    - Not enough memory message when joining source control project File -> Join source control project. This is a large project with several thousand files. VFP apparently does a get latest on the PJM file, builds a new PJX., and then does a get latest on everything in the PJX. When it finishes, I get "There is not enough memory to complete this operation". At the time this occurs, VFP is consuming 20MB physical memory, 10MB swap file, 209 GDI objects, and 2911 USER objects. This last entry concerns me, as 2911 USER objects is quite high and is probably why the error occurs. VFP will normally have less then 100. Historically, excessive USER or GDI usage is a result of poor programming, bugs, or memory leaks. I also think that this should work, even if it is using a lot of USER resources. Win2000/XP doesn't have the terminal USER or GDI limits that Win9x had, so I'm thinking that the problem here is internal to VFP. Also, it works for some of us, and not for others.     - Tables with buffering VFP 80 Sp1 XP My form allows the user to add a record. (In this case to the zip code table). I control my "Save" and "Undo" according to certain rules. If the user enters a zip code that is already in the table, I want to prevent the "Save" from enabling. However, on the LostFocus of the textbox for the zip code, I will automatically save the record when I seek that code. How do I determine if that zip code codes not already exist?     - _Screen.Image When an Image object is added to the _screen to show some picture or graphic and a user later runs a report in Preview mode, periodically the image object on the _screen, continues to show the report preview image even after the report preview has been released. It is as if the graphic image from the report preview window, overlays, changes or corrupts the PICTURE of the IMAGE object on the _screen. Has anyone else seen this behavior/bug, and if so, any ideas what causes it or how to fix it short of destroying the _screen.image object and re-adding it to _screen?     - Sql Server Question Assuming I have a table stored in SQL server. What is the best technique advised as to searching for a particular record since the Seek command can not be used. The two options that comes to my mind is the Locate and the set filter command. If the particular field I am searching for has been defined in SQL server as being an index key, how can one perform a search that would not be considered sequestial and move the record pointer to the record desired as in the seek command.     - displaying records through a preview window Hi, what and how would be the easiest way to display records in a pre-formatted preview window in vfp6.0? before with 2.6, i redirect the formatted report to a text file, viewing the result through 'modi comm (text output file)' and terminating the preview report throught the ESC button. With 6.0, i've heard of so many ways to implement it, i dont know now what to use as my standard program procedure?     - Cryptor IV fll file I can't seem to get a response from Xitech on the issue but they advertise the Cryptor IV is compatible with VFP 8 but there is not an fll for VFP8 included in my copy. Is there an fll for VFP8? And if so does anybody have it and can I get a copy. This should not be a problem as I can't use the fll without a legit copy of he rest and I have that and all. But it makes it a little hard to use the product in VFP8 without the fll since you have to have the proper version of the dll for each version of VFP that is supported.     - textbox focus (VFP6 unpatched) In one form, after going through a few events, a textbox.setfocus() was called, with textbox.format="K". Though the textbox got focus, the text inside was not selected (note the textbox.format) and sometimes, even the cursor is not inside the textbox, going somewhere. sometimes, the textbox, while in focus, didn't echo the text I inputted, though beneath the "surface", it's taking the input.     - Complicated form with many search options Hello, I'm creating a form to manage serialized goods. The form shows data from 9 different tables. I also need to allow the user to search on a combination different parameters: Serial number Description GL Accounts Payment Due date Retail price Received Date AP Invoice # Categories They can search on as many or as few as they want. When faced with a form of this complexity, is it best to go with a CURSOR and update the records by hand, or is it best to use a view. The downside of the cursor is that it requires more work to commit the changes to the back end table. The advantage is that I have a lot more flexibility with my query statement. The downside of using a view is that I have to include all parameters in every search whether the user search on it or not. The advantage is that I can bind a view to the form itself and TABLEUPDATE() will handle the changes for me. Another problem is that a couple of my search fields are variable list matches that I make with a sub query against a temporary cursor and this might be difficult with a view (a variable table name parameter?)     - Local View modification on a remote database I have a local view stored in a database which needs to be modified. Unfortunately the database is in a remote location and I have no access to it. My first thought was to write some code and let it run on the remote location to modify the view. Unfortunately I cannot find anything how to change a view with code, I even do not know how to access it or where it is stored. Download the data, modify the view and upload againg is not possible.     - Custom sized reports Hello; I have a situation where a client has started the process of upgrading workstations from Windows 98 to XP. Currently they are about 50% complete. The problem we are having is that custom sized report forms (ie cheques), do not print correctly from the XP stations (their alignment is off slightly, ie off millimeter for every page). The project is compiled under Windows 98. I see a few potential solutions. 1) recompile under XP - I am concerned that the 98 stations will have issues than, and currently, they are the critical stations. 2) do all special form printing from the 98 stations until the upgrade is complete and than recompile uner XP and adjust the forms as required. I do not like either of these options. I was wondering if anyone has seen this and knows of a work around. The version of Foxpro I am running is 5.0b. Any ideas are welcome.     - Referncing a table not in the current datasession Using VFP 8 --- Is there anyway to reference (or view in the VFP debugger) a table or object in a specific data session - without changing the datasession? The same table can be open in multiple datasessions, so we are trying to find a way -in code- to view information about a table, or an object, that is specific to one datasession. It would make debugging much easier. Yes, you can use the DataSesson window (or the SET command) to flip back and forth between datasessions, but we are looking for a way -in code- to reference a table or object that is not in the current data session. (VFP 8.0) I have been successful in re-creating the binary files for forms and classes, but whenever a report is being processed, there is an error in the following method "HexStr2BinStr". I have been able to determine that when the ascii file (.fra) is written, any binary objects are stored using Sys(2007) (creating a Checksum), which is then passed to HexStr2BinStr prefixed with "CHECKSUM=".     - Inkey()??? Hello, I have inheritted some code. This program is written in Visual FoxPro 6.0. The function inkey() is used in several areas of the program and I still have not been able to figure out it's purpose. I would postpone to investigate this had it not been for one particular one causes errors every no and then. Got to love those inconsistent ones where debuggin takes 4 times as long and in my case still not solved. I checked FoxHelp and all it has is: Returns a number corresponding to the first mouse click or key press in the type-ahead buffer. It doesn't explain why anyone would want to use it. If there is anyone who can tell me what the inkey() function's purpose is, and what possibly could cause the following error message for the following code segment code: =inkey(1) error: Function argument, value, type or count is invalid.     - Help distributing and app (VFP8) Hi, I'm having a difficult time sending a small vfp8 application (EXE) to a friend. See the thread: What files to distribute? for background info. I created a SETUP.EXE using InstallShield Express (ISE) and sent it to my friend. He ran it and got the same error as when I tried sending him the individual files. The message is: "A required DLL file, MSVCR70.DLL was not found." I had previously sent him this file outside of ISE. What I'm not sure of is if the necessary support files were actually included in the ISE Setup.exe file or not. I didn't see any place to explicitly include these files so I had to assume ISE took care of that for me. The only file I included was the EXE that VFP built for me. Anyway, since the setup didn't work, I'm back to square one. I'd just as soon send the individual files and skip ISE altogether as it seems more complicated and with more black magic when using it. Can someone help with this? At this point I'm totally confused. I don't know which way to turn. Why do I get the above message even when MSVCR70.DLL is present?     - mapi mail xp-win2k domain - woes Hello All, I wasn't sure where to list this so please excuse if I picked the wrong category. I'm trying to get mapi mail inside my fox app to work at my customer's location. It works find on my development machine.....here's the details. I've tried several things and listed them all so please be patient....... The situation: xp pro client win2k server domain the client pc has two logon's possible. One is the administrator belonging to the local machine name and the other is the username belonging to the domain. My first attempt was to run fox.reg looged in as a domain user. This fails because no admin rights to local machine (or so it tells me - could it have meant domain rights here?). I'm hoping the registry modification(fox.reg) if made as administrator will work also for the user so I give this a try. I installed it (fox.reg) on local machine logging in as the adminstrator. I log back in as the user and mapaimail is not working - no messages it simply acts like either mapi is not talking from vfp or the mail program outlook express or eudora is not listening. So I dig deeper and try more. When I look at the control panel I see the user does in fact have admin rights on the local machine but when I look at the user on the win2k box (domain) they do not have admin rights. Still not working. I read somewhere that rights need to be the same on both the xp and win2k systems, So I change the domain to also give them admin rights by adding them to that group. I log back in as the user and the mapimail mods I've made still don't work. I'm suspecting it's the supervisor / user / domain security issues. I think I should try to install fox.reg again as the user now that I've changed the domain to recognize the user a an administrator. - nope it states something similar to "already in use".     - importing fixed field asci data I have a bunch of files from the post office that are all in fixed field length asci (no seperates). I have created a database with the correct length fields for each of the data fields to go into but cannot see what type of table I should say I am appending from.     - using KEBOARD into a EditBox with InputMask I'm trying to enhance my TouchScreen Entry form by allowing an InputMask on the data entered. Basically, my customer would like to be able to do simple input masking (like A9A-9A9 for Canada Postal Codes) in order to make it a little more difficult for the entry operators to screw up. That is a trivial operation when entering with a keyboard, but when entering data with my TouchScreen Entry form is where I'm running into difficulties. Basically, I have a Form with a button for each letter (laid out like a QWERTY keyboard) that enters the 'keys' touched into a TextBox. I thought that it would be a simple matter of Setting Focus to the TextBox (with an InputMask), then passing the keystroke with a "KEYBOARD cKeyPassedIn" command. Unfortunately, the cursor is always on the first position, so it 'inserts' the newly-entered character in the first position. I tried to manually attempt to keep track of where the last character is and force the cursor to that position with a "TextBox.SelStart = nLastCursorPosition" command. I managed to get most of it working, but when attempting to backspace to correct an incorrect entry, I ran into the problem of keeping an accurate nLastCursorPosition, because a cKeyPassedIn could be quietly rejected because it isn't a valid InputMask data-type. I tried to sense this by capturing the BeforeValue+cKeyPassedIn to the TextBox.ControlSource variable. During the general Method that does this 'simple' KEYBOARD operation, I haven't been able to get an accurate TextBox.Value or value of the TextBox.ControlSource. They both seem to be either empty, or what was there BEFORE the current operation. Is there a better way to do this? More specifically, is there a way that will work?     - SQL field limit 255 I upsized a Foxpro table with exactly 255 fields to a SQL server DB. Eventhough, I received a warning, It was successful. Then I manually wrote a script to upsize the 255 fields from the same table to another SQL server database and that was OK also. The problem is this. When I create a local database and set a remote to both databases, the one that was upsized by Foxpro is fine. The one that I upsized manually gets an error stating that I have more than 255 fields. I view both tables in the SQL server and they seem to be Identical. I even matched the SQL script generated from foxpro to the one I created manually and that seems to match.     - FPD2.6A Can't Tell Time :) I have a strange and frustrating (really, really frustrating) problem. I have a point of sale app that stores the date and time of sales as they occur. Many of our clients operate their POS terminals until about 2AM --- Here's the bug that has been happening... Sometimes FPD gets the wrong date! Ok, so I'm thinking maybe in the microsecond between when it pulls down the date and pulls down the time maybe the date changed. So if it is within 5 seconds of midnight, it actually just goes to sleep and waits for the new day. But still it sometimes gets the wrong date! I have a transaction right now I'm looking at that happened 9 seconds after midnight, but it reported the day as being from the day before --- can it take 9 seconds for the date to catch up with the seconds???? So I wrote code to store away what it's seeing as the date and time... (I'm using sys(2) to get the seconds, and date() for the date) 7/26/04 00:00:01 7/26/04 00:00:02 7/27/04 00:00:03 7/27/04 00:00:04 Sometimes it's 2 seconds, sometimes as much as 10 seconds!! What is going on??? Has anyone else seen this? I'm thinking of testing it with VFP, but it's probably an irrelevant problem because I'd use datetime() instead... Anyone have any ideas of a workaround here?     - Terminal Server Issues I'm hoping someone can shed some light on some problems I'm encountering on one specific client site running Terminal Server. We have other TS production environments running our app successfully without a hitch. At this one site, however, the user receives an "Invalid path or file name" program error when trying to launch the app. Our installation hasn't changed in quite some time and, as previously stated, works successfully everywhere else. Could someone please throw out some ideas of what I need to look at in troubleshooting their installation? It looks like all the VFP runtime classes have been successfully registered and all the necessary files that are loaded upfront (i.e. help file, Foxtools) exist in the EXE's directory. Kinda stumped! Does anyone Know how to get node information such as text value when user clicks on a node from DBI-Tech ctTree activex control? ALso how do you know if the node you clicked on is a parent or child node?
