    - Member object removed -- cannot complete the Save operation error message Hello Has anyone seen this error message, and what do you do to fix. In my one form I occasionally get this message, no object was remove just some method code changed. If I rebuild the project it will lockup when compiling this form.     - VFP6 .dbc Validation Errors It is nice to finally have FK RI working. This leads to the next questions which deal with error recovery. 1) If a column constraint is violated (error 1582), I get back a text message, but the column name would be nice, too. (Yes, I could simply return the column name and look up that in an error message table, but I am hoping for something simpler.) 2) Is it possible to find out which trigger failed? If I have a table with two FKs, how do I tell which is wrong? In this case, there is no unique text returned. Even getting the column name would help. (If I violate the uniqueness primary key constraint, error 1884 returns the column name. I want something like that here.) 3) Is there any guarantee of which order the constraints are checked / the errors are thrown? If not, what has been your observation of the order?     - Compiler Error I've compiled my application, and gotten rid of all of the compiler errors except one. I have a report that uses an external array in the fields, and the compiler reports "myarray UNDEFINED". I have other forms that use external arrays, and I simply put an EXTERNAL command in. But I don't know where I can place an EXTERNAL command in a report so that it doesn't come up with the compiler error.     - VFP 9 - ODBC and C# I am creating an app that uses C# to access web services on the Net, I have my base data in VFP 9 tables, I want to bind a list box from the C# module with a username picked from the VFP tables. When I go to set up a VFP driver in ODBC it tells me to go download the latest ODBC drivers from the msdn site.     - Exe Problem I just compiled my project into an .exe with vfp9/sp1. I installed it on a server. The application runs fine on that box. However, I wish to run the application on the workstations. I map the network drive on the workstation and place a shortcut on its desktop which points to the .exe on the server and the working folder is the same as the .exe on the mapped drive. When I click on the shortcut on the workstation, it just beeps at me. Clicking on the .exe in Windows Explorer produces the same results (or should I say, non-results). What am I doing wrong?     - TableValidate question I've been having some read errors in files over the network and I saw that someone suggested setting TableValidate to 0 for no validation. The help file, though, says the following about TableValidate: "You must first open the table exclusively before using the SET TABLEVALIDATE command." I don't understand what that means because you can open a table in shared mode after your set tablevalidate to 0. Does it mean that TableValidate is ignored unless a file is opened exclusively?     - vfp/webservices/web gardens We have a vfp exe running as a com server fronted by web services. This runs and works fine. However when we increase the number of worker processes in the web garden the responses get slower and slower. Eventually errors are returned as the requests time out.     - How do I retrieve an old menu version from SourceSafe? I am getting bizarre behavior in my FoxPro app, so I'm trying to go back to a previous version of code. I want to get an old version of my menus and then look at them to see if they contain the expected version of the setup code. I do Show Differences on the two most recent versions of my menu, and it shows me that the old version contains the code I want to execute and the new version contains the suspicious code. So I get the old version. Then, in the menu editor, I open the menu, and it has the newer, suspicious code!     - Database Design and Key Fields Hi All, My table design's usually takes this kind of format. LookupTable nUniqueID N 10 cCode C 10 cDescription C 40 where nUniqueID is automatically updated by my code when a new record is added and is unique to that table. cCode is unique and added by the user, cDescription is just that, any old description. I'd then have a transaction table for example TransactionTable nUniqueIID N 10 cCode C 10 otherfields again nUniqueId is unique to that particular table, cCode however, is the link to cCode in the LookupTable. This design has worked well for me for more years than I care to remember. However, one customer now wants cCode in the lookup table not to be unique. Not a major problem, just modify my code to store nUniqueID from the lookup table, rather the cCode. My question is basically, how do you guys design your table's for this sort of scenario. I appreciate that I could use nUniqueID from the lookup table instead of cCode, to store in the transactions table, but for support purposes, it just seems easier to - BROWSE FOR cCode = "A001" rather than nUniqueId = 123487 Cheers All Justin Tag: Contracting in the UK Tag: 220330

    - Publishing Fox Web Services Hello all: in WinXP/Fox9/IIS (client) and Win2003/IIS6 (server). I am trying to get web services working and having trouble. The web service works sucessfully (locally) on the client computer. I have two questions: 1. When I am publishing the web service from the Task Pane, in the "advanced" tab there is a "namespace" page. What are these fields for and how should they be filled in? Is it necessary to modify these to make the web service work? 2. After publishing locally, I copy the .dll and the .wsdl and the other files over to the server. In IIS on the server, I go to "web service extensions", add the .dll as a web service and select "allow". I verify that IUSR_computername has read/excecute access but I receive timeout errors when trying to run the service from clients. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.     - Outlook "A program is attempting to send..." Message Using the latest versions or VFP, XP, and Outlook. I'm trying to automate the sending of email notifications via a VFP application using Outlook. When trying to send the composed e-mail I get the dreaded "A program is attempting to send the following e-mail message on your behalf" message prompt halting the operation and waiting for a Yes No response.     - App focus is lost on startup I have a VFP6 app that loses focus when it is first started. If I start it from explorer, explorer retains the focus If I start from a shortcut on the desktop, with no other apps open, its seems that nothing has the focus (no function keys do anything and alt printscreen does not clip anything) The app starts with some code that opens a form which is set to run as a top-level form in the desktop, the code then waits at a read events statement till the form is closed.     - Non-standard Characters I occasionally need to enter non-standard (U.S. anyway) characters for people's names. Can VFP 9.0 handle that in typical text/memo fields? And, if so, how would I enter that? Some sort of CTRL or ALT combination?     - Remote view / cursor oddity I just ran into something that I don't understand. VFP 8 SP1, although I doubt that matters. With nothing open in the data environment, open a remote view: USE track IN 0 ALIAS track_curs * At this point 'track_curs' is the only thing open. * The following statement apparently reads data from track_curs, * since when it completes there is no alias 'track' open. SELECT * FROM track WHERE ... INTO CURSOR xxx * At this point 'track_curs' and 'xxx' are open. * Likewise, the following statement inserts into track_curs: INSERT INTO track ..... If the initial USE is removed, the SELECT will silently open the remote view 'track' and leave it open, and the INSERT will insert into that remote view, which is the expected behavior.     - msword merge with foxpro table Hi, I've made a "msWord template" with multiple collums and a connection to a foxpro table. which works fine. I've then set up a loop to alter the Word template and "saveas" with different tables contents. which also works fine. But, and here it comes, I use OfficeXP my client uses Office 2000 ? Each time the template opens and tries to connect to the table (in the background) the template ask which type of table it is, and the my client as the option to choose Dbase or Foxpro table ! Can this be done programmatically ? Or can somebody translate this to foxpro readable code and that it can be used with Office 2000.     - rich text control crashing We have a situation where our app is crashing on hundreds of workstation. I have narrowed the problem to the rich text control and the data. Do this: Create a form. Put an ActiveX Control (OleControl) on the form. Select Microsoft Rich Textbox Control 6.0. I tried SP4 and SP6, as I have both on this box. Set it's control source to zz1. Put a command button on the form. Put this in the click method: ZZ1 = '\01/05/2006 12:04:17 bad' THISFORM.OLECONTROL1.Refresh Run the form. Click the button. Set focus to command window with mouse (click on command window), then click back on form. We get c0000005 every time. I tried it with different versions of the control.     - "Do Dialog" on exe startup over network We have run into a new problem in an exe application (VFP 7) that has been in use for many years. A customer tried to launch our application on a network file server (Win 2K SP3) on a Win XP client and received the FoxPro window and a "Do Dialog" box...The exe didn't start normally, as it had for many months on his system. I saw a similar story on a Google search with a VFP 5 application. This is not an issue with his system path containing invalid ";" character or missing path directories. This just happend two weeks ago tomorrow. If he moves the application (exe and associated files) to a different server he has, Win 2K SP4, it works. He has 50 client Win XP stations and that all work or don't, and moving it to a different server is all that is needed for it to work...So it is something about his server. Does anyone have an explanation why this happens? We would like to know in case this comes up again. You see, i created a report that is being printed on pre-printed forms and since 90 is doing an automatic resizing of the fonts/boxes/alignment, some of the data are now printed outside their designated area in the pre-printed form. Is there another way for me to turn this capability (automatic resizing) off but can still support the ReportListener?     - PageFrame behaviour problem. I have a top level form with a PageFrame containing several pages. On a page I have several text boxes for data entry. The tab order has been set to progress through the text boxes by pressing <Enter> I find that the progression is not linear and that the cursor gets lost until repeated <Enter> brings it back into sequence. The only solution I have found is to put a SetFocus to the next text box in the LostFocus event of the preceding text box. With this method, it is then no longer possible to navigate to another page in the PageFrame until repeated clicks of the new page tab complete the sequence of LostFocus events in the active page's text boxes. Now that i'm using VFP9, the reports generated are either resized or stretched and have different font size. I found out that setting the SETBEHAVIOR to 80, the reports generated are now okay. May I know what is the maximum subqueries that foxpro can handle? Hi All,

I've been considering for a while contracting here in the uk. I've a
mixed range of Foxpro DOS/Windows v2.60, Visual FoxPro v6 through to
v9, SQL Server, MySQL and recently a bit of C#, all prodominantly in an
client facing accounts environment. Has anyone else here experiance on
the contractor market here in the uk? How would I go about setting
myself up as a contractor, finding contracts etc. Is there a call for
the skill set I possess? Or would I be better off finding a permanent
position?
