA
Is there a problem setting ControlSource to listboxes?
The code below doesn´t work. It selects the first field in the local view
vwAccActs as its source. Accesscode is the second field.
ThisForm.List2.ColumnCount = 1
ThisForm.List2.RowSourceType = 2
ThisForm.List2.RowSource = 'vwAccActs'
ThisForm.List2.ControlSource = 'vwAccActs.accesscode'
But if the same listbox is called with anothter code (below) it works just
fine.
ThisForm.List2.ColumnCount = 1
ThisForm.List2.RowSourceType = 2
ThisForm.List2.RowSource = 'VwAccGrps'
ThisForm.List2.ControlSource = 'VwAccGrps.accesscode' && accesscode is the

Is there any better replacement for UNTIL than DO WHILE .T.
I wrote the following code today that I don't like (even though I've written
code just like it many times)
DO WHILE .t.
lcCCFolio = INPUTBOX("Folio Number ")
IF EMPTY(lcCCFolio)
RETURN
ENDIF
lcCCFolio = "0000" + lcCCFolio
SEEK lcCCFolio
IF FOUND()
EXIT
ENDIF
ENDDO
I would have preferred something like
DO
lcCCFolio = INPUTBOX("Folio Number ")
IF EMPTY(lcCCFolio)
RETURN
ENDIF
lcCCFolio = "0000" + lcCCFolio
SEEK lcCCFolio
UNTIL FOUND()
Is there a better replacement for an UNTIL statement? Other coding options?
Thanks,
