    - Using Native VFP Tables and Network Performance Hello and thanks in advance for the help. We are using VFP 7.0 SP1 and native VFP tables. All users are running Win XP Pro SP2 and our file server is running Win 2003 Server. We are running a network with about 30 users. Each user has 3 or 4 VFP apps open with each app opening up to 40 tables. Most tables have memo fields so each table opens 3 files. There are some forms with private data sessions that open their own copies of from 25-30 tables (with memo fields). Some of these forms are opened and closed repeatedly throughout the day. Are there any performance issues with using VFP tables and Win 2003 server as I have outlined above? We are attempting to figure out why we are having network performance issues and it has been suggested that the large number of open files caused by the configuration that I have outlined could be impacting network performance severely. Does anyone know if this could be the case or if there are special configuration issues for Win 2003 Server that should be applied when using a large number of native VFP tables. Thank you very much.     - Problem with Crystal Report XI and foxpro 9.0 sp2 I am trying to create report in crystal report XI with fox2x tables. Fox2x tables I created from FoxPro 9.0 by issuing command copy to C:\ReportFolder\ReportTable type fox2x. Now when I try to add this table to crystal report from database expert it says: "Falied to load database information". I tried different tables also but getting same error.     - XValues in excel chart I am exporting my data to excel through office automation. First three lines are Report title and subtitle and some other information. Line 4 is coloumn heading and from line 5 onwards actual data. Based on this data I am creating column chart. I want to show my column heading as x-axis labels but it shows 1,2,3,4,.... I dont find how to setup XValue property of chart as range.     - VFP9 grid date shows century even when century off I have a grid where I need to set AllowCellSelection to .T. because one of the columns has a checkbox that users can check/uncheck. Since setting AllowCellSelection to .T., even though the other columns are set to ReadOnly (and I've tried setting When ro return .F. also), if you click inside the date column the century appears.     - how closing open dbf file? Hi! I have a freetable that is open by more than one users to look at result of thier performance. I wanted this table to be updated every hour in our server but however, if somebody is keeping this freetable file open my sql query that will save and update the result into freetable cannnot overwrite the .dbf file while it is open. cannot overwrite freetable file(.dbf) I need to close this freetable before starting my sql-query to be able to update the freetable every hour...     - SP1 did not solve my problems! Well, looks like Vista SP1 did not solve any of my problems with VFP apps. SET PRINTER TO name is very very slow on Vista computers over the network. For some reason, opening a form and SELECT is VERY slow using Vista workstations. I was really hoping that SP1 would solve some of these issues, but evidently MS didn't listen.     - Window on top Hello all and thanks in advance for the help. I have an application that creates windows (forms) in response to external events or messages. When a new form is created, I need it to appear on top of any application currently running (both FoxPro and non-FoxPro). Is there any way to make this happen? The events that cause a window to be created are not initiated by user interface events so the user is likely to have the application minimized when an event occurs that would cause a window to be instantiated.     - WMI Hi All, I have been trying to use WMI to create a folder and share it during my post executable procedure in my installer. Basically the idea is that if a database does not exist and the user has designated this machine a the "file server", create a folder to hold the database, share the folder and create a new database in this folder. The problem is that most of the WMI code appears to be in C, VB and Perl. All of the scripts I have based my code on have language specific commands that don't readily translate to VFP. Here is my code as it now exists (tailored for test purposes). The code is still pretty rough. Running it through the debugger, some intellisense is available but this confuses more than it helps.     - Different Column counts for each detail band in report. I'm trying to use multiple detail bands to get a subreport effect. It seems I am only able to control the column count for the entire report. I need to have one detail band of the report print in two columns, the middle detail band in three columns, and the third detail band only one column. All of these have to be on one report with no page breaks in between each detail band. Is there another way to do subreports in VFP9 or are multiple detail bands the only way?     - Slow Window Creation Hello and thanks for the help. I have a VFP 9 SP 2 app that creates many instances of my own subclass of the form control. I've noticed that when I start the app and it is creating the necessary windows, there is a noticeable delay between each window that is created. It seems to create about 1-2 windows per second which to me seems kind of slow. Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is a way to speed it up? Each window has a TE Edit activex control. Although the email is given the correct date, when it is received at the other end, it is received with a date 15 hours sooner. ie - sent at 6pm, received as 4am We are at GMT+10 I checked the code and it is setting DATETIME() correctly to the date when sending.     - Easy or hard?: Interface VFP desktop application with an internet application I deal regularly with a custom internet application that my nonprofit organization subscribes to. It requires me to input data manually and regularly and much of this is repetitive and has its quirks and difficulties. For instance, every time I enter a record I'm forced to enter the current time in two fields. The first field is the hour (e.g. 3 for a time between 3:00 and 3:59) and the second field is minutes (e.g. 59). The hour persists, but doesn't always update on time, forcing me to manually change the hour field. If I use my own VFP application to enter the data, I can have the time saved to my own VFP data automatically off the computer's clock, saving me the trouble of entering it manually, looking at the clock, etc. I can also supply data to my records driven by my own tables instead of having to enter it manually into fields like I have to do when using the web application. The problem from my perspective is getting the data from my own VFP tables into the browser form of the internet application. That application is written in PHP on a MySQL database. It has private access requiring a username and password. I don't want or expect to be able to automate the process completely, that's not the issue. I'd just like to make it reasonably convenient to enter the data into the internet application from my VFP data. I was thinking that I might be able to use a macro utility of some sort to grab the data from FoxPro and jam it into the internet form. I could inspect the form before saving data. I would certainly inspect the data online for errors, which is easy to do, as well as correct errors at any time. The internet application has an autocomplete function, but it can be rather dodgy and it's subject to problems with bad data entered by other people, something I have no control over. I'd rather use my own autocomplete functionality, driven by my own data. I'd use that on my client side VFP application when I enter the data, prior to "transferring" my data to the web application. Ultimately, the data would be stored on a server somewhere in MySQL, although I have data locally for my own purposes. How doable is this and what might I use to do it? TIA for guidance.     - Best approach? I've written a function that parses a search string and returns a 1D array for each word in the string. Such as, "PAINT SPRAY RED" would return an array of cArray[1,1]="PAINT" cArray[2,1]="SPRAY" etc. Now I want to issue a SELECT statement to search my inventory file Select * from inventory WHERE cArray[1,1]$descript AND .... (or several other fields may be searched) and so on... The problem is that I can't hard code the select statement because the function will create the number of elements for the array based on how many search terms are entered.     - Can't close a dbc I'm trying to start an app with a clear slate, but I can't close its chief dbc reliably. The app creates a private session object and opens the dbc in the private session. I may not close it properly in the app during testing for whatever reason, but the main prg does a close all & clear all to make sure that no project managers are open, then loops through aSessions and nests aDatabaseses to visit every possible dbc & does a close databases all for each.     - Report field stretching problems I have a report in which a field was changed from a small character field to a memo field. Microsoft "Webcasts" have "Levels" 100,200,300,400 where "100"
is introduction and "400" is most advanced -
