    - Oracle ODBC driver from Microsoft vs Oracle Hi, I have some applications written in VFP9 accessing Oracle databases thru ODBC, for some unknown reason, I always install the ODBC driver provided by Oracle, but it seems to be more heavy and time consumming to install it, so I wonder how would it be to use the ODBC driver provided by microsoft that is already installed on any PC, has somebody onthe forum used the microsoft driver?     - Making a calling form invisible I have developed an Output class to handle reporting, exporting etc. This is called from scores of forms with a few parameters. After it has all been designed I have decided that I would like to make invisible whatever form calls the Output form. I can do this by: thisform.visible = .F. DO FORM <outputform> thisform.visible = .T. but I would like to avoid having to edit so many forms. Is there a way I can achieve this from the Output class without having to edit all these calling forms. I am NOT passing the calling form as an object parameter to the class. I wish now that I was!     - What's in the 71st byte of FXP files? We're using an utility who checks differences between FXP from different releases of a VFP software, and it uses a simple file compare logic. We cannot base that on "data and time modified" because these are unreliable, expecially after another utility recompiles all of the files. This morning we started noticing that the comparison found differences in all of the FXP even if we modified only a few, and the reason is that the 71st byte is always different from the past releases. It looks like something has changed in the output of the "compile xxx nodebug" command, starting from yesterday or today. Has anyone else had an issue as this? What could have triggered this situation?     - Tableupdate failure-index does not match..... I have a parameterized view. I put a few records in it. I update the records. I issue tableupdate. If I don't update the first record in the view, the tableupdate fails, and aerror() shows me Index does not match the table..., error 114. I know for a fact that there is nothing wrong with the index, and this only happens if I don't enter a value in the first record. I've seen this before, but don't remember where or when.     - Customzied papersize setting Hi all, I have defined a new label size for printing labels using barcode printer. It works fine in my pc when running my foxpro program. However, when it is printed from the others pc, the label size gets the other size although new label size is already set. I have tested many times by setting the default printer which refered to the new label size. It still failed. Finally, I discovered that it's the problem of papersize. My PC papersize for the new label is 134 and it works in my pc but not on the others. However, I have set the papersize to 154 and it doesn't work on my pc, but it works on one of my colleagues pc. The problem is very intermittent and in most cases once the error has been received you can re-enter the program and execute the same function and have it work fine.     - Vista and Elevation Hello all! I have been working for 2 days trying to figure out how to change my application (written in VFP9) to work with Vista. The first objective is writting to the registry. The way our application works... the first time you launch it, it asks for a Code. The user enters this code and the program saves it to the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. This works great under XP. This way if they change users or they are running terminal server, they all find this entry in the same location. In order to write to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Vista, you must be elevated to Administrative level. I have read several articles on how to achieve this, but the common belief is to create a separate program that can be run from your main program. This new "separate" program should be setup to require administrative rights using a manifest file. Now the trick I needed to pull off was to be able to call this program and wait for it to close. I tried a few solutions... but the one that seemed to work best for me was to create a third program. This third program will be a COM Object accessable by Foxpro, with the sole purpose of running the "separate" program mentioned above and wait for it to close. I call the COM Object from VFP and it stops the VFP programs execution until the separate program is closed. Perfect! It seems like I found the answer.. but because I knew it had to be too good to be true I decided to test a little. I created two shortcuts on my Vista desktop. Both shortcuts run Foxpro 9, but one is flagged as "Run as Administrator" and labeled "Admin". The other shortcut runs as Standard User is titled "Standard". When I run the Standard VFP shortcut and execute the Com Object, everything is perfect. Life if great! Now I tried to run the VFP shortcut "Admin" and access the COM Object. Here is where the problem is..... Class definition x.y is not found Help! I don't know what to do next. When I run the "Admin" shortcut, Vista prompts be to "Allow / Cancel". It is elevating my instance of VFP to Admin level. But when I attempt to execute the COM Object it cannot find the class definition. Any ideas on how to get around this "little" problem?     - Winsock and ip address changes Hi and thanks in advance for the help. This isn't strictly a Fox question but since I develop in Fox I thought I'd see if any of you have any ideas about this. I use the MS WinSock control. One of the properties is LocalIP which should be your machine's IP address. It is set by the control and not changeable in code. My application stopped working and I was looking at the LocalIP property. It said 0.1.4.0 instead of 192.168.0.33 which is my correct ip address (fixed, no dhcp involved) Once I rebooted, the LocalIP went back to 192.168.0.33 I'm curious as to how it got changed. Did I have some poorly behaved software? Did my machine need a re-boot and the funny IP Address was a symptom? Is something more evil going on? If anybody knows anything about this please tell me.     - Upgrade from VFP 6 to 9 - RUN command fails I have the RUN command in a long-standing app that I am now running under VFP 9 for the first time, but even from the command window, a simple RUN cmd or RUN command both fail. I'd appreciate suggestions on what to look into next. The RUN command is an integral part of this application and we need it to work. If I do a DIR <batchfilename> from within VFP 9, the file is there, and I can edit it from a cmd window (which I just did) and save my changes, and I also just ran it from a cmd window, but this is a cmd window opened by the operating system (me clicking on the shortcut on my desktop labeled "dos box") and not from within VFP 9.     - Sending report to file I have a large VFP application I inherited. There is a function I made to create a PDF from a report and email the PDF file. I send the output to a file using the command REPORT FORM MyReport NOCONSOLE TO FILE MyResultFile.ps I then use GhostScript to create a PDF. Everything works fine the FIRST time, but the next time I run the REPORT FORM command, the output is sent to the default printer and not a file. In trying to find the problem, I have used DISPLAY MEMORY TO FILE both times to compare the contents of memory. I have done the same with DISPLAY STATUS. I do not see any glaring differences that would prevent the output to a file the second time around. If I exit the application and reenter each time, the report is sent to a file successfully. It only fails if I _don't_ exit the application and it only fails after the first run. I have verified the printer is being set correctly and the SET('PRINTER', 3) is the printer with the postscript driver. This definitely seems like a bug in VFP since a file is not created and the REPORT FORM command should produce a file because of the "TO FILE". Any ideas?     - VFP9: Weird Event Issue A central part of my app is the Invoicing Wizard. It gives the operator a display of Work Orders and the opportunity to select one for invoicing. Because of the nature of the business, there are many things to check before invoicing, so the form has thirty-two buttons. While this might seem to be a good entry for the Interface Hall of Shame, it does work rather well. (Yes, I have used the app as well as having written it.) There is a peculiar behaviour that I noted when working on a related matter. Each Work Order listed has a textbox next to its details. Putting a "Y" in it selects the Work Order for invoicing. The textbox has input validation for whether it will allow the Work Order to be selected for invoicing. Among the things that is checked is the Work Order Type. If it is "E", then a messagebox asks whether this is what was really intended and should the system change the type to "F". If yes is chosen, the Work Order is updated and so is the display. If not, the Work Order is not selected. If "Y" is entered into the textbox, focus is moved off it (say, with <Tab>), and then the "Generate Invoice" button is clicked, invoicing will start. However, if "Y" is entered into the textbox, but focus is not first moved off the textbox before clicking "Generate Invoice", when the Work Order Type is "E", the messagebox will appear, a yes response will result in the Work Order and the display being updated, BUT invoice generation will not start. The focus will be on the Generate Invoice button, but the button's click will not get executed. My question is why does the button's click not get executed.     - SQL query problem with character comparison. Hi, I have a problem in Foxpro. We have a query like Select * from Account, Bank where alltrim(account.bank_id) = alltrim(bank_bank_id) and alltrim(account.Bac) = alltrim(Bank.Bac) and alltrim(Bank.Bac) = '0000991' and not Deleted() Bank table has a column Bac which is type Charater(7). The application always inserts 7 charactes in this column. Eg. for 71 it will insert 0000071. But i have some records in the table which are marked deleted and they have bac column as 0001 i.e is less than 7 characters. The problem is above query does not return a result set even though there are records present. Moreover if i pack the table Bac, the query works fine. I also tried changing the query to Bank.Bac = '0000144'. Initially it worked fine and returned me 400 records. Then i zapped 300 records from account and executed the query. this time it agan gave me no records. By some trial and error i found that the modified query worked if there were more than 170 records. For any less it gave blank recordset.     - focus.fll and vfp9 I used focus.fll in my vfp7 application, and there are hundreds of users out there. I used 2 functions (fil_encrypt and fil_decrypt) to encrypt and decrypt personal information. (I also used fil_open and fil_create but haven't started to worry about these yet). I am in the process of moving this application to vfp9 and of course focus.fll is no more. My dilemma is how to enable users to transfer their data. I don't really want to have to supply a separate vfp7 exe with runtimes to convert the data, but can't get a response from fastwrite.com about purchasing the source code for these functions.     - How to APPEND FROM XLS for Cell with formula? Good day everybody, I am using VFP8.0 and Excel 2002. I have been using VFP program to use APPEND FROM to read Excel file and fill my DBF with data. So far I have no problem with that. However due to end-user request to minimize data entry work, I replace one of the Excel column with formula VLOOKUP to get some data from Excel table in the same workbook. Now I couldn't get the result upload into DBF file. I get a black box and first letter of the result only. I will appreciate if some one can guide me to solve the problem.
