    - SQLSETPROP / DisconnectRollback in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dtytxez4.aspx Microsoft describes the new property <DisconnectRollback> in VFP 9. When for example the system crashes open transactions are rolled back. The default setting does not do that and also the previous VFP Versions dont support that. Unfortunately I have to develope some projects with older versions of VFP than version 9. So my question is: Is it possible to achive the same effect by using for example ODBC-API functions like o SQLSetConnectOption oder o SQLSetConnectAttr o ... If it is possible how is it done exactly ? I tried to debug this by using an open source odbc-driver but none of the exported functions was called when executign the command: SQLSETPROP(oApp.hCon, 'DisconnectRollback', .T.)     - Killing a process I found some code on here a while ago ( i can't remember who posted it), which allowed you to kill a named process on a computer. As i was creating a new part of our package that lived in a seperate executable at that time, i decided to incorporate it. i recently found that the code had a slight flaw when used in a terminal server environment, where it will kill everyones process, not just the process for the user who was running it. So i did some research and came up with the following. ERROR: (1440) OLE exception error: Exception code c0000005. OLE object may be corrupt The error occurs when trying to make the getOwner call, which occording to the documentation should return a number other than 0 if it fails. instead it occasionally errors. This behavoiur would appear to be a security issue, as so far it only happens to people with user rights on the terminal server environment. So in order to get over this, i will now have to trap this error, which should never have happened in the first place! unless someone knows a work around or another way of achieving this? anyway i hope this saves someone else some heartache.     - VFP: Finding Name of Executable I am using Adobe Acrobat to print to PDF. To do this, I have to write to the Registry the name of the executable. How do I determine this? My thoughts so far: If the app is running as a collection of .fxp files under VFP, then VFP is the actual executable. How do I find out the name of the VFP executable? (I mean the name of the .exe that is VFP.) If the app is running as an .exe, then sys(16,1) does it. If the app is running as an .exe under VFP, then VFP is the actual executable (I think). I can distinguish between this case and the one before using version(2). I think there might be other possibilities such as .app. (I have never used a .app, nor do I even know how they are created.) There is also the possibility of one .exe calling another and on and on. If I have the first three above, that should do it for my case, and I need them anyway before experimenting with the rest. This is somewhat important as my app printing will not work properly under the full VFP. This means that I would not have access to the debugger and that I would have to build the .exe each time I want to test anything to do with PDF printing.     - Coming from FPW 2.6 (2nd part) 1) I am migrating my old FPW 2.6 application to VFP 9 just as it is, and when I use the BROWSE command I see on screen that the columns are not wide enough to comfortably accomodate the strings. However, if I double-click with the mouse on the square in the upper left corner just under the title bar of the browse window, all the columns become wider, and can be read easily. How can I achieve the same without intervention of the user by double-clicking? Is there a command that I can include in my program ? 2) when I issue REPORT FORM xxxx PREVIEW NOCONSOLE the report opens by default in a non-maximized window. How can I zoom to maximize without having to handle the mouse? How can I close the preview window by pressing Escape instead of clicking on the little window with the open door?     - Bug in VFP 7 SP1 to watch out for!!!! Am I the only one who didn't know this? I have some test code that creates text files that begin with the letters CO and have no extension. So these files would be "CO*." When I do a directory for these files using DIR CO*. I get a list of the text files that I created. When I then type ERASE CO*. it does the same as if I had typed ERASE CO*.* I don't know if VFP 9 is similarly affected but this could be potentially very bad. Of all commands in the world that should know the difference between xxx*. and xxx*.* erase would be the most important. Also, VFP's erase does not put things in the recycle bin.     - Grid.ActiveRow problems Under VFP 9 I have a data grid linked to a table of line items for a sales order. Whenever I go to use the GRID.ActiveRow property it returns a number 1 greater than the number of order item records being displayed (filtered); no matter which row is highlighted or which row is active - e.g. 3 order item records ActiveRow returns 4 no matter which row is selected. ActiveColumn is returning the correct value. Any ideas as to what is causing this. What I am trying to do is automatically add a new record when the user is positioned on the last record and last column and presses Enter, instead of having them click a button to add the line. -- Regards Bob B.     - oleServerBusyRaiseError Does anyone know if you can trap these errors in anyway. I have a .exe which I create within a Custom class object. I would like to trap any busy errors either within the error routine on the custom object or handle it within the .exe. As this is all new to me and the help isn't particularly helpful I am struggling a bit. currently with this property turned on a get an occasional RPC server error which is not very helpful. and if its off I occasionally get my .exe going completely non responsive causing a hang in the main application. I am currently using VFP 8, but even a fix for 9 might help, as we may well be moving to that soon. just for the record the main reason it is going none responsive is because the executable is a phone server using Tapi lines via remote Tapi and a third party activex. We occasionally get problems where this setup goes completely none responsive, and I am unable to do anything tapi related, even with other tapi utilities. I am unsure if the issue is with the TSP on the server, the remote tapi implementation or the actual phone switch. as everything else seems to be working at the time. however rebooting the domain server cures the problem. however I don't expect a resolution to that issue here, as its not a FoxPro issue. just wanted to fully explain the problems. thank you in advance for any help you can give me Mark Burgum Tag: Chado Spell-Edit Tag: 227499

    - Private Data for a function Hello and thanks in advance for the help. If I design a form that uses a private data session, I open and close the tables within the form and everything in the default data session is left alone. Is there an easy way to do the same thing for a function?     - Coming from FPW 2.6 I have migrated an old FPW 2.6 application to VFP 9 just as it was, that means, without any change in code. So, the prg are full of @GET. I face now the problem that the command buttons do not appear in grey as it was in FPW 2.6, but they appear almost with white background, and since the main Fox screen also has white background, the buttons are hard to distinguish, since the contrast is too low between the two whites. I need to pass an object to another object. In the processing that the second object does, the first object's state will normally change. The object pointed to by the parameter will not. I realised that I am not sure how to do this. (The first object is a data collector. I can not instantiate the first object in the second object as the first object's lifetime may have to be more than one second object lifetime.)     - Declare cursor in init doesn't work? Hi, i use vfp9, with a mysql database. Mostly i use cursoradapters. In one form i want to build my cursor interactively with parameters provided from within the form. To declare the cursor on forehand i call the next line in the init of the form: SQLEXEC(m.lnConn, "select * from klanten where klant_id = 0", "curKlanten") apperently this is not correct as i keep getting an error that the cursor is not found.     - Access a vb.net DLL from VFP 8.0 I have a DLL written in vb.net that works great when it is called from another vb.net program. My problem is that I can't get it to work from VFP.     - Copy To and memo fields? Hi, I'm writing an application to run on a Palm PDA using Satellite Forms and VFP 9.0. I have a problem in that SF doesn't support memo fields but it does support large character fields. I'm pulling my data from a SQL 2000 Server backend with remote views and then using the COPY TO... with the FOX2X file type. The reason here is that SF supports dbase file formats for it's tables. My question is, is there a way to convert a memo field to a large character field? I believe that the largest a character field can be in VFP is 256 characters which isn't enough for the data I'm trying to move around. Does this limit exist for dbase files too? In SF I can create a character field of over 4000 characters. I wonder if I can include a CAST() function in my COPY TO command, I'm guessing not. Any suggestions?     - top level form menu I have a menu on a top level form. When I select the menu pads with the mouse all works as expected. However, I'm having difficulty getting that top level form menu to activate on an ALT+ key sequence. Example: The \<File menu pad appears normally and appears that an ALT+F would activate it, but it does not.     - Editbox lost focus issue I can't reproduce the following 100% of the time, but it seems to me that if I exit an editbox in one of my forms by clicking on a listbox (and/or perhaps elsewhere) on the same form, the underlying tables are not always updated properly. The update is accomplished via sql statements in the lostfocus() event of the control. There is no controlsource and the fields in question are character memo fields. The lb does drive the table that stores the data, but I can verify that this is not a case of the data being written to the wrong record.     - Monitor Network Activity Does anyone know of a way to monitor network activity to a specific IP Address programmatically? Hereâ??s the situation. We have an IP Phone system in the office (Itâ??s a Mitel system if that makes any difference). Our computers are all connected to our phone via network cables, which is then connected to our network. Each phone has its own IP (i.e. 10.10.2.x) Basically, Iâ??m looking for a simple way to check to see if someone is on their phone. We could become certified with Mitel to develop software for our phone system, but that requires training, time, money, etc... and it is probably overkill for what we currently need. So I figured if we could just pole the network activity to the phone, that would probably indicate to us that the phone is in use. Any ideas on how this can be accomplished? The sample program from the development kit that come with the smartcard reader was develop using VB. I'm having problem in getting the picture from the smartcard into my vfp form. In VB, the code is : Set Image1.Picture = MyKad1.Photo In my vfp form, I put Thisform.Image1.Picture=MyKad1.Photo but when the code is run, got error message, invalid data.     - VFP 9 SP 2: How is It Running? I installed VFP 9 SP 2 not too long ago. Since then, I have observed a number of crashes. SP1 was stable. I write this as I just had to delete foxuser.* AGAIN. This time, it was because I could not modify a table that I needed to change for debugging. I would simply start VFP, do my normal setups, open the table, locate the row, browse, change the value in question, save, and BAM! C0000005 everytime! Deleting foxuser.* got rid of the problem.     - Street Type Validation Anyone have a street type validation process? I need something that when given a string will return true if the string is a valid street type (including abbreviations).     - VFP 9 SP2: Command Window ?Bug Twice now, my command window has become messed up. Normally, there is space between the leftmost character in each line and the left frame of the window. This has disappeared. Commands still work fine, but the cursor is no longer visible when it is at the beginning of the line. Since I frequently repeat previous commands, this is bothersome. Deleting foxuser.* does get rid of the problem. It also gets rid of my useful settings. At least I have not had to lose a bunch of debugger settings. This has happened only since switching to VFP 9 SP 2. I have not changed the general way that I use VFP since switching to 9. Am I missing a setting? Is there a workaround?     - VFP 9: Maximum String Length According to the VFP 9 docs under "Visual FoxPro System Capacities", the maximum string length is 16777184. What is the true maximum, and where is it documented? Adding characters ten at a time, I created a string of 40 million characters. If I start with one character and double, I get an error 1903 (String is too long to fit.) after 16777216 (2^24). (This is odd since twice that is less than 40 million.) If I start with one character and double up to 16777216, then add 1 MB at a time, I get an error 43 (There is not enough memory to complete this operation.) after 383778816 (over 1/3 GB). Since it is possible to create some very long strings and yet get errors on shorter strings, what are the rules for l-o--n---g strings?     - Illegal regursion in triggers I know there's a way to do this, but I just don't remember. I have a table with a timestamp field which contains the datetime() of the last update and I want it to be updated whenever any change is made to a record and regardless of any table buffering.     - Update SQL problem I'm having some troubles with an update statement, using VFP 9, and it's driving me buggy, might someone see what I've incorrectly done? I have two tables: Master - has dozens of fields, approximately 10000 records Corrections - Has five fields (item, serial, firstrent, origcost, acquired), 500 or so records The last three fields in the Corrections table need to be changed in Master, based on the combination item+serial matching in Master, so I know there are about 500 records that will be updated. When I use the code below, I get 0 records updating. I suspect it has to do with my Where clause, and have tried many different derivations. Can someone help?     - Trimming combobox length display I have a an array populated from a table [tablename(cid c(8), cdesc(100))] and bind it into a combobox as the rowsource. The problem that I have is the length of the display when using the combo box is showing the whole 100 characters even I only have a maximum 30 characters from my table. Has anybody got any experience of mail-mailing in vfp using the Chado
Spell-Edit activex control?

The Merge event does not seem to be firing, and Chado, whilst being very
courteous and helpful, are not able to solve the problem because they have
no vfp expertise.
