    - cursortoxml() and chr(13) in memos Hullo, I have a table with a memo field that contains, amongst other things, occurances of chr(10) and chr(13) . If I convert this to an XML string using CursorToXML() and then convert it back to a table using XMLToCursor() then all occurances of chr(13) are stripped from the memo. I've used the various flag settings for the two functions but the chr(13)'s are always stripped. How can I keep the carriage returns? Thanks in advance. Yours faithfully Paul S.     - Suppressing PDF Writer screen output VFP 6 SP5 on WinXP Pro I do some PDF production in one of my VFP apps. I have no problems getting the app to use the PDF Writer printer without involving the user (using the registry setting trick). One of my routines customizes a Word file via OLE automation, then prints the result to a PDF. I'd like to suppress the little dialog that pops up while it is printing this Word doc. The one that says "Printing" at the top and shows a count of the pages being printed. I use the Windows LockWindowUpdate API call at other times to hide UI changes, but this does not work in this case. I assume this is because Word is the application originating the PDF Writer activity.     - INSERT during transaction - trigger failed This used to work, so I'm not sure what I did to screw it up (might have something to do with my SET EXCLUSIVE setting), but here's what's happening: I have two tables: USERS and USERPROMOS. The primary key of USERS, userid, is also a foreign key in USERPROMOS. The relational integrity procedures are set to stop inserts into UP without a corresponding userid in U. When I get a batch of records to import in, I get the record from my input file using a SCATTER NAME, INSERT the record into U, then go to UP and insert a record there, too, referencing Users->Userid as the userid for the new record in UP. Like so: SELECT _INCOMING BEGIN TRANSACTION ON ERROR DO "Err_CannotAddRec" DO WHILE !EOF() SCATTER NAME oRec WITH oRec * Add record to USERS INSERT INTO Users (...a bunch of fields...); VALUES (...a bunch of values...) * Add record to UserPromos INSERT INTO UserPromos (userid, initcontact) ; VALUES (Users->UserID, DATE()) ENDWITH oRec = NULL SKIP ENDDO END TRANSACTION The problem I'm having right now is that the second INSERT is failing in the INSERT trigger. It goes and opens up the USERS table in a new workarea and SEEKs the userid to verify it's there. For some reason, though, it's NOT there. If I go over and look at the USERS workarea, it IS there, but it doesn't come into the area where the RI procedure opened it up using USE USERS AGAIN. I'm thinking it's my transaction. If I go and do an END TRANSACTION when the program stops at the second insert, then retry that insert, it works because the new instance of USERS actually does find the new userid. Problem is, I'm not willing to dispense with the transaction in my code. I can't risk something screwing up during the import because a partial import would be real problematic. Could I solve this with some kind of buffering change, or anything like that? Another idea I had was to separate the two inserts into two separate loops, with a TRANS surrounding each of the loops.     - FORMS FREEZE UP When I run my applicatioon and preview a report, which works fine (and I shut it down), when I open another form in my application, the toolbar features all work except the 'FIND' button. When I press this button, my system freezes up.. I am running vfp 6.0 on a windows 98 OS with 128 meg of ram. I am relatively new to vfp, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.     - Migrating from FoxPro 2.6 to FoxPro 8.0 We have an old FoxPro 2.6 app which runs on Win 95/98/ME printing to a CITOH 5000 impact printer using a TTY driver. These machines are to be replaced with WinXP which seems to have dropped support for TTY. When we use the native Windows driver some rows are shifted to the right by a few characters. Is doing a migration to VFP 8 the best solution to this issue? I have access to the source and my first attempt ended with an error: Fatal Error in Converter: Error: Alias name is already in use. Error Number: 24 Method: openfile Offending Code: USE ... File being processed: basw110.scx I'm quite familiar with other IDE's (VB, PowerBuilder, .NET) and databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Access) but haven't used FoxPro before.     - Suppress Fatal Error dialog box in Visual Foxpro 8 In a compiled VFP8 program I have experienced a fatal error. I'm less concerned about the error than in the user prompt. I want the application to close without throwing up a prompt. I believe this behaviour started in VFP version 7 or 8. Is there an environment setting that can be set to modify this. There are a few constants in mess.h that define paths to tables. Unfortunately, if I change these pats to point to dummy tables and recompile, the program ignores the changes and still uses the real tables. If I instead, 'touch' the program file and recompile, it works. Despite that it appears to be recompiling all files, the compiler seems to be ignoring changes in mess.h. Any suggestions? Hi, I have some default_ini_files (.ini) that I include in myproject. but the user can override these default values with his own one so first on startup I want to copy those default_ini_file to there local drive if that file doesn't exist and then collect the values.     - Grid Question Is it possible to have a grid where some columns are bound to a field yet others are not. For example, I'm trying to create a program where the user is allow to open a file which will be display in a grid. In this grid I need the ability to allow the user to add what I call a Dynamic field. A field / column only exist while the program is running and is compose of an expression.     - FoxPro-based Application Hangs on AMD platform Installation of my FoxPro-based application on an AMD Thunderbird PC went normally. When I try to launch the application, however, it begins a tables checking sequence that is a routine part of the startup. During this step the program stops processing. When I attempt to close the app using Task Manager, the system locks up. I have upgraded system memory from 128MB to 256MB and also located and installed the latest driver for the integrated video adapter for this system. The problem persists after these changes. Are there hardware combinations that do not support FoxPro? I have seen posts and other support information suggesting that certain video devices cause FoxPro to fail, but the devices I am running are not listed. I would appreciate help with this.     - Testing views from the command window I am using vfp 8. I have defined a parametric sql view. When I click Browse in the Project Manager, it asks me for the values of the parameters and displays the records as it should. To test the view I would like to browse it again, but with other values for the parameters. However, the second time around I am not asked for the value of the parameters.     - Remove "MEMO" in Grid Dear All, I am using a Grid, one of the field contains char(400) (I need very long space). When I open the Grid, it shows "MEMO" on that field and can't input anything. I found something from web and said must using "Editbox" instead of "Textbox". So I use "Editbox" and can input now. My problem is that when I open the Grid, it shows "MEMO" on that cell.     - Help I've just added a test Winxp system to our network. We run Win 2000 server & Clients. An application is run from the server built from Visual Foxpro ver6. I am aware of the program location, I can access the program folder, however I am unable to launch program. The following errors occur; Cannot locate MS Visual Foxpro support library. I copied the program from the server to the Xp client but no solution. I downloaded & updated ODBC drivers for VFP on the XPclient. I also attempted to Add data source.     - VFP EXE PROTECTION As everyone knows, Re-fox can see and decompile any aplication made in VFP, thus unprotecting months of work. This is kinda frustrating. Is there any possibility to include the VFP application in a C++ executable so that noone could decompile it anymore? If it's not possible to hide a vfp exe in a C++ exe, is there any way to protect your code from Refox and other decompilers, without being forced to buy Re-fox or other "vfp code-protection software"? What I was also looking for but didn't please me at all was a VFP to C++ translator, as the one to C# is not covering all VFP functions. Thanks in advance for your help.     - Strange Index error in VFP8 SP1 Hello, A custommer after upgrading the application to VFP8 SP1 started to become a strange error message: Index file "xxxx" is corrupted. Recreate index file. Error number is 2066 I found that the error occurs in a simple SQL SELECT statement. The error occurs in one WS running under WinXP (custommer states that there is the newer NTDLL.DLL installed: v.5.1.2600.1217). Other WS running under WinNT or WinXP, but with older NTDLL.DLL, don't have this error. The strange point in this is that in VFP Help such error doesn't exist. Also this WS experiences rather friequent errors in USER32.DLL when working with that VFP8 Application. In VFP7 - there were no such cases. can anybody suggest something? Vitas V.     - Toolbar showing up?? I have a small exe that has process that runs in the backgroud. The exe basically runs all day...not a big deal. But when I load the exe if I don't have VFP open the toolbar shows in the exe...but if I have VFP open the toolbar doesn't show up in the exe. I don't want the toolbar to show up in the exe but i shouldn't have to have VFP open when it loads? Can anyone shed some light? I'm using VFP6.0sp5.     - VFP 7 versus 6 performance I have an app originally coded in VFP 6. When this app was recompiled into VFP 7 a huge performance hit was encountered. Actually the entire app runs fine in 7 except for the printing routines. The code shells out to dos to print text files that are generated by various routines. The code goes: !copy sometext.txt lpt1, or in some instances uses Netware command NPRINT.     - Switch back from Remote I have created 2 FoxPro programms. First is running on the local station with XP and second is running on a Windows2003 Server with Remote Desktop. Now I like to switch between the 2 programms. To switch from the local to the terminal desktop I do with getwindow API Functions. But how I can switch from the Remote to the local?     - Problem importing delimited text file with empty dates I am trying to import a comma delimited text file into a VFP 7 table My table structure is as follows: IDNO - C(10) LNAME - C(35) FNAme - C(35) DOB - DATE APPLICDATE - DATE UNIVERSITY - C(10) CATEGORY - C(10) GENDER - C(2) SALUTATION - C(5) My date is set to British My text file looks like this : "0029","GRGURIC","MATIYA",09/03/1941,"","","P","M","" "0035","SMITH","JOAN",09/03/1963,09/02/1987,"","P","F"."" "0056","JONES","MARTIN",09/03/1953,"","","C","M","" "0087","RICHARDS","MABEL",09/03/1967,,"","I","F","" When I use the command: "Append from test.txt delimited" all the data gets pushed to the right from the APPLICDATE field. That is I get IDNO,LNAME,FNAME,DOB fields filled correctly. I get nothing in APPLICDATE field ever even where it has data and from there on in all records the University field is filled with applicdate data, Gender is filled with Category data, etc. What am I doing wrong? I tried not having anything in the applicdate field when it is empty like this: "0029","GRGURIC","MATIYA",09/03/1941,,"","P","M","" but this did not change anything.     - Drag-and-Drop Operation I have encountered a problem with drag-and-drop operation. The source object is a listbox and is "boundto" column 1, the "rowsourcetype" is array. The source.MouseDown() is this.drag(1), to start the drag-and-drop operation. The target object is a grid control, which will import data according to the "source.value". The problem is the source.value is not accurately reflect the record "selected" (by mouse click). It is because the value of the listbox(source) is determined after the click() method and the click() method is finished upon "MouseUp" Event. Therefore, when I click on the listbox and the drag action is already launched, the value of the listbox is remain bound to the previously selected record. I have worked around this problem by moving the drag(1) command to click(). DODEFAULT() THIS.DRAG(1) The value of the listbox is correctly bounded, but the behaviour is changed. It is no need to hold the left button as required the "normal drag" action. Such click(mousedown and mouseup) at the desired item in listbox and move to the target and click (mousedown and mouseup) again. The drag-and-drop operation is completed.
